I'm still up from the 4:00 AM puppy feeding, Bob was able to go back to sleep, but I kept
reading the same page of a book over and over until I finally decided to get out of bed
before I disturbed his sleep. The first thing I did was to check the weather and such
strange weather it is. It's 70F this morning and the high is predicted to be 85F.
Comparing that with the temperature this time yesterday (49F) and it makes me shake my
head.
Yesterday we made another trip to Corinth, MS. We had a short list of things to buy, most of
which we couldn't locate but were please to find bait shop on Hwy 72 at the railroad bridge, had
goldfish in stock, most of the time he doesn't. We got 2 dozen for the
little pool and I sure hope they don't end up being lunch for some snake later in the
summer. That is what happened last summer to the very large 4 year old goldfish. The new
ones are good size fish already for $7 per dozen. I've gotten goldfish at other places but
his have proven to be the healthiest plus he picked out the largest ones for me.
My plan is to take a few pictures of the puppies today and upload them this afternoon when I take a break from
the heat. - Judy
PS 6:10 AM - I forgot to post the above pictures taken of the puppies when I changed out their kiddy pool yesterday. They were scared and didn't like it at first because they couldn't see out over the edge, but quickly decided the extra space to play was to their liking. Monday - 05/14/2007 5:30 AM Brrr, it's 49F this morning and the high for today is suppose to be 88F. Early morning feeding of the puppies is complete. I checked the turkey which has been cooking in the oven for "awhile", timer had expired etc. and it needed more cooking so it would be easy for me to pull it off the bones for "our gang". Meanwhile they are all saying "Thank You" to Holly for being such a "toot" about eating that I would buy her a turkey when we were at Wal-Mart yesterday. She isn't sick or anything just spoiled. She will smell or see what Bob is eating and bark for it. It didn't take me long before I asked the question, "Have you two been sharing food during the late night puppy feedings?" ... You know the answer. lol lol We're going back to bed for an hour or so nap. - Judy PS The telephone pervert is back ... yuck he caught me off guard. Sunday - 05/13/2007 4:00 PM
"Hope" has her eyes open! What a Mother's Day present! Hope can see her mama now and let's her know when it's time to eat! Being an only child, she tends to be a little spoiled but that's alright for now. Bob and I had a celebration lunch at the new Mexican restaurant in Corinth, Rancho Viejo! What great food! and service! And then we stopped at the supply house (Wal*Mart) for a new playpen for Hope and one for Juliet's. As the puppies grow up, they tend to escape and go looking for their mother. This afternoon, I caught Lewis scampering around and around Juliet's sleeping crate trying to find a way in to his mother! Sunday - 05/13/2007 6:30 AM Goodness, I am hyper this morning. My tail feathers were really dragging yesterday afternoon so I crawled into bed for a little nap, 15 hours later I'm up and feel like a brand new woman!!! I have at least a million physical things that need to be done, like sweeping floors .. speaking of ... Melanie the German Shepherd Rescue sheds worse than 5 English Bulldogs and of course all of them are blowing their coats since it's gotten hot here!! It's very important for Holly to eat since she has the nursing puppy, but that heifer has gotten my number. She'll only eat hamburger or pork liver and drink her Bully Mama milk shakes, so you know I'm trying everything in the world to get her to get her to eat, meanwhile catering to her call of "hamburger please and hold the mustard". I hope you have a wonderful day. - Judy Saturday - 05/12/2007 11:20 AM It's official all of Juliet's puppies have been reserved. Lewis is being placed with the "Bailey Family of Michigan". Hope is almost old enough for me to allow her to be reserved. I posted this while on my early lunch break now I must get back to work. - Judy Saturday - 05/12/2007 6:00 AM From: JENNIFER Sent: Friday, May 11, 2007 1:04 PM Subject: THE WINNING SMILE Hi Judy, I thought you might like to see current pictures of Carmela ( formerly Maxine, of Eve and Jazzman's 3-5-06 litter ). We attended a fundraising walkathon for homeless dogs, she was the only bulldog that attended. She didn't quite walk that far, but she enjoyed socializing with the other dogs. Anyway, they had several contests for the dogs to partake in . . .we entered her into the "Winning Smile" contest, there's nothing more cute than a bulldog smile so I knew she had a good chance. She won!! You can't look at that face and not love it. Thanks, Jennifer
Friday - 05/11/2007 11:40 AM I'm not ever going to get anything accomplished if I don't stop playing with puppies. Here is a picture of Holly's Hope; fat, full and asleep. I couldn't pass up sharing this with you, sure made me smile. Friday - 05/11/2007 7:50 AM Of course we've been up and down with Hope all night the latest early morning meal ended at 3 AM so it was up again at 6 AM. She is so cute and active. We've just finished breakfast of biscuits, country sausage and fried eggs. I couldn't finish my one of everything so Cherry Cookie will get the leftovers. She is such a mess. First thing in the morning she runs out to potty then it's back in for the treat and a little dry puppy chow that's been left in her crate, but I swear she can hear an egg being cracked regardless of how noisy the house is. She assumes it's boiled eggs and she wants her share. Juliet's puppies had their early morning mush, cleaned up and covered in a blanket heated in the dryer and now it's time to let them nurse. They are really growing and I'm kept busy cleaning up after them. lol lol Right now, I totally clean the pool twice a day, but in the meanwhile I'm policing it and laying down clean t-shirts to cover soiled areas. Have a wonderful weekend and make every moment count. - Judy Thursday - 05/10/2007 7:00 PM
"Hope" is a week old! She is very healthy and being the only puppy in the litter, she gets to pick the menu and more importantly, she gets to pick where she wants to eat! She is gaining weight but not too much. We still think she's going to be a mini-bulldog... Thursday - 05/10/2007 7:00 AM
And yet another Iris. The late freeze in our area killed so many buds that I didn't think I would get to enjoy my Iris this year but it only got the early bloomers, this one is blooming now and I have several more about to open.
Wednesday - 05/09/2007 1:30 PM It looks like we're not going to have any available puppies as of tomorrow. The Bailey Family are to make their deposit on Lewis then. I want Holly's female puppy, Hope, to get a little older before I offer her as available. I feel almost certain she will be a mini because her mother is a mini and Hope was so small when she was born .. still is but a healthy, active, little thing. - Judy
Wednesday - 05/09/2007 9:30 AM Precious Moments luckily I had a camera near by. Yesterday was Lewis's awakening to just how good solid food, well mushy, can be. lol lol Puppies are doing great and we're leaving them out in the pool 24x7 now, before they were in a plastic storage type box and we would only put them in the pool to nurse. It is such fun watching them grow and develop. This morning I received an email from a lady who lives in Nashville, saying she will be reserving Kay today, which will make only Lewis available. Get ready to smile ....
In closing this entry, just let me say, I'm sure Lewis was thinking "here's the beef". I had added scrambled hamburger meat to Juliet's softened Purina Puppy Chow. He stopped nursing, put his head in her bowl and was sucking down the food, I put him back to nurse and out he came again to get to the beef which he is too young to have. We really do have fun but it's hard work and we get behind on all our other chores. - Judy Oops, forgot to post the Iris pictures....
Tuesday - 05/08/2007 12:30 AM Juliet's litter update: Jackson was reserved a few days back for "The Lay Family" and Heather was reserved yesterday for "The Harrison Family". They are still a bit wobbly when walking but are getting around very well so well in fact that yesterday was their first day of play. Not wanting the opportunity to slip by I took 25 pictures of puppies just to make you smile. They are a series from nursing to playing then getting tired and finally going to sleep. I do so hope you enjoy them.
Here I have only posted the smaller version so they can't be copied, for an enlarged version click here for Litter Page and single click any picture to enlarge Monday - 05/07/2007 11:00 AM
Where ever there is a new puppy, there is "Hope"! Naming puppies is getting harder
every day... There should be some connection between their father (In this case,
Guitarman) and their mother (that would be Holly). And it should be meaningful but short.
So, how about it? Will you give me a "Little Hope"? - Bob
PS By Judy - I think Bob needs some sleep, the above is a little weird don't you think!!?? Monday - 05/07/2007 8:00 AM
Everybody-- Into the pool! What a joy to watch Juliet's little tykes dig into their
first solid (well, mushy) food. They teeter... they taste... and then they tumble in!
For a first time, it was a success! The guideline that we use to time the first feeding
of mush is 28 days or whenever every puppy in the litter can walk fairly well. But, this
is day 20 (a week early but Jackson was trying to eat Juliet's food) although they do have
their "sea legs."
Juliet has decided that
'enough is enough' and is through putting up with their sharp little teeth and toe nails.
She does let them nurse for about fifteen minutes and then scrambles back to her bed.
What's a "puppygal" suppose to do? Feed them mush! They are going to be 'pleasingly plump' in
a couple of weeks.

This is Holly's first litter and she isn't quite sure about this strange being nestled so
closely! So Big Daddy needs to pet Holly and make sure the little one is nursing as much
as she wants... Holly loves the attention and when she sees her caretaker getting the bed
comforter in place, she's ready!

Georgia's bout with pneumonia seems to be almost over!
She sure scared us... poor little girl.
Yesterday Georgia and I took a little walk in the garden and she acted just like nothing was wrong. Maybe after another couple of days of antibiotics and
a trip to the vets, we will breathe a sigh of relief. Until then, she's special girl number one.
Of course, we have several other number one girls: Holly (newest mama), Juliet (new mama), Cherry Cookie (newest addition), and Melanie (newest rescue). And we love them all! Saturday - 05/05/2007 1:00 PM
This is Lewis up from his nap! Such a cutie... It's too early to see what their personalities are but so far, Lewis (male, AKC) is a snuggler. His
two sisters are more demanding when their mother (Juliet) is late with their lunch.
And of course, Jackson, is leader of the pack (to quote a song from 1964).

On my way out to the doggy play pens with Holly, I happened to see
my first "Peace"! It had rained in the wee small hours of the night so the dew
sparkled in the morning sun. The rose was one that I scavanged from a Home Depot "marked down" shelf -- the only "Peace" out of a hundred other no name plants. Judy had given me two "Chicago Peace" rose bushes and they are beautiful but haven't bloomed yet this spring.

This is Holly's first pregnancy and litter -- she's new at the whole experience.
She had had four A/I's so we couldn't be sure when labor would start-- the average is sixty three days after ovulation.
So, on day 62, we were checking her every two hours during the night and during the day, she was in the kitchen with us.
She had milk, her temperature was 99.4 degrees, and she didn't want food -- all signs of impending labor.
We loaded up the puppy mobile with extra baby blankets (clean tee shirts), a snuggle safe, and sheets to wrap up the new mother
on the way home. Three signs were NOT present: she had not lost her plug and she was not 'nesting' and she was not
panting so we asked the vet to check her when we brought her into the operating bay. He verified the temperature at 99.4
but she was dialated but not much. His decision was to go ahead and do the C-section.
"Just one!" the vet announced. And so the culmination of the two month wait was a little girl bulldog -- healthy and alert!
The umbilical clamp was snapped in place, the puppy was slung, her nose and throat were cleared with the use of an
ear syringe, and thoroughly and roughly rubbed. It took nearly four minutes until the new born started crying for food
and warmth. Everyone thought that she was cute as a button (and about the size of a button!)
We bundled up mother and daughter and brought them home. She was born at 11:30 and exactly two hours later, she was home with her mother happily nursing. The photos were taken during this first nursing session. Holly is the daughter of Miss B. and The Jazzman. She is shy in disposition with a great bulldog profile (can you see the teeth?). The un-named puppy still has her umbilical clamp that can be seen in the photo. Never a dull moment! Thursday - 05/03/2007 1:30 PM Just got back from the vet's with Holly, Mini-English Bulldog, she had one tiny little female puppy. We didn't get any sleep last night because we were monitoring her, so I'll post more later. - Judy Thursday - 05/03/2007 4:30 AM
Update on Nappy: He's a hoot. He can fly now although still has a bald topknot but he's got his bluff in on the other 7 cockatiels in the big ole cage. He sits on the top perch and if they get anywhere near him, he hisses like a fiend. lol lol Update on Melanie, rescue: She is about to get on my last nerve by being anxious to be with Bob, all the time. She is extremely attached to him, which is good, if she just didn't whine every time he goes out of the house. It will be such a relief for her to be over the heartworms so she can run free and be with him all the time, although Kate and Sweetie Pie have the same mind set so they will have to work that out which might be tense at first.
Wednesday - 05/02/2007 11:00 AM Isn't this Iris beautiful!! Actually it is two flowers one on each side of a scape which makes it look double. All is well here today ... the puppies are growing like weeds and Georgia is continuing to show no signs of her ordeal. I've got the washing almost completed with only the load of work jeans needing to be dried but they will probably have to wait until the sun goes down tonight because it's getting hot in a hurry. The high temperature is suppose to be 81F with a low tonight of 61F. My plan is to take pictures today which I want to get posted tonight or in the morning. Bob says he's worried about me because I'm not making my normal trips to all the plant nurseries, plus I turned down offers of free plants last weekend and there is a plant swap this weekend that I have no desire to attend. I told him it was our off and on Spring weather, having Juliet's puppies to care for plus everything else that's going on in our life right now. Not to worry, I'll make up for it next Spring. I'm off to complete chores and try to decide which Iris I can dig right now to send to our friend Twyla in Oklahoma who is facing cancer, plus other health problems. My objective is to make her smile. - Judy Tuesday - 05/01/2007 1:30 PM The last 24 hours have been crazy. Yesterday morning, I awoke with a fever and was on the verge of getting a bad case of bronchitis. I took medicine and returned to bed. Bob said not to worry he would take care of everything and he did Bless His Heart. Sweet Georgia Brown was ready to be bred so he took her and Guitarman to the vet's around 1:30 PM and when the clock showed 4:30 he still wasn't home. I got up to let the puppies nurse and about the time they finished, I heard the van pull into the drive. When Bob came in the backdoor he was so pale I knew something really bad had happened. Evidently the heat and excitement caused Georgia to upchuck her lunch part of which she aspirated into her lungs preventing her from breathing. Emergency treatment started immediately since the vet was present. Bob told me all of this standing just inside the door. He hadn't brought her inside, she was still in the van with the air conditioning running, because he needed to prepare me for the awful news there was little chance that she would live through the night. Nothing he could have said would have prepared me for the limp, gasping for air body that earlier in the day had been our lovable wiggle butt. If I had been at the vet's I would have asked them to "put her to sleep" to keep her from suffering, it was that awful and I can surely relate to not being able to breath since I had part of one lung removed due to a tumor. I was so shocked I felt like I was going to faint. He asked me to go back upstairs and take care of myself, he would take care of everything else. To be perfectly honest with you, his words were such a relief. I took more medicine and crawled back into bed, then out of bed I came with suggestions, back upstairs into bed racking my brain and coming up with more suggestions. Bob gave me updates several times during the night, but it was hard to believe she was better like he said. Maybe he wanted her to be better so badly that he was seeing what wasn't there. I dropped off to sleep in the wee hours of the morning. When I finally woke up this morning and went downstairs. Georgia's crate was empty and so was Melanie's. Calling to Bob didn't produce a response they were all gone, plus the backdoor was standing open. I immediately thought Georgia had died and Melanie had somehow escaped the house by opening the door. Then I notice the van was gone. Almost in a panic, heart pounding etc, I saw the note he had left me. Georgia was 100% better!!! He, Melanie and Georgia had gone to the vet's office to have one of them listen to Georgia's lungs and heart. Dr Frank was amazed at her recovery. Bob didn't think it registered with Dr Frank when Bob told him "I gave her cayenne pepper along with all the other treatments", because Dr Frank didn't comment. Georgia isn't out of danger yet because the food particles could set up an infection in her lungs therefore she's still on medicine and will be for a week, but Bob's sleeping beside her crate on the floor and giving her such excellent care certainly saved Georgia's life last night. I followed Dr Frank's lead and I didn't comment on the cayenne pepper either. - Judy (Note: this episode and/or medicine abruptly stopped her heat cycle.) Click Here Judy's Garden 2005!!
