I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails,
therefore, I probably tell too much,
but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.

.... 5 more days until the first possible delivery date. Smart Cookie looks as if she is going to have 5-6 puppies which we believe is the ideal litter size, Bob is afraid there will be more. Happy isn't as big so I'm guessing she will have 3-4 "babies".

I didn't stay in bed all day yesterday, but after doing the chores that just had to be done, I laid down and read for an hour then went to my favorite plant website, www.ncfarmsinc.com (North Carolina Farms, Charleston NC), to dream. So many things I would like to do ...

Speaking of dreaming, on the way back from meeting Brynn to deliver Cinnamon, we stopped at a nursery north of Jackson, TN, on Hwy 45 Bypass, which was the most delightful I have ever visited. The owner is Dutch and imported an extremely large, totally computerized greenhouse, which for me is "to die for". The word "greenhouse, conjures up feelings of the ideal climate which is far from true for most greenhouses, but fits this one perfectly.

Michelle, Thank You, for taking the time to send us the following timely information.

......On another veterinary-type note... I thought you might be interested in knowing about Wyatt's new development. We took him to the vet, because he had two small patches of thinning hair on his sides. I, of course, thought the worst and was ready for anything. The vet took one look at his balding spots and recognized it immediately as Seasonal Flank Alopecia. We did the usual skin scrape and fungal culture, just to rule out other things, but all were negative as expected. Dr. Levitas said that SFA is a common problem among Boxer and Bulldog breeds. It simply means that due to hormonal changes associated with changing light cycles, etc. in the spring of the year, the dog looses some hair in his flank areas. The skin underneath is not affected, and the dog experiences absolutely no discomfort. The hair will fill back in about a month or so. Much to my excitement.. the treatment for SFA is DO NOTHING. We just keep the exposed skin healthy and moisturized. YEAH! I thought this might be useful info to some of the other bully owners, since we have a very knowledgeable vet who is experienced at treating bulldogs. I know that if I lived in an area where I was not fortunate enough to have access to this kind of care, I would have let someone less experienced talk me into all kinds of unnecessary treatments.

If I had the energy, I would take a walk on the wildside today ... at the Memphis Zoo. (lol lol) Shake off the dreary day and make things happen - Judy

Sunday - 03/14/04 - 9:00 AM CST

Gus, the parakeet, has turned into a "GuardBird". During the day when we are in the room with him, he only makes low murmuring sounds, but squawked like a fool on three occasions in the middle of the night. Once, I was awake and heard the noise right before he started yelling!! Bob just shook his head and said, "Everything tries to protect you". While that may be true, Gus is going to be moved out of the bedroom this morning!! Jelly has just started to let us sleep through the night, now he starts up. One thing for sure, I have to have my sleep or I get real grouchy!!

We've been outside walking the Bullies in the rain, I have a slight headache from not getting enough sleep, I've got a ton of unanswered emails, the house needs to be cleaned and plants watered. As you can see, I was forced into formulating a plan....it's back to bed for me. (lol lol) ....7 days until the first possible delivery date. - Judy

Go Jelly Belly!!! Go Jelly Belly!!!

Now that she has found her tongue, she won't put it up!! She is, oh so very cute. Along with her tongue, she is finding her personality, before she was just a "baby", but now she's growing older by the hour. It's like she's on fast forward. Last night instead of doing her "kit kat howl" at me to pick her up, she actually barked to get my attention, too cute. As you can tell from these pictures she's also gaining weight. She's still "at risk", but we are feeling so much better about her ability to survive.

Yesterday, I made my rounds to buy dog food, 12 - 37.5 pound bags, and shopped the local grocery stores but didn't find any meat on "special" that I could use to feed "our gang". However, when I stopped by the butcher shop for 10 lbs of their wonderful, made in-house sausage, they gave me a big bag of bones. (We bake big beef bones in the oven at 275 for 3 hours before the Bullies get them). We add seasoning to the sausage to make Italian Sausage Sandwiches. We cook patties until done, place them on the bottom half of a nice bun, spread pasta sauce over the top, cover with Mozzarella cheese and broil in the oven until the cheese melts. So much for that diet...

I hope you are having a great weekend...8 more days until the first possible delivery date - Judy

Friday - 03/12/04 - 6:00 AM CST

It is going to be a beautiful day here, sunny with a high in the mid 50's!!! Tonight is suppose to be 28, but we'll not let that take away from the pleasant day!!!

This is Eve, Daughter of Brooks & Buster DOB 3/7/02. Poor baby had a rough start in that she was placed in a home where they did not feed her a puppy formulated food. We believe that is the reason her head is out of proportion with her body. When we discovered she was not being fed properly we brought her back home. She has been bred to Bizkit cause he has a big head.
More Pictures of Eve!

Jelly has found her tongue!!!! Heretofore she was not used it very much at all. Nan, our friend who will probably be Jelly's new mama, had given Bob some suggestions on how to get her using it to improve upon the swallowing process and it worked! Now she's licking at her food, licking the air and even licked my hand.

The Dingo has roused up "our gang" so now they "have to go". My goal for today is to get my chores completed, then do something special for Bob & I, maybe a gourmet dinner. Speaking of which, "gourmet" does NOT equal a long time in the kitchen. Have a good weekend - Judy

Peanut - 15 Months Old Here comes Peanut, a.k.a "Jumpin Jack Flash".
More Pictures of Peanut!

Isn't he beautiful. He's so special that he inspires Bob to write the children's stories about him. Bronson & Alec Wood, our young friends, refer to him as "Mr. Crooked Jaw" and although he isn't show quality, he will endear any heart and after all isn't that what really matters to most of us.

The three pregnant females are doing well. We're into the daily count down with the first possible delivery date being 3/21....only 10 more days to get ready!!!! I've got lots of things I need to get done by then, so I best get off this computer and get busy.

Yesterday, while doing my chores, tears fell down my cheeks as I thought about a person I love, who is incapable of loving me back. This morning I gave Thanks to the Good Lord, for the wonderful people who taught me how to love!! - Judy

Mercy!!!! Within the last 36 hours I have received 52 emails!!! Needless to say I can't handle the volume but definitely want to hear from my friends and owners of "our babies". I'm getting way too many Applications To Be Puppy Parents and emails from strangers asking questions such as " what's a Bulldog like". I'm going to wait 48 hours and if I'm still getting this volume I'm going to remove the links for the Application and perhaps the "automatic email function". I will still have the email address on the website but it just won't be as easy to send me an email.

Jelly Bean (aka Jelly Roll) has taken a giant step forward. She didn't wake us up Monday night, which was a first. Every night for 10 weeks we've been awaken by her "kit kat howl" when we were late in feeding her, every 3 hours. She's eating by herself although she's sneezing some out her nose and falls down often because she's sneezing so very hard. Tuesday morning, Bob brought her to me while I was still in bed. She was so cute, putting her teeth on my fingers (doesn't bite as such), then laying down first on her side then on her back for me to tickle her tummy.

Last week we stopped to get gas and I noticed the car next to us, VW Beetle, had 2 pugs and an English Bulldog in it. Of course I was fascinated since I won't place my "babies" in homes were there are pugs because I have always thought the pugs would make the Bully hyper. We waited for the owners to return and had a lengthy conversation in regard to mixing the two breeds. There are 3 classifications of pugs, and theirs are in the Bulldog Pug class which weighs 20-25 pound. They were not hyper but the couple told us their brother had the smaller size and it was hyper. Now for the most important part of our encounter.... their Bully had a cleft lip and palate when it was born and had to be tube fed, just like Jelly. Much of what we described to them about Jelly was exactly as their Bully had been. They were fortunate in that his palate closed by itself so there was no need for an operation. Oh how we pray Jelly's fate will be the same.

I'll be glad when the county road crew finishes digging out the ditches. This morning they hit the power line while taking down trees so we were without electricity for several hours. (lol lol)

Hi my name is Kerry, I recently had my 6 month old bulldog puppy stolen. He is buff or fawn with some white marking on his chest and dark mask like rings around his eyes. If you should happen to be contacted about a male with that description could you please contact me. We live in North Dakota, I would assume he is in this area somewhere. I really appreciate it. - Kerry

Upcoming Litter Announcement

Reba, bred to Guitarman, is "with pups" but not many. Here are a couple of pictures we took of her yesterday. If all goes well the pups will be born about 3/30 and be released to their new homes about 5/21. They will be CKC registered and will most likely be $1000, depends upon how they look. This will be the first litter Guitarman has sired.

Saturday - 03/06/04 - 6:00 AM CST

Good Morning!!! It's been "rainin' cats & dogs" for the past 24 hours. It's finally stopped, but I'm afraid to look at the weather forecast. The rivers and streams were already full so I'm sure there is tremendous flooding in the low-lying areas.

I was successful in bargaining for the fencing panels and even got them delivered, but poor Bob ended up helping to unload them in the pouring rain. Now if the rain will just stop long enough for the ground to dry out some, we can get to work making the new exercise area for the bullies.

Remember the lady from NY who called the first part of Feb to ask a question about her Bully (bought at a Pet Store) and I advised her to take him to the Vet immediately, this is her update email along with their picture.

Dear Judy: First, I would like to thank you so much for being there for me when I called you on February 2 about my sick bully, Chad. After four follow ups at the vets and a lot of tender loving care, last week the vet said he was fully recovered. He loves going outdoors, he's very frisky..it's a pleasure to watch him romp around. Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers. I've enclosed a picture of the two of us....Chad's mom (Lisa from NY).

Yesterday, I spent the entire day trying to clear out my mailbox while answering this silly phone. Right in the middle of telling a lady that I got the impression she might "rile up" the babies and asking her if this was valid, the telephone rang. The caller ID said CA. The lady asked if we sold English Bulldog Puppies and I replied yes. Then she said, on your website it says you don't ship, what is this, do you have to live in Tennessee. I told her "NO", but I thought the expense of an airline ticket to the Memphis Airport will result in the pup being too expensive, she said OK and hung up. ..... you just have to explain everything to some people, lol lol.

I was awaken a little after 4, by deep rumbling, probably of a big truck transporting earth moving machinery out on the main road. Moments later the "strays that came to stay" started barking to keep it at bay, then the Bullies inside the house joined in. Hope you are having a good weekend, I must get busy taking the Bullies out to potty. - Judy

Friday - 03/05/04 - 6:00 AM CST

Yesterday afternoon Bob & I met Brynn, son of Susan Schreiner, so that he could get Cinnamon Roll. We took along Jelly so she could met Cinnamon's new family member and say "Goodbye" to her sister. Brynn and his wife Melissa bought Cinnamon as a birthday present for their "Mom". They will be giving her to Susan today.

We took Jeb with us but forgot to included him in the "Going Home" pictures, so when we took him into PetSmart Bob took a picture of him with some nice young ladies.

So much is "going on" that it would take me all morning to tell you about it. It will have to wait until later because this morning I'm bargaining with a man about some fencing so I better get off the computer, do my chores and go wave cash in front of his face. (lol lol lol) - Judy

PS So much for my prediction that "Spring Is Here", it's forecasted to be down to 35 degrees Saturday night. Good thing I haven't started moving plants out to the porches!! With these beauties blooming right outside the backdoor, spring may not have arrived, but it surely is blooming in my heart!!

Thursday - 03/04/04 - 6:00 AM CST

I have decided, Spring Is Here!!! Actually our USDA Last Frost Date is 4/01 but I'm going to take the chance and start moving all my plants out of the house and onto the porches. All but a couple survived the winter so at last count there were 136 of them. Many will have to be repotted so I might as well get started.

We've started taking new pictures of "our gang", therefore will be sharing them with you as we go along. This is Charlotte (Miss Wiggle Butt), Mother of Kate, Happy, Sleepy, Carlotta and Mini-E. When she goes to sleep, her tongue hangs out of the side of her mouth and it takes awhile for it to become normal again...almost as if it stretches.(lol)

Guss, the parakeet, scared the "day lights" out of me last night. All was quiet, when suddenly he let out a loud squawk. This from a tiny thing who's only sounds heretofore have been when he skitters down the side of the cage to his food dish. I jumped and ran to him but nothing was wrong...I think he found his voice!!

Words of Wisdom Sent To Us By Our Friend Susie Wood:

Being happy doesn't mean everything's perfect. It means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections!

Tuesday - 03/02/04 - 8:00 PM CST

I have been alerted to the fact that someone is using this picture of Dakota, sent to me by her new parents, to sell bully pups on www.petpages.com. In the Search function, enter "English Bulldog" and it is the 4th in the listing, "Davie of FL". He does not have permission to use this picture, therefore "if it smells like a scam, it probably is a scam!!! I would hate for someone to put down a deposit on a "baby" he can't deliver!!!

- 3:00 PM CST

We decided to get in the car and go see the parrot so things would be settled for all concerned... (LOL LOL LOL) It was 95% naked and there were no new feathers growing in. To us this was indicative of it having an allergy, immunity problem or a disease which we know nothing about. We believe it was a male instead of a female and that it is older than we were told. It had a wonderful disposition until it thought Bob was going to put it back in the cage. Having a crippled wing (I believe it had been broken) it could not fly, so plop it went to the floor and started running straight at my feet. Needless to say I tried my best to get out of the way..the person showing it to us caught it easy enough, but... All things considered we loved the species but did not feel it would be wise to get involved with this particular bird, especially since the adoption fee was rather steep.

- 7:00 AM CST

So what do we do when life is already too full, adopt a parrot who will outlive both of us. A nearly naked bird who has been in a pitiful feather plucking state of anxiety due to neglect for many months and only likes men. (lol lol) Bob loves birds which they sense right away and want to be cuddled by him. I'm apprehensive of birds period and do not want to hold one or have it sit on me. I can admire, feed, clean up after and talk to it without holding it, so it sounds as if there is some potential in the situation. We haven't done it yet but ... We're going to visit with it later in the week and then make a decision. If it bonds with Bob immediately then we'll bring it home.

Ooops "our gang" is calling, more later. - Judy

Monday - 03/01/04 - 8:00 AM CST

Michelle The pictures are of Michelle on her way home to Michigan with Elise & her friend Rick!! We met yesterday in Dickson, TN which is a 6 hour round-trip for me and I will admit that I was teary- eyed all the way there and all the way home. Elise has another of our Bullies, named Al who is 3 years old. His website address is www.geocities.com/al_bulldog/ You will have to copy and paste the URL since I have not learned how to program the little pop-up windows. I got this email after they got back home.

Michelle "This is crazy! Al is AFRAID of Michelle! LOL! She is running around the house chasing him and he is so intimidated by her. She wants to play with him and he's so confused he does not know what to think. Tonight I have to take Al for a walk to let him know he's still my special buddy and Al will sleep with me as usual. My son Jason is sleeping with Michelle. They are so cute together. Thank you so much."

I emailed Elise back telling her if it didn't work out between them that I would take Michelle back and give her a full refund .. because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Michelle will have excellent care.

I'm off to catch up on the chores I didn't do yesterday. - Judy

"We have one mission in life, and that mission is to love" - Mother Theresa

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 50 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
