Sunday - Dec 7, 2008 4:00 PM

Finally I resized the pictures I took on Thanksgiving at the Friends Rescue Group Turkey Fund Raiser. As you will be able to tell it was a great success. I've eaten many a turkey in my 62 years and these turkeys were surely the very best.

Friends Rescue Group and their customers. We Thank You and want you to know the world is a better place because you are here!!!

"A Lucy Kinda Thing - Fuzzy Beds" Sunday - Dec 7, 2008 4:00 PM
Fuzzy Beds For The Bulldogs Points to consider ... the apparel manufacturer in Rienzi, MS has closed down and Mr Juette is selling out his leftover stock, so after they are gone, never again will I have the opportunity to buy Fuzzy jackets, vests and pullovers to use as Fuzzy Beds for the critters only $1 each. I got too tired to do any more shopping yesterday but he's going to be open on 12/20 so I'll probably be there. The items I'm using for dog beds were seconds. They had 1st class merchandise for $5 to $10 but I spent all my time piling up dog beds, some of which Bob and I will wear to keep warm while walking the critters. If you live in the area and want warm clothes to wear, consider going to Rienzi, MS at 11 AM on 12/20. Just go to Rienzi and ask anyone to point you in the direction of the fleece sale.

How many did I end up getting??? Well this was my second trip and spent about $40 here is a picture of what all I got ... this time!! Now tell me that's not a "Lucy Kinda Thing To Do". lol lol - Judy

"Fuzzy Mothers and Chasing Bones" Sunday - Dec 7, 2008 9:30 AM
Bob, Jeb and I were suppose to be in a Christmas Parade in Bolivar, TN yesterday, but it was so very cold. Jealously guarding my health I decided not to attend, instead later in the day I went chasing bones for the critters and got material for what I call Fuzzy Mothers, which is a fuzzy material covering for a drink bottle filled with hot water. Also I got a load of 2nd quality fleece vests and jackets for critter beds. Mr. Jon K Juette, owner of the apparel manufacturing establishment which closed gave me a BIG arm full of material to make beds for some of the rescues at Friends of Hardeman County Animal Control. It appeared to be all orange in color therefore would make great fancy collars for them to wear next year at during the October and November Adoption days, anything to attract attention. Speaking of beds, a couple of weeks ago the junk store had a silk sheet and I told Bob we had to get it for Peanut. Sure enough he rubbed his face on it rolled in it and just acted like a fool over his silky pink sheet.

I couldn't find any place with bones to give away or sell. Normally I stock up on pork liver during the butchering season but that was only one of many things I didn't do after the first cold spell. One place told me to come back Thursday or Friday for beef bones and another said they had given all they had away earlier in the day. I'm now going to turn toward deer processors to ask questions about deer bones being brittle, etc. Hunters field dress the deer, leaving the heart, liver and other innards for the wild critters to eat so I've heard so I won't be getting any of those but maybe some BIG bones, we'll see.

I hope you are having a peaceful weekend. - Judy

PS This Saturday trip was my way of handling Brooks passing. My nature is to out-run sadness.

"R.I.P Brooks" Saturday - Dec 6, 2008 8:30 AM
Poor Brooks died in her sleep last night. She was 10 years old and it was not expected since her mother and grandmother were 12 & 13 respectively when they passed away. She was showing her age, morning stiffness, etc. May she have one of the biggest bones in heaven. - Judy

"Eatin' Out" Friday - Dec 5, 2008 8:00 PM
It's been one active day, all my days are active. Just think if I had good sense we would be down in Progresso, Mexico sitting on the beach with our feet tucked in the sand, drinking their wonderful coffee, watching the boat lights in the distance and talking to all the people around us. Instead we're working hard!!!

My Birthday present, new computer chair with a massager, arrived yesterday, well actually just the slip of paper from UPS saying they tried to deliver Wednesday and Thursday but missed us, I guess the "No Trespassing" rope was stretched across the drive and the driver didn't have a phone number to call for one of us to give permission to enter. We opted for driving to Selmer, Tennessee to pick up the box and while there split a big country breakfast at a neat local restaurant. The owner is an Elvis Presley impersonator who's on the road preforming most of the time. Gracious everyone one tells me everything, but I had one up on the lady who was doing all the Elvis talkin' this morning ... Linda Johnson Elvis' last girlfriend is a cousin of mine. Jerry Lee Lewis was another cousin's Uncle and T.G. Sheppard is a cousin on down the line, probably 3rd or so, not that I know him personal or anything but it's nice to throw these piece of information out when someone is putting on the dog, like she was. lol lol There are a few others but the waitress got my attention refilling my coffee cup and when I turned back to the woman she was already heading to the next table to tell the people about all the Elvis pictures she had cut out of magazines years ago. lol lol

There is a small waiting area inside the door marked "restrooms". The ladies room was occupied and about the time I decided to heck with the "Mens" sign on the other door, gender shouldn't count when you "got to go" the ladies room door opened. At the same a another lady entered the waiting room. I told the newly appeared woman to go on into the ladies room and I'd take the men's. She said the same idea had come to her and she was closer so in she went. Meanwhile the lady who had occupied the ladies room, gave us her blessing and we all had a good laugh.

Say Goodnight Gracie!!! - Judy

"Walking English Bulldogs" Friday - Dec 5, 2008 7:00 AM
We all slept in this morning, now it's time to walk the critters ... it's 25 F. Boy Doggie that's cold!!! - Judy

"Breeding English Bulldogs" Thursday - Dec 4, 2008 6:30 AM
Yesterday we worked harder than normal if that is possible. We had a day worker here to lend Bob a hand with some heavy projects like moving outside exercise kennels to an area in the yard which is more accessible to me and my giant plants to an outside storage building so they won't freeze or be in my way in the kitchen, I'm so tired of ducking under plants. The day worker left at 3:30 and we loaded up the van with Bessie Smith and Peanut to take them to the vet's to be bred. This is her third breeding so hopefully she will become pregnant.

After going to the vet's, we stopped at Walmart for dog food, came home, walked and fed the inside critters, caught the "strays that came to stay" to lock them in their dens because it will be real cold tonight, plus fed the cats and meanwhile Bob put the puppies (4 males and 1 female) with Strawberry Pie to nurse. They are so cute. Ruckus is starting to miss not getting as much attention so I'll have to make sure to give him more, he is such a good puppy. It was 8 PM before we sat down for the night and then Bob got up every 3 hours to put the pups with Strawberry to nurse.

We've just now pulled ourselves out of bed. We'll try to get the English Bulldogs and Melanie out to potty before the day worker comes this morning. I certainly hope he comes because I have several more projects I would like completed which I believe will help facilitate me being able to take care of the potential upcoming litters. Then I've drawn up plans for a covered outside exercise area for the Bullies and that is why we decided to have puppies to cover the expense.

Got to run the Bullies "have to go" out. - Judy

"Training English Bulldogs" Wednesday - Dec 3, 2008 6:30 AM
Great News!!! Dear Friends, after being sick for 3 years I'm almost well ... just need for the shin to finish healing. It feels so good to be able to work hard again. lol lol This is the first year I've NOT gotten bronchitis during October, I've kicked the fever habit, etc., etc., ... there were times during the last 3 years when I wished the Good Lord would just take me away, I was so sick and tired of being down. (Sorry if I sound like a drama queen.)

I said all that to say those of you who visited before I got sick I'm sure will remember how well trained the Bullies were. All I had to do was make sounds like I was clearing my throat or snap my fingers and they came to attention. If they were barking, immediately they were quiet. Blowing my tin whistle long and loud meant they were in BIG trouble, one medium toot meant pay attention and little toots meant come to mama. A long, loud whistle that was shrill at the end meant to follow the sound back home, just in case they wandered too far from the house. WELL, Papa Bob has spoiled these critters something pitiful and has not used my commands or for that matter any commands. I'm going to have to retrain them, what a chore it's going to be, but oh so necessary. I'm just proud I'm able to do it as soon as my shin gets well!!

Raising Bullies makes me laugh, smile, feel warm inside and at times makes me cry. - Judy

PS Researching sperm motility, because Guitarman's is low, has got me all confused. Two things I have decided upon, no tight briefs or alchol for the Guitarman. (lol lol) Now wasn't that silly. The Vet looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language when I said those words to him.

"Demanding English Bulldogs" Tuesday - Dec 2, 2008 8:30 AM
Jeb, I'll admit that you were trying your best, but you would never be able to catch a deer running on those short fat legs of yours. And I have a question, what would you do with it if you caught it ... lick it???

The above reminded me of a story .... a few weeks ago Jeb was out taking care of his business when all of a sudden the 3 "strays" charged toward him, split up just feet away and went around. Poor Jeb was so confused because he didn't see the deer run about five feet south of his backside. The look on the poor fella's face almost spoke aloud ... can't I get any privacy!!

"Demanding English Bulldogs" Tuesday - Dec 2, 2008 7:00 AM
Good Morning From Bob, the Bullies and Me.
Because it's been snowing and raining, the critters couldn't go outside, so they are stir crazy and are making me just plain CRAZY. They want out, oops they want back inside. This goes on all day long. We've managed to sleep in this morning (lol) but they heard me talking to Bob so they started telling me they "had to go".

If ever you can't get your dog to take a pill, bake it a meatloaf then bury the pill in a hunk. Worked like a charm. The only problem is Bob wanted the meatloaf for himself. If it isn't a spoiled critter, it's a spoiled Bob!!! - Judy

"Came Close To Being Parents Of a 3 yr old today!!" Monday - Dec 1, 2008 4:30 PM
In Walmart after taking care of our business at the Vet's I was looking at hats and gloves. There was a lady there with a child in her shopping cart. When she looked at the gloves like I had on, I told her although I loved how they were made, the weave was too loose therefore they didn't keep my hands warm. Later checking out I was behind the same woman. We're talking the most precious 3 year old ever was facing me and her mother was in the front of the shopping cart. Cutie Pie looked at me then looked at the corn chips I was buying. I asked if she wanted some and she nodded her head yes. I asked her mother if she could have some then told the little girl as soon as the cashier scanned then I would give her some. She didn't understand any of the conversation but she sure knew how to cut her beautiful eyes toward the chips then look at me. Never did her facial expression change. Her mother and I chatted as I poured chips into the smallest Walmart bag they had etc. I exclaimed what an Angel the little girl was to which her mother joked saying she could be just as bad as she was sweet and that she ran her house. I laughed and told her I would be glad to babysit and she responded with I could just have her. The woman patted her stomach and said the baby inside would be number 6. In the van Bob asked if the woman was serious about allowing us to have her and I told him I thought it might have been the first step in that direction and if I hadn't been afraid all these critters would scare the child to death I would have seriously considered pursuing the idea with the lady ... now I can't get the little girl off my mind. DogGone have I lost my mind!!! - Judy

"Snowing At PuppyGal's Place!!" Monday - Dec 1, 2008 8:30 PM
It's snowing to beat the band, big fluffy flakes which appear to be localized. Bob was scheduled to be at the vet's office at 8 AM but was afraid he wouldn't be able to get back home due to snow accumulation on the roads, 2 lane paved country roads with twists and turns galore. It would have been a good day to sleep in but the Bullies had to go potty.

We put in a 14 hour whirling dervish work day yesterday so we're both tired today. Along with everything else I did, I turned a lot of ground beef into chili, taco filling, meatloaf and soup. The critters went crazy smelling all that meat cooking. I had barking Bullies in the house, cats rubbing their bodies on the back door facing and "stray dogs that came to stay" prancing back and forth in front of the back door. Even Ruckus got in on the barking act. Crazy critters.

Luckily we have a double oven so I was able to cook the meatloaf in the smaller one. I'm having a hard time cleaning all the burned on grease off the regular oven. Yesterday I soaked and scrubbed in-between cooking, washing and sweeping .... dang wet leaves are being tracked into the house by Bob and the critters. I can't teach any of them to wipe their feet before entering. lol lol

I sincerely hope you have a good week. - Judy

"Happy Birthday To Me!!" Saturday - Nov 29, 2008 2:00 PM
I'm 62 years old today!! I wanted a t-shirt that said "Today's the day, wish me Happy Birthday" because I thought it would be fun, but couldn't find one.

I spent most of the morning at the vet's office and then doing chores. I told Bob we needed to change our birthdays to a mild weather month so we could celebrate and not have to worry about the critters. I'm thinking maybe April 29 would be a good date. lol lol

I can't remember which day last week it was that I burned the morning toast and then tried to set the oven on fire smoke was bellowing out of it, the fire alarms were going off, the dryer buzzer was telling me the cycle had finished and the critters were going crazy. Bob had spilled grease taking the critter's turkey out of the oven and I forgot to clean it, the next day I turned the oven on preheat and there she blew. There were a couple of more things of that nature that happened but for the life of me I've forgotten what. I've not had enough sleep so my brain is foggy.

Take care of yourself and those you love. If you find it hard to put a smile on your face, give some thought to what my Great Aunt told me once about attitudes toward life "pretend and it will become true". I've used her advice on more than one occasion and found she surely was right. - Judy

"So Much To Be Thanksful For" Friday - Nov 28, 2008 10:00 AM
Yesterday was extremely busy!! Thanksgiving Dinner was Smoked Turkey bought at the Friends Of Hardeman County Animal Control fund raiser. I took lots of pictures but I'm afraid not too many are going to turn out to be good. I'll edit and resize them later this afternoon when I get back from buying "dog beds". A manufacturing company in Mississippi has gone out of business and are selling their "left-over" stock at rock bottom prices. I bought some a few weeks back and the Bullies love the snuggly warm fleece.

While being a whirling dervish after getting back from the fund raiser, taking care of puppies, washing and drying beds, plus feeding Bob and the critters, my mind was tallying up all the things for which I am Thankful. The list is long and the regrets are few, I hope the same goes for you. - Judy

"Strawberry's English Bulldog Babies" Wednesday - Nov 26, 2008 7:00 PM
The puppy that Bob has been trying to save, died today. It's sad but we have to remind ourselves better now than later. This is the sad part of raising English Bulldogs. He was one of the two which had thin palates, the other one appears to be doing fine, well as of right now anyway.

It's been a long stressful day so for supper I made it real simple, grilled Rotel Cheese sandwiches, using garlic artisan bread sold at most of the larger Walmarts. Much to my surprise it was great!!!

Tomorrow we pick up our Smoked Thanksgiving Turkey, another Friends of Hardeman County Animal Control fund raiser. I've eaten many baked and fried turkeys, but the one we got last year was the best Turkey I've ever eaten. It will just be Bob, the critters and I because it's too crazy around here to make plans to go eat with friends or family. - Judy

"Ruckus English Bulldog Puppy Pictures & Video" Tuesday - Nov 25, 2008 8:30 AM
If this entry is scrambled just overlook it, it was a long hard night. One of the puppies had trouble breathing and would not nurse. Bob hand fed her every 2 hours or so last night and this morning but the only way to keep her from crying was for him to put her under his shirt so she could wiggle up to his arm pit where she stuck her nose as close as possible. She is over the "spell" but we are watching her closely. Poor Bob what a night he had!!!

Here are some pictures of Ruckus that I took on Sunday. I hope they make you smile. - Judy

PS We got Strawberry in and out of the puppy pool yesterday by giving her a tiny piece of donut, so first thing this morning she's wagging her, not much of a, tail as if to say "more donuts please". lol lol If I just had someone to clean house for a few days I could really enjoy her and the puppies.

"More To Be Thankful For english Bulldog Puppies" Monday - Nov 24, 2008 2:30 PM
I kept waking up last night for various reasons, concern about Strawberry Pie going into labor, Ruckus eating hours old food and finally my synapses snapped. It was like I had taken a really strong pain pill, doze and then pop awake, doze, pop awake.

Strawberry showed signs of going into labor but her temperature had not dropped, which every one of the female Bullies prior to her had done and it's one of the classic signs of going a female dog going into labor. Finally we decided to take her to the vet to see if she was dilated or dilating. Just as Bob bend to put a lead on her, she had a puppy. Now it's panic time since a "water baby" which English Bulldogs are known for having, might get stuck in the birth canal. I called the vet, told them the situation and that we were on our way.

Scissors and towels in hand, Bob rode in the back of the van with Strawberry while I drove. It was raining and the need fuel light was on. I always stop to get gas immediately, afraid I will run out if I don't, but this time I was more afraid of birthing complications. Windshield wipers clacking, windshield fogged over just like my brain, wet roads, mama Bully trying to have another baby and Bob has gone hyper on me. I told him do what you have to do, but don't tell me about it, I'm trying to drive!!!

When we got there the vet tech had things ready and it wasn't a minute until the vet walked in from being out at a ranch taking care of cattle. He pulled of his coat, threw it on a counter and proceeded to take care of puppy business.

She had 8 puppies total but one was a water baby which stopped breathing shortly after delivery and couldn't be revived. 2 have thin palates which will probably develop and one is a tiny little thing, so we have 3 to watch carefully and say a prayer that they survive.

We stopped in the parking lot to show the puppies to a family with 2 young girls, they were thrilled to see just born puppies. As I pulled out onto the highway, Bob said "Happy Birthday Sweetheart" my birthday is Saturday and you know what I'll be doing. - Judy

"Ruckus and Mama Slept In This Morning" Sunday - Nov 23, 2008 11:00 AM
Last night when my head hit the mattress, I don't use a pillow, I was asleep. I only woke up 3 times each because Ruckus was moving around in his "box" which is sitting on the floor next to the bed. Each time Bob got up to change his bedding or get him food, plus check on Strawberry Pie who is scheduled to deliver any time now.

The next time I woke up was because I heard Ruckus eating leftover food. I immediately wake up if this happens because we don't want his digestive system upset. Gracious it was 9:30 AM so I drug myself out of the bed and got ready to start my morning chores. Bob had already let the Bulldogs and Melanie out to potty, for this I thank him!!!

While cooking breakfast and fixin' coffee we listened to Rock-N-Roll. Rosie was looking at my feet with much interest as I danced with her, see what a long sleep-in does for me!! I bet Rosie will be trying to BeBop in no time at all. Jeb is the only other one who tries, all the other Bullies just do the Bully Butt Wiggle which is so very cute.

I must get back to work now just wanted to say, "we're feeling good, going strong and wanted to pass it along". - Judy

"Breeding Eenglish Bulldogs" Saturday - Nov 22, 2008 8:30 PM
The last two days have been hectic to say the least. I forgot about the Pictures With Santa Fund Raiser until I walked into the vet's office and saw my friend Cathy. I would have dressed up a bit had I remembered.

I didn't sleep much at all last night because I was worried about Li'l Cookie. We took her in for sperm implanting Friday and they were unable to complete the procedure because she had an infection .... first it's Guitarman's pokey sperm then it's Li'l having an infection. We got her home and later when she decided she would get up and move around her right eye was swollen shut. Bob went down to see about her around Midnight and thought he saw something in her eye so he flushed it out with eye wash, but this morning it was still very red so we had the vet take a look, the pupil was scratched so he gave me drops. Now Li'l is taking antibiotics morning and night, plus the eye drops twice daily.

As you can tell Peanut was the clown of the Santa Day, he is so silly!!! Li'l was her normal "chickie" lovable self. lol lol Peanut has a sinus problem for which I have been giving him antihistamine, but I swear he's making the most gosh awful breathing sounds. Bob kept telling me Peanut just tries to talk that way but I was convinced that he was getting really sick and I was afraid it would lead to pneumonia. The vet checked him, the congestion is only in his sinus .... BOY did I learn my lesson when we were leaving the Santa Picture area. He had gotten attention and been loved on by everyone, so on the way out he gives out with this long rambling snorting raspy breathing sounds as he walked the full length of the room, as if to say he had enjoyed the company and would be back again soon. Dang dogs and kids will make a lair out of me every time.

"Light Snow??? Where???", Thursday - November 20, 2008 9:15 PM
Earlier today the weather forecast was for a low tonight of 26F but now it's 16F and states that currently we have a light snow. It's not snowing here and I hope it doesn't start. .... That goes to show you how tired I am, 16F is for tomorrow night, but it still isn't snowing so I was right about that part. lol lol

We've been on the road giving away plants and plant cuttings to friends, buying the critters a turkey which were on sale, etc. plus gathering vitamins and supplements for Guitarman. The thing I forgot to get was cheese, most dogs will take any kind of pill or capsules if you dip or wrap it in cheese. Guitarman favors Rotel Dip, silly dog.

Ruckus is in his box with a full tummy and a warm snuggle disk, Bob has finally sat down after eating his supper on the run he had so much work to finish, I've drank a cup of hot tea and now I'm ready for bed. Hopefully I'll get to sleep quickly because the critters will have us up and going by 5:30 AM for sure.

I was asked today why I take in strays, a question I've never been bluntly asked before so I wasn't prepared for a quick response ... finally I lent voice to the feelings in my heart. If a critter comes and wants to stay of it's on accord, I feel it was sent by the Good Lord and there is a powerful reason behind all that he does. - Judy

"Whew!!", Wednesday - November 19, 2008 7:15 PM
I've just sat down for the first time today. I have a bag of popcorn, a bottle of Crystal Hot Sauce and a big bottle of ice cold water. I'm going to sit right here and eat this popcorn no matter what happens.

We took Li'l Cookie to the vet yesterday to breed with Guitarman, only to verify that his sperm still has a motility problem, there a blood sample was drawn for Li'l to determine the maximum effective date of sperm implant. Since his sperm has produced puppies prior, I'm confused as to why he is having a "lazy sperm" problem. I'm making a list of vitamins and other supplements which are recommended for humans with this problem to ask the vet if there is as problem of starting him on them. We've been giving him a compound made for horses but it does not contain all of the ingredients (vitamins/minerals).

Since most of yesterday was spent "on the road" I had to play catch up with my chores and then the critters like to have run me ragged wanting to go outside. Finally I just left four in outside runs for a couple of hours and it seemed that is exactly what they wanted. I believe we are all a little stir crazy, just think what it is going to be like when it really gets cold and windy here.

I'll have to make myself take time out to take some videos, you have to see Ruckus playing with his stuffed animals and fussing at me for special food. I gave him a chicken nugget this afternoon and he raised a ruckus until he got another and when he finished it, he wanted a third.

Late this afternoon when going out to walk on a lead with Bob, Sugar Cookie who is pregnant got snarly with Peanut Butter Cookie, her brother. He was standing just off the porch facing toward the back door and didn't move to let her by. I guess he now knows to be more considerate of grouchy pregnant females. I had to take her lead while Bob put a lead on Peanut and brought him into the house. He just looked at both of us as if to say, "I didn't do anything". It's OK Peanut but don't even look at her puppies when they get here or she'll take your head off. He still doesn't know what to think about the sister who eats out of the same bowl and loves to play with him getting grouchy over nothing ... he can't relate to her being "with pups". Poor Peanut lol lol - Judy

Angel's Trumpet Blooming In the Kitchen
Brugmansia, Angel's Trumpet

Good thing we have 9 foot ceilings, this 10 foot Angel's Trumpets is bent because it was leaning toward the sun otherwise we would never been able to get it in the house. It's in a giant pot in the center of the floor and if not for these beautiful blooms it would not be in the kitchen I promise. Tomorrow it goes to Bob's shop.

"Raising Ruckus", Tuesday - November 18, 2008 8:15 AM
Here are some pictures Bob took of me and Ruckus. When Bob got out of bed he handed me Ruckus who started fretting because he didn't like the change one bit, he was out from under the covers, plus Mama Judy's lap is too little, he likes snuggling in his Daddy Bob's arms much better. Isn't that a sour look on his face. (Please forgive my PJ's) - Judy

It's 28 F so none of the English Bulldogs are interested in going out to potty. Ruckus is snuggled up under the bed covers with Bob, neither of them are the least interested in moving. Meanwhile I want coffee and a bowl of grits to jump start my day, I've got way too much to do.

Bob cooked both Acorn and Butternut squash yesterday by baking them in the oven and adding butter and seasonings during the last 10 minutes of cook time. They surely were good.

Our electricity was off for several hours yesterday so my daily chores were not completed when I decided to retire for the night. My leg is much better but still swells and hurts a good bit if I'm on it too long, therefore I couldn't keep at it until the chores were complete.

Oops Melanie is telling me via a high pitched whine that she "has to go" so it's about to get active around here. When we are outside she will come running to me and when I greet her, with an air kiss and scratch behind the ear, she will roll over on her back as if there is more to be done. I firmly believe a female taught her to do this since she won't do it for Bob, but I have no clue as to the game we are suppose to be playing.

Bob and I fit with the old saying "we might wear out but we surely weren't going to rust out". Enjoy life no matter what stumbling blocks have been put in your way. - Judy

"Buying A Toilet ", Monday - November 17, 2008 10:30 AM
Toilets: if you haven't read about the Japanese toilets with built in music, exhaust fan and heat, please do yourself a favor and search out the Internet for articles. Paying over $2,000 for a toilet is beyond my comprehension, but we do have to buy a new one. While dropping off to sleep last night I dreamed of going to Lowe's to see what they had and as a result causing people to stare when they saw me perched on one to see how it fit. Next I had several people who were shopping for toilets doing the same, I even handed out magazines so they would have a more real experience. Upon hearing my dream, Bob made me promise to purchase by looking at them versus trying them out. - Judy

"Bully Breakfast: Hairy Potter Pie and Turkey Stew ", Sunday - Nov 16, 2008 9:30 AM
I noticed the last of the Sweet Tater Pie was a tad discolored, looked more closely, I saw the start of Hairy Mold. I gently scraped off the top so I could feed it to some critter, too many around here to let it go to waste. First one to give it a try was Melanie who started calling out to the the English Bulldogs, "it was Hairy Potter Pie and they didn't want any" ... but in a side whisper she told me she would finish it off for me. They were expecting to see a pie with Harry Potter's face sculptured on it but that was not to be. They all ate their small slice and begged for more.

I've got turkey stew warming and their kibble soaking, so it's Hairy Pie and Turkey Stew for their breakfast. The smell of the turkey stew warming on the stove will bring the "cats someone threw away" and the "strays that came to stay" to the back door wanting their fair share. I dare not reach for a pear or apple least the parrot and cockatiels see me and start squawking for "their share".

I'm off to work on morning chores, we just sat down for a few minutes to drink a cup of coffee and eat a bowl of grits. - Judy

PS The critters love the leftover Halloween pumpkin I bought for $.50. My only experience in cooking one made me leery since peeling a pumpkin is tough!!! I came up with the idea of cutting it in chunks then put it in a browning bag and pop it into the oven for an hour. Worked like a charm and then all I had to do was scoop out the flesh with a spoon.

"Demanding Pregnant English Bulldogs ", Friday - November 14, 2008 8:30 PM
One thing is for certain, they know how to make me jump through hoops!! We have 3 pregnant females at present and they are demanding all my attention. Mama you forgot my vitamins, Mackerel should would taste good, I love turkey is the one baking in the oven just for me??? Then the big puppies are saying it's time to go out "hurry", I want some of that .. whatever it is, I'm hungry, I'm thirsty, I want you to play with me. Then there is Ruckus, one of the sweetest pups we've ever had who had started growling with a yap on the end to let me know he has to go, NOW. Today besides his mushy food with baby formula he's had tiny bites of beef liver, 1/4 of a calcium tablet crumbled up and eaten out of Bob's hand, fresh baked turkey and nibbles of dry food.

Now I have to hurry to bed because they will have me up and running by 5 AM. - Judy

"Sweet Tater Crazy ", Thursday - November 13, 2008 8:30 PM
About 4 PM yesterday I was just plain "tuckered out", meaning I had worked too much. My shin was calling me all sorts of foul names cause it was swollen and hurt. I went to bed but for the life of me couldn't drop off to sleep cause the leg was uncomfortable ... there I was at 2 AM wide awake and trying to make sense out of the book I was reading. Long about 5 AM I dropped off to sleep and Ruckus and I slept until 10:30 or so. Ruckus never sleeps that long at one time, he usually wakes up to be fed. I suppose I slept right through his yelling he wanted a bottle. Speaking of which, I made a big deal out of throwing his bottle away so he would know it was gone ... have I lost my mind or what!!!

I cooked tacos for the crew then started in on the Sweet Taters. I made 2 pies, 1 large Tater Cake, cooked and mashed others to add to the critter food, plus baked some for critter treats. Melanie didn't like Sweet Taters at first but seein' as how the English Bulldogs love them, she decided she was going to like them also. Silly dogs!! Speaking of her, the crew didn't know what to think when she pushed a worker aside and started digging in the hole he had started. Don't ask me what she was doing cause I don't know, but we all got a big laugh out of it. Maybe she was trying to teach him to dig faster.

Right in the middle of all of this, the mechanic brought his tow truck out to get Bob's little truck, it's leaking clutch fluid to the point that he was afraid to try to drive it on the curvy backroads to the mechanic's shop. I didn't know Troy made house calls but he said for a few customers he was glad to ... I think he likes my Bulldogs. - Judy

"17 Hour Workday!! ", Wednesday - November 12, 2008 2:30 PM
Yesterday we were up and working by 6 AM getting the English Bulldogs out to potty and back inside before the construction crew got here. We took 30 minutes for lunch, homemade pasta, then went back to work. The crew left at 3:30 PM, we sat down for a 30 minute rest, got dressed and hit the road. I determined that Ruckus needed Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy food right away and while we were out we brought dog food for all the critters, plus groceries. We got back home around 8 PM, completed the night chores then fell into bed at 11:30 or so. We were up this morning by 6 AM and I swear I'm so tired my eyes are crossing. For lunch I fixed homemade chili. Bob says he thinks they might work for free if I keep feeding them. They rave to him about my cooking and he's certain one is in trouble with his wife for taking about how well they are fed at lunch. lol lol

What a relief that the dryer repairman came Monday, it's been raining the past two days and I would not have had a way to dry the dog and puppy beds. The poor man, Jazzman was doing a low growl all the time he was here. I told him to ignore Jazz he was only acting up because Li'l Cookie was in heat, he gets possessive of his women, although I keep explaining to him Li'l is his daughter so that's a no go. Actually it's just hormones acting up, dogs can't reason things out, but we don't tell them that.

My leg got testy with me several times and was a real pain by the time the day was finished. I told Bob I was going to see if the "junk store" had soccer shin guards, children's size because my arms and legs and extremely small compared to my torso. I wear a size 5 1/2 - 6 shoe and a size 4 wedding ring. Isn't taht pitiful. I'm sure the people who saw me were shaking their heads ... limping, skinny legged, old woman with a weird hat, but wearing short sleeves although it was cold outside. I swear I think my hats encourage people to smile and be talkative ... think about getting yourself one!!! - Judy

My hat didn't show up in the picture, darn it!!!

"Fractured Shin", Monday - November 10, 2008 8:30 AM
I just realized that I had not told you all that running around in circles resulted in me getting my shin fractured ... no it has not be verified by a doctor but I know a broken bone when I get one. lol lol

Poor Bob had so much on his plate that he didn't need to be arguing with me so I didn't tell him, therefore I couldn't put it in an entry. Last Monday is when it happened and I was hopeful that it wasn't broken, just hurting like the devil but when it swelled up from the knee down to my toes and the foot was bruised, I suppose from pooling of blood, that told me something for sure ... get out of denial and be kind to that leg!!

The hard part was not letting Bob know what had happened. Because it was so crazy here I kept the news from him until Thursday when I took to the bed around 3 PM. He wanted to take me to the ER and I told him I wasn't even going to the doctor. The last time I went for a rib they told me there was nothing they could do so they didn't even x-ray, just gave me pain pills which I can't take. When I was in the car wreck and broke my foot in 3 places, they just kept x-raying it, putting it in casts to protect it and told me I would never walk again without a limp, I could have done without that bit of news. So I wasn't going to waste money this time to be told what I already know about my leg ... it hurts, is swollen, swells more the longer I'm on it and has 2 lumps on the bone which will bring tears if touched.

I told Bob it would probably end up costing $500 or more for x-rays and if it is fractured getting a walking cast. I said, "I'll see if they have a pair of crutches and a walking cast at the junk store". I thought I was adding a bit of humor to our conversation but his face turned real red. Tongue in cheek I say, I suppose he was upset with me lol lol

Poor Bob didn't get any sleep between worrying about me and thinking I was crazy not to go to the doctor, getting up with Ruckus and chasing the "strays that came to stay" in the middle of the night because they were trying to eat the rabbit .. all the other critters were barking. Now for the how it happened, Li'l Cookie bounced off me and I bounced off a stump. Bob was taking her back in the house from her potty break and when she saw me she ran full force toward me, slipped in the mud I had created washing down flower pots and then ricocheted off my leg. I hit the stump in the same place and it was all over but the pain. Fortunately, Bob had continued into the house with Cherry Cookie so he didn't see what happened. I have good pain management skills so I'm able to drive the pain to the back of my mind as I go about doing my chores but when I've done too much, it lets me know!!!

Don't go feeling sorry for me, just enjoy the part about the "junk store" since Bob didn't. I hate to waste a good funny line. -Judy

"Ruckus and His Chunky Mama", Sunday - November 09, 2008 11:30 AM
Both Ruckus and his "Mama" have been eating everything in sight. He cried for mackerel and puppy chow. He smelled it while I was feeding the other English Bulldogs last night and you know I gave him small bowl to taste. He loved it! This morning he was asleep when I dished out cottage cheese for my breakfast, I put a tad on my finger and put it in his mouth, wide awake he came in a second wanting more of whatever that was. When Bob downloaded these pictures, my first thought was I looked just like an English Bulldog Mama, full of face, wrinkled and acting silly. - Judy

Outhouses and Butterflies, Saturday - November 08, 2008 5:00 PM
What is it??? I said, Bob turn the van around I want a picture of that deer blind. I gave directions and when we go up to it, he said I think someone finally decided to add ventilation to an outhouse. lol lol Have you ever used an outhouse? I did when I was a little girl out at my grandparents farm and let me tell you, this would definitely have been an improvement. I told him it had to be a deer blind because outhouses always had a quarter moon sign on the door. lol lol - Judy

Friday - November 07, 2008 11:00 AM
Thank The Good Lord it's Friday and we've made it through the week. Now we should have a few days without the construction crew to catch our breath. I'm so very glad the election is over, no more political commentary, ads or telephone calls. I surely wish I could wave a magic wand and make all the politicians act like grown-ups instead of spoiled children, blocking bills that are good for the citizens of the USA just to show how powerful they are and just because they can. We need to get this country back on course with the economy growing so people will have money in their pockets, smiles on their faces and be feeling good!!! I say bring those jobs back home and buy American made products!! Whoa ... don't get me started. lol lol - Judy

Thursday - November 06, 2008 7:30 PM
Do we have any, do you know where such and such is, we need x, y and z for the building project ..... that's been my day how about yours?

Melanie spoiled Daddy's Girl that she is came running down the porch in an area where I had 60 zillion pots. She was trying to catch up with her Daddy, tail wagging and decapitating plants as she went. I yelled at her and she plowed through them as she jumped off the porch, taking with her a beautiful hanging pot that I had down on the porch floor in a tub to soak up lots of water. I was so tired I lost my temper and yelled, she went to her den and hung her head low.

Rosie and Sammie kept drinking the water in which I had Angel's Trumpets rooting. The plant is poisonous so I would think the water would hold a certain amount of poison. Their water pan was full so I don't know why they were so intrigued with the rooting pan. Bob suggested that since Angel's Trumpet tea, smoking dried leaves or some such fixin's was suppose to either get a person high ... or kill them, that just maybe the girls were "feeling good". lol lol

If you can't get your Holiday Cactus to bloom, leave them outside in the cool weather bringing them inside only to prevent freezing. They will bloom like crazy for you. Pepper plants are perennial, therefore if you have a pot of peppers and have room, winter them over for early pepper production next summer. They will loose their leaves so only give them enough water to stay alive, once a month or so ... do NOT soak the pots because they most likely won't dry out therefore the plants will rot.

Feeling good, feeling strong, come on Mississippi, pass it on!! (theme song for Talk Radio MS medical program.)- Judy

Wednesday - November 05, 2008 12:30 PM
At times like this, I'm tempted to move back to the city ... a horse in the driveway coming at me, then a herd being rounded up by the "strays" caused a nervous system overload. I didn't know which was going to get hurt first, the horses, our "strays that came to stay" which were chasing them or ME!!! Three 15 pound dogs chasing 12 or so horses. I don't know how much horses weigh but those suckers are BIG!!!

More later I'm cooking , Pork BBQ sandwiches, for the construction crew ... we're too far away from any place for them to go out to eat. I'll explain the construction crew later as well as the white rabbit who escaped and the "strays" attacking the cages trying to kill the others. Might have known since Boomer and Dumpy go hunting for wild rabbit for breakfast. All this time I'm on the phone with the service company who canceled my service appointment because their records show the parts are on back-order although I called them Monday to let them know the parts had arrived. Seems to me once they put your record on back order the record is locked until they receive shipping information from a source other than the one which shipped the parts to me. The woman on the telephone said it sounds exciting at your house to which I replied .... "It's too crazy for me". - Judy

PS Before all this started but while I was on hold, I thought I would put the time to good use by bringing a flower pot from the goldfish pool to the back porch. There was a pile of poop in it, yuck. The "poop" jumped to the ground and like to have scared me to death. A shriveled up looking half-grown toad or frog, I can't tell the difference. Lesson learned ... dogs don't poop in flower pots, that is unless their name is Peanut Butter Cookie. lol lol

Sunday - November 02, 2008 9:30 AM
Sorry I haven't kept you updated .... it's because I've been running around in circles taking care of the critters while trying to figure out what to do about a bucket of full of appliance and vehicle problems, plus this, that or the other. I told Bob we can't even think much less make good decisions bouncing around like we've been doing lately. lol lol

I've stopped even trying to read or respond to emails, the software is messed up to the point of really frustrating me plus scam and spam emails are enough to overload anyone. If you need to communicate with me call 731-376-0635, but please do not call asking when I'll have puppies available etc. I'll post that type of information on the website when it is appropriate.

I'm off to continue being a whirling dervish. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
