Puppy Gal Welcomes You To

Judy's Journal....

I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.

We're still working hard to catch up on chores which have gotten behind due to puppies, hot weather and our drought.

We took the Ditch Puppies into the vet's today for their Rabies shots and to be spayed or neutered. I sure hope someone comes by and says I would love to have one of those or maybe all of them, but if that doesn't happen I'll just have to consider it as something that was meant to be. Every time I look Dumpy & Boomer in the face I am reminded of how old they getting to be, but they certainly have not slowed down.

I was helping Bob to take this video of Mandy earlier. You can hear one of the other pups barking in the background, because we were using their pool and had put them in a giant storage container. lol lol I bet it was Li'l Cookie doing the barking, because she couldn't see what was going on, nosey little thing that she is. lol lol I hope you enjoy the video and will notice that I had her tail shortened. I kept looking at it and decided she would look better if it were shorter. She got that tail from PepperJack her great-uncle. There is a joint where the tail should end, but it didn't. Well it does now.

We now know why Grunt doesn't like a camera flash, how do you like that look Lisa gave me. She immediately turned to their plastic bucket puppy house and kinda chewed on it lightly, like that is what she'd like to do to the camera. lol lol She's such a wonderful Bully Mama.

I'm not doing much today but I needed to make pepper relish before the cold temperatures kill the peppers so poor Bob not only had to pick the peppers, he also had to stay right with me in the kitchen to do things I could normally do, like get the top off the food processor after I chopped up the ingredient. I hate that food processor and I'm getting a another one when we go into town next.

I pulsed lots of peppers, big head of cabbage, yellow onion, garlic. We don't have any ripe tomatoes so I used 2 large cans of diced tomatoes. To this I added a cup of white vinegar, a cup and a half of brown sugar and a teaspoon of kosher salt. It's cooking now on low. It needs to be cooked way down, probably a couple of hours. Then it will be ready to eat with hot dogs, beans, peas and whatever else Bob decides to try it on. lol

As I was dumping the bell peppers into the pot I saw a inch size hunk that didn't get chopped so I fished it out with a spoon and popped it into my mouth .... big mistake, where in the world did Bob get that pepper!!! It looked like a poblano which have almost no heat, but this one was doggone hot. I spit it in the trash, then immediately reached for the salt container, poured a palm full and licked it into my mouth and lips. Almost immediately it stopped the burning. I washed the salt out of my mouth with a sip of water.

Speaking of burning, if you ever burn yourself, pour vinegar on it (any kind) and if you are stung by a flying insect wet the area and pour salt on it. I promise both of these work.

I'll be back in a few minutes with pictures of the "babies". I took them while I was watching the relish heat up on high then I turned it down on low to simmer. - Judy

I've been sick the last week with a fever of 100.5. Just enough to make me feel bad but not enough to keep me down. The really strange part is I have no idea what is wrong, no aches or pains anywhere, no infected sinus, etc. I have a slightly enlarged heart and a mild heart murmur, so maybe all the panting I've been doing in the hot weather has gotten my bad lung infected, but you would think that I would be coughing if that were the case.

We may have men coming tomorrow to help with some tasks if the sawmill where they work doesn't have anything for them to do, one of them worked with Bob on Saturday. It's rained so much lately that the loggers haven't been able to get the logs out to the sawmill. They are absolutely a God Sent to help us get this place in order for the winter.

I told Bob I didn't ever want to have Summer puppies again. There is just too much to do in the summer ... extra effort to keep all the Bullies inside and cool, grass, weeds, flower beds but the puppies take all of our time and I run around like a crazy woman trying to do it all.

We decided we're going to breed the females that come into heat NOW, puppies hopefully in 60 something days, release 60 or so days later so that puts it the end of February, but no more puppies in the house after May 1, so that will give us time to enjoy the summer and be able to keep everything in order.

I'm going back to bed now. I just read this entry and it sounds like someone with a fever. lol - Judy

It's cold and wet here. The storm is circling around and it appears we will be getting showers most of the day. It's a good day to snuggle up in bed with the Bully "babies".

Knowing that Kelly, Grunt's new mama, would want pictures I set out this morning to get some great shots of him. lol lol What I got were pictures of him hating the camera. I would call to him but he wouldn't look at me. At first I thought he was sleepy, but then he tried to burrow under the covering of the "little house" I made for them and started whining. Poor Baby I didn't mean to scare him with the flashing lights. I had to pick him up and love on him for awhile. As you will see the girls could care less about the flashing camera. I should have taken more of them, but I felt too sorry for Grunt. He needed me to hold and love on him.

Yesterday went by without me getting anything accomplished and today Bob is insisting that I "do nothing" because I now have a stomach "bug" which is probably the cause of the low grade fever. I tried to blame him by saying it was the carry-out lunch he brought me from an Oriental restaurant on Friday, but he knew I was kidding. I love their food and was so proud that he was thoughtful enough to bring home lunch when he went to town on business. Oh well, I'm going to lay low and hope I'm over this quickly.

Remember our interaction with others has the potential to either build up their pride and confidence or tear it down, always aim for making a positive impact. - Judy

PS I asked Bob to change my password on eBay and not tell me the new one, just in case the fever gets higher. The last two times I've had fever I made stupid minimum bids for the fun of it and WON. Mercy I didn't need all those Iris or the prior time all those Lotus seeds.

I wonder how many people plan their life around the weather forecast, out of necessity we must and I'm sure farmers, gardeners, landscapers, fishermen and those in the building industry do, but at this moment I can't think of any other groups.

The forecast for the next 7 days is - clear and warm for today and tomorrow, then 4 days of high percent chance of rain, with temperatures dropping from a high of 85 tomorrow down to the mid seventies. The real show stopper is a forecasted low of 38F for Saturday night the 27th.... oops all the critters need to be kept warm, plants need protection and winterizing must be completed. Looks like today and tomorrow are the prime days for making preparations and planning out how to meet the objectives. Those 3 Ditch Puppies (Bob pulled from a hole in a ditch along side the road where they had been abandoned) are "NOT" coming into the house so I must work out a plan to keep them warm when the temperature drops. They are such goofy BIG pups. lol

My tail feathers are dragging a bit this morning. I suppose I was just worn out and picked up a bug that is causing me to have a low grade fever. However as you can see from the above, I'll just have to shake the dust off and get to work. Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to hug those you love.- Judy

Lord Have Mercy!! Last night at 9:46 a line of severe thunderstorms passed through MS & TN going straight east. When it hit here the electricity went off and has just now been restored.

It was so eerie .. there were no sounds ... no neighborhood dogs barking, no distant sounds of trains running or cars passing on the "main" road. I couldn't sleep for wondering what the damage in the area might be. Even the puppies hunkered in and didn't want to be fed until 3AM. BigDaddy got up to attend to them and called the electric department. They said they would send someone out because they had received a report that the electricity had been restored.

We're anxious for daylight so we can survey the damage. - Judy

PS I'm having computer problems so the above was never uploaded this morning. It is now 9:10 PM. The damage was minor but just enough to frustrate. Then we gave ourselves a good talking to ... we needed to feel Thankful, instead of frustrated, because things could have been so much worse.

It's time to catch up on chores pushed aside because we were caring for all the puppies. Speaking of puppies, I have many people express interest in Grunt, but he is already reserved. Cammie will be available but I'm wanting to let Lil' Cookie get a bit older before any decisions are made about her.

It rained here most of the night but it was a slow steady rain and we certainly needed it. The radar this morning shows very little activity coming our way. The high here is suppose to be 82F. I hope to be able to work in the yard today, but right now the humidity is 92%, making it almost impossible for me to breath well enough to work hard. I just took a tour of the Angel's trumpets and I'm trying to decided what stays and what goes. The Shampoo Gingers are about to bloom and the plants are healthy but not something I want to continue to winter- over inside. The Hidden Ginger plant is big and beautiful but again I have no desire to pamper them through the winter for blooms next year.

Be sure to see the pictures posted last night, they are so funny. Here is just one of the 27. Have a wonderful day!! - Judy

Faith Puppy Pickup Pictures!

Faith got her Saturday night bath a little early -- at 3 this morning! because today, she's going home! She said goodbye to her Pink Rabbit and off we went to meet her new daddy at the Memphis Airport. Faith got to sit up front and watch the traffic (carefully ensconced in her puppy plastic bucket). The plane was a little late so we got to meet about 24 new friends and talked about how cute Faith was and their pets. So by the time her new daddy (Lyndon) deplaned, she was dozing... But, once he picked her up, she climbed up on his shoulder -- home! Faith's new daddy knows a lot about Bulldogs (there's a big brother bulldog waiting at home) so the discussions centered on a new name -- Bonnie ??? and whether to shorten her tail.

Soon it was time to check in and go through security. Faith was tucked into a green carry on carrier and went to sleep! Lyndon promised to send lots of pictures as soon as they get settled! She is such a happy scamp and so pretty-- we are going to miss her, too.

Puppy Pictures......
It started with Li'l Cookie being sound asleep on top of the bear when I went downstairs after our lunch break. I went back upstairs and asked Bob to bring the camera down. Before he could take the first picture, she had opened her eyes and was looking at him. Then the flashing of the camera woke up Grunt & Cammie. Grunt decided he wanted to sleep on top of the bear and as you see he got his way. He didn't growl or anything but I suspect when they were mouthing each other he pushed harder. He does that when they are nursing also. He pushed the girls off their nipples so he can have them. lol lol I suppose we could call him Boss Grunt.

We worked outside all day yesterday and boy were we tired when the day was done. For the last two years the first frost has been around October 24, therefore we have to winterize in a hurry .... so much work is involved, but I doubled the load when I ordered a bunch of Iris. I feel like Lucille Ball in the Candy Factory, I have Iris everywhere. lol

Bob dug up Voodoo Lilies for me yesterday because they are getting too much sun and if I'm going to keep any they need to be in a shaded bed. I had them in a plastic pan on a stool on the back porch. Later when the Ditch Puppies were out running, I noticed one of them laying down chewing on something, you guessed it, one of the Voodoo Lily bulbs. We had to laugh because he got it out of a pan which is identical to their food pan. Then I discovered that they had been in one of my flower beds and trampled down some Day Lilies. The Ditch Puppies are really good puppies, but 3 is a little much at one time.

Now Pictures of Faith, taken this morning. She was full of herself.

We're going to go back to bed and try to start this day all over again. Neither one of us has any energy, so instead of forcing ourselves to do some chores, we're going to take a good long nap. I love my "babies" however all the activity necessary to maintain them until they go to their new homes, really wears us out, me more so than Bob.

We've taken pictures of Mandy already but I'll have to upload them later. Faith is next, then the 3 little puppies. I hope to have some of all of them posted here today sometime. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
