The classic bulldog look is a Male. The Females as a general rule, do not have as big a head or chest, therefore you need to consider this in your decision. Although I naturally love them both, I do feel Females have a tendency to be bossy and the males more laidback. The obvious problem with male dogs is the tendency to "hump" and that can be cured by nipping the desire in the bud immediately, using one page of a newspaper folded up so that it makes a lot of noise or by blowing a whistle rather violently. If you laugh at them you will only make the problem worse. Also the Bulldog 'male appendage' has a tendency to be larger than normal and 'shows' whenever they are happy, excited about a new toy or whatever. If this would prove to be an embarrassment to you then you need to get a female. Information presented here is strictly my opinion based upon research and/or 50 years experience at rescuing animals of all sorts.
