Puppy Gal Welcomes You ToJudy's Journal....I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us."Life is too short to deal with ugly acting people!" Thanks in part to our friend Dorothy who sent me an email of helpful information and to Bob's
kind nature, Blaze the Sun Conure is back in his/her crate after spending the night fifty feet up in an old oak tree. It was a 2 hour ordeal this morning,
but well worth it. It wanted to fly down on my head but was scared and so was I, Bob is the
bird person!! Bob quickly brought the cage closer to it's location, put food
from it, into his hand, extending it out to the parrot. Bob got Blaze to land on top of the
cage and started trying to get it to step up on his arm, etc. Blaze hadn't been afraid of me
but when I carried a small plant out to the porch, I scared it really bad, so back up into the
tree it went. I felt so bad. I stayed inside this time and
Bob was able to get it inside the cage!!!
We didn't let the Bullies out during this adventure, but the "stray dogs that came to stay" and the 2 cats were roaming around. You could almost hear them remind each other, "don't even look at Dad's bird or we're all in trouble"
Thursday - 03/29/2007 10:30 AM I can do lots of things; revive puppies, make plants grow and seeds to sprout and even at times help to mend broken hearts or to keep someone from jumping off a bridge, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get that parrot out of the tree. Accidents do happen and Blaze's cage got knocked over by one of the Bullies while we were gone yesterday, it escaped and flew out the door as we came in. Now he/she is out in one of the Oak trees calling to us but not about to come in. This is one situation that I don't think is going to end well, but we'll keep trying. - Judy Wednesday - 03/28/2007 10:30 PM In the hours just before dawn, I became aware of a stink bug crawling on my arm, what a way to wake up!! Living in the country is an adventure, every day!! The good thing is "stink bugs" don't bite, but they have that name for a reason. It wasn't long after that when Juliet, who appears to be pregnant, hearing me "exclaim" at the bug, started to whine to go out to potty, oops there goes Kate saying "me too" , Melanie started making noise and Cherry Pie wanted a bite of something good to eat. Jeb and Bob weren't having any part of waking up and I'm sure they were thinking these "girls" are crazy. Finally getting back into bed, I noticed it was 4:13 AM, normal people and pets are not up in the wee hours of the morning, but thanks to a stink bug we were. We're off to bed now. - Judy Tuesday - 03/27/2007 6:30 PM Lord Have Mercy it has been a true test of my determination, but I'm here to tell you that you can make it through almost anything if you just make up your mind to DO IT!!! I'm back and in fine spirits!!! I think I'm just about well and I swear I will never, ever eat anything but mushy stuff the rest of my life. It reminds me of a time years ago when the doctor scheduled me for surgery, 6 week out because my step-daughter was due to graduate college. By the time the critical date came, I had healed and he just could not believe it. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done but by golly I got 'er done. Hugs, prayers and positive thoughts being sent to you tonight. - Judy Saturday - 03/24/2007 10:30 AM It's going to be a nice day here and the forecast is for a high of 84F, that's Southern living for you, the temperatures just bounce all around. I've been eating enough to take antibiotics but am still afraid to eat much. The next time my face is all puffy, someone needs to remind me I'm retaining too much fluid and what I've been through. The pitiful part is all this started by me bending at the waist to pull up weeds from my flower beds ... it certainly makes me afraid to do that again or bend down to pickup Cherry, or to do much of anything, but I'll get past that soon. Have a wonderful weekend!! - Judy A Judy story ..... Years ago when the Internet was a baby, I had a horrible sinus infection. A friend who was a nurse called me, I told her I couldn't talk high fever, sinus infection etc. She said most people won't do this but if you will, I guarantee it will cure your infection in 24 hours, use a water/salt solution in your nose like you would for a gargle. Not having any idea as to proportions, I mixed it way too strong and the next hurdle was how to get it in my nose. My only exposure had been TV show where a person snorts drugs. Now there is a difference in powder and liquid but remember I had a high temp. I got a spoon, filled it full of the saline mixture, put it right up to the nostril and snorted ..... Lord Have Mercy, talk about burning!! But I was determined so I did the same thing to the other nostril. 24 hours later I no longer had a sinus infection, nor have I had one since, because if there is any indication of one, I'm snorting!! I hope my story at least made you smile and please encourage everyone you know to use a properly proportioned saline spray or better yet the "neti pot" which is much more comfortable and convenient. http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/sinus/sinus-allergies.html Other sinus infection prevention tips from the article: 1. "Take a hot shower" or lean "over a hot bowl of water with towel draped over your head". 2. "Firmly massage your feet or hands for five minutes, 2-3 times a day." 3. Exercise. "Take a leisurely 20-min. walk around the block once a day." Research shows that "exercising can work as quickly and effectively as taking an antihistamine." Plus, you‘ve got the added bonus that outdoor air "contains 75% fewer sinus-irritating particles." Friday - 03/23/2007 1:00 PM From Bob: ABC news has learned the source of the pet food poison-- Go to Pet Connection to learn more and report any problems that you may have encountered! It has been reported that 15 or 16 pet deaths have occurred but the website has reports of hundreds (1,000+)! This is despicable! Thursday - 03/22/2007 10:00 AM Whew, glad that is over!!! I didn't feel 100% Sunday or Monday so I kept a check on my temperature and blood pressure, they were normal, then Tuesday morning not long after I made the entry here, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have a high pain threshold so when I hurt I pay attention. Severe pain lowest part of my torso, left side must be the colon and if so it had to be impacted. My temperature was 101F so I took antibiotics and asked Bob to make a 3 hr round trip to get me some red wine, if that nasty stuff won't clear a blockage, nothing will, also it would knock out the pain and reduce fever, (found that out by searching the Internet). While Bob was gone, my temperature started rising FAST just as it hit 103F. I remembered he had bought a bottle of 6% Merlot at the grocery store over the weekend to drink with a steak dinner he was planning for himself (I don't eat steak). I carefully went downstairs got it and brought it back upstairs. Within minutes I was in a COLD shower drinking the wine from the bottle. I now have a new etiquette rule, it is permissible to drink from the bottle if one is fairly certain the alternative is to "meet one's maker". So the good news is, I think I finally know what is causing the high temperature, which makes my body, especially joints, hurt so badly. Another point is, no wonder the doctors couldn't find out what was wrong, I hadn't experienced pain there or had any other symptoms. Now you are wondering why in the world I didn't go to the emergency room at a hospital. No insurance, premiums too high especially since I've had cancer twice. If I had gone to the ER they would have probably taken steps to knock out the pain, remove the blockage and control the infection, only their methods would not have been as gentle, I might not have been seen for hours and by that time at the rate my temperature was climbing it might have been too late, plus my hospital bill would have been so TOO high. Yes they will let you make payments but I could hardly afford payments that high. I've always paid my debts and would feel honor bound to do so, therefore my soul would be compromised because I could not pay. I'm taking it REAL easy and plan on just drinking Ensure for a few days. I'm smiling and happy so please don't worry. - Judy Wednesday - 03/21/2007 2:30 PM Sorry, I'm in the middle of one of my episodes, high fever and aching so bad I can't walk. I'll be back as soon as it passes. - Judy Tuesday - 03/20/2007 8:00 AM I need to get out and stretch my legs, walk on a smooth, even surface, with a credit card in hand. LOL LOL I'm just kidding, but my back is all stoved up from doing a tad too much yesterday, so Bob suggested I go to town and walk around Wal-Mart. I can't think of a thing I want or need to buy, so I wrinkled my nose at the idea. The Big Hill Pond recreational area is close, about 10 miles away, so that is doable ... but I would have to throw a fishing line in the water so better not go there and do that. Maybe I'll just walk up and down the staircase a few times to see if it helps. I woke up in the middle of the night therefore checked my emails. A really nice lady who had 2 of our Bullies, passed away. I'm absorbing this tragedy a little at a time, so I'll post the email from her daughter in a few days. Liz another owner of one of our "babies" has been accepted by two colleges and we are so proud for her. I'll also post that email in a day or so. We've got lots of decisions to make in reference to landscaping and then have to get someone with the proper heavy equipment to give estimates, etc., but first I'm going to walk up and down the steps to see if I can get this kink out of my back. Have a good day! - Judy Monday - 03/19/2007 2:30 PM Interesting recipe I found for Bully Beef (Jamaican), just so happens we had this while in the Bahamas and my duplication of the Firehouse Breakfast is much simpler than this recipe. ( http://chitterlings.com/02oct02.html#Bully%20Beef ) Bully Beef a.k.a Firehouse Breakfast 1 can corned beef 1 medium onion, chopped or sliced 1/4 minced garlic from a jar or a small section from a fresh garlic 1/4 teaspoon dried leaf thyme 1/2 can omatoes with chilies, depend upon the brand you may need to use it all, taste and see 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, if needed, the corned beef might contain enough fat. Heat corned beef in a heavy non-stick frying pan, moderate heat. Push beef to one side, tilt skillet to judge the amount of grease from the beef, add vegetable oil if not enough. Add thyme, onions, garlic and sauté until last two items are limp Mash tomatoes & chilies with your hands then add and stir together Turn down heat to low and watch so that it does not burn. Bully Beef is usually served for breakfast with grits, toast and a fried egg. Some like the egg cooked on top of the Bully Beef, if you do this, just scoop out a place for each egg, add and cook with the lid on to hasten the cooking. Use paper towels to absorb the extra vegetable oil, if any. Monday - 03/19/2007 8:14 AM The Dog & Cat food recall is serious and lots of people are really getting upset. I don't know anyone personally who has had a pet to die, but know some who are "holding their breath". We've always given "our gang" canned Pedigree Puppy Food if I didn't have anything cooked to add to their kibble. The last can I opened smelled really odd to me so Bob and I decided to hold off feeding the remaining cans, then this recall came about. I've read Pedigree is NOT included in the recall, but I'm going to cook them turkey until the dust settles. I take all parts except the breast, deboned and remove any fatty parts, then make chunky turkey gravy with the meat and broth. I guarantee they will be happy to get "mama made" gravy. We checked the long range forecast and we're due to get 15 days of wonderful weather, so out the plants go!!! It's hard work and takes a long time, but at least we will be able to walk around without snagging a plant limb. Yesterday was my Chef Judy Day. I didn't do anything but cook, cook and cook. Pork roast in the crockpot with my special blend of spices (garlic salt, black pepper, basil, thyme, parsley and a tad of sugar). I make this up in a pint jar which is about 1/3 full when I finish. I coat the bottom, sides and top, by rolling the roast in some of the mixture which I have place on a large plate. The remainder I put on top of the roast once it is in the crockpot. When it is done, I rake off the top layer of spice since it is too much for the amount of broth that is left. I cook it until the large meat fork can pierce half way through the roast. We eat BBQ sandwich, just sprinkle dry BBQ seasoning on the meat once it is on the bread or use bottle BBQ sauce. I cook potatoes and carrots in the pork broth, then take them out and make gravy with the broth. It goes without saying that "our gang" gets the leftovers if there are any. lol lol I cooked Bruschetta (Eggplant,Mushroom & Tomato) which we ended up eating for Brunch: bread then a layer of mozzarella cheese, layer of Bruschetta, another layer of cheese, broiled in the oven. So very good!! After that I made Pasta Sauce to have on hand for homemade pizzas, meatball sandwiches or over pasta. At this point I had to quit cooking or it would be going straight to the dogs since the refrigerator was FULL!! I keep telling Bob we need a second one, but he just laughts. In addition to my daily chores, I must clean flower beds, thin out some plants, plant the new bulbs, etc today, yesterday was just too windy. That does sound wildly over the edge doesn't it. lol lol - Judy PS I forgot to tell you I cooked a big pot of Cranberry Beans, my favorite variety of dried beans, with a ham hock and also a pot of Chinese Red Beans, tiny little things. The only recipes I could find for them were "sweet soup" oops I don't do sugar so they got the same treatment as the other beans except I added crushed dry red pepper, minced garlic and dried onion flakes. See why we need a second refrigerator!!! Sunday - 03/18/2007 9:30 AM From Bob:
-- This is Melanie, a German Shepherd rescue from the Hardeman County, TN, Animal Shelter.
She is doing great in her new home, here with us! Well, she did let out a bark at the Mr. Cat when he wandered through
the open kitchen door to see the new addition... Melanie ignores the bulldogs for some reason... (no nose?)
Cherry Cookie is our bundle of joy... always cheerful and wanting to play. If I wander into her area and forget to say 'Good Morning' she reminds me with a 'bark'... She's still available which is surprising because she's gorgeous and so gentle! $1200 unregistered. Here are some photos from this morning:
Showtime For The Puppies!Click here for video - no audio!![]() Click here for better visual version with audio ... Bob tricked me, I didn't know the audio was on! Sunday - 03/18/2007 5:30 AM Claustrophobic, I started clearing out "stuff". A loaf of "healthy" bread that neither one of us liked was the first item to go. I tossed it out in the yard for the birds and was totally surprised that the "strays that came to stay" starting eating it. Mercy, it tastes like expanded cardboard. A quick check of their bowl assured me they had plenty of food, so I was confused. A little later when I reached for the Wal-Mart brand 9 Grain Bread to make toast, I realized I had accidently tossed it out to the birds, no wonder the dogs were eating it!! That did it, we didn't have bread, there was no cream for coffee and the house was so full of plants we had trouble getting around. Bob and I went to town for breakfast, then to Wal-Mart for bread and cream. While walking in Wal-Mart, I was so excited I had to keep asking Bob to watch me walk, the movement was smooth, almost fluid, well maybe off just a tad, but so much better than it has been. I credit the improvement to exercise and diet supplements plus another element. I use to be able to walk 5 miles on a smooth surface, but out here in the country there are no
sidewalks and walking the roads are dangerous because they are either gravel or blacktop which are curvy and there are so many drivers that exceed the speed limit. This picture was actually taken of Dingo, the wild dog, but I posted it so you could see what I was talking about in
reference to gravel drive and roads. It's almost 6 AM, it's taken me longer to write this entry than I would have thought. I blame that on the fact that Bob is still laying in the bed snoring so I haven't had my morning coffee. lol lol Take care and tell your loved ones how you feel. - Judy Saturday - 03/17/2007 6:30 AM Yesterday afternoon we picked up the van, the solenoid and starter had to be replaced... yuck $330 later and it's doing just fine. After we got back home, the plants we had moved out on the porches had to be moved back into the house because the predicted low for this morning was 30F, it's now 31F. They would have suffered damage if not killed had we left them out, but we were so tired that it was tempting. Melanie, the rescued German Shepherd, is constantly looking for something or someone. I told Bob it makes me sad because I believe it is "her someone", previous owner. Maybe given some time one of us will become her "other someone" and she will stop looking.
Jeb got pouty yesterday and just sit down when Bob was taking him on his walk. lol lol He wanted
off the lead so he could charge around, but we were rushing so we would have time to go get the
van. I walked over and took the lead from Bob and Jeb was happy again. He can be one pouty brat
... such a lovable pouty brat. lol lol Prayers and positive thoughts going out to Georgine, she's to stop taking all meds in preparation for her radiation treatment, which will last 4-6 weeks. She will be in isolation and away from the computer since the radiation will contaminate it.
The sky is beginning to lighten up just a little so within minutes "our gang" will start
waking up and wanting to "go outside" all at the same time, oh my what a confusion that
causes. Unless it's fairly warm downstairs they will want to stay snug in their
crates, until it gets warmer. Some we just turn loose out in the yard and some we walk
on leads. At times Bubba, 13 years old and very frail,
must be carried out and put in the electric cart so he can be transported to an outside
run to do his business. If that happens, Jeb insists upon a ride just to show he's
special also. Jeb get out of my plants!!! That's not the picture I meant to display but it
sure is cute so I'll leave it. lol lol
If you feed wet dog food, I hope you all are keeping up with the canned and pouched dog food recall. All I've read so far is that it could include IAMS, Eukanuba, Kroger and big box brands. This type of thing makes me want to cook for "our gang" but there is no way I could do that. There is supposed to be more information released today. We're off to see if we can nudge them to go out so we can "get on" with today's chores. - Judy Friday - 03/16/2007 10:30 AM I feel so lucky, I was at just the right place to experience the thrill of seeing sparklers across the surface of the pond, the wind blown water and position of the sun created this fantasy. While walking out of the kitchen into the living room, the flashing light caught my attention and held me spellbound for the few minutes that it lasted. The experience was so unexpected, yet I knew I only had moments to enjoy, not enough time to call to Bob share the beauty. Friday - 03/16/2007 8:00 AM Mercy, it's chilly outside; light rain, 45F with winds around 15 miles per hour. Neither Bob nor "our gang" wanted to be outside. The first set were too anxious to get back in so we're delaying, walking the others. Bob's ears also have to warm. I can't get him to wear a hat or gloves no matter what I say.
Friday - 03/16/2007 5:30 AM Oh My I have the house upside down and inside out; lid-on clear plastic containers holding Christmas colored small punch plastic cups with holes made by a heated screwdriver, filled with non-soil seed sprouting mixture, planted with either Datura or hardy hibiscus seeds are everywhere; on top of all three computer monitors plus on top of the refrigerator because they need bottom heat to sprout, others with seeds not needing bottom heat are sitting in windows since the over-hanging porch prevents them from getting too hot when the sun comes out. Laying on all the kitchen counter space are packets, packets and packets of SEEDS.
We had moved some plants outside which ONLY provided more space for me to start the seeds but MERCY
it's going down to a predicted 31F tonight so all the plants must come back inside, if it dips
any further I'm afraid it will kill them all. Fortunately, I remembered to bring the Orchids
inside last night. Seeds!!??!! I don't need more plants but the seeds are there and, and, and...
Yesterday morning we met a friend I hadn't seen in 30 years for breakfast, we had fun and felt free in calling a "time-out" when a subject came up that one of us had rather not discuss. Laughter is good for the soul.
I've finished the coffee Bob so sweetly brought up stairs for me to sip on while I wrote this
entry, now it's time to start the day. I hear Cherry calling and it's about daylight which means
"our gang" needs to go for a walk. Now where did I put the liquid sublingual B-Complex, fancy
words for absorbed in the mouth, that I take every morning followed by a couple of more supplements.
Oh, the hyaluronic acid and I are still staring at each other. - JudyPS The pictures are of Daturas I've grown before. Thursday - 03/15/2007 7:20 AM Up and running, we've got a list of Must Do's a mile long, but I am so thankful that I'm physically able to work hard and put in some long hours. I've got so many plants to pull out of winter storage, clean up after, prune and repot. Plus it's time for "our gang" to get their monthly wormer, yearly shots and general grooming. BUT before all this I must map out new dog run positions and get cost estimates on driveway gravel and leveling.... and the list goes on. I'll be back later when we take a brunch break. - Judy PS Yesterday the starter when out on the van while Bob was at the vet's office. He had the van towed to our mechanic and I had to go get he and Jazzman in my vintage (20 years old) Volvo. She runs great and will be getting a facelift sometime this Summer. Wednesday - 03/14/2007 9:15 AM Back again... after reading the below entry, Bob said "you have to tell them you were having trouble with your vision this morning". We were up and Bob was working hard, taking the dogs out, etc. I told him just as soon as I could focus my eyes I would cook some breakfast. I went on to tell him it was like my eyes weren't responding together, so maybe I just needed a cup of coffee. Coffee in hand I sat down to create the below entry, but there was no way. As I said to Bob, It's like my glasses are dirty and I took them off to check for smears. The right lens was missing!! lol lol We had one of those belly giggling, even if you're skinny, types of laughing episodes. I found the lens under my tiny pillow, where I store my glasses just before dropping off to sleep, he put it back in and all was right with my vision. He promised to never remind me of the happening, but from now on when he starts to laugh under his breath I'll know. I hope that made you laugh, it certainly did us. Wednesday - 03/14/2007 8:30 AM
Updated picture that we took yesterday before bringing her home. It had been raining so
their outside runs were a little muddy. She's a bit hyper and with good reason, she's been
with lots of crazy acting dogs, now she's in a new environment where there are critters
running around free, but she isn't. She's not been fed the way I feed mine,
always a pan of kibble if they want a snack. I feel this keeps them from being anxious for
food, therefore there is no aggression between them over food. That reminds me I'm going
to have to explain that to Fluffy who is Queen Bee around here and has decided lately that
all the food is hers. lol lol
My plans for today are to take updated pictures of Cherry. For those of you who know me well, it will not be a surprise that I'm having a hard time letting go of her. It's always this way with the last pup from a litter, but I would really like to keep her cause she's going to be so small and Oh My is she sweet!!! The weather forecast for our area keeps changing, now the low for Saturday night is predicted to be 35F, that's getting a little too close to freezing for me to be real comfortable so we are preparing to bring in the plants on Saturday if the prediction holds. I'm off to get some work done ... gosh it feels good to feel this good!!! Have a Wonderful Day, rejoice in who you are and be thankful for those who love you!! - Judy Tuesday - 03/13/2007 9:30 PM Well Melanie has a home, with us. lol lol She's a small size German Shepherd (positive point for me), training needs serious work but she's a NICE dog and has great potential. Her caretaker was really serious in reference to the heartworm treatment. She said she had seen too many dogs die from the standard treatment and strongly advised instead giving her heartguard for 12 months then have her rechecked. I'll have to discuss this with our vet. Wish me luck, 3 stray dogs that came to stay, 2 offspring of a feral cat who were born under our porch and the Bullies, will be a challenge for her. Whew I'm tired. I woke up at 2 AM thinking of all the negatives about getting her therefore I couldn't go back to sleep. Judy Tuesday - 03/13/2007 7:30 AM Yesterday is a blur, because it was too active around here. It was a fine day for working outside and basically that is what we did. Update on Melanie: Arrangements are being made, she isn't going to be "put down". She is in foster care right now. I found out she is 5 years old and her case of heartworms is "mild", therefore the treatments shouldn't be the full $500. I'll update more as the situation unfolds. Sunday we went with my friend Bonnie & her husband on the "plant rescue" mission. There are so many plants, that it is overwhelming. I shook my head thinking we could never rescue all of them and the public can't be invited in to take what they want due to the liability, insurance and all of that. At least they aren't mine, therefore I'm not responsible for them or I would have to rescue all of them. I can't believe the number of Iris we brought back with us and I have no idea as to what kind they are. This is my schedule for this morning; clean up Cherry's pool and hug on her awhile, help Bob walk "our gang", cook breakfast, plant some of the Iris and all the while keep the washing machine and dryer running. Whew, just makes me tired thinking about it. - Judy
Sunday - 03/11/2007 7:15 AM Did Daylight Savings Time confuse you this morning?? It did me. I woke up at what would have been my normal time, around 5:30 AM to find it was already 6:30 AM and I felt I should rush to makeup the lost time. Other time changes haven't had any impact on me at all, but this one surely has.
Bob told the Hardeman Co. Animal Control that we
would take Melanie if she wasn't adopted by her "time up date". They also know we are trying
to get donations to pay some or all of her medical expenses so that should make her more appealing
to someone wanting to adopt, plus I got an email from an Internet friend who wants to know more
about her. You will note above that Priscilla of Collierville who has two of our Bullies donated
$100 toward her heartworm treatments.
The weather has done an about-face here and we're definitely into Spring. The high today is supposed to be 69F and tomorrow the high is forecasted to be 76F. We're about to start moving all the plants outside and I surely hope we won't have another freeze, Doggone it would be tough moving them all back inside. Oops I have to clean off the porches before I can start moving everything out.
I hope you have a lazy peaceful day. Please remember to pray for our friend Georgine
who is facing her third bout with cancer. - JudyPS The above pictures of me were taken by Bob when we went on the "plant rescue" scouting mission. I wouldn't post them before because I look like Miss Piggy, but I got over feeling that way. I was pretty much idle for almost 5 months but now I'm shaking and moving so the weight should come off pretty quickly.... I hope!!! Melanie-turned into Animal Control, needs heartworm treatments ($500). She only has 3 days to live, as of 3/10/07, unless she is adopted or the heartworm treatments are started!!!
Please help us by making donations for her treatments. Use the PayPal Icon on the Table of Conents listed on the right side of this page. Mark your donation "Melanie". - Judy A great big Thank You ... 3/10/07 Received $100 from Priscilla of Collierville,TN I have the new supplement, Hyaluronic Acid, sitting on my desk looking at me, looking at me, looking at me. I think I'll let Bob try it on Bubba first ... aren't I a "chicken". You would not believe the activity here .... During a telephone conversation regarding the Friends of Animal Control website, the other person started asking questions and sure enough she is a long lost friend. That was right after I discussed the possibility of getting a medium size greenhouse from another friend. lol lol Oh Mercy, there is a wonderful, German Shephard who has been turned over to animal control. She has heart worms and I just can't stand to see her put down. I called the vet's office to get the price on the treatment and it's roughly $500. Do you think people would donate to the cause? I'm such a soft touch, I will be thinking and dreaming about this poor dog. - Judy Friday - 03/09/2007 10:00 AM I was up and going at 5 AM but mostly I was at my computer sending pictures to a friend of "her family owned" property in our area. She is a plantnut and I had the pleasure of telling her it was a "Plant JackPot". I took pictures for her and as best I could told her what all was there ... lots of OLD plants of all descriptions and some new. We're trying to arrange a trip to help her dig out and pot the plants, so I'm repeating to myself all day ... one or two bulbs are OK, but not a trunk load. I've got many bulbs to plant outside now and certainly don't need anymore, but that's like saying "no" to a "wino", they won't pay any attention to what you say. lol lol I've been working hard on combining files and programs so that I can work from two computers. I don't want to delete any email files, because I will receive an email from someone, remember the name but can't recall why. Since I've kept all the emails, I can do a search to review the prior communication. BUT all those emails take a good deal of storage room. Then there are the pictures, I have thousands upon thousands of "our gang" multiples of all the pups we've ever had plus pictures of "our life". I can't throw any of those away, even if I'm not using most or them, there is always the possibility I might want to or need to do so. lol lol Yes I'm a packrat!! We're getting closer to a Audio Judy's Journal. We bought additional supplies yesterday so hopefully everything will go smoothly now. Bob took care of Cherry earlier this morning but when I went down later she barked at me as if to say, "where have you been", so I'm off to give her the tender loving she deserves. She's so mild mannered but is going to be a little demanding, which I love. Remember you can't teach a pig to sing, but hounddog howling is music to some people's ears. - Judy Oh My, I'm not sure that last part makes any sense. Thursday - 03/08/2007 9:00 AM Yesterday afternoon about 5 PM I started to get tired, at 7:30 PM I crawled into bed and didn't get up until 7:15 AM this morning. I'm learning to listen to my body and do what it wants instead of pushing myself to get "things done", I now believe the body will get back at you if don't do as it wants. We're creating a website for the "Friends" of the local animal control, to raise money for a new animal housing facility, place puppies, notify the public of the animals that have been picked up and provide the residents of our community with online ability to list their animal that are "Lost". I have a "friend in need" who lives in Oklahoma. I sent her a blouse and a sweater last week to see if they would fit, they did and she loved both the style and colors. I have additional items that are too big for me that still have the tags on them, so I'm in the process of gathering them up and will be sending her a box in the next few days. My desire is to be her friend and make her smile; her only income is from babysitting and she has major health problems. She's not healthy enough to deal with bratty children but has no choice. I've got to work on a space issue with my computer before I can post more pictures, so I best be off to do that. Thought for today, "If we smile at those around us, it will brighten everyone's day." - Judy Wednesday - 03/07/2007 9:30 AM The topper to yesterday's email problems was an email from some "fool" who said they wanted one of my puppies so they could kill it!! I've been up and going since 4:30 AM, doing a little of this and a little of that, ended up doing research in relation to stiff joints, dry skin and brittle hair which ended up in me ordering a new supplement, it's suppose to replace Hyaluronic Acid production which the body produces less of as we age ... well it sounded good at the time. lol lol Bob wanted to know if I thought it would help Bubba, the white 13 year old male that we thought we were going to lose a few months back. Bubba is real interested in the female Bullies, but is too "stoved up" to get around good. I told him if it worked on me we'd buy Bubba his own supply. lol lol Cherry Cookie is a delight. She's a little timid but quickly recovers to be a "sassy gal". I don't have any reason to tell her "no" but if I did I'm sure she would respond with a sassy bark, just like my beloved Sassy T who passed away last year. She would give me a look as if to say, humans are so hard to train. I've got a million things on the "to do list", so I better get to moving. - Judy Tuesday - 03/06/2007 1:00 PM I have to admit that this hacker was real smart, they sent an email asking a question about "rose ears", I responded, then they sent a "deadly" thank you. I worked at trying to resolved the problem all morning, then finally asked Bob to look over my shoulder. My Mail Washer program went into a snit about 10 times but finally was able to overcome the code the hacker was trying to send to my computer and allowed me to delete the email. WHEW!!! I'm exhausted now, I got so nervous. I was backing up files, moving files to another disc and even to another computer, in an attempt to preserve the PuppyGal data. I'm going to chill out by reading a book. - Judy
Tuesday - 03/06/2007 5:30 AM I responded to emails last night until I was exhausted and my email software went into a snit, the proper word I suppose is "stopped responding". When I tried it earlier this morning after a reboot, it was still broken. I suppose I'll have to do a "reinstall", now to find the disc. lol lol This plant is Philodendron Rojo Congo. I'm so thrifty under normal circumstances I wouldn't have paid the higher dollars for a big plant but would have gotten a smaller one to "grow out" myself, but I looked at this one a second and third time. I can divide it into 3 plants, so that is just $5 per plant. I'm on my way to filling up the porches for the summer. I love a viney plant filled feel to the porches. It's time to go make coffee and plan out the day's activities. So much catch up work to do. - Judy Monday - 03/05/2007 2:00 PM Just wanted to let you know I have 52 emails to answer. I've read them all to make sure there wasn't an emergency, thankfully there weren't. I'm be answering them tonight hopefully. Monday - 03/05/2007 Noon After Bob read my entry for today, he suggested I tell you why I've been doing and going, buying plants, seeds and other stuff, so here it is. From September 2006 until the middle of last month (February 2007), I had only been out of the house 5 times and 2 of those were to give away plants I knew I would not be able to hold over during the winter, because I was feeling badly. I missed celebrating Thanksgiving, my Birthday, Christmas and New Years and now that I'm feeling good, I want to spread my wings and fly around a little, but not over-do. Monday - 03/05/2007 8:45 AM
She who has had long hair all her life, got it bobbed yesterday. That's right, we went to
the hair cutting center at Wal-Mart and when it was my turn I said I need a short easy to
care for "do". I'm still getting use to it but I think I'll like it. Bob took this picture
to use as wallpaper on his computer, so I decided to post it for you all to see. Maybe
he'll take a better one in a few days.
As you may have guessed, I'm in the process of changing our lifestyle. I'm taking Zinc for my skin and hair. My skin is dry and I hate the feel of lotion. My doctor told me to use anything; vegetable oil, shorting, mineral oil and more or less take a bath in it. I've been giving that some thought meanwhile I found a spray bottle of dry oil which suits me very well. While waiting at Wal-Mart to get my hair cut, we bought all sorts of "fresh vegetables" to cook. I think they make you wait so you'll go off shopping until it's your turn .. there and at their pharmacy also. When we stopped by the Asian Market in Memphis on Saturday, we bought Chayto Squash reputed to be good for high blood pressure. I bought 6 and 2 of them I'm going to try to grow. They are a perennial and must have a long hot growing period, so I thought if this summer is like the last one, maybe I can grow it here. I had bought one at Wal-Mart to cook to see if we liked them and we did. I pan fried them, lid on, with sweet onion in a tad of butter. I was going to get Bitter Melons because they are reputed to lower the blood sugar level, but they didn't look fresh. I got 6 small Taro bulbs not to eat but to plant, I like their foliage. In addition, we got Napa Cabbage, Bean Sprouts, a large bag of Baby Spinach, Long Purple Eggplant, Daikon (long white radish) and 2-3 bundles of unknown vegetables. lol lol I was following behind a middle aged Asian lady and she kept trying to tell me what things were and how to use them, but I couldn't understand her so I just got whatever she did. Come to think of it, she might have been telling me not to follow along behind her, but if so she did it with a smile. lol lol I'm going to take pictures of the "unknowns" to email to a friend from the Philippines, she said she probably uses them and will be glad to advise. The poor lady's son, resident of a southern Philippine island, died recently and she is terribly upset. I'm off to put away groceries, but I think I've run out of room. lol - Judy Sunday - 03/04/2007 6:30 PM As you can see below, Bob resized and posted the pictures he took yesterday. I was so tired I went to bed. Awake at 5 AM, I just laid in bed trying not to wake Bob but finally I couldn't help myself, I sneaked downstairs got Cherry Cookie, brought her upstairs and into the bed with Bob. She sniffed his breath and snuggled in for a nap. Doggone, I was being devilish and thought for sure she would start licking his face and he would be forced to get up. lol They looked so comfy that I was tempted to join them, instead I went to the kitchen and made coffee. We're going to make today a lazy day since it's 24F outside and none of the critters wants to go out for a walk, neither did Big Bob!! - Judy Saturday - 03/03/2007 6:30 PM
We met Jennifer and Tom at the Memphis Airport for Puppy PickUp. I was so pleased with
meeting them, I was instantly assured that they were wonderful people and will make
great puppy parents. Those of you who have one of our puppies, know how picky I am!! Next Bob told me it was my day and anything I wanted to do was exactly what he wanted us to do. Yes I did, I went to all the big box stores and bought plants. lol lol I'll take pictures tomorrow to share with you.
In the middle of all of this we went to an Asian Grocery store for all sorts of goodies,
then to a sushi bar for lunch, I don't eat sushi but they had other things on the menu. I
got Japanese egg rolls and fried rice, my favorite items. I also nibbled on Bob's "box
lunch" which was very tasty but I didn't go near the raw stuff. It's been a long day filled with emotions, these pups were hard for me to let go and then a fantasy plant shopping trip. I love my Big Daddy, plants and critters. P.S. When we got home, little Cherry Cookie was feeling so alone... But, after dining on Puppy Chow mush with a water chaser, she climbed up on her Teddy and fell asleep... only to stir when Big Daddy snapped a couple of photos. - Judy
Saturday - 03/03/2007 6:00 AM I'll be back to post pictures that I'm going to take in just a minute. These Sugar Babies are oh so cute!!! I'm going to make this day a good one and hope you can also. - Judy Friday - 03/02/2007 1:30 PM We've heard from Mary, she and her family are fine although it was a very close call. Friday - 03/02/2007 7:15 AM We are deeply concerned about our friend Mary and her family who live in Enterprise AL. We sent an email to her last night asking if they were alright, but haven't heard from her yet. We're fine, just got a gully washer rain. A line of thunderstorms that were could have created tornadoes were coming straight toward us and 40 miles away ... when all of a sudden they split and went around us. The worst part moved into Middle Tennessee. We surely were tense watching the radar as that massive line of storms moved from Baton Rouge, LA, and up through Mississippi, heading straight for us. I'm going to spend part of today working on the website. Love the one you're with!! - Judy Thursday - 03/01/2007 8:40 AM Doggone!!! March is coming on like a Lion for sure. I just hope I don't hear the mighty roar. Here is our forecast for today... Tornado Watch in effect until 6 PM CST... scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect west Tennessee... north Mississippi...and portions of northeast Arkansas this morning. Through 9 am CST...the heaviest concentration of precipitation will be over north Mississippi. Small hail...gusts to 45 miles an hour... and rainfall rates at an inch an hour are all possible with the thunderstorms. Otherwise...rainfall will be a quarter of an inch or less in showers.
