Nosey person that I am, I sneaked a look at all John's meds and did a Google search. I
could not believe that the doctor prescribed "Seroquel" for John. He's about 60-65 years old,
nice, nice person who would do anything in the world for you. Seroquel is for Bipolar or Schizophrenia
Disorders and there are some horrible warnings associated with this medicine!!!!! Jump Back Jack, never would that description fit him, not in a 100 years.
As calmly as I could I asked why he was given this medicine to be told, he was restless at
night, talked in his sleep etc. Well write him a prescription for a new mattress, tell him to move
to the extra bedroom so he wouldn't disturb his wife at night but for God's Sake
don't put him on heavy drugs.
I'm afraid to tell anyone what my research discovered. I'm afraid his younger brothers will take
matters into their own hands because they are so upset about this situation.

I don't have to scratch my head trying to figure out who they are. "You ain't from

"Smith" mail box, I bought at a yard sale for $5.

Medical Alert!!
Just wanted you all to know I'm out of pocket, taking care of a friend who's husband tried
to kill her a few nights ago. Don't worry about us, Melanie is being the Guardian Angel. She
won't bite a biscuit but she certainly looks like she would. (lol lol)
It's just a loving situation of 30 years
"gone bad" to everyone's way of thinking because the husband was taking 6 different
prescription medications which were having an adverse affect on him, but I'm not taking any
chances, that's why Melanie is here. They had been trying
to get the doctor to listen to their concerns for two years or more (that his blood pressure medicine
was causing him problems sleeping) but ... you know how
that goes. Now that John almost killed his wife everyone is paying attention. He is
presently taking a single older medication for his high blood pressure, totally different from
what he was taking prior and so far it is controlling it better without side
affects.
What I can't figure is the justification for so many prescriptions written by the one doctor, filled
by a single pharmacy and paid for by their insurance company without someone questioning what in the
world was going on with him. No wonder health insurance is so high and Medicare is running in the red.
He told me 2 or 3 months ago he tried to get a renewal on his monthly prescriptions while he was "in town" what with
gas being so high but the insurance company wouldn't allow it because he had 8 pills left to take for
the month. I think priorities are confused, don't you.
Be careful what you take and if more than one prescription for a condition, pointedly ask your pharmacist
if the additional drugs are necessary. Remember everyone is making money on you but you ... it could be detrimental to
your health and well being. If in doubt get a second opinion from another doctor.- Judy

In Bloom ...

This is a little rose I actually rooted and it survived. I'm so proud of it. I rooted many
but most all of them died during the winter. I have to admit I was warned that rooting was
easy compared to getting them past the first winter. I think I have that figured out now, so
I might try rooting more.

Life's confirmation ...
Unique, probably, though I really don't know, but I do wonder how many people possess the same.
My physical being has a confirmation system attached to it, one that I identified with
early on. If I'm happy, my hair is curly and my eyes are green. If I'm stressed, my hair
is kinky and the eyes have a brown cast. If my heart is broken or I'm seriously sick, then
my hair is straight and the eyes are an aqua blue.
Today, I'm a green-eyed woman
with curly hair ... such curly hair would make my heart sing, even if it were sad. -

It stormed all night, half this morning and there is more a'coming ...
We're going to have to change Li'l Cookie's name to Fat Cookie!!. I've never had an English
Bulldog pup at 8 months to be so chunky!! About the time I think I know everything, along comes
something I didn't know. (Tongue in cheek) lol lol
My opinion - spiral ham with brown sugar topping, equal "yuck", but by now you know I don't like
sweet. - Judy

Good Morning, I don't know if I am boring you, or if you think my nighttime cooking and
other activities are of interest.
I have Baklava in the oven!! This is the first time I've
attempted to fix it so we'll see how it comes out. In addition, I cooked Bob a Mincemeat pie
and an apple nut deep dish pie thingee, called thingee because I made it up as I went along ...
leftover fillo dough put into a deep dish, can of apple pie filling with a thick layer of nut mixture, then
covered with the Fillo dough, kind of a pouch, so I guess I could call it Apple Nut Fillo
pouch. lol lol I stewed a chicken to fix Critter chicken and gravy to insure they all
eat their soaked food down to the very last drop because it will contain their wormer. Some of the critter will
eat anything but there are others who are a tad picky. I've also washed and dried clothes, soaked
critter food and have all ready to go for the day.
Around 4 AM I decided I needed something to eat so I opened a can of spinach and sprinkled
it with pepper sauce. For those of you who do not know what type of pepper sauce is most
often used with greens in the South, it's the vinegar-water mixture that is in the bottle
with those tiny green pepper fingerlings. I'm fairly certain it doesn't contain the high
sodium like the red pepper sauces do. Then about 4:30 Bob came downstairs and had a piece
of Mincemeat pie for breakfast. I told him something was wrong with our taste buds!!!
I believe I have discovered another blessing which is the result of high
fuel costs. Out here in the country we have been almost plagued by the noise of
helicopters and jets flying low over the property, well no more. I couldn't understand why
there were so many or why they flew so low. I had complained to government agencies to no
avail and been told the aircraft were probably from Fort Campbell 101st Airborne, local law
enforcement looking for pot fields and/or private jets .. whatever the noise pollution and
wasteful fuel practices .. they are no more.
I'm off and going this morning, it's just getting light enough outside for the critters to go out to potty.

Whimp that I am, I ran out of steam a few minutes ago, partly because it's hotter outside today
than it was yesterday. I'm going to have to adjust my "night time working hours" and not expend
so much energy dancing around the kitchen to the late night Rock 'N Roll oldies. lol - Judy

Oh Mercy it's becoming a habit!! I haven't gone back to bed instead I've been washing and
cooking. I put a spiral ham with brown sugar topping in the oven, started a big pot of
black bean soup, deboned the chicken and cut the breast into chunks to make salad. All
other parts, except bones, either went into the soup pot or the big pot of dry kibble I'm soaking for the
critter's breakfast. I figure if the "strays" kill and eat rabbits, they can surely eat
chicken bones, but they were not interested in coming out of their dens in the middle of
the night, that is until I tossed Boomer some in his den and the other two heard him
crunching, then out they came out like they had been shot from a cannon. lol lol (The strays
have been here 10 years and we've never had a problem with a bone. I know it happens but
life also happens.)
I've been practicing cooking Mexican Chimichangas (deep fried). I'm not very experienced with
deep frying because we as a rule do not eat fried food. Since Bob wasn't awake to eat them, I only
experimented with frying shells. Once I got the hang of it I realized deep frying a pork chop
is much more difficult and I make a GOOD chicken battered deep fried pork chop. Won't he be surprised
to have Chimichangas for BREAKFAST!! lol lol
I've got the coffee brewing and can't wait to wake Bob up!! Have a wonderful day! Oops I bet he's
going to want ham and biscuits for breakfast, well he can just have that for lunch, I'm wanting to
show off my ability to cook up those Chimichangas. lol lol - Judy

I'm posting this just in case it will do some good for other people. I woke up a few
minutes ago with a sinus headache, dried out mouth and throat due to sleeping with my
mouth open, unable to breath any other way. Half asleep, I recalled my Papa Gene giving me a
spoonful of peppermint tasting something. Too many years ago for medicines much more than
the basics so it must have been whiskey soaked in peppermint candy. I have a little bottle
of peppermint extract to use in cooking and whiskey so why not give it a try. Into a
vegetable serving spoon I put a tad of peppermint extract and one TEAspoon of whiskey, mixed it
together with my finger, held my breath and swallowed. Instant relief!!!! I do believe it will depend
upon the person, but it surely worked quickly for me and at least I knew what I was
taking, not like all the chemicals in the sinus medications on the market. - Judy
****** Update, be sure to add a sweetner ...sugar, corn syrup, just anything to keep the whiskey
from tasting so nasty.

Temperature is 79.6F - I'm tired now, but you would not believe what all I got done before I ran out of energy!!!
Bob is holding out for 2 more hours of "work time" then he'll come rest with me. Please
say a prayer that I can continue to be so very active and get so much
accomplished.
It never ceases to amaze me that we as humans don't think of the obvious ... there are
formed opinions that imprison our thinking, put us in a mode and hold us there. My
physical limitations, gimpy leg, prevent me from using the large old whirlpool on the back porch and Bob
will not use it without me ... so we decided to hack it up and take it to the dumpster ...
wrong it's perfect for bathing the "critters" ... no bending over in an angle which causes
immense pain. See what I mean!!! Critters all of you are about to get a bath.
Several years ago, I
volunteered to help a breeder through a pacemaker operation and restoring her kennel to pristine
order, in one day I steamed cleaned her kennel and bathed all 30 of her dogs ... I thought I was
going to die. I started at 5 AM and stopped at 7 PM, but I got it all done, while the other volunteers
mostly sat on their behinds and chatted. I did dog them into at least giving all the dogs their
annual booster shots, wormer and flea/tick treatment. It was the chatters who got all the credit.
lol lol Such is life.

I woke Bob up with a large cup of Jack Daniel's Coffee, sent to us by a friend. That's the brand name I don't
think it actually has Jack Daniel's in it but if so Bob may turn around and go back to
bed.
He wanted to know if I was aware that it was only 4:30 AM. I told him I thought we could
get an early start... This way we can take a long nap when it gets hot this afternoon.
I told him I had researched the problem with the van's rear a/c blower and in all probability
the connection has come lose from the main a/c's printed circuit board. I asked if he had ever soldered a
printed circuit board to which he replied many times. Yea!! We should be able to resolve that
problem ourselves. According the info on the internet, 2000 price for the repair was approximately
$500, no telling what it would be now. I then told him two made from scratch
Buttermilk Pound cakes and a meatloaf are in the oven, just about done, and I had cooked a
stewed chicken, plus I had dried a load of clothes, put them away and started cleaning out
the refrigerator. I warned him not to look at what I was throwing away, all his little bottles
of different hot sauces, fancy mustards and assorted condiments He squinted at me as
if I had lost my mind and asked how long I had been up. It wasn't the length of time
necessarily, I was just moving fast.
At 2 AM, I had tossed and turned for 90 minutes so I decided to cook while the temperature
was in the low 60's since the high today is to be 88F, no sense in heating up the house just
to have to turn on the a/c to cool it down. Tomorrow is suppose to be 90F with
night temps in the high 60's, Summer is coming on strong.
When I first went downstairs, all except for Jazzman pretended to be asleep. He did a low bark at
me as if to say, "I want out, I want food, I want you to pet me, etc." but Jeb warned him I hadn't been "right" since the "strays" ran that 3-400 pound pig up
on the back porch, so he better let me be. lol lol

Two items I need to post before I forget....
1) I'm putting everyone on notice, if you do the below when I'm around, into the water you
go!!!! How GROSS!!
More than you ever wanted to know about fishing with Catalpa Worms
"There are several ways to use this worm as bait. It can be cut in half, turned inside
out and threaded on the hook. Another way is to cut them in pieces just like an earthworm.
But the most common way seems to be cut (or bite-YUK!!!) (Note From Judy: spit, spit, spit!!) its head off, use the end of a
match and turn its body inside out. The common thread here is to release its aromatic
scent and green fluorescent juices."
The above from "Enter The Catalpa Worm Zone"
http://www.bigfishtackle.com/articles/fishing/freshwater/freshwater43.html
2) Don't worry if I skip days posting next week, we've got both work and play we need to do,
maybe even do a little fishing ... with artificial bait.

There are so many new inventions, hybrids this and hybrids that, which have to go through
initial testing and I'm sure not all the time is the general public made aware of this
testing if it in no way will impact the quality of their life.
Yesterday I believe I inadvertently became part of Wal-Mart's testing of a hybrid bidet
toilet. For the definition of just what the heck a bidet is,
please click here.
Several years ago Wal-Mart switched to electronic flush toilets which have many good
points but leaves one without the ability for a manual flush in order to cover-up bodily noises or
odors one does not want to share with others in the public facility. If you have ever been
in the restroom with several people who've been to an "all you can eat" restaurant in the
neighborhood, you know what I mean.
This new hybrid bidet toilet once identifying occupancy goes through a continual flush, it
does cover up body noise and flushes odors however it also results in the posterior of the occupant
constantly being showered with water.
My initial user comments are as follows:
1) The hybrid needs to connect to warm water because the 55-degree water results in the
contracting of the muscles a person is trying to relax so they can take care of their
business and get back to shopping.
2) A drying process is needed: Better quality toilet paper, hand drying towelettes or
blow dry system. I was lucky enough so that when I called out a lady handed me a couple of
towelettes over the stall door.
Please do not suggest I merely encountered a malfunctioning electronic flush toilet,
never would I believe such a thing .... also we had too much fun dreaming up this scenario.

Friday - May 23, 2008 12:30 AM
We've just sat down for a spell then, we've got to get up and work real hard to play catch-up.
We were out of here at 6:30 this morning, went to Abe's in Corinth, MS to eat breakfast then on to
Lowe's and Wal-Mart. I had this bright idea of how to cut down on the work of
maintaining the 2 acres around the house ... it might be bright or it might be stupid, but
we are going to do it. First order was to purchase a new type of mowing machine for the immediate
area, then use a
vegetation eliminator in granule form (always windy here so Roundup is almost impossible
to use) on the other areas. The granules are suppose to keep down vegetation for one year, then we are going
to plant clover everywhere. I like clover, it doesn't have to be mowed, if turned under it supplies
a great source of nitrogen (fertilizer) for the soil, plus the bees love the blooms. Sounds good, we'll see
how it works.
During the trip, we stopped several times to take pictures of wild flowers and some of a catalpa
tree, I hope they turn out well. Enjoy your weekend!!! - Judy
Thursday - May 22, 2008 10:30 PM
I forgot to tell you about the "big thing" running real fast on two feet. We had just
arrived back home and had stopped at the driveway entrance. It's about 1/4 of a
mile to the house so I couldn't see a lot of detail. It came out from my flower bed area,
ran across the drive and into the woods. I was telling Bob I would have thought it was a
wild turkey since we've seen several flocks at different times, but this "thing" was way
tall and heavy compared to those. We got settled down for the night and I Googled "wild
turkey" ... me oh my, some of them get to be 4 feet tall and 38 or so pounds. I hope it
wasn't eating dog food off the back porch!! (lol lol) It might have been what got hold of
Boomer, they are fiercly protective of their nesting area.
Thursday - May 22, 2008 9:50 PM
Our area is flush with blooms.
Honeysuckle, spirea, pink roses and white daisies are just some of the wild
flowers which profusely outline the country roads. Many giant Magnolia are loaded with
blooms but it's the beauty of the few catalpa (fishing worm trees)that are
truly amazing.
The catalpa is considered a "trash tree" by many because most of them attract a
caterpillar, catalpa sphinx moth larva. The moth lays eggs on the leaves in
early Spring, the larva completely defoliate the tree. What a sight, a naked
tree with caterpillars and hard seed pod shells 6-16 inches long littering the ground
beneath. The tree however quickly recovers or maybe even thrives because it was
stripped.
At 5:30 this morning as the fog was lifting off the low swampy areas, we were
the only ones traveling the back roads in our area. I so wished I had thought to
bring the camera but I had forgotten how wonderful the unkept roadside could
look this time of the year. I hope to get pictures before the mowing machines
start their work. Just had a thought, maybe the reason for so many wild flowers is the
mowing machines have been idle due to the high price of gas, what a wonderful silver
lining.
The early morning trip was multi-purposed: van air condition repair and
purchasing of supplies plus a stop for breakfast. We were successful in
achieving all and being in the parking lot waiting for the repair shop to open.
The a/c was low on freon so we just had it recharged for the time being. The
shop had around 20 vehicles waiting in their lot for servicing of different types and a
recharge was all they had time to do for us this morning. I asked when we could
bring it back for a tune-up etc and the reply was we're booked solid until week
from next Wednesday so call us then and we'll tell you when to bring it in, good
mechanics are hard to find and when you find one they are booked for days to
weeks in advance.
While shopping we came upon a shopping basket full of packages of rice 2 (2 lb)
packages on sale for $1, or $.25 per pound. We've all been reading about world
hunger therefore my heart sank seeing all that rice. I wanted so badly to
purchase the whole cart full and ship it off to a desperate family who can't get
rice, the mainstay of their diet. Another reason to Thank The Good Lord that we
are living in the USA.
My heart goes out to the innocent people in the war torn
backward nations of this world who will never climb out of the dungeon of proverty
until this lesson is learned "killing each other accomplishes nothing".
Please remember to say a prayer this weekend for all of our men and women in uniform. - Judy

Absolutely worth a repeat posting .....
This glimpse into life in Neshoba County, MS was written by my friend Deb and posted
with her permission on my August, 2006 Journal. - Judy
Then there is very local lingo. My Mom's family has their own language - I keep saying
that we need to write a dictionary for the family reunions for the "ferner's" that come.
"Leanin toward Grayson's" means something is cockeyed, leaning, listing or veering.
"Speaking of Dr. Irby" means they are going to change the subject.
There are many others.
Here in Neshoba County nobody buys anything they "trade" for it. Seriously, if one man
needs a car, tractor, truck, or lawn mower part; they search their shop or garage for
something a buddy needs so they can go trade him for what they need. And nobody here calls
anyone by their given name. They all have nicknames. I can't keep up. My husband calls everyone
"do-winker" because he stopped trying to remember names long ago. He truly believed that
his uncle's names were Son and Babe until I started addressing Christmas cards! The local
mechanic is called "Teacake" because his Momma use to make teacakes for all the kids. He
is at least 60 now.
I was born and raised in Mississippi but am a "ferner" in Neshoba
County. Have ya'll heard of the Neshoba County Fair where all the local folks move from
their comfortable homes and move into cabins on the fair grounds for a week. Its called a
large house party! I've visited friends there for several years now and it is SO
interesting ... but I still don't get it. Most of the cabins have no a/c and when it rains,
the whole place is a large mudpuddle. They sit on their front porches and watch the
harness races and horse races and go to the midway and ride. I was behind a lady at Wally
World that was buying $500 worth of groceries for the week to take to the fair. There is
one day dedicated to Politician's speeches and Thursdays are dedicated to the town of
Philadelphia and the whole town closes down (banks and all).
I've lived in 6 different states and wouldn't move again if you paid me. Think of it.
Most folks just read books
about places like this and we get to live here! - Deb

One more Jeb story...
This happened about 15 minutes ago: Jeb was out with me in the Lily area while I was watering.
Now, Jeb loves the spray of water from a hose. His great passion was created during his recovery
here at home from being paralyzed as the result of an accident as a puppy in his new home in NY.
When it was time to go in, I called Jeb to come, but went ahead to fix
up his den with fresh bedding, his supper, a treat, his much loved old dried out bone, etc. I turned when I heard Jeb come through the door
making quite a racket! He had drug the whole fifty foot hose across the back porch and was
trying to take it to his den!
What a dickens!
(Note of explanation: Out of convenience with so many critters, we don't have a screen door therefore
when the back door is open there is free access.)
Tuesday - May 20, 2008 5:40 PM
One more picture of Jeb, then we'll focus on one of the other critters....
I was sitting on the porch with Jeb in the early morning Spring sun drinking a cup of
coffee, expounding on the problems of the world and how they could be fixed. He's such
a good listener, or so I thought until I looked down at him and this is what I saw.
My talking and the warm sunlight lulled him off to sleep, notice his chin is resting on my
chair.
Tuesday - May 20, 2008 5:10 AM
A couple of years ago we had a house full of people over to eat an Italian supper prepared
by "Chef Bob". He has his own pasta maker and spent the entire day making all sorts of
special dishes. There are 350 different shapes of pasta, luckily he stayed with the
straight round rod and long straight flat shapes. He had to stop making sauces when the two microwaves and double
ovens were full of bakeware filled containers to keeping them warm. Plus there was
everything from Lasagna, Fettuccine Alfredo, Elfo's Shrimp Special, Pesto, Garlic bread,
etc. There was enough food to feed an army.
A couple that traveled all the way from Chicago, brought the wine, a couple of fine
bottles, some medium priced and even a box wine with a spigot for us Southern Country
girls who just can't see the sense in paying $70 for a bottle of wine that tastes like
"wood", when we're sure some oak bark left to soak in a bottle of Gallo would taste much
better if you really got to have the taste of wood.
After it was all over and the mess
was cleaned up, we were all too stuffed and tired to even talk. Needing counter space I
sat the box of wine on a short kitchen stool and forgot about it. After 3 days of company
with all these critters, I didn't even know my name.
About a week later, as I came in the back door I heard Jeb lapping up something down at
the end of the cabinet, and saw a clear liquid flowing out into a puddle on the floor … my first thought
was OMG his own urine!!!! I rush to him and then I almost passed out laughing. The
little stinker had figured out how to turn on the spigot and was enjoying the dickens out
of that white wine.
Another Jeb story worth a repost .. Sept, 2003.
Jeb and The Bullfrog A Bullfrog has taken up residency in or around the Goldfish Pond.
His 24x7 croaking sounds like a string being held, then plucked on a guitar, and it's loud!!
When I let Jeb out to potty this morning he heard this unusual sound and ran to investigate.
I swear he can move fast when he deems "it is necessary". LOL
After several minutes of
scampering around looking, the "strays that came to stay" took pity on him and showed him the frog by
running to it and barking. It was in the grass about 2 feet out from the pond, not moving
regardless of how much noise they made. I have never touched a big frog or even been that close to
one, but some frogs can
be poisonous to dogs, so I was determined to get it away from Jeb, the strays had more
sense than to actually touch it. I tried to hold Jeb back with one hand and pick up the
frog with the other, but I couldn't. Finally, I gave Jeb a little push and grabbed the
frog with both hand (nasty, nasty, ugly, ugly!!!) That dang frog was so big it was all I
could do to hold him with two hands (I have tiny hands - size 4 wedding ring), but I got
it to the pond and tossed it in .... you've already guess I'm sure, that my next struggle
was ... to keep Jeb from going into the pond after it!!!
We have baby goldfish!!! I couldn't imagine. Last Fall a water snake decided to have
lunch from the little goldfish pond a couple of times so there were only maybe 2-3 fish which
survived, therefore I didn't do any Fall cleaning or winter feeding. I'm out there 10 days
or so days ago dipping in the pool with my little rake, scooping up rotten plants and
throwing them into a new flower bed, they make good fertilizer ... when all of a sudden I do a OOPS,
tiny little goldfish. I stopped immediately. I was so surprised because from everything I had
read previously it's not a simple thing to hatch out goldfish babies. Now I know all you have to
do is cut off the fountain and neglect the pond from Fall to Spring. (This picture is
from this time last year) lol lol
Bob cooked a big bundle of asparagus yesterday and as an afterthought he used the water to soak kibble for the
critters last night. What a hit it was ... they loved it, they loved it and wanted more of it. lol lol

JEB -- What a Character!
I know I've said this before but if you want to laugh, watch your bully!
Last night Jeb spotted an old Fedora that I brought down from the store room.
He loves to dress up and I figured that he'd like to try it on.
Silly me. Jeb wanted to eat it!
I talked him into wearing it for a photo but bad boy Jeb just stuck out his tongue and gave us a raspberry!
We're going to call him "Mumbles" -- a character from Dick Tracy... Somehow it fits.

This is Jeb.....
Mom got down and wild last night ... she did a food fling. We had so much fun waiting
to see what was going to come flying out the back door next. We didn't have time to
fight over who got what, cause we had to stay out of the way of flying food and pans.
Man I wish I could snatch things from the air like Melanie can. She got the two boiled
eggs that came flying out the back door ... I can't tell you how much I love boiled eggs.
I was the first one to what turned out to be "a dried out biscuit" ... Dumpy and Boomer
laughed at me.
Grab it and run were the rules of the night. She slipped me a bowl that had part of
a leftover pork roast in it but Boomer got the
meatloaf. I tried to trade with him but he's grouchy of late.
We loved the food throwing frenzy but I bet Dad won't make any more remarks about
"the refrigerator needing cleaning out" any time soon ... Fluffy got his
turkey pot pie. Boy, wish I had!! - Jeb
PS I told Dad, Mom just hasn't been the same since Dumpy chased his 300 pound "on-the-hoof"
pork chop up on the porch.

So Much Fun!!!
Oldies But Goodies!!!
Put on your bobby socks baby!!
I've been having trouble with this crazy computer of mine, but I figure better late than never.
Which reminds me some things are "better never". - Judy

I woke up to the cold touch of plastic to the part of my face between my upper lip and
nose. Big Daddy had put a mirror there to see if he could detect breathing ... it
was suppose to fog up or some such nonsense if I was alive. Instead he got a string of
verbiage which assured him I was alive and really ticked. Lord Have Mercy, let the little girl
sleep. I had only slept 14 or so straight hours, what's wrong with him.(lol lol I guess he did
think I might be dead.) - Judy

Boomer is better today!! He's such a silly goose, I never know if he's really hurt or
not, but he came right out of his "den" wanting turkey treats earlier today and didn't
appear to be limping, but I didn't push it. I gave him his treat inside the crate to
minimize him having to move. After that, I discussed with Bob confining him to a crate
except to potty for a few days. I suspect he got to feeling better and then reinjuried
himself out hunting ... after all he's mostly beagle and hunting is what he was born to do.
Which reminds me of the song "Born To Be Wild", in Boomer's case this is certainly true.
If you don't retain anything else from all my musing, please remember "Animals, like people,
need an environment which allows them to be wonderful."
Did you notice the link above which is suppose to get you into the mood??? Oh my, we do
have fun!!! There is one very long story about doctors that I will have to go into at a
later date, but one valuable piece of information from my "use to be" doctor is range of
motion exercise, dancing to Rock 'N Roll will surely accomplish that task. lol lol

Lord Have Mercy, don't you know the thunder and lightening woke me up!!!
Wednesday - May 14, 2008 8:30 PM
It has rained off and on all day, but the good news is there have been no Tornado Watches issued.
We've all been lazy, even the critters. Boomer is acting cripple again, after having been normal for a few
days, so I gave him an aspirin. He and Dumpy were both muddy therefore I think they must have been out hunting and
in the process digging out tunnels. I gave them both a stern lecture telling them perhaps they were
too old to act like teenagers, digging out and chasing wild critters. I'm thinking an adult Boomer
appeared in 1998, so he's no spring chicken.

The below is the only Iris I've ever seen that I didn't like

Up at 7 AM, got the critters out to potty, fresh beds, old beds (sheets) in the washing machine
..... then the storm clouds turned loose on us. Grouchy Mama goes back to bed with Big Daddy, who
is rubbing my back, I'm purring like a kitten as I drop off to sleep.
Wednesday - May 14, 2008 2:30 AM
Blimmy if I don't have my days and nights mixed up. Storms, strange happenings and a jerky
Big Bob for several nights running, resulted in me being awake all night and sleeping late. I've set the alarm clock
for 7 AM and I'm going to haul myself out of the bed and into action ... Mercy am I going to be
grouchy. Look out critters you better "mind" your Mama. lol lol - Judy

Hello from soggy South Central USA ... best I can recall it rained all night long. Hearing the
rain, I kept getting up to check the radar just to satisfy my mind that there were no tornadoes
in the making.
When we were building this house I kept telling this crazy man I live with that Mother Nature always
prevailed, so don't go against her. He did to a degree so all the water from the upper level of the
"yard" area comes sweeping down toward the house and then engulf the house ditches to run off into the
pond further down the incline. The theory was good, 'cept I don't think the ditches were deep enough
at first.
Early on the ditches got stopped up with fall leaves ... water was about to
come into the house BUT he wasn't here, he was on his way home from another city where he was working on contract.
Jeepers ... scared to the point of shaking,
I poured me a shot of his sipping whiskey, got the hoe off the back porch and went out into the storm.
It didn't take long before the ditches were running clear but about that time, the electricity failed.
I pulled off my rain soaked clothes at the back door, came into the house, groped my way around
to find matches and a candle. Once I got it lit, I went
upstairs holding it to illuminate the way. I used it to light the candle in the jar, put it on a fire
retardant pad and fell into bed ... exhausted. An hour later he arrived, it was Friday night and he was home for the
weekend, I was fast asleep.
The memory isn't near as bad now as it was when I went through it all alone, except for the critters
and was "almost scared to death".

Iris - New Bloom, isn't she a perky thing!!!
Monday - May 12, 2008 6:00 PM
Greasy fried chicken sounded "oh so good" after months of not having any, but it only took
two bites and I was ready to give it to the "strays that came to stay", yuck too much
grease!!! Now I know why we don't buy it but every 6 months or so, I forget how awful it
is. lol lol What keeps me hooked is my fond memory from years ago of Jack Pritle's Fried
Chicken located in Memphis TN. I loved their fried livers
also and if I started feeling draggy I'd swing by, chomp down some livers and I
would be feeling fine in no time.
Oops .... critters are barking to come back in the house from potty break. - Judy

I'm sure you have read about the storms that passed through our area of the country the last
three days, so you knew we were watching the radar and making emergency plans should we have
horrific damage.
At one point last night there were 3 tornado vortexes set to collide on top of us. They
were about 30 minutes away, we stuffed our pockets with ID, cash and credit cards, loaded
the van and two out buildings with dog food, bottled water and quilts, thinking at least
one location might survive. Please note there were no human provisions, shows where our
priorities were doesn't it. Well, we figured if we were able, we could take care of
ourselves but if we weren't able and the dogs survived that surely someone would find at
least one of the caches and take care of the "critters".
Suddenly two of the vortexes fell off the radar and the remaining one turned East instead
of the Northeast direction it had been headed ... it was going toward our friends who live
in Ripley and Corinth, MS but we were on the very edge of the storm mass so there was
plenty of thunder and lightening, enough so that Sweetie Pie was begging to come to bed
with Mama and Jeb was saying if there is enough confusion maybe I can get to the "girls in
heat", Jeb has a one track mind just like his father, PepperJack. lol
The situation
was extremely emotional therefore we can't imagine what it was like for people who were actually
hit by the tornadoes.
Storm cells appeared out of nowhere several times and twice we had thunder rumbling but
nothing showed on radar. I was still awake at 4:30 AM watching for more storms, but Bob
had gotten a few hours of sleep. At 6:30 AM he got up to take care of "our gang" then came
back to bed for a morning nap.
The remainder of our day has been slow and easy .... playing with the "big babies" and
nibbling on fresh veggies, salads, boiled eggs and wild rice, while cooking pound cakes to
eat with fresh Strawberries, it's Strawberry Festival time in Tennessee. Jeb begged for a piece of celery and paraded around with it in his
mouth like it was a prize. lol lol
Life is what you make of it and if you are unhappy ... make positive changes, don't be a victim of other
people. Please remember "Every abuser needs a victim, don't let it be YOU." - Hugs, Judy
Saturday - May 10, 2008 6:30 PM
It's been so active here that my head is spinning. I cooked pasta for supper and we went out on
the porch to eat but had to come back inside. The temperature was just fine before I started
eating the hot food, then I warmed up too quickly. We had a loaf
of Wal-Mart's Sunflower bread, which I thought was weird but Bob liked. The Cockatiels and the Sun
conure loved the sunflowers which dropped into the baking pan, the only problem is I had a difficult time
holding them between my fingers where they could get to them. They love to eat from my fingers.
Tonight I was noticing how much better Jeb minds me versus Li'l Cookie but she's in her teenage
"I know everything period" so she'll get better. Most of our critters will obey "no", "back up",
"sit" and "scat", as well as come when they are called. I've never tried to teach them other commands,
for me those are the only ones that are important.
No new blooms to share for today, but I expect some beautiful Iris to open in the next day or so.
I hope you are having a peaceful weekend and not working too hard. - Judy
Friday - May 9, 2008 8:00 PM
If you haven't seen the pictures of the pit bull in the engine of a truck, you absolutely must give
yourself a belly laugh by viewing them. Google "There's A Pit Bull In My Engine".
The minute Bob saw the pictures he said "at least it didn't happen here" and then his second thought
was "I hope you aren't thinking about rescuing that dog!!"
No fear about an attempted rescue, I don't even consider taking in Pits or Chows ... too
much breeding close to home in many situations which resulted in crazy critters. Humans
are crazy enough for me. (lol)
Have a wonderful weekend!!! - Judy
PS I have to admit, one of the few times I have been bitten during 55 years of rescuing
critters was by a 8 week old Pomeranian, who belonged to a friend and I was trimming it's
nails ... Sharp toothed little scutter.
Friday - May 9, 2008 5:00 AM
This place is crazy!!! Li'l Cookie and Cherry Cookie are in heat but neither is old enough
to be bred. The oldest is Cherry but she's only 16 months old. We target to breed at 2 years
old, when their body have matured, BUT they are driving poor Jeb crazy. Jeb who is six years old
has been neutered since he was 12 months old however he still likes the girls. This is one case of head shaking that I should
document, he sniffs where they have been, drools and his head shakes ... overly excited.
As soon as he is away from the scent his head stops shaking. He was lying "in wait" for
one of them to come in the house yesterday and we really hurt his feelings by laughing at
him. Bob said we just thought it was one of the girls he was waiting for, it could just have
easily been for the refrigerator door to open. lol lol I got him out a small chunk of pork
and took him into another room, until the girls got settled in.
I hope you are enjoying the pictures of the flowers I've been posting. It sure does my heart good
to share them with you. - Judy

Gracious a really bad storm with thunder and lightening woke me up, but Bob and the
critters are still asleep. (I'm grumbling as I type.)
We had homemade chili with fried cornbread (cornbread fritters) for supper. Although I
had never thought to eat them together before, it was really good. Bob put cheese and
jalapenos on top of his chili ... yuck. lol
I had cooked the "pink beans" with ham hocks which I extracted prior to making the chili.
I gave the bones to the "strays" and cut up the remainder for the bullies, bite or two for each.
I gave the strays the leftover chili and the leftover cornbread to the bullies .. except for a tiny
piece which Blaze (Sun Conure) wanted. See how they work me, I'm an old softy.
Reminder: I cook gravy and stew to pour over the Bullies soaked kibble but as a general
rule they don't get "people cooked food" due to the salt content. Also I try not to use canned
vegetables in their stew due to high sodium levels. I cook mainly fresh meat, eggs and dried products
such as rice, lentils, beans, peas, barley, etc. Somewhere I read dogs can't eliminate
salt as well as humans can, but I have been unable to verify that via the
internet. All I know is my "babies" live longer than
most and are very healthy.
In the prior entry I mentioned the cats wanting to rub on my skinny legs ... you wouldn't
believe all the critters love my feet and legs. They follow behind me so close their
noses bump my legs and occasionally there is a lick, or as I'm sure they would describe
it, a kiss on my leg. They don't do Bob this way, he and I both are perplexed as to why there
is such a fascination with my feet and legs. You would think I put bacon grease on them. lol lol
I hope your morning starts out good and stays that way. - Judy
Iris
Large, bold and beautiful

Large with ruffles
Much like the prior Iris but there are subtle differences.
Small and perky

Come to think of it, I don't believe I told ya'll the good news ... no more asthma!!
I'm hopeful that it will never come back and that the reason I was having such a hard time was the
"clogged up dryer vent". What a stupid cause for an allergy induced asthma attack which lead
to pneumonia with a 103F temperature. I hope I never again in this lifetime have to hold my breath to swallow whiskey
and water. (lol lol)
I was so afraid that I had become allergic to my critters. Now that I know I'm not, I'm hugging them
all up, all of the time, except the cats. The cats only want to rub on my skinny legs. (lol lol)

Time to break out the lawn mower!
We have had a week and a half of high humidity (rain) and enough sunshine to create a jungle.
There is a strange weed (bind weed?) that has invaded our raised flower beds and the grounds around them.
The flowers are yellow-orange miniature daisy looking... The runners are sticky like Velcro and they grow FAST!
The only way to get rid of them is to pull up each and every root... Remind me to take a picture.
Time for Spring Cleaning also! Who needs a spa when you can bend and stretch at home???
Remember what Robert Frost said: "Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length."

As far as I know this is a Judy's Original Recipe
Italian Sandwich Recipe - Family Size
Simple Focaccia Loaf
(Bought at Wal-Mart, Everything Topping)
Olive Salad
(Ordered via Internet from New Orleans)
Italian Sausage Links, cooked split down the middle, cut in half
(Kroger Brand package of 6)
Pasta Sauce, warmed
(Wal-Mart's Great Value, Italian Garden)
Asiago Cheese, 1/2 cup, small wedge fresh grated at home
(From Kroger I believe but not their brand)
Slice the Focaccia down the middle length-wise, hold that knife, cut so that when you finish you have
two thinner layers but in the same shape as the original loaf. (I hope that made sense.)
Spread a generous amount of Olive Salad on the bottom layer of the bread, layer on the sausage,
spread generous amount of pasta sauce over the top but not running off the side. Top with
the Asiago Cheese, cover with top portion of the bread loaf. It's ready and it's messy but
Oh My how delicious. Cut loaf into serving size pieces with a serrated knife.
Note from Bob: It's fantastic! What a wonderful cook!
Tuesday - May 6, 2008 5:50 PM
Busy, busy day. After morning chores were finished, we went to the big city for supplies and had fun
shopping for bargains ... $.79 per pound pork roasts, $1.58 per pound ground chuck, $.79 ham shank portion.
The sell by date is tomorrow so we tossed it all into the freezer to use later.
Iris
Aren't these beautiful!! I have so much work to do on the flower beds but these make it
worthwhile.
We are in the process of breeding 2 females but will not know for at least 30 days if the
breeding was successful or not, so please don't contact me about them until we at least
have a good idea that there will be puppies. I will post the information here first.
I hope you are having a good week and if not I hope you can turn it around. - Judy

After that last entry would you believe.....
I was in the hospital? I didn't expect you would, I'm a tough old bird.
I ran away from home? Nope, you know I love my Big Bob and critters too much.
How about....
I laughed and giggled my way through the State of Mississippi while buying plants ...
I knew you
would believe that one!!! Unfortunately, I didn't get to do that but I did go into
a "down-time" mode, not depressed or anything but physically and emotionally spent.
We have a couple of females in heat and they are attracting the attention of 2 male
Blue Heelers (Australian Cattle Dogs) belonging to a neighbor across the road. Question is should I knock on their
door and ask if I can have their dogs neutered or do you think they would notice if I
had it done without asking? I thought Bob would fall out of his chair laughing when I light
heartedly suggested the later. (lol)
We took the puppy pool outside and put about 2 inches of water in it thinking that Li'l Cookie
would love it, but she was a bit timid at first. Later she would run through it over and over again. Bob
took a video but it isn't good so I'm not going to post it. She'll probably "show out" tomorrow
and if so, we'll take another video.
Iris In Bloom
We have many more in bloom but the storms have damaged the blooms so we didn't take their pictures.
PS: Boomer isn't limping now, but still favoring it a little.

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and
other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old
before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing
and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She
had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight
yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect
her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed
behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life
changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and
became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were
robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the
country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
