English Bulldog Puppy Pictures I had the most wonderful Birthday, yesterday!!! Bob didn't make me a Birthday cake because I don't like cakes, but he did cook me a pumpkin pie which is my favorite. I got up being silly and dancing with the dogs, then we took a wonderful video of Li'l Cookie and posted it on YouTube. I'm so proud of myself, I'm getting over being afraid of the birds, I'm hand feeding them (cockatiels and a Sun Conour) apple bits, peanuts and things. They love it. Jimmy Joe, cockatiel, wolf whistles at me and if I call him Bobby Joe he will correct me by saying his name. Blaze the Sun Conure does this weird dance for me but won't for Bob. They really showed out for me yesterday morning, like they knew it was a special day. lol I don't think I told you all at the time but the Ditch Puppies dug up one of my new Iris beds and played keep-away with the plants, then pulled up all the name markers from another bed, so how crazy was I yesterday to join a group of people buying Lily bulbs, quality bulbs at reasonable but not cheap prices. I decided I could plant them in pots and put them up high somewhere so the critters couldn't get to them. lol lol Bob and I started out around 10 AM roaming the back roads and stopping at places of interest. We made our way down to Tupelo, Mississippi where we ate a very late lunch. Then we found a wonderful market with gourmet products so we stocked up. We visited with friends and had interesting things to happen all day. Life can't get any better. I did take the camera with me, but didn't take the first picture ... too busy. Thanks to everyone who sent Birthday Wishes!! - Judy The photography isn't too good but I think it's funny!!! Yes I woke up being a silly 61 year old this morning, but so proud that I haven't lost the part of me that wants to have fun. I hope I never develop a sour attitude like so many people do as they get older. Negative things happen to all of us, but those who enjoy life put those things behind us and move forward, it's never easy but it is necessary. Bob bought me a new camera for my birthday, super deal at the Walmart Day After Thanksgiving sale, and it arrived yesterday. It is lighter than the one we use for taking pictures of the puppies so it should work out better for me, because I have such small hands. After the morning chores are complete, we're going for a walk in the woods with the "strays that came to stay" and the Ditch Puppies (found in a ditch where they had been abandoned), hopefully I will be able to take some good pictures. Oops, just remembered, I found a beautiful mushroom one day this week while taking Li'l Cookie out, but she managed to step on it in her hast to stay between my feet when we were walking, maybe I'll reconsider taking the critters with us initially. If I could have anything I wanted for breakfast this morning, I think it would be a freshly baked bagel, with cream cheese, smoked white fish, chopped onion and capers. I know for a Southern gal, that surely is an odd desire this early in the morning, so we'll blame it on Bob he introduced me to bagels. For lunch I would like a New Orleans Muffuletta sandwich with olive salad. It is one of the great sandwiches of the world and so big I could eat on it for several days ... wrong Bob would finish it off for me. (lol lol) For dinner, I would just have to pass, I would have eaten too much for one day!! Have a wonderful day!! - Judy Wednesday - November 28, 2007 7:40 AM I hope having a Si-Fi dream that woke me up this morning doesn't start a trend. Seems a alligator that had killed two small children, was on a blood thirst run down the Mississippi River and so far had alluded a massive gator hunt. Just so happened it crossed my path and I had it caught up in a canvas but the men who were around were afraid to kill it with the big knife they had gotten out of my car. It got loose by becoming a katydid, which got scooped up by a hummingbird which got tangled up in my hair. I realized if I could get to the cliff and get the hummingbird out of my hair as it flew off there was a good chance that the alligator's katydid time would be up and that it would fall into the river below and be killed .... that kind of dream would wake anyone up. (lol lol) I think I'm getting a headache. lol I pulled myself out of bed went downstairs for a cup of coffee, to be greeted by a "wild and crazy" Li'l Cookie, who grabbed my garden shoe before I could get my foot in it and hopped into her pool. I retrieved it but got 5 small stuffed toys out of a storage container and tossed them on the floor. She snatched up one ran under a small kitchen step stool and looked like a turtle running around the floor as she tried to get out from under the stool without letting go of the toy. I got Bob to get the camera and turn to video mode but she was too fast this morning, or maybe it was we were too slow. lol Speaking of Li'l Cookie we were outside late afternoon on potty break when someone shot what sounded like a cannon, she had finally gotten out from under my feet to smell around for a place "to go" but when that boom sounded she came running as fast as her little legs could go. I hope she doesn't think that sound was because she was out from under my feet. It's 30.6 °F, Clear, Humidity: 94% Wind: Calm but with a heavy frost. It's too cold to have the critters out for long so they have just been out and back in. Now it's time to fix breakfast. I hope this journal entry started your day off with a smile. - Judy Tuesday - November 27, 2007 7:40 PM Oh gosh, I tried to kill Li'l Cookie and myself. I made a pimento and cheese sandwich. She was begging for a bite and doing just the opposite of what I tell others to do, I gave her a bite. I decided it was too strong and I don't much care for cheese anyway so only ate half of it, for this I am Thankful. A couple of hours later I am commode hugging then the other classic signs of food poisoning, plus fever. The fever reached 103.5 and that is when I told Bob I had an urge to do some eBay shopping so he best bring out the alcohol for me to bath in to reduce the fever. Long story short alcohol rub down, cool shower, cold packs under the arms, on the head and on the neck, did but a little good but finally I was able to keep down 2 aspirin which worked very well. A couple of hours later Bob came upstairs and asked if I gave Li'l Cookie a bite of my sandwich, I confessed. She had a terrible upset stomach, he gave her pumpkin and after a couple of hours she was fine. Thank You Beth!!! I had forgotten how long the pimento and cheese had been in the frig and it was homemade so there was no expiration date. Moral to this story is my cooking is trying to kill me ... well that is if you count mixing up pimento and cheese as cooking. lol Another Lucy Day, but I managed to get through it. Have a good night you all. - Judy (I really do say "you all", not ya'll. lol) Monday - November 26, 2007 6:00 PM Bob has been working hard but I've been a lady of leisure ... he reminded me that I have been sick the last few years on my Birthday and he wants to make sure I'm healthy this year. Now isn't that sweet. He said I never mind, er-a respect his requests, in regard to my activities and he would appreciated it if I would make an exception this week. His Birthday present to me is him doing all the chores through Friday. Now how could I possibly say "no". Most of the day, I've been cuddled up with a throw, knitted by a friend, in a overstuffed chair reading a book. In-between chores he touched base with me and brought me snacks. He better not treat me too good or I might start liking it. lol lol - Judy Sunday - November 25, 2007 12:45 PM Second a mental attitude report ..... bright and full of cheer. We're taking it easy today and for an excuse are saying this is the last day of the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend, or maybe it's the first day of a week long Birthday celebration for me. I'll be 61 on the 29th. lol I've never been adversely affected mentally by my birthday and this one is no exception. We've been listening to Best Of Eddie Raven CD that Bob bought me in April 2006 when we were being rained upon by negative happenings (friend and father dying among other things) ... it is such feel good music which makes both us and the Bullies want to dance around the kitchen. Eve has been talking to us, a growly murmur. We speculate she either wants the smoked turkey or wants to go back to the vet's office today, although if a male dog gets within 6 feet of her she lets out with a serious growl. We're being silly this afternoon. It must be the new cake I cooked. Bob likes Carrot Cake and since cake mixes were on sale for $.68 I got a few. Now for the problem, I don't like frosting, yuck too sweet, nor do I like the dull cake under the frosting. There is a recipe for the Ultimate Carrot Cake on the box so I thought why not kinda go by that to make a cake. I forgot what all it called for but I added 5 medium peeled and chopped apples, some chopped walnuts, 8 oz undrained pineapple and 1/2 cup or so of raisins. I tasted it then decided to toss in a 1/4 cup or so of white sugar and the same amount of brown sugar. I cooked it in Pyrex pans and instead of greasing them, I melted a tablespoon or so of butter in the bottom of the pans before I poured in the batter. It was such a good cake it didn't need frosting, which I would have been raking off anyway. So in the end Bob did not get a carrot cake. I'll try to do better next time. lol lol I better get some things accomplished before the next storm hits, so stay well and be happy. - Judy
Saturday - November 24, 2007 2:45 PM Click on the bold print Saturday - November 24, 2007 10:45 AM It was really cold last night so all the critters were "put up". The Ditch Puppies acted like silly puppies this morning when we let them out ... run, hop, jump, chase, lay in ambush until one of the others gets close, then pounce, nip & run away fast as you can, tuck in your tail so the other pups can't get a hold on it. Happy, Happy, Happy!! I've decided this house is too crowded with all these plants and I must do something with them before they "get to me". lol I'm this way every winter when we bring them in from the porch. I should have trimmed them back and sent the cuttings out to friends, before it got so cold. Now I'll have to wait for warmer temperatures before I can mail anything. We went to the vet's this morning to have Eve bred to Jazzman via AI (artificial insemination). DHL delivery service lost the blood drawn for a progesterone test on Tuesday so we had no choice but to bred her every other day until she was no longer in heat. Since the vet isn't open on Sunday, we bred her yesterday and today. If all goes well, she should have puppies the last week of January and they will be ready for their new homes approximately the middle of March. I started this entry 45 minutes ago but have been constantly interrupted by "our gang" and the telephone, so I'm going to stop now ..... just heard him again, Nappy the young Cockateil has learned how to whistle like Bob does to call the dogs, can you imagine the commotion that caused the first couple of times. lol lol Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. - Judy Friday - November 23, 2007 5:00 It's suppose to go down to 26F tonight and it's only about 40 something now. I've not done much at all, just feeling sluggish probably because we've been eating too much. lol The smoked turkey we got from the Animal Rescue fund raiser is wonderful!!! I hope they make this an annual event. I just had a thought, the turkeys would make great Christmas presents, I wonder if they'll be doing this again around Christmas. The dishwasher is on the blink, it's like the motor is stuck in the drain mode. I priced parts but in the end we decided to buy a new one. Bob bought it from Sears during their After Thanksgiving 20% Off Sale and didn't even have to leave the house, ordered it online this morning. I made Hoe Cakes, fritters or whatever a person wants to call them, it's fried cornbread. I added onion and seasoning to the cornbread batter and cooked 4 for me, then I added chopped jalapeno peppers plus hot sauce to the batter and cooked the remainder for Bob, he loves them. The frozen rolls I had bought for dinner, didn't rise in time to be eaten yesterday, and then rose too much overnight but I cooked them up anyway. They were hard weird things. When Melanie went out with Bob earlier this afternoon I tossed her one to use as a ball. She ate it which was a surprise. So you know I offered the remainder to the Bullies and they were delighted to get them. Maybe they thought they were bones, since they were so hard. lol lol I hope you had a good day and will have an enjoyable weekend. - Judy Thursday - November 22, 2007 Noon Happy Thanksgiving Day!!!Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2007 9:48 AM Just dropping in to wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving. The Whole Gang including the big tall two legged one. Hey it is (or at least was) raining in Atlanta this morning. It has been a long time and I'm glad to see it. Not so much for the environment but I want to stick it to the protesters that so strongly objected to the Governor's Pray For Rain service that was held on the capitol steps. It was so beautiful and over to the side there was this little knot of sourpuss pickles that even had signs! That proves The Lord has a sense of humor! Those poor nuts - they are still writing letters to the newspaper about it and nobody cares. I can just imagine what your house smells like today with all the goodies. I bet all noses are pointed towards you. And if you drop a morsel you do NOT have to worry about bending over to pick it up! That's something to be thankful for, a self-cleaning kitchen floor. Literally for the first time in memory I am not cooking. I live alone with my cat Jackson but I always cook full throttle on the holidays. Well this year I had the opportunity to haul home a ton of food leftover from a work party yesterday. Including a tray of cake and pie and rolls. Oh gosh I'm limp. I was still going to cook something but upon arriving home to The Ponderosa I found a note on the door inviting me to Thanksgiving dinner at a neighbor's at 7:00 p.m. LAST NIGHT. I went and boy it was wonderful and the hostess sent a huge plate home with me. She is Puerto Rican and the turkey and pumpkin pie and can of cranberry sauce was normal but the rest had a PR fling to it. The stuffing was chocked full of almonds and raisins - way more raisins than you'd think. Wonderful! And instead of potatoes or yams she had a pot of traditional Puerto Rican red beans and rice. Oh glory it was so good. I did not catch the process but something like cook the pig feet or hocks all day, a can of tomato paste, the beans...she even had big hunks of quartered white potato in there. The juice or sauce was so rosy and easily took the place of gravy. She had a big pot of fluffy white rice. She said in Puerto Rico rice is "the plate" and everything is served on top. I wish you could have been there. She has a little elderly dog named Nicolas that is so sweet and completely calm around all people. He begged for food as we ate in the living room but never made a noise. She never feeds him people food but Nicolas is always interested. Can you believe I also have an invite to go to this other neighbor's today for dinner. He is a great cook, too. I am haunted by my three Thanksgiving meals because this year I am very low on money due to cut back hours. What gets me is I was sad that I could not have much. I really was considering just forgoing it altogether. But now my frig is bulging with tons of wonderful Thanksgiving food and I still have a dinner to go to. Do you think this is God showing me not to worry and he will provide? I keep getting that feeling. I assure you all this just came out of the clear blue sky as I was not expecting anything at all. Well anyhoo. If you are still reading this long ordeal....You and The Gang are definitely one of my thankful blessings this year. Don't ever think what you do and say does not matter because it does. We all should remember that. Thank you very much for everything. - Dorothy To Dorothy, we are Blessed to have friends like you. - Judy, Bob and "our gang". Wednesday - November 21, 2007 10:30 AM I wonder how many people are in their kitchens right now cooking for tomorrow's festivities. I also wonder how many are planning on taking advantage of the early riser sales the day after Thanksgiving. I'm not doing either and I feel so smug about it. I know, "Bad Judy". A few years ago I decided to seriously eliminate irritations in my life and those two were easy targets. It's raining here and is the perfect day to stay in bed reading and snuggling up with your favorite human, animal or stuffed toy. Oh that reminds me, they had giant stuffed dogs at Walmart yesterday and I told Bob Li'l Cookie wanted one and she was going to name it Big Cookie. He never even slow his pace. lol lol I think the dishwasher has gone out because the dishes were still dirty when I open it to put them up I turned in on again and I don't think the water is spraying up on the dishes. I've cut it off and am about to do some research on the internet to see if am correct and if it's an easy part replacement or if we just need to buy a new one. If the later I might be at the Sears sale which starts at 5 AM Friday after all. I'm working hard this morning. I came upstairs to get the dirty clothes to wash, saw the computer and thought I should at least say Good Morning to all of you. Have a wonderful day!! - Judy Tuesday - November 20, 2007 7:00 PM This was one busy day but also a fun one. First it was off to the vets to have blood drawn for a progesterone test and an AI (artificial insemination). We brought the Bullies back home then went grocery shopping for the Thanksgiving Meal. Instead of making pies, there was a 2 for the price of one at Kroger so, we bought 4, put all but one in the freezer for later use. We got giant sweet potatoes 3 lbs for $1. Kroger had turkeys on sale for $.59 per pound, we had seen the Memphis Kroger ad which said $.39 a pound and that was one of the reasons we ran into to town, "our gang" loves turkey. Our Kroger manager said the $.39 was only for Memphis Area stores so we went ahead and got two for the critters, but they had run out of the $.59 per pound turkeys so they let us have the Butterball turkeys for that price. Actually it was a better deal than if the others had been for $.39. To the critters, turkey is turkey so I'll have to remind them that they are eating quality turkeys this year. Tomorrow Bob is picking up a smoked turkey we ordered as part of the Animal Rescue Fund Raiser, that one is for the humans. lol lol I hope all that made sense. If you have one of my Bullies and have an emergency, please do not hesitate to call me and if there is no answer leave a message, we're in and out of the house, otherwise I'm not going to be reading emails etc. We're going to celebrate living in the USA and being thankful for what we have, those we love and those who love us. - Judy Monday - November 19, 2007 6:00 PM We never get a free day because we have English Bulldogs and the other critters but we didn't do much other than caring for them today. I'm getting emails from people wanting to send deposits for the puppies we are expecting to be born in December. I won't be taking deposits until a few days after the pups are actually born. More tomorrow I'm lazy tonight. - Judy Sunday - November 18, 2007 6:00 PM ![]() Click To View 29 New Pictures Sunday - November 18, 2007 4:00 PM Oh Me!! I had posted so many pictues on my journal that it was a long load, so I split it into Nov 1-15 and Nov. 16-30. I'm doing a little overlap for a few days to make it easier for new visitors. Delta Dawn is expected to have a litter of puppies December 11-12, Jazzman is the sire. They will be ready for their new homes the middle of February. Just as with humans anything can happen between now and then so we're holding our breath, hopeful that all will go well. - Judy Sunday - November 18, 2007 3:30 PM We've been on the go all weekend and have exhausted ourselves. This morning we decided to take pictures on the way to Bolivar, TN where we were going to eat breakfast then pick up the BBQ Boston Butt we ordered as part of the fund raiser for the animal rescue group. I also took pictures there and took pictures on the way home. I'm so glad Bob bought a disc for the digital camera which will hold 831 pictures, I took 91 this morning!!! I decided I had to go get me some new glasses I was just pointing and clicking I couldn't see what was shown in the screen. GRACIOUS!! - Judy Friends of Hardeman County Animal Control
This was a rest day for me ....lol lol We did the morning chores, then went to Corinth, MS to have the oil changed in the van and get me a new food processor. I was about ready to throw the one I have out the window or maybe through it. I had a Black & Decker for years which was great but the blade got dull and we didn't have any luck at sharpening it, then we picked up one on sale at Wal-Mart which hurt my poor old hands trying to get the top off and then bowl off the machine to empty it. Part of the problem is that I have small hands but even Bob was having a problem with it. After my experience with the Walmart special, I tried getting the top and bowl off of all of them at K-Mart, Walmart and Lowe's. The Kitchen Aid won hands down as far as ease of detaching the top and bowl, so that is what we got. While Bob got the oil changed in the van I was grocery shopping, just had a few items on the list but 30 minutes later I had a full basket and still no Bob. I had just remembered that I didn't get slaw mix and was heading back that way when he walked into the store, perfect timing actually. By this time I was really tired so we didn't stop to take pictures but once, of the clouds. Bob was surprised when he said where to now and I said, I'm tired let's go home.
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. - Judy Friday - November 16, 2007 3:00 PM ![]() Click To View> Friday - November 16, 2007 1:30 PM
