"Eric -- Reserved for Thursday Pick Up", Tuesday - March 31, 2009 9:00 PM Eric is really happy when his daddy holds him...
"Storm With Hail Headed Toward Us", Tuesday - March 31, 2009 10:45 AM There is a large storm heading north, up through Mississippi, with a couple of cells containing hail looking like they are sure to move right through our place. The critters will hunker down and we won't hear a peep from them. That's good, but my newly planted Angel's Trumpets will get beaten up if indeed we get hail. I just took my "medicine" and am going to follow the critter's lead. - Judy "Critters Helping To Garden", Tuesday - March 31, 2009 10:45 AM I forgot to tell you how the critters were acting while we were working in the yard.... All grown Bullies were in outside dog runs, except for Jeb and Ruckus. Melanie was following Bob every step that he made which included trying to help him dig holes. Boy if I could just train her, she's a powerful digger. Jeb grabbed a long wisteria runner in his mouth and tried to help pull it out. Then Bob let Ruckus outside. Jeb doesn't like him because Ruckus tries to herd Jeb like he does me. Jeb growled at him a couple of time last week so I've endeavored to keep them apart. Well Ruckus was stepping on the "good" plants, wadding in buttercup foliage and just being a pest as Jeb sat in the driveway watching us. Oops Ruckus tried to herd me and Jeb came running to the rescue, got between me and Ruckus then snapped at Ruckus as if to say, leave my Mama Judy alone, she'll fall 'cause she's got a bad leg. Bob took Ruckus back into the house so we could work in peace. Moments later I heard Jeb pulling the water hose across the back porch, headed for his den. He got as far as the back-door when he accidentally upset a broom and it fell on his head. That's when he decided it was too much trouble. 30 feet he pulled that big ole commercial size water hose. lol lol I've decided we try to protect Ruckus too much because of his bad eye, but now it's time to let Jeb teach him some manners, starting as soon as I'm feeling a little better because I want to be there to control the situation. Jeb won't hurt him, but he'll make Ruckus think he's going to eat him up!! lol lol When Melanie acted like she was going to take matters into her own paws Bob and I both told her "no" so now she avoids Ruckus. I'm going to tell her it's OK to take up for herself and see if that helps. Again she won't hurt him but she'll get her point across. "I'm Stupid!!!", Tuesday - March 31, 2009 5:10 AM Any normal person who is coughing and has a high temperature would immediately go to bed, but we all know I'm not normal. The young man who calls ever so often wanting to know if we have any work for him, came today. Not knowing when he would be back, I HAD to get some yard work done. I took an antihistimine, 2 tablespoons of whiskey mixed with twice as much water to dialate my treachea and an Aleve to control the fever, then off to work I went. The helper worked with Bob until around 10 AM, then we started working in the yard. Bob, the helper and I planted in raised beds 25 of those sticks in the buckets, I just hope they will all live. They are Angel's Trumpets of different colors, click on the above link for more pictures. After that the young man and I started in cutting back and digging up wisteria. If a friend of yours mentions getting wisteria, beg them not to do it, however if you really don't like a person but circumstances demand you be around them and act civil ... buy them a wisteria plant. lol lol The dern things try to take over their environment, worse than kutzu I assure you and almost as bad as bermuda grass. Stores should not be allowed to sell them, or at least there should be a warning on the label. The helper asked if I ever raked up all the dead leaves in the yard area and I told him no, they helped to control unwanted growth, weeds and things, plus enriched the soil. We've never planted grass seed because I wanted the area to be rustic looking with tuffs of wild grass and native wildflowers, but at times it gets totally out of hand. Those wild things are wild about growing. MICHELLE, PICK ALL THOSE WEEDS OUT OF THE PLANTS I GAVE YOU. DON'T GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO GO TO SEED. Around 1 PM, I stopped long enough to take more "medicine" and fix lunch. Long about 3:30 PM I was done for, I couldn't continue working so we called it a day. Whew!! When the young man left, Bob & I took a break, then started back working. It was around 7 PM when I had to have more "medicine" because my breathing became ragged and we called it a day. Now tell me I'm NOT stupid. Bob just shook his head but didn't say a word knowing I was determined to get those Angel's Trumpets in the ground, since rain was in the immediately forecast. - Judy I'm going back to bed which is what I should have done yesterday. My voice is like a frog croaking.- Judy "Cord Blood Or Bone Marrow Transplant Needed", Monday - March 30, 2009 5:10 PM Please watch this video then read the article on ABC News and pass the information along. This adorable child needs our help. ABC News article written about Jasmina "Road Kill Rules", Monday - March 30, 2009 9:45 AM First off, here in west Tennessee at the Mississippi border, we are getting into warm weather and that's bad for judging how long ago a critter was killed by a passing vehicle, plus they spoil quickly when it's hot. A sure fire indication of road kill that's beyond the eating stage is buzzards circling in the air. I'm a firm believer that it's the smell of rotting flesh that brings them in, but many will disagree. At any rate, you don't want to have to fight the buzzards for the kill. If it's big game you looking for such as deer, early morning and early night are the times for driving the highways. BUT be careful cause the deer could be just knocked out and if you load it up and it comes around, woo doggie it makes for a dangerous situation. Not too far from here years ago 911 got a call from a man in a telephone booth .. seems he spotted a dead deer loaded it in the back seat of his Cadillac. The long and short of it, the deer came around, there was a telephone booth near, he went to call 911, meanwhile the deer is tearing up the backseat of his car and along comes the pack of dogs that evidently chased the deer onto the road in the first place. The man had the scent of deer on him so they surround the telephone booth, snapping, pawing and growling. He's trying to hold the door closed to keep the dogs out while trying to tell the operator where he was and what was going on. Meanwhile the half crazed deer is steadly destroying the backseat of his Caddie. The sheriff's deputy played the recording for my husband but not for me, "Ms Judy, you don't want to hear the language the man uses". The men in the neighborhood were almost bent double laughing when he played the tape outside out in the yard. Eric is now reserved and will be going to middle Tennessee to live. He is to be picked up later this week. Have a good day and I hope the above made you smile. "Flu Or Something Dang Near Like It", Monday - March 30, 2009 8:30 AM Yesterday afternoon while working in the kitchen I realized the apricots and plums we had purchased were getting overly ripe. I washed them good sliced them up, sprinkled with brown sugar and cooked them in the microwave until the plums were totally cooked but the apricots still held their shape, somewhat. Bob loved it and thought I had invented a "new dish" but I told him it was a southern thing to do when you had too much fruit on hand and that after it was cooked you could put it in the freezer for use later, use some to cook a cobbler, add Brandy for an easy Brandied Fruit, etc. He made a big dent in the amount by eating it over ice cream twice yesterday. I've got the flu or something dang near like it. I surely hope I didn't pass this along to any of the new puppy parents. Thursday when we met Michelle we stopped in a little store for a few minutes and there was another customer who was coughing and kept getting close to me. We left on that account and now I'm the one doing the coughing. I've got a ton of work to do but ..... - Judy "Update on Ginger - now "Kassy", Sunday - March 29, 2009 1:30 PM Received an update and photos of "Kassy".
"Update on the Little Drummer Boy - now "Knox", Sunday - March 29, 2009 1:00 PM Received an update and photos of Knox.
"Even Cooler Today" Sunday - March 29, 2009 11:45 AM Bob eased out of bed this morning to take care of the critters, thus allowing me to sleep in. I didn't get up until 10 AM. I surely needed to recoup and may go back to bed as soon as I get my must do chores completed. Although the puppies need to go to their new homes because they are running me ragged with all the eating, pooping and clean up, I believe I just get stressed out letting go of them and it takes a toll on my physical will being. A day or two in bed should get me back in Rock-N-Roll shape. lol lol Dancin' to this right now would either cure or kill me, don't know which!! lol lol "Cold Snap", Saturday - March 28, 2009 7:00 PM Dog Gone It!! The low is forecasted to be 35 F with a "Real Feel" of 26 F, I suppose I better at least bring in the seeds cups. lol lol We only left one GIANT crate on the back porch for the "strays that came to stay" and they are pouting. They want the other crates back so they will have their own den. I told them they were going to have to make do because all those crates were taking up to much room on the back porch. - Judy "Jack Pickup in Walnut, MS", Saturday - March 28, 2009 5::40 PM Jack loved Jason's beard and Kathy wanted both Jack and Eric. lol lol They settled on Jack, who is the one Jason wanted from the start. They are a wonderful couple. He keeps any conversation lively with his quick wit and comic banter. Kathy is a real puppygal, she holds critters close to her heart. Let me catch my breath for a few minutes or maybe a few hours, then I'll post pictures. The wind was gosh awful, we all got in Jason's car to play with puppies and I like to have never gotten out, this ole shoulder wouldn't let me put enough pressure on my arm to help lift me up, but finally with Bob's help I got out. Inbetween Ginger leaving this morning and Jack going to his new home this afternoon I had several calls from people inquiring about puppies. I had to tell them all that I was brain dead, no sleep last night and we've been running in third gear for too long. We stopped at Wal-Mart after Lydia and family got Ginger but when we came out we couldn't find the van. Never has that happened before but it sure happened today. I'll never again laugh at people roaming a parking lot in search of their car, I know how it feels .... tired. - Judy
"Ginger Pickup in Corinth, MS", Saturday - March 28, 2009 8:15 AM Lydia and her family got up at 4 AM this morning to drive from Georgia to Mississippi to meet us and pick up their new "baby"! Such a great family! AND they brought their WHOLE family - a Pekinese and a Boston bulldog so Everyone got to welcome Ginger! New name "Kassy"! (I'm thinking that Kassy has a new daddy!)
"I bet the crappie are biting", Friday - March 27, 2009 8:15 PM The goldfish were busily mating in the pool, so I bet the crappie are biting. I would love a big ole mess of crappie with sides of cole slaw and hushpuppies. Good eating!! BUT you know by now that when I go fishing I use multiple poles which can get confusing if more than one strikes at a time, it's just a Judy Thing. - Judy "How I plant Iris (lol lol), Friday - March 27, 2009 11:15 AM How I plant Iris...... Pick a place in the yard partial shade to full sun, lay down several layers of newspaper or thin cardboard about the size of a large bag of potting soil, dump a sack of potting soil on top, lay down Iris rhizome, dump another 1/2 bag of soil on top. Then you water this down with your sprayer head set on "shower". As the soil gets wet and settles you will begin to see the very top of the rhizome, that's good. Doing thus creates an area which will drain well which is what Iris like. I feed them bulb food when planted, then a couple of times during the summer.(Bermuda Grass can't be stopped, it will send runners up and over and come from beneath I hate the stuff.) "Winston (was Hershey)going home!!!", Friday - March 26, 2009 11 AM Michelle sent pictures of Winston on the way home and after he got settled:
"Hershey is on his way home!!!", Thursday - March 25, 2009 7:30 PM Chris and Michelle loved him and thought he was the most beautiful English Bulldog they had ever seen. They said they thought he was great looking after seeing his pictures and videos but after seeing him in person they felt he was a hundred times more handsome. We had a wonderful visit with them and I feel very confident I chose great parents for Hershey. Pictures will be posted later tonight or tomorrow morning. - Judy Hershey (new name Winston -- not Scooby)
"It finally rained", Thursday - March 25, 2009 8:34 AM
If it hadn't rained last night I was going to pull that heavy water hose around the yard to water in the flea and tick
stuff, so I'm mighty proud of this rain for that reason, plus all the vegetation needed a good long drink. I firmly
believe, "Water from a hose, keeps them alive until Mother Nature sends a rain to make them thrive."We've completed the first round of chores and are taking a breakfast break. I'm headed outside to dig plants for Michelle. I'll be back later with pictures. This picture is of one of the young peach trees, taken in 2004.- Judy "Spring House Cleaning", Wednesday - March 25, 2009 7:00 PM We had a young man come to help with the heavy stuff so I got into the spring house cleaning mode. I would never have thought it, but now I'm convinced a person could kill themselves working too hard. Bob and I both are about to drop. He even got a little testy with me, which he almost never does. I'm the testy one!! lol lol Puppies are doing great, Bob took them for their well puppy exam yesterday. The only problem was Jack has a twitching left eye ball. Bob tried to show me but it wouldn't do it for him. Today I kept picking him up and Bob would hold the lids open further than normal. Yep I saw it. I searched the internet and I can't find anything about a twitching eye ball, but let me tell you if someone held my eyelid open like that I would have more than a twitching eye ball. I asked the new owner to contact his vet to see what he thought. Our vet was suppose to call me back with the name, but they are shorthanded since our regular vet, his brother, is out with a knee injury. Michelle who is getting Hershey tomorrow is also getting a load of plants for her new yard; Iris, Daylilies, semi-dwarf peach trees and anything else I can think of to take to her. The peach trees are purple leafed and the early spring blooms are a delight. It takes several years for them to start producing fruit but meanwhile she can enjoy the trees. I'm bringing this day to a close. I'm going to snuggle up in bed and read a mystery, Bob bought me 10 books at the junk store last weekend, including a Perry Mason I hadn't read, what a delight. - Judy "Whew Doggie!!!", Tuesday - March 24, 2009 7:30 PM Pictures as promised. Remember these are the BEFORE pictures. Looks really dismal and the first reaction of most folks would be to throw all that MESS away, but believe me when I say "a little tender loving care will do wonders".
"My Tail Feathers Are Draggin'", Tuesday - March 24, 2009 5:10 PM Weather Forecast For Tonight: Lows in the lower 50s. South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to near 45 mph becoming southwest 15 to 20 mph and gusty after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent. Now don't you know we've removed the poly covering on the porch, brought all the Angel's Trumpets out onto the porch from a second story bedroom and the barn, moved all the seed cups to the porch, potting soil makings moved to an area so I can mix and pot, etc. Now the wind is blowing everything every which way. lol lol I'm so tired I don't even care. I'm determined to get the house back in order and to heck with the plants if that is what it takes. Bob took pictures today of all the mess because it amazes him how I can transform the "sticks" into beautiful Angel's Trumpets. I try to tell him anyone can do it but he's convinced I have a special plant power. I have to admit I do have good luck with them so I'll go on letting him believe I have a special way with plants. Today I used Black Cow Manure Compost, cheap soil conditioner, perlite and peat moss. Tossed in alfalfa pellets, timed released fertilizer, a little 13-13-13. When I finished I asked Bob to compare the texture to that of Miracle Grow potting soil, this was before the alfalfa, by holding a small handful of each, Both were the same. I like a little sand in my potting soil if I'm potting up begonias but right now I'm going to pot up the Angel's Trumpets which by the way are fertilizer hogs. About every 4 weeks I fed them with Bayer's Rose 2-in-1, with in between feedings of miracle grow, I toss the blue crystals into the pots or around the plant if it is in the ground, then water it in. I've found this is easier than making up the Miracle Grow or attaching a container to a water hose. Dragging a heavy hose is just too much for me. With as many plants as I normally have, the water hose dragging, stooping over to care for the puppies as well as the adult dogs, will get me down in my back quickly. I've done enough today to kill me, but I'll be back later to post the pictures Bob took if they turned out well. - Judy PS A general recipe for potting soil is: Equal parts soil, sand, vermiculite, peat moss and compost and all purpose fertilizer. "Animal Odd Couple", Monday - March 23, 2009 2:45 PM "Sleepy, Lazy Monday ", Monday - March 23, 2009 1:00 PM I think I'll crawl back into bed for a long afternoon nap ... lol lol .... wishful thinking. I have a mound of washing to do. I've already washed up the morning dishes and poopy puppy sheets have been cleaned, but now it starts anew, time to feed them all again. All the grown critters want to be outside to enjoy the nice weather, but we've put down flea and tick granular which have not been watered down so that's out. It's been suppose to rain and now it's cloudy but no rain so far. As sure as I pull that heavy hose all around the big yard area to wet it all down there will be a gully washer that will wash all the granules away. I'm wanting to take down the poly covering the porch and rearrange the plants but AccuWeather shows 34F for next Monday so I really need to wait. On the other hand, so what if some of them don't make it. It will save me the problem of next winter deciding which to give away and which to winter-over. We were sitting out in the yard with Jerry Lee and Melanie when all of a sudden she squealed out, turned to me and lifted a paw like it was hurt. I asked Bob to put up Jerry Lee, right quick, so we could take care of Melanie. She followed him into the house as if nothing happened. Either she was fooling me to get attention, since Bob was holding Jerry Lee or it wasn't a big deal. Doesn't this sound like something kids would do!! Speaking of critters, if the strays are not on the porch and I want them, I call out "kitty, kitty" and they will come running. Why, because they think the cats are getting something special to eat. The cockateils are making puppy squealing sounds which causes us to jump and run. I got so tired of it this morning, I asked Bob to cover their cages, but then decided we would just take a break, by going out into the yard to sit a spell and talk. That was when Melanie "hurt her foot". lol The critters are trying to drive me crazy today. - Judy "OK Bullies, Do The Bully Butt Wiggle!!", Sunday - March 22, 2009 4:00 PM "OK Bullies, Let's Boogy!!", Sunday - March 22, 2009 1:30 PM I love this type of music, perks me right up. I wore out two O'Brother and one Sam & Dave CDs and while fighting the "blues" a couple of years ago. lol lol This rendition is stretched out too much for me but the music will get you up and dancing. They are special to me because they are from my hometown of Memphis, TN. "Yuck", Sunday - March 22, 2009 10:40 AM Just about daylight awaken to an older puppy screaming, Bob rushed downstairs. Immediately he saw that Rolo had his lower jaw caught on the storage bucket next to their pool where we keep bedding and toys for a quick change. After a few quick steps, Rolo was freed, then Bob realized he had stepped in a pile of poo and tracked it across the kitchen to Rolo. At this point, he saw Jack out of his pool roaming the kitchen ... what a way for poor Bob to wake up!!! (I confess I did have to laugh better him than me, because Bob took the whole situation so lightheartedly.) I hope you are having a peaceful day. - Judy "Tootsie Roll goes to her new home...", Saturday - March 21, 2009 10:40 AM Londa from Indiana met us in Jackson, Tennessee this morning to pick up her new baby, Tootsie Roll. Londa's friend who drove, brought his bullie who fell in love with the little bit! The first photos are of Tootsie waking up early this morning with her litter mates.
"The Voodoo Doctor Was Right", Friday - March 20, 2009 10:40 PM LOL LOL Mildred called to tell me what the "voodoo doctor", as she calls him, said to do about kidney stones. I don't know what's going on but today I was bent over with another one. I did as he said and almost immediately there was relief, but I swanny I couldn't drink 3-20 oz of Sprite, I got down two and a third of the last one. Thanks to the "voodoo doctor", her term for a doctor who believes in alternative medicine. "Getting Puppies Ready To Leave Home", Friday - March 20, 2009 1:40 PM Tootsie Roll goes to her new home tomorrow ... I'm going to miss her she is so sweet. The other pups are going to their new homes next week, with Eric being the exception. Bob swears I always have a problem finding the right parents for the last puppy and I have to admit he is right. Be proud of me I walked away from the nursery department at Wal-Mart the other day without buying a single plant, bulb or seed. I did see lots of "stuff" I wanted but used self-control. I'm doing a lot of that lately, maybe it's because we've been working so hard. When the young man was here yesterday I asked him to dig up some daylilies in an area which is no longer getting enough sun to bloom, so if you are getting a puppy, let me know if you want some, meanwhile I'll try to find a picture of them. - Judy "Well That Didn't Work", Thursday - March 19, 2009 10:30 PM The human baby formula upset the digestive system of Bessie's puppies so I went back to yogurt, which is doing well so far. Bob gave them their 1st puppy shot today so they will be ready for their "well puppy physical" on Monday. Since people take their "sick" animals to the vet we always give the puppies their first shot and then allow a few days for it to take before we take them in for the exam. Even at that, I won't let anyone touch them and don't bring them into the waiting area, it's straight to the examination room from the van. lol lol It takes a lot of energy to keep up with the puppies, feeding, cleaning, feeding, cleaning all day. Also I had a young man come today to dig holes for me to plant buckeye trees, which I grew from seeds I picked up from under a tree. They are the Southern Buckeye and are beautiful in the Spring loaded with blooms which attract hundreds of bees. The ones I'm going to plant are very similar to this picture but I surely do think the blooms were pink. Red Buckeye I'm off to bed, it's been a long, long day. - Judy "Wednesday Whew!!", Wednesday - March 18, 2009 10:30 PM Most physical ailments improve or run their course in two weeks, therefore I seldom rush to a doctor, but last night the idea of going to the ER was starting to sound good. Fortunately, all is resolved now but it was so so bad I swear pain shot all through my body even toes and fingers. Whew, glad that is over. Now I'm doing good, only problem is I don't have total range of motion in the right shoulder, but it's improving. Bessie Smith doesn't want to wean her puppies nor do they want to be weaned. lol lol I believe the Mama Bully should be the one to decide when it's time and if taken early the pups will have an oral fixation which leads to chewing everything in sight, so it is possible the release date will be moved forward a week or so. Today I went to the "big city" to get dry baby formula to sprinkle over their mushy food in hopes it would enhancing their appetites. I had been mixing in a little yogurt, but they weren't eating well. It worked!! They gobbled down their mushy food so we'll see how it goes. Take care to tell those you love just how much you think about them and how much you love them, we never know what tomorrow will bring. - Judy PS Yes I planted more seeds today, now I'm trying to figure out who I can palm them off on if they all sprout. I have a couple of local people in mind and I'm having lunch with gardening friends, from Memphis, the first part of April so it shouldn't be a problem. lol lol "Tuesday Got Me!!", Monday - March 17, 2009 7:30 PM I kept waking up last night, hot/cold/hot/cold, so Bob got out of bed quietly to let me sleep. Around 9:30 I got up and started working, while he took Hope's puppies in for their "well puppy physical". Our regular vet injured his knee over the weekend and had surgery last night, so we made an appointment with his brother for today. Now the pups are ready to go to their new homes!! Around noon I discovered the reason for the hot/cold awakenings, most likely I have a kidney stone, only birthing is a greater pain!! I'm trying to drink the water well dry hopeful that it will pass right away, I can't take time out for a surgical procedure, I've got a lot of life I plan on living in the next few months. I've had one other small stone years ago so I know this pain, but it sure took me by surprise. DogGone it seems it's always something with my body and none of it is glamorous, you know the kind where people go "Oh, poor baby". Shouting out in a public restroom would scare the dickens out of people so I best stay home until this is resolved. Can't you just imagine being in a Wal-Mart restroom with some screaming woman in the stall next to you. lol lol The radish that I planted in a big ole pot out back have sprouted ... at least I think it's radish. About the time I started to make labels for the 8 pots, puppies started screaming and I took off running. That was 7 days ago and too much has run through my mind for me to remember which seeds I planted in what pot. It also doesn't help that all the pots are exactly alike. lol I tossed some Lily seeds that I collect last year in an outside pot today. It's suppose to take 14 days of 70 F so there is no telling when they will sprout. Does anyone want some to try? I have plenty to share. Oh Geebers, I just read online that sometime it takes 18 months for some lily seeds to sprout. I'm about to finish the salad I'm having for supper, then turn in for the night. - Judy "Plants, Puppies & Pretty Little Misc. Things", Monday - March 16, 2009 8:30 PM These are my favorite things!! I walked around the yard this afternoon and started shaking my head. I have all these seeds started in little clear plastic glasses ... after the walk through I have no idea where I'm going to plant all this stuff. lol lol Most of the roses are toast too closely eaten by the deer is all I can figure. The deer have been in already munching on lilies but I think they singled out the "Ditch Lilies" so that's OK they will overcome the munching and probably go on to bloom. I think the "strays that came to stay" are getting too old because I caught them sitting on the porch watching the deer run by. I think Boomer has given up on his dream of deer stew. lol lol It looks like squirrels have invaded the lily beds because there are holes everywhere but they appear to be after hickory nuts which litter the ground instead of the lilies. Those nuts are almost impossible to crack so I'll take care not to get bitten by a squirrel. The Morning Glory seeds have already sprouted and I have a special place for them. I don't like vining things but Bob does so I'm growing them for him. I think the key to them sprouting so quickly is I let them soak in water for 2 days prior to planting them. I must keep in mind, anything planted in the Spring will need weeding and watering all Summer long!!! The hotter it gets the more care they will need. - Judy PS Melanie is going to love playing ball with Ruckus, he likes to play fetch with his Mama Judy. "Justin Wilson, Cajun Cook" Monday - March 16, 2009 11:45 AM He'll make you laugh!! While you are on YouTube, check out the Justin Wilson cooking videos. "Zydeco Music & Dance" Sunday - March 15, 2009 9:30 PM We love Zydeco music, needless to say it isn't played on the radio here, but we do about this same dance to the Rock-N-Roll oldies on the radio .... but Lordy not for this long. It's a cardio workout for sure but if I kept it up as long as this couple, I would be in the cardio ward at the hospital. lol lol Right now the puppies are taking up our dancing space, but as soon as they have gone to their new homes, it's Dancin' Time. I've started seeds for several varities of Daturas. I should have started them in January but .. I hope they will mature enough to bloom this Summer.
Next I'm going to start seeds for Hardy Dinner Plate Size Hibiscus, but I have to go to the big city for clear plastic cups to plant them in. I heat a screwdriver and punch drain holes in the side of the cup as low as possible, so the excess water can drain out. I've run out of places to sit the cups since some plants had to be brought back into the house.
Click on the lily pictures above and it will take you to a web page I just created to display all the lily pictures I took last summer. There are some duplications but it was too much trouble to sort through all of them so I uploaded the file the way it was. I hope they make you smile!!- Judy "Eric, English Bulldog Puppy" Sunday - March 15, 2009 2:00 PM Today is a "work on the computer day" since we are both tired and all the Bullies are asleep. - Judy
"Ruckus, English Bulldog Pup Pictures" Saturday - March 14, 2009 Noon
Ruckus said it's hard work trying to eat Buttercups when Mama Judy kept chasing me away. Ruckus is the one who is blind in one eye, he had an infection in it when he was about a week old. Up above his eye was also cut by the vet, during the c-section surgery. We've had two other bullies with eye and development problems on one side of their body, plus two other times pups were cut during a c-section. I didn't keep records on them for which I could kick myself. I'm wondering if all three pups were due to the cut or if it was just coincidence. I took a picture of Ruckus as soon as we got him home and the cut is evident. People make mistakes ... vets are after all only human. - Judy "Bully Beef Recipe" Friday - March 13, 2009 5:30 PM We originally ate this at a small cafe on a side street in the Bahamas and it was called Firehouse Breakfast. I came home and duplicated the recipe, later to become aware that it was also called Bully Beef which suited me just fine. Bully Beef a.k.a Firehouse Breakfast 1 can corned beef 1 medium onion, chopped or sliced 1/4 minced garlic from a jar or a small section from a fresh garlic 1/4 teaspoon dried leaf thyme 1/2 can tomatoes with chilies, depend upon the brand you may need to use it all, taste and see 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, if needed, the corned beef might contain enough fat. Heat corned beef in a heavy non-stick frying pan, moderate heat. Push beef to one side, tilt skillet to judge the amount of grease from the beef, add vegetable oil if not enough. Add thyme, onions, garlic and sauté until last two items are limp Mash tomatoes & chilies with your hands then add and stir together Turn down heat to low and watch so that it does not burn. Bully Beef is usually served for breakfast with grits, toast and a fried egg. Some like the egg cooked on top of the Bully Beef, if you do this, just scoop out a place for each egg, add and cook with the lid on to hasten the cooking. Use paper towels to absorb the extra vegetable oil, if any. Have a Wonderful Weekend, rejoice in who you are and be thankful for those who love you!! - Judy "English Bulldog Puppy Pictures" Thursday - March 12, 2009 12:30 AM

Thursday - March 12, 2009 11:30 AM I feel so very much better, I was able to wash my hair!! I hadn't been able to hold my right arm up that high in a couple of weeks. Yuck, dirty hair is depressing!! My shoulder is getting better every day, even after the workout I gave it yesterday helping Bob to tack up the poly around the front porch!! Hopefully if I'm careful it will continue to mend. I took two videos, one of each litter, this morning which should be up on YouTube in a couple of hours, I'll post the links here. The puppies were playing and were so cute, but all that changed once I got the camera out. They were more interested in me and what I was doing. Gracious, these babies are beautiful!! I know I'm not suppose to have a favorite, but I always do, of these two litters Tootsie Roll is it. She's putty in my hands and trusts me completely. She's just special. All the puppies except for Eric have been reserved. I've had many calls about him but you all know how picky I am about who gets one of my babies, we've put too much of ourselves into raising them to let the go to just anyone because they have money. A sure fire way to turn me off is to start telling me how much money etc. you have, instead of telling me about the love you have to give to one of them. Oh Rats, the electronic control on our gas stove has gone out and I'm guessing the repair bill will be $600 or so because a Kenmore repair-person must come out to fix it. The dishwasher sprang a leak and needs to be replaced and then the microwave turntable started making a loud grunting sound. Therefore you know what we'll be doing once the puppies have gone to their new homes ... repair and replacement, plus refinish the kitchen floor. This time I'm using gym finish. It's raining here so it makes doing chores more difficult, but I must get back to them now. - Judy PS Found a better picture of the Goldfish pool, taken 2007
Wednesday - March 11, 2009 10:30 PM Jumping Jehoshaphat!! We just now finished trying to tie down the poly enclosure of the front porch. Looking back it would have been so much simpler to move the plants back inside but I can only take so much of crowded spaces .. I get claustrophobic!!! Wednesday - March 11, 2009 9:30 PM Throw the dice!! Sometime we win, sometime we lose .... not only did Mother Nature throw me a curve ball, she's gonna throw a winter storm this way, low temps and rain are a given, with sleet and snow a high probability. I brought the orchids into the house along with other really sensitive high $ plants. The others we moved onto the front porch and then proceeded to encase them in clear construction 6 mil plastic, ran out and had to do one end with black construction grade poly. Almost finished, Bob had to walk the grown Bullies so I was going to finish up, oops it got dark real quick and all the light bulbs were blown on the front porch. I had to wait on Bob to change them out so I started changing out and feeding the puppies. God Love Them, they are oh so sweet ... puppy breath, puppy kisses and snuggling up tight, this makes all the work worthwhile. - Judy Wednesday - March 11, 2009 11:30 AM Yuck, Yuck!!! Mother Nature has thrown me a curve ball, it's suppose to go down to 32F (freezing) tonight so I've got to figure out what in the world to do with all the plants we moved onto the porch. Good thing I got that "little" moving dolly yesterday, it will make the work much easier. We spent yesterday afternoon driving to Tupelo, MS for a load of dog food at PetSmart. Get ready for sticker shock the next time you buy a bag of dog food, a 34 lb bag of Purina Puppy Chow was $25!!! Speaking of feeding the Bullie. I was cleaning out the refrigerator last night to make room for the items we bought and decided to toss many of the items in with the Puppy Chow I had soaking for the grown bullies; remains of a LARGE can of pumpkin, cottage cheese past it's used by date, and left over split pea soup that I had originally cooked for them, knowing Bob would eat some of it, but what did he do, claimed most of it for himself along with the big ham hock. The soup was seasoned only with a smoked ham hock, but cottage cheese is high in sodium therefore I had to think twice about tossing it in with their food. Before I finished stirring it together the Bullies, plus Melanie, rescued German Shepherd, were barking, whining and doing Bullie Butt wiggles to say "me first". It think it was the smell of the smoked ham hock that caused them temporary insanity. lol lol Then I had the audacity to boil up a dozen eggs ... their all time favorite food. When I began peeling the eggs the Bullies sniffed the air and it started all over again. I hurriedly put the eggs in the refrigerator, they are part of today's planned salad lunch for Bob and I. Catch you later, you know what I'll be doing the remainder of the day!! - Judy Tuesday - March 10, 2009 10:30 AM So where do I plant these seeds, it suppose to be a 20 foot vine with purple flowers, plant in full sun. Maybe these seeds should go to someone else, we have lots of big oak trees, or maybe full sun is just when they are planted up north. Down here in the south they may sizzle in the summer sun and die. I opted for dapple shade for one planting, full sun for another and a cup of soil for another 4, to be given to whomever might want them. I stayed in bed 3 days last week, to keep me from working therefore give my shoulder time to heal. It really helped but movement is still restricted by sharp pain if I try to do something stupid like hold a water hose with that hand while pulling it forward with the other hand/arm.
Ruckus and I are fighting ... when I take him outside he nibbles on my legs,
remember how he was jealous and started doing that in the video well ... Bob
will lay down with him in the yard, so Ruckus wants me to do the same. He'll try
to herd me to "the spot", then if I don't comply he'll nip me, not hard, trying
to get me to do as he wants. Then he'll get frustrated and nip me a little
harder. Today I'm going to take my spray bottle of water out with us, I bet he
won't do that again.
Sunday - March 8, 2009 10:00 PM Beautiful weather here, I worked hard all day WHEW!!! Mainly trying to keep the puppies fed and clean. lol lol I'm watching them like a hawk to nip unwanted behavior in the bud, etc. I'll try to take pictures tomorrow but I've got so much on my "TO DO" list that I can't promise anything. I'm on my way to bed, too tired for words. - Judy Saturday - March 7, 2009 7:15 PM DOB 1/31/09, CKC $1400, Estimated Release 03/28/09 From front to back Jack, Ginger, Eric

It's time to start seeds inside with artificial light and outside with plastic 2-3 ltr drink bottle, milk jug or clear plastic storage
tub covering for the chilly days or nights. Here is a listing of the
last frost dates across the USA for 2008.
Consult your seed packets and see how far in advance of the
last frost date that you need to start your seeds, most are
6 weeks BUT there is a big variation so if you are going to plant seeds, get with the planning NOW.
I don't plan on starting any seeds this year, I already have too much to do, but might change my mind. lol lol This is a picture of my seed growing setup which until today was used for wintering over plants. I'm really pushing the envelope .... we moved all the plants out onto the porches, I just could not stand it a moment longer. I figure if it turns off cold I'll just throw sheets over them or cover in plastic for the night. So now that the shelves are empty I may start some seeds or I might experiment with starting them outside under a plastic covering.
It's also time to build that little goldfish pool you always wanted. Mine, shown here in 2007, is more an aquatic
plant pool with goldfish swimming around. I got the goldfish at the bait shop because they
are healthier than those found in big box stores or pet shops. lol No Fuss, no muss and the goldfish actually mate
and have offspring. We clean and replace the liner about every 3 years, depending upon if a critter
has gotten in it and punched holes in the liner. When Bob first built it, (landscape timbers and
5 layers of construction black plastic) I was all the time
cleaning it until I got overwhelmed with other chores and that is when I discovered the fish
poo, rotting leaves, etc. made great fertilizer for my aquatic plants. I add water to it when it
gets low, removed tree limbs that fall into it, or if Bob overfeeds the fish I'll give it a
partial flush but that is just about it. Oh I did get a case of that old string algae once but
I just dipped it out, then it got so crowded with plants there wasn't enough sun for the algae
to grow. In the picture you will see the pipe for a fountain to aerate the water, but the filter
kept clogging so I disconnected it. The goldfish do just fine without it, but I have added Anacharis,
a fast growing oxygenating plant that floats just below the surface . It seems once I saw the goldfish
at the water surface gulping air so I put the water hose in turned down low in the front of the pool
flushing water out the overflow at the back, where the land slopes away from the pool. The overflow
is a cutdown section of about 1 inch on the second row of landscape timbers. The black plastic is
also stapled to the second row then the top row is put on to dress it up. The last re-lining we did
we didn't have enough black plastic so we used clear construction grade poly with an overlay of the
black, it seems to have lasted longer. "Playing Witch?" Thursday - March 5, 2009 5:00 PM I want to make it perfectly clear that this person is not related to me. lol lol Puppies are doing great but we gave up on separating Hope's litter, it was stressing them. I'll try in a week or so. If it continues to stress them, you all that are getting one of her pups will just have to put them in bed with you ... they love to snuggle. Reminder, if you are getting a puppy and want Iris starts let me know. - Judy Tuesday - March 3, 2009 4:30 PM Link To - Is this the world's ugliest cat? I'll vote that it is!! lol lol - Judy "Chilled Out" Monday - March 2, 2009 8:00 PM The sun came out and the snow mostly melted, remnants only are seen on the north side of trees on the ground, throughout the woods. Puppies are doing great. Sylvia didn't call to confirm which puppy she wanted so I'll have to push the point tomorrow, I was just too lazy to do so today. I hope you enjoyed the Iris picture page I posted above, they sure made me smile. - Judy "Snow" Sunday - March 1, 2009 10:00 AM It's amazing how an inch of snow blankets out all the normal noise from inside or outside the house. All critters are hold up in their dens, nests or other places they consider home, perhaps many are huddled together to stay warm. Not long ago Jeb signaled he was ready for another run outside. Earlier this morning after he had taken care of his business, Bob told him to come into the house, instead he went inside an open dog run and looked at Bob as if to say, "shut the gate and leave me here". Sammie was afraid of the snow and would not budge, she wanted Bob to pick her up. No way Sammie you weigh a ton. Rosie loved the snow. She bounded around and occasionally dipping her chin down during mid-stride to scoop up a mouth full. It would be a good day to sit by the fire and read a good mystery, but puppy poop and scouping out food for the critters awaits me. - Judy
