This is the story of
Peanut and JEB growing up.

Peanut and JEB were playing in the yard this afternoon. The game the two bulldogs were playing is practice to see which one is 'top dog'. It is very important to know who is the top dog. The top dog is the leader. Everybody else minds what the top dog says! When you watch your dog playing with another dog and he tries to bite the back of the other dog's neck, he is practicing to be 'top dog'.

JEB said, "Peanut, you are getting big! And you are really fast!"

Peanut said, "JEB, you are fast, too! And you are still the Top Dog!"

JEB and Peanut jumped around some more. Then they settled down to talk. JEB said, "Nooo, I'm not the Top Dog. Papa is."

Peanut wondered, "Why doesn't Papa play with us anymore?"

"He is so busy with the new puppies" JEB answered. "When you are top dog, you have so many responsibilities."

Peanut asked, "Does he still love us?"

And JEB said, "Papa will always love us. Even when we mess up. In the morning, he takes us for walks and when he puts us to bed at night, he always gives us kisses."

And Peanut responded, "Someday, when we are Top Dog, we should be just like Papa!"
