Puppy Gal Welcomes You To

Judy's October 2008 Journal....

I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.

Yall, one of my "strays that came to stay" must be stealing newspapers from the neighbors or another stray is bringing them in as a peace offering, so they will let it stay here. So far I've found two for the same day, still wrapped in their plastic covers. It wasn't much of a newspaper so hopefully it was free and the neighbors won't be mad, or even miss them. lol

I finally found a used washing machine and dryer, Whirlpool, for the critters. Their dryer bit the dust a year ago and their washer is on it's last leg. It's running now only because it's "Bob Rigged". Yes I like Whirlpool products it's just these touch control units that drive me crazy. I couldn't determine the year it was manufactured but if it's been used at all, it wasn't very much. Maybe a "little old lady" without a bunch of critters was the prior owner. (lol lol) I made a deposit and they are going to hold them for Bob to pick up in the morning. I've got to run hang dog beds on the line since the "new" dryer is being really weird today. - Judy

The word for today is "BUMFUZZLED". www.thefreedictionary.com/bumfuzzled

Bob is a Yankee therefore wasn't raised hearing some of the phrases I was, so this morning when I told him I just hit a "ruff patch" and was plain "bumfuzzled". He gave me a strange look then turned to the Internet for additional understanding. lol lol Life is interesting!!! - Judy

Great Gobs of Goose Grease!!! Wednesday the dryer repairman called asked questions about the dryer and said he was sure it needed a "customer interface panel" so he would order it and as soon as it arrived he would be out to switch them out. Now why in the world didn't they do this when I called for repair service. Next I get a call this morning advising the part is on back order and is due to be shipped around December 1. Hold everything .... not in this house too much to do and too little manpower. The house is so crowded with plants and critters there is nowhere to turn around, Ruckus is still a tiny baby and we're up and down with him all night, plus he is getting more demanding all the time. Peanut has a sinus infection, Sammie has a UTI and Guitarman escaped from the kitchen while I was outside hanging up dog beds, unlatched the kiddy gates, went into the living room, managed to get the top off one of one of those BIG Danish butter cookie tins and ate them all, Gracious no telling how sick he's going to be.

The repair company told me I would have to talk to Whirlpool ... remember this dryer is only a couple of months old. I called them and went through the automated BS but when it asked for the model number and serial number, I yelled AGENT in the phone real loud!! Then the agent had the nerve to tell me it was a company rule that I give them the information anytime I spoke with the company. I found this a bit stupid and said so, rather rude I was. (Buzzer going off on the microwave which is warning Ruckus's food, buzzer going off on the oven to let me know time is up on the baked potatoes ... so I cut off the washing machine I couldn't handle another buzzer while talking to the agent. lol ) When the agent verified the "back order" I told him just to send someone to pick up the dryer. I so wish I had been smart enough to say, "well when Lowe's comes to pick it up they can call you with that information", but I wasn't. At any rate, near to splattering myself all over the walls of the kitchen, the agent called the manufacturing plant and put in a request for them to ship the part immediately, to me directly. I dislike UPS so I requested they ship it by Fed-Ex. Watch the dang thing get lost in route, the Fed-Ex driver had been leaving packages for my neighbors at our house lately. lol lol

After all the work and other assorted problems, I did a sleep-in. I was exhausted, still am, so I'm off to bed now. I've got lots I want to share ... pictures, hats, a purse for a little girl being on the top of the list, but they will have to wait until I can take time away from everything else. Judy

Judy Cookey, The Puppygal 10/27/08 Ghost and Goblins, I do declare!!!! The dryer worked perfect for one day, then it decided to "act up". The repair person is due to come out today so I'm hopeful that the dryer will be in a snit and they can resolve the problem. They can't fix something that they can't identify, unfortunately "goblin in the works" is not an identifier. This repair person is already going to be shaking their head with all the plants and critters in the house. We'll have to clear a path for them. We're predicted to have nice Fall weather the next 10 days or so, therefore some the of the plants can go back onto the porches but not until around Noon. I feel like an old woman who lived in a greenhouse and had so many plants she didn't know what to do. lol lol

This is a picture of the garb I was wearing yesterday to strip the leaves off the Angel's Trumpets and cut limbs to root for next year. My ears were so cold I wore Bob's "country cap" it sure was warm. Below are pictures of Ruckus, he was so cute I had to grab the camera. - Judy

PS Week before last the van tire was low so we took it in to be fixed or replaced, they fixed it, but on the way home Bob noticed some shaking in the steering wheel and questioned if the tire had been balanced properly. Then the end of last week, Bob's truck had a flat, big hole, so we loaded it in the van and set off to get both tire problems fixed. Poor Ruckus is being hauled all around and doesn't seem to mind in the least bit as long as he gets his bottle and a warm snuggle disk.

The Dickens!!! This house is so full of plants that the English Bulldogs are making plans ... either get the males to hike their legs on them, or run away from home since "home has gone to the plants" instead of "to the dogs".

Lol All these plants have made me crazy. Looking at them every day certainty minimized their size but when I tried to get them in the door to the house the full impact hit me. There is NO WAY all of them can winter over in the house and I'm not sure I can even stuff them all into the house long enough to give me time to sort them out, give them away etc. BUT I've got a inherited mental flaw, I can't toss them out to the winter freeze.

Well you'll know what I'll be doing today ... making an appointing with a competent professional, but last time I inquired if you had over 15 plants they wouldn't even make you an appointment. That's my attempt at humor for awhile. I've been acting silly and laughing for hours. - Judy

Monday - October 27, 2008 8:30 AM
Dagnabbit, it's still forecasted to drop below freezing tonight for a couple of hours and Tuesday night is suppose to be below freezing for 8 or so hours. We might have gotten enough protection on them to for tonight's 2 hours but There is no way to protect them from Tuesday's freeze but to bring them inside. We'll start with a heavy pruning of the Angel's Trumpets and bring in the remaining plant to winter over. Lordy, we've got so much work to do that we'll never finish. I am so "stoved" up from all the physical activity I've done lately that I could barely walk last night, I've used muscles I forgot I had. I feel like I use to when I was a kid and went for the occasional horseback ride, couldn't walk right for 4-5 days afterward. (lol) I wish I had something to stop the pain for at least today so I could get all this work done, then when the plants and critters are all settled I could deal with my body. On the other hand, I'm a happy camper and up until late last night the English Bulldogs and I had been "dancing to the music"!! Jeb wants everyone to know "he can dance", poor Baby does try to dance.

Be well, be happy and pass it along to others. - Judy

Saturday - October 25, 2008 Noon
When we woke up this morning at 5:30 AM it was 39F degrees. Boy Doggie, the "strays that came to stay" were takin' exception to my mothering skills. We worked so hard yesterday that I forgot to check the predicted low temperatures therefore did not put down the old comforters on their crates, all they had were sheets over the crates and the front weren't even covered. They had managed to pull an old blanket off a stool and made a bed out of it. Fluffy refused to join the boys, saying she didn't sleep with the "help" ... she barks orders out to them when she sees a deer or rabbit run through the property. She's such an uppity little thing. lol lol

It's suppose to be in the 20's Monday night which means all the plants must be brought into the house or they will freeze, but first I have to dust and clean because they will be in the way of doing a good job once they are brought inside. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck

Update on the dryer ... it does have goblins hiding in it. I got it to run on "timed" but then it quit even doing that. Then I walked by it and it was lit up, I tossed in some clothes but it refused to run. Later the "wrinkle guard" buzzer started going off while I was upstairs. I came down held the "run" button and it dried the clothes. I stopped it several times before it finished the timed cycle and it allowed me to up the number of minutes and dried the clothes. Then it got into another snit. Afraid it would come on by itself and start a fire while we were asleep, I left the door open. What should greet me this morning, the wrinkle guard buzzer with time on it's hands. It reminds me of a volvo I had once upon a time. The company receptionist called to tell me the windshield wipers were on, it wasn't raining and had not been. Another time a neighbor told me it scared the devil out of him, he was out walking his dog in his back yard when all of a sudden she started playing the radio. After that whenever someone let me know she was acting up I would just say, "she wants attention". The mechanic could never find the problem.

I'm off to clean house so we can bring in the plants Monday or sooner if the temperature is going to go too low. Have a good weekend and let me know if you want to borrow this dryer for your Halloween Party. - Judy

Friday - October 24, 2008 6:30 AM
Mercy!!! We've been awake for over an hour but it's been raining so the English Bulldogs did not want to go out to potty. It's finally stopped so we're about to take them out but first thing I'm going to do is put the coffee on to perk.

Whirlpool has scheduled a service call on the "new" dryer for Wednesday ... dang that's a long wait in our situation, you know it would also be raining which would prevent hanging dog beds outside to dry. We have one of those collapsable wooden clothes dryers so I suppose I'll have to used it. Yesterday I finally got the Whirlpool to run on "timed drying" so I'm holding my breath that I can achieve the same at least until this rainy spell is over. I swear the goblins needed a place to hang out until Halloween so they picked that dryer!!! Getting "timed drying" isn't straight forward so I really have to "dink" around with it to get there. All I need now is for the silly thing to start coming on by itself. I wonder if it wants a sack of candy?? lol lol

I called the electric company and they had my call of 10/10 on file but they are behind in answering security light calls. I laughed and told the lady it wasn't walking around in the dark that was uncomfortable it was the thought of having a heart attack because Blackie ran across my feet.

The junk store has the used washing machine on their truck still but told Bob they would have to take it to their house to check it out before they could give him a price. This is getting to weird for me to continue dealing with ... it might be because they didn't know Bob but they do me. lol lol

Alvin saw a herd of deer including several babies crossing our drive and going into the woods as he came in to work yesterday. Lordy that is all I need a herd of unknown deer eating their salad from my flower beds. I have those "strays that came to stay" such snuggy comfortable den areas that they have gone lazy on me. They just bark from the porch most of the time.

I sincerely hope you will enjoy your weekend. - Judy

Thursday - October 23, 2008 6:30 AM
What a way to start a morning!!! The yard security light bulb has blown, I'll have to call the electric company again to come to replace it, they probably just forgot. Meanwhile it's too dark to walk the critters until the sun comes up enough so that we can see that Blackie isn't around. I would hate to end up dead because that fool snake scared me to death. Golden Rod or some other pollen producing weed has caused us to have stuffy, achy sinus issues, so it has been off and on sleep since 3:30 AM. I asked Bob when Alvin was to arrive but he didn't know, said he guessed some time between 6:30 and 7:30 ... I should have attended to the details. lol lol I decide to rush getting the critters in and out of the house. Alvin might not see one outside and run over it. First of all I tossed the washed dog beds into the dryer ... oops it won't come on, it isn't getting electricity, hopefully it's just a thrown breaker. "Bob Rigged" the dog's washing machine and got it to run, but judging from what he told me I'm at a loss to understand what parts to order to "fix it". I made the remark, "Oh Well, it will come out in the wash" which Bob thought was so cute considering the circumstances ...but I had to admit that my brain was not that engaged, it was just a coincidence.

The light is beginning to peek through the leaves of the trees so it's time to rush. "Once there was a stubborn old ram thought he'd butt a hole in the dam, everyone said you can't, but he kept butting along. Cause he had high hopes, high in the sky hopes". That's me although I probably didn't get the words right and I don't have time to look them up right now) - Judy

Wednesday - October 22, 2008 6:30 PM
We missed Cherry Cookie being in heat, if the vet had implanted the sperm yesterday as I wanted instead of insisting on a blood test, then there would have been a chance of puppies, but today was too late.

The used washing machine that the "junk store" was suppose to get in today had not been unloaded when we went by there around noon, they told us to check back late this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Frustration .... I ate 2 apple fritters. I've never liked sweets but I'm so restricted on other things that I can eat that it is causing me to develop a "sweet tooth" ... got to stop that right away!!!

We're both about to drop and must get some sleep tonight, we have a young man, Alvin, coming early tomorrow morning to help get some winterizing done. He'll do anything but you can tell he really doesn't like to mess with my plants, probably because Bob told him I'm picky about them. If you are waiting on Angel's Trumpet cuttings from me, I haven't gotten around to taken them yet because they are loaded with buds and I want to see them loaded with blooms.

Ruckus is doing great, he's a spoiled rotten sweetie. Late afternoon feeding didn't go too well for us, finally I had to call Bob in from outside to see if he could get him FULL. lol lol After the sun went down, I let Jeb out to potty and forgot all about him, does that tell you how tired I am. About 30 minutes later, Bob was outside with Rosie & Sammie on potty break and they found Jeb, running the big wadding pool around the side of the yard. It was on it's side, had about a gallon of water in it and he was trying to catch the water. I asked Bob why he didn't come get the camera for a video to which he replied he didn't even think about it because he and the girls were having too much fun watching Jeb.

I've washed and hung out to dry several loads of dog beds. I cooked Bratwurst, plus pan fried yellow squash and steamed cabbage to eat with it. The cabbage started all the critters to talkin' even the Sun Conure and Cockateils, which I moved into a corner of the kitchen so I would be sure to give them the fresh veggie like I do the English Bulldogs. The cats have been really weird in what they eat lately. I think the salmon spoiled then now they don't want dried food. I had a woodpecker and a crow giving me "what for" because I hadn't brought out compost items or leftover dog food. I think they are ALL taking advantage of me.

I'm off to bed now - Judy

Tuesday - October 21, 2008 9:15 PM
Which should I tell you about first taking Guitarman and Cherry Cookie to the vet's to be bred, our shopping for a used washing machine or the colt that came to visit, he didn't get come onto the back porch porch, Thank Goodness!!! I think today has been much too busy for my poor mind feels unbalanced. If you've ever seen a spinning top, notice it slow down and then start to wobble because it was about to stop ... then you know how my brain feels about now. lol lol

We put in a good 12 hours of work each day for about the last week, plus we've been up and down several times a night with Ruckus and took him along with us when we had to go anywhere, poor baby has some miles on him for sure. The vet sent off a blood test on Cherry Cookie which is suppose to predict the correct day to implant Guitarman's sperm. His lazy sperm then can just sit and wait for the eggs to come to them. This is more than I ever wanted to know about raising English Bulldogs. lol lol

As we were headed out to check on the availability and cost of new washing machines, we stopped at the neighbor's house, same ones who's pig was on our back porch, and told them we got the colt back home but he did a double back on us just as soon as we pulled up into their drive and I'm sure was back down in our driveway by now. I wonder if the deer told him how good Lilies taste. (lol lol)

This is Gracie signing off for the night. - Judy

Video of Ruckus eating his first mushy meal is in the process of uploading as I type. It's a very good illustration of how I get them to eat if you care to watch. - Judy

Monday - October 20, 2008 10:00 AM
It was already dark last night when we noticed there had been a change in the "low temperature" prediction. The prediction was for 34 F which is OK but at 32 F is death for 99.9% of the plants I have outside. I checked 2 other weather web sites and decided to take a chance. We were just too tired to deal with plants, but the English Bulldogs in the outside covered runs had to be brought in because it would be too cold for them. Poor Bob had to walk them inside in the dark!!! I suppose his King snake was buried somewhere nice and warm, but the covered runs are warm especially under the freezer ... don't come out Blackie!!!

Fortunately it only got down to 40F. I've waited 3 years for blooms in a double pink Angel's Trumpet named "Day Dreams" and the first one is finally opening so I was really disappointed that it might go down to 32F and freeze the dang thing. lol lol It's also loaded with tiny buds and if they have the opportunity to open it will be breath taking. Here are pictures of the most mature bud. It is green now, will turn white and then pink. Notice the second layer of the bloom dropping out of the first "skirt".

These English Bulldogs and other critters are a hoot ... they are pretending to be asleep because it's 40 F degrees outside and they don't want to go outside to potty, or do anything else. Any other time they would have been telling us we had overslept!!! Not even Ms Melanie, rescued German Shepherd, or the birds are making any noise. Ruckus was last feed at 4:30 AM and hasn't woke up yet for another bottle. He had his first mushy food yesterday and really liked it. Bob took a video of me feeding him but we were too tired last night to upload it to YouTube. Hopefully Bob will be able to do that today.

May your week start out good and stay that way. - Judy

Saturday - October 18, 2008 8:00 PM
We have been on the run this week!! Besides taking care of Ruckus every 3 hours and breeding female English Bulldogs which takes a big chunk of time out of our day, we've gone here and there looking for supplies for the critters. I bought a total of 42 used sweatshirts and t-shirts, just in case we have puppies. We are looking at a surgical implant of sperm from Guitarman into Cherry Cookie. The mobility of his sperm is not good and this is the only possible way to impregnate her ... oh what puppies they will be. Guitarman is so smart, he will watch us open a door, crate or dog run and then he'll do it. One time when he was a teenager, I heard a gosh awful commotion downstairs. My Sassy T was having a fit, so I jumped out of bed and ran down ... he was so proud of himself, he opened his "night crate" and then opened the night crates for Jeb, Count and Peanut. Couple his genes with lovable stick to me like glue Cherry and the pups should have wonderful dispositions and be beautiful.

I found blog software I wanted on the web site and he installed it for me. Just as soon as I have the time I will check it out, let you know where to find it and then you can tell me what you think. Enjoy life, it's the only one you have. - Judy

Bob Thursday - October 16, 2008 8:30 AM
I had to go out in the rain to get Jeb, the stinker, he was just sitting in one of my flower beds under a big oak tree and couldn't feel the rain. I got to him, I told him he better get his behind in the house ... he wanted a kiss first. I got wet because he wanted a kiss!! He was probably in hiding waiting for one of the females "in heat" to walk by but when I appeared he "faked" it by acting like he wanted a kiss. lol lol

Many people have asked me how tall my Angel's Trumpets are. In this picture you will see how much taller they are than Bob and he said the image didn't do justice to them so we're guessing 10-12 Feet. The tallest is a 3 year old plant which I grew from seed and is wintered-over inside. It's the one with the dark pink beautiful flowers, picture posted below.

Angel's

Thursday - October 16, 2008 6:30 AM
Good Morning!!!

Yesterday morning, we took Amber to the vet's to be bred to Jazzman. We don't expect it will result in puppies but it would sure be nice if it did. "Prior Litter"

This breeding was strictly a roll of the dice and the odds are not in our favor but she so wants to be a mama. Speaking of which I told Bob I was going to steal a puppy for Reba to raise, she has her heart and soul set on being a mama, one more time.

When I went out to water the Angel's Trumpets yesterday afternoon, there was a golden colored half grown dog about halfway up the drive, when it saw me it let out a squeal, like it had been shot, and took off running in the opposite direction. Gosh what in the world has a human being done to that scared "baby". I tried to find it and even took Melanie with me in hopes she would locate it, but I didn't have any luck. Boomer was kinda like that when he first came here to live. If anyone or anything looked at him hard he would start squealing, now he just squeals when we first come home from being out and about ... he's happy to see us and wants to let us know that he wants any leftovers we might be bringing home for the critters.

I'm off to take English Bulldogs out to potty before it starts to rain. - Judy

Wednesday - October 15, 2008 8:00 AM
Up at 5 AM, we've finished phase one of the morning chores and are about to start on phase two. Shortly after Noon I hope to beginning on my "extras".

It never ceases to amaze me that the English Bulldogs have such different personalities, just like humans. The Cookie clan sticks to me like glue and have a tendency to be a "chickie" when they are young. Juliet's girls are "chickies" but don't need the comfort of Mama Judy near. I don't know which is worse, having a 4 months old pup run into my leg when I stop suddenly or having to look for one who has ventured away, not too far but out of range. lol lol

I will be so glad when this Presidential election is over and Biden stops with the "tearing up" act. I suppose it's worked for him for so long that he can't give it up. If Obama wins I surely hope nothing happens to him, Cry Baby Biden as President would be more than I could handle. To be fair, Romney played this card also.

Dang the Ditch Puppies are sounding off loud and clear so there must be someone coming down the drive. - Judy

PS Last night I came eyeball to eyeball with a deer. I was hanging up dog beds looked over and not 15 feet away was a full grown but young deer, sorry I didn't notice gender. If it was going to come up on the porch I wanted to make a quick get away so I was more concerned if one of the Bullies was out on the porch with me. I said "Hello" to which I swear it replied the same and after a few minutes ambled off. If Melanie had been out with me, she might still be chasing it.

Tuesday - October 14, 2008 11:30 AM
Gracious I lost yesterday's entry when the electricity went off and I can't remember what it was about. My friend who has a "junk shop" has just bought enough "stuff" to fill her shop twice so she, her family and extended family are busy trying to get all the goodies in the door and back out again as "sold". lol lol You know she told me she had three trailer loads due to come in today and they unloaded some last night. We've just gotten back from her shop where we bought lots of toys, sheets and comforters for the critters. I also bought a fuzzy coat for Boomer's bed (which he'll love), two strings of "pearls" and several hats hopeful that at least one of the females will play dress up. Peanut promised to wear a hat and Jeb said he was going to run away from home if I didn't stop pestering him about wearing those stupid hats. Bob is sure I've lost my mind and I'm beginning to think he's right .... but I am having fun.

Now I'm off to wash all this "stuff" in bleach to kill the germs. See that proves I'm over the edge, I'm going to wash Boomer's coat in bleach to kill the germs, but just yesterday I caught the "stays that came to stay" rolling around in donkey poop over in the neighbor's pasture. Critters are like people that do weird things.

I do so hope you are enjoying your week. I have some paperwork to do, and some Angel Trumpets cuttings to deliver to local friends and mail to other friends. I love my plants therefore giving cuttings to other people is like giving away a little part of me. - Judy

Sunday - October 12, 2008 11:30 AM
We took Sugar Cookie to the vet's yesterday morning to be bred with Jazzman. They have wonderful puppies, both in looks and personality, an example of which is this little girl Cherry Cookie (DOB 1/1/07). She is an absolute chickie girl who sticks to me like glue but we like it like that. lol lol

Please click above "video icon" to see the latest video of Boogaloo Ruckus, the tiny English Bulldog puppy who quit eating. We now think perhaps it was due to an infection of a cut received during the c-section procedure. Bob is working hard to give him the opportunity to live and right now all is going well.

I wrote about Grits and now I find there are many ways to eat them that I had not even considered. One that sounds kinda gross, but after reading the recipe sounds good, is Creamy Grits with Shrimp. I don't care for cheese but for those who do, Cheese Grits are rumored to be great.

For Brunch I cooked fried chicken nuggets and potatoes. I had to cook lots because the English Bulldog beggers have to have at least a couple of bites ... remember no salt on the Bully's portion. lol lol

I told Big Bob that we needed to get a GPS 'cause when a Mississippi highway changes names 4 times I'm without a clue as to where I'm going or where I've been. He laughed and said GPS systems were for the more populated areas and he could just hear a female Jeff Foxworthy asking how in the world did we manage to get way down that road in the first place, then advising not to be so uppity, just pull over and ask for directions. If at a glance they can tell "you ain't from around there, wait until you see a small store selling live bait and sandwiches, buy either then ask how the dickens you get where you are wanting to go.

Friday - October 10, 2008 Noon
I've gotten several emails saying they never expected me to look or sound like I do on the English Bulldog Toenail Trimming Video. Well, to tell the truth, I didn't either. No wonder people say, "you're not from around here are you??" lol lol

I'm on a mission, to search out yard sales for hats, all sorts of hats. I'm determined Jeb is going to wear one, the little stinker. Do you ever just feel "lucky"? Well I do today or maybe it's just that I feel really energetic and have a positive state of mind, so everything is bound go well. - Judy

Friday - October 10, 2008 11:30 AM
I love grits and they are good for the digestive system. I could never understand people saying they didn't like them, what is there not to like. You can eat them most anyway you want from butter, salt and pepper to sugar and a dab of cream. Now I think I know the problem ... I only eat Jimmy Dandy Grits but bought Quaker because it was convenient. Jimmy Dandy have a clean clear texture and taste whereas Quaker has a texture of overcooked oaks, too creamy, definitely a difference. So next time you see Jimmy Dandy Grits buy a sack and tell me what you think.

Ruckus is doing good, his eye has stopped bleeding and there is no drainage. We started him on antibiotics at the first sign of an infection so we're saying a prayer that he will not lose the eye. We now believe the infection is the reason he stopped nursing Petunia. He's going to be spoiled rotten. This morning I felt a little tug at my cover and awoke to Bob asking me to hold Ruckus while he went downstairs to fix his milk and warm his Snuggle pads. The little goober snuggled up under my neck and rooted around looking for a nipple, finally he gave up, stretched out with his belly on my warm arm and dozed until Bob returned.

I forgot to tell you all, when we stopped in a medium size grocery in Corinth, MS I was looking at everything (as usual) and Goodness Gracious I couldn't believe they had Chicken Claws (feet), pickled pig's feet, souse, head sausage, pork brains and of course chittlin's. I had to call out to Bob to "come see". I stopped looking at this point, it was a little more than I could handle. lol lol That reminds me at New Year's some local stores have hog's head. They cut them smack dab down the middle so you can see everything. Yuck!!! No offense meant if you eat this type of food, I've just never been exposed. Yet I love raw oysters which are really gross to many, so what's the difference???

Those English Bulldogs love Sweet Taters!!! I researched the internet and found lots of "natural" dog food products with sweet potatoes as one of the main ingredient, plus sweet tater dehydrated chips as treats. If I had known I would have gotten another bushel.

Isn't it wonderful that there is so much information at our finger tips. - Judy

Boogaloo earned another name today "Ruckus". He set up a howl to let me know he was hungry, the first time he's done this, and I responded with, "what's all the ruckus". So we're going to be raising "a little Ruckus". Now you have to admit it's cute. lol lol Boogaloo Ruckus

It rained most of yesterday and last night, plus we had very high humidity this morning. We've not gotten much sleep because the Ruckus has to be fed every 2 hours. Poor Baby, but he is making progress!!

Bob finally got the video software working and uploaded 4-5 videos, please click above to view them. I'm off to work on my chores. - Judy

The "Girls" and I are going to be sick, sick, sick ... we've eaten fried okra, raw cabbage, raw baby carrots and chewed on beef ribs. I'm sure a dose of pumpkin (for diarrhea, constipation or gas) will be in order later tonight for all of us. lol lol - Judy

Lord Have Mercy, it's raining outside and the critters have gone crazy. The cats were at the back door crying for food. I gave them a pan of dried cat food around on the side porch where the yard dogs couldn't take it away from them. It was only seconds before they were back crying again ... they wanted SALMON. I gave Petunia a beef rib bone, now she wants to "whip" any critter that even looks at her bone, including the cats who are on the back porch looking in. Juliet Girls don't understand this since they share. Guitarman is jealous of the attention being given the "girls" so when I tried to take a video of them chomping down on their cabbage leaves after they "killed them", he barked and whined to the point that I forgot Juliet's name and had to stop filming.

My old computer with the email and PuppyGal software is now up and running. When I asked Bob what problem he found, he said "dirt". Does that tell you how dusty this house has gotten. Bob is loading the video software onto my other computer as I type. He said maybe his computer where it has previously been installed received an update in other software which interferred with the video software. (I think I understood all of that.) Dang it still won't work!!!

Are we sure this isn't Monday?? Sure feels like a Monday. - Judy

Cutting English Bulldog Puppy Toenails

Rosie getting her toenails cut. Goofy pictures of me but I decided to post them anyway. The video if we ever get it uploaded will probably include some of these scenes ....

We're holding our breath that Petunia's male puppy lives. If he does, he'll probably lose one eye, the vet nicked his face while doing the c-section and an infection has set up in the eye which is below the cut. Going on to positive thoughts, we have decided to give him the name "Boogaloo". This weekend I heard some Jazz music played by Boogaloo Ames and his piano playing stirs the soul. You can go here to hear some of his music. Boogaloo's Boogie

Oh I forgot to tell you all that my email, PuppyGal computer started making a horrible noise a few days ago. I haven't turned it back on, nor have I asked Bob to check it out ... our minds were not conducive to this type of activity, but we'll get around to it within the next few days.

Have a good week!!! - Judy

I got a bee in my bonnet this morning that this would be the last time we would be able to get out and go to Flea Markets and such this year, so off we went on an adventure with the baby Bully boy in Bob's arms. Remind me to never listen to Bob again when he tells me the direction to turn, but all turned out well.

Our first stop was at a gathering of folks under a small white canopy, sure they were selling fresh fixed food. Bob was ahead of me when all of a sudden he did a u-turn and said it was a potluck affair at the local Mexican Catholic Church. The aroma was such that I was not above begging for a plate if need be, so I ventured on. The only problem was I don't speak Spanish but they took care of the Gringo, as I heard them refer to me. I was the only Gringo there so it must have been me. (lol) They were selling tacos for $1 each and they were great. Bob shook his head and said "only you" but I personally believe there are lots of people who would have done the same thing I did.

Next we stopped at some pickup trucks parked along the highway selling produce manned by elderly farm ladies. Of course you know I noticed one of them had 2 little dogs which were the greatest ever so we "doggie talked" for awhile. I bought Okra and would you believe they had a bushel of Sweet Taters for only $6, so what do I do ... get another half-bushel for $3. lol lol We know Dumpy likes Sweet Taters, skin and all, but the ones he ate had butter, brown sugar and cinnamon on them. I wonder if Sweet Tater stew would be good for the Bullies. lol lol Taters are from Vardaman, Mississippi which proclaims itself as "The Sweet Potato Capitol of the World".

Now for the wrong turn ... 30 miles out of the way and I was sick and tired of driving so I was good and grouchy. All of a sudden I saw a sign, hit the brakes and make this big long u-turn via the access provided on 4 lane highways. I'm going to keep it a secret for now but I'm really interested in what they have "For Sale". Again, Bob thinks I'm over the edge but if I am, he made me this way!!!

Petunia's baby boy is doing resonably well but we became very concerned late this afternoon because he wasn't pooping like he should, but that passed so we're feeling better and are sure he is also. Bob told me I should take this part out, but I decided if anyone was offended they might as well stop reading now.

We've had a big day, are feeling good and hope we are passing it on to you. - Judy

Good Morning to Everyone!! Around 2 yesterday afternoon I remembered the 234 mile Yard Sale this weekend which starts not too far from here right at the Mississippi State-line and continues south. I didn't expect to be able to attend today due to the possibility that Sugar Cookie would be ready to breed, so with the puppy's supplies packed and loaded, off we went. Whenever I feel the Southern Blues creeping up to my backside, I figure it's better to "out run it" than to let it get me down. (One of Petunia's puppies died and the remaining one is not doing as well as we would like.) Bob and the puppy were patient with me and I had fun, fun, fun. We stopped first at a salvage grocery store, where I loaded up on dried split peas, rice, canned (jars) tomatoes and other assorted stuff to add to the critter stew I cook. I found pickled onions for me, paid for a jar, went out to the van to taste them and went back inside and bought 2 more jars ... good pickled onions are hard to find. The only thing wrong with them is I can still smell the vinegar spilled on them ... forklift strikes again.

It was getting too late by the time we rolled into the start of the 234 miles of sales, but a few were still open so we stopped. The first one was "Matt's 10 cent table" where I bought $3.10 worth of stuffed toys and t-shirts for the puppies. I took pictures which I will post later. I wanted a picture of Matt with his table but some long winded "lookers" converged upon him and I didn't have time to out-wait them.

At our next stop, the "stuff" was really nice but a little too good and high priced for puppies. All of a sudden I saw an Angel's Trumpet bush loaded with blooms. All of my "yellows" died over the winter so I asked for cuttings. Lordy, gardeners surely can get involved talking plants. I promised to drop by cuttings of my Angel's Trumpets on the next passing ... I surely hope I remember because it's not an area I travel much.

The next stop didn't have anything we needed but they had wonderful children's clothes and very reasonable prices ... I almost bought the "Juliet Girls" matching outfits. lol lol Our next stop was in Tishomingo where I walked through 4 yard sales, but everything had retail prices PLUS.

There are all sorts of happenings going on this weekend but we got very little sleep last night, due to the puppy needing to be hand fed every 2 hours, plus we've got too much catch up work to do.

Being able to give love and a helping hand to someone in need who will appreciate it while not taking it for granted, will enrich your life. - Judy

Peanut Butter Cookie what are we going to do with you!!! When he goes out to potty and gets to the area near the van, he refuses to move. He keeps saying the trips to the vet are what he likes better than anything (just like a male). I have to go out with a spray bottle of water to mist his rear before he will move. He will then look at me as if I'm the meanest "English Bulldog Mama" in the world and start moving toward the house. This has been going on for a week so I took him out alone today without a lead ... no problem. lol lol He reminds me of his father, whom I left at a vet's for three days to be bred to a female Bully. When I went to pick him up, he hurt my feelings so bad because when he heard my voice he hid from me. Then once in the van he barked for 20 miles or so down the road. When we got home I told Bob i couldn't believe how he acted but all Bob did was laugh. He said they woke him up with a fresh meal, use him to breed the female dog and allow him to run loose behind the reception counter so the staff gave him constant attention during the day, plus the night staff fell in love with him and gave him lots of extra attention. That's every male Bully's fantasy world come true!!!

Petunia's other male puppy isn't doing real well so we're feeding him human baby formula by hand and holding him whenever possible. I think he needs to heard the rhythm of our hearts so that's where he is now. Bob took a short video of me holding him and as soon as we get the software to working we'll upload it. I'm beginning to think the YouTube web site has too much traffic and that is why the transmission is cutting off before it finishes. We'll try an upload during the night when volume should be lower, before we do anything else regarding the software.

Unpleasant happenings in life have to be put behind us for if we concentrate on them we will become an unpleasant person. We've satisfied ourselves that we did everything possible to save Petunia's puppy but it was just not meant to be, we're moving forward from there. We had to make a run to Selmer, Tennessee late this morning and decided to make the most of the time out.

First we picked up the package waiting for us at UPS, I predict UPS will have financial problems because the people working for them ... are not allowed to make decisions or don't care enough to make a decision which differs from the "service" manual. Then we stopped by a restaurant for a bite to eat. I'm on a special diet so it's awfully hard for us to eat out, but we settled for the Big Boy Breakfast for $4.99 - 3 eggs, 2 sausage patties, 2 biscuits, bowl of sausage gravy, hash browns and if you don't mind put those hash browns on a small plate so we can share this huge meal. The waitress acted as if it was a common request, but at least you know why we have so many Big Boys down in this part of the country.

From there we went to the County Co-op across the road and I got so involved with looking at the items inside that I never got around to going into the garden area, which is why I suggested stopping in the first place. I started asking questions about deer hunting season, it's bow season at present, and just plain forgot my original intent. Don't hate me when I tell you I decided to invite the hunter down the road over to sit on the porch ... to eliminate the buck who is eating up all my plants. For several years we had a herd of females but they didn't eat the plants, this fellow however likes to eat the acorns then have him a salad as a dessert. I've read that a buck will chase off the other deer in his territory and about the time he arrived, they left. I hated to see them go. Maybe if he is no longer here they will return.

Our next stop was the Sweet Tater Man selling on the corner lot where we turn onto our main highway. I noticed some of the taters were clean and showed more color, then I remembered if you want to keep the Taters longer, you won't wash them. I asked him and he said he bought some that had been washed because they were a larger size. I bought a 1/2 bushel for $5 then asked if he knew how to keep them from sprouting. He smiled at me which made his weathered face crinkle up and it seemed his bright blue eyes became more alive ... I was expecting "the answer", instead he half-laughed as he said, to be honest I don't have any idea. We both started laughing, here he is the Tater Man not having the answer to a simple "tater question". Between the two of us we decided a dark, cool, dry place would be best, now to find an area like that around here. lol lol

Then it was time to go home, Petunia's little boy was sure to be hungry. After he was fed, dog beds put in the washer, others hung out to dry, the water hose turned on the Angel's Trumpet flower bed, van unloaded and a couple of critters let out to potty, we took time out to make a video of me clipping Sammie & Rosie's toe nails. It is so very cute and although the lighting is bad we decided to upload it to YouTube, oops the new software was installed but Bob still can't upload the video, it displays that it is creating the data to upload but does not. How very strange. By this time Bob is exhausted because he didn't get but a couple of hours sleep last night so I suggested he take a good long nap and tackle the problem when he was more refreshed.

I have two cute happenings with Peanut Butter Cookie to write up for you but they will have to wait until later. - Judy

Several months ago, I got an really rude email from a breeder outside of Atlanta, whom I did not know. She complained about a picture of one of her puppies being posted in the "open to the public section" of the web site. We invite everyone to post pictures of their Bully on this section. I sent her a very nice return email with the address of the person who posted the picture many, many months ago and suggested she check her records to see if she sold the pup to that person. I never heard back from her ... but I will always remember that she called me a Drama Queen and it was obvious she wanted to call me a much harsher name. Don't ask me why she sent the "nasty email" because I do not know, but tonight I wonder if she would call Bob and I the Drama Queen and King ... Petunia's white face puppy died in my arms at 2:30 or so Tuesday morning, failure to thrive, it just happens. Bob and I both had tears running down our faces. Life is full of drama, especially when a loved canine companion dies or a young one who never got the chance to live passes away. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
