Bee Sting Warning - Dangerous for Bulldogs!!!

Thursday - 6/30/2005 - 9:02 AM CDT
Thank You, to all of you who send emails of condolence. Yesterday was a sad day for us so we weren't very productive, just did what "had" to be done and last night we didn't get much sleep because Sweetie kept barking to be with her puppies, although we had just had them with her. Finally we realized the reason she was barking is because one of them kept whining in his sleep. Having read that, it should come as no surprise that we are headed back to bed. We’ve been up and working since 5, ate breakfast on the run and decided it took too much energy to make and drink coffee, now aren't we pitiful!!

We're trying hard to look on the positive side of life and be thankful that Pepper didn't suffer, but sometimes tears get in the way. It's a good thing we have the Bully pups which make us smile, through the tears.

Hope you are having a good day!!! - Judy

Oh My!! With tears still falling I write to tell you that PepperJack passed away in his sleep last night, evidently his heart just gave out on him, for he was in perfect condition and full of energy. He was soon to be 11 years. old, sired his last litter at the age of 9 and was definitely still interested in the lady Bulldogs, a true Bully Stud Muffin. His Bully Butt Wiggle, 10 minute storm warning, demand for rides in the van so he could sit in the passenger's seat to greet strangers and show what a beautiful Bully he was, will be terribly missed. He loved Bob, but he loved his Mama Judy more... Judy

Sweet Tater Pie & Jazzman's Puppies DOB 6/25/05

Sweet T. Pie's little four day old 'tarts'...

Tuesday - 6/28/2005 - 5:00 AM CDT
Gracious!!! I just crawled out of bed and I'm so tired I feel like I could have slept until Noon. I must have lots of coffee this morning before I'll trust myself to do anything!!!

Just wanted you to know Sweetie Pie & Jazzman's puppies are doing great and she is a wonderful mother We have one female puppy from Carlotta's litter available, Lou.

Hope you're feeling better than me this morning. - Judy

Monday - 6/27/2005 - 9:00 AM CDT
I still have that Black Cloud over my head!! Sweetie Pie is the Bully mother who had the emergency c-section and 7 puppies which are doing great and are beautiful. Some of her stitches came out last night about 9; you don't want to hear the details of that. So here I am calling the vet, we meet him at his office and he stitched her backup. It's a 45-mile drive and Bob had to hold her belly up all the way to prevent further damage. Bob is so wonderful!

Before you get to thinking bad about the vet, please don't. He is wonderful but like I'm always telling people, Vets are just like the rest of us, they make mistakes also. The only people who don't make mistakes are the ones who aren't doing anything!!!

Bob and I are exhausted this morning!! I had all my plants on the porch to water after we got back and he slept most of the night on a pallet beside Sweetie Pie just to make sure she was OK. This morning she's acting like nothing happened.

I know there was such a thing as a 'rain dance', I wonder if there is a 'black cloud be gone dance'. I hope you can make this day one of the best you have ever had, that surely is my objective!! Later.. Judy

PS Before people start inquiring, we won't be ready to discuss Sweetie Pie's puppies for several weeks. I have special plans for most of them.

Sunday - 6/26/2005 - 4:00 PM CDT
Life has just been messing with me!!! In addition to the things I've reported on below, last week.....

1) Break-in at our rental house, antiques stored there were stolen, tossed mess and destruction of door and windows.

2) Bob had do the repairs so I've been having to do all the work around here by myself. Up at 5 work straight through except for short breaks until 8:30 at night then crawl in bed, exhausted.

3) The Brattons called yesterday morning to say they would be at our house around 5. I was rushing to get the chores done and be presentable. They called to advise they were running late due to traffic.

4) Female Bulldog started heavy panting, oh gosh we might lose the litter. I got in touch with the vet who said it could be low calcium, since her due dates were 6/27 - 7/1. We tried feeding her canned milk, salmon and sardines. We thought she was just panting so much that she wasn't interested in food, so me had to get her to him quickly for a shot, of course his office was closed long ago. Shot didn't work so he did an emergency c- section. Fortunately the puppies appear to be mature enough to live.

5) While we were gone one of the female bullies got past the kiddy gate and chewed the a/c cord into (can't be repaired must order one from the Mfg) She's in heat and she gets a real case of PMS, so she's being spayed very soon.

6) The Brattons arrived about 10 minutes after we got back home. Bless their hearts had they been on time they would have experienced our emergency c-section. As it was I was a total wreck, physically, and mentally.

Last night I drank a big glass of wine and went to sleep, poor Bob had to take care of the new mother and 7 BEAUTIFUL puppies. You can surely tell they are Jazzman's puppies. At some point in all of this I figured it was one of those times to 'grab hold to the seat of my pants and ride it out.

Fortunately, nothing worse happened and we do have the wonderful puppies. lol lol lol - Judy

I was up at 4:45 AM, outside working in "third gear" by 5 and have just sat down. It's already 85 degrees with 49% humidity and not even a slight breeze, so it's tough. The high today is usppose to be 94. I've just finished my outside morning chores for the day. I've also fed, cleaned and taken more pictures of Carlotta's puppies. Dakota has been reserved so now I can start discussing the other puppies with people, but first I must get caught up on emails. More later, unless there is a crisis. - Judy

As of yesterday, I know what will happen when you forget you are boiling eggs ... They boil dry, then explode. That should get your attention, it did mine. Only one of my lazy Bullies even bothered to bark.

I had just fed and cleaned the puppies, rushed upstairs to send an email telling a person when Carlotta's puppy would be ready to be picked up so that he could make his airline reservations.I got sidetracked building them a web page so I could post their pictures and then heard a small explosion. Heart racing, I ran downstairs, to find smoke, another one exploded, I quickly threw a towel over my arm to prevent being burned by flying egg and turned off the gas, slapped a lid on the pan and took it outside and put it in the middle of the drive so it wouldn't catch anything else on fire.

I can do this, I can handle ALL of this!!

Tuesday - 6/21/2005 - Noon CDT

We have available puppies and I'm trying my best to get to the point of placing the older two and allowing people to reserve the other 3, 2 have been promised.

Whew yesterday was a little too much!!! It's a good thing I have keen sense of smell. I noticed a not "right" smell and started searching the kitchen for the source. It was the crockpot, the element had melted the plastic housing and if it had been on a counter it is very probable that it would have caught it on fire. We have an antique double drain-board porcelain coated steel sink. Thank Goodness!!!

Jazzman made a trip to the vet's yesterday to bred Juliet. I suppose it was the excitement plus the heat that caused him to over-heat by the time we arrived back home. We put cold towels on him, put a box fan right blowing on him, poured water over him and finally got him cooled down. Gracious future breedings will have to take place early, early AM.

I've had just about all the excitement around here that I can stand.- Judy

Monday - 6/20/2005 - 1:00 PM CDT
Poor Bob has been so very sick with food poisoning. This is the first time I have ever seen him sick with something like this so I was greatly concerned. I've been trying to do all the work, and take care of him, plus I wanted to be there to hold his head while he is hugging the toilet and rub his back to relax him enough to drop off to sleep. Today he is much better he was able to keep down the dry toast I fixed him for breakfast. Bless his heart and mine too since I'm about exhausted.

Hope you are making this Monday the best that it can be. - Judy

Thursday - 6/15/2005 - 9:00 AM CDT
Jelly Cleft Palate Puppy Update: She is doing well... she is so weird!!! The other Bullies and I just say, "She ain't right" She went from jumping out from behind pots etc to scare the daylights out of me to going with Bob to his shop and not wanting to come back into the house. I think she got tired of my wiping her nose. She makes a mess, always sneezing food through her nose, etc. She is too lovable for words!! If she's outside and sees me coming, she'll run into the shop and get in her crate so I won't try to take her back to the house. Such a funny, skinny munchkin

Jeb Update: He's a brat... he loves Fluffy and her long white hair. He will do anything to be able to "get fresh" with her. He takes her his bone and when her attention is on it.. well you know what he wants to do, but she snaps and growls at him, flips her tail up in the air in disgust and trots away, leaving poor Jeb without a bone or a girl friend.

Have fun today!!! - Judy

Wednesday - 6/15/2005 - 9:00 AM CDT
We've been up and going since 5 AM. You don't even want to know all the work we've done since then. lol lol ....dogs fed, dogs walked, 3 loads of clothes washed and hung on the line to dry because using the dryer will heat up the house. The high for today is suppose to be 90 with 83% humidity, wonder what the 'real feel' will be. The good news is there is a nice breeze blowing here.

Cups of coffee are sipped while we work. We have the morning rounds of Bully chores which are normally finished by 11 AM. We brunch when we're finished. Bob puts the mother back with her puppies while I clean the kitchen, then Bob takes a nap since he's been up and down with the puppies all night. I work at my computer on the website or on my plants. Bob's up in about an hour, and immediately puts the pups back with their mother. Afterward, he does the most pressing chores like mowing the yard. Meanwhile I'm taking care of puppy needs, feeding and clean poop, washing doggie beds, folding and bringing in clothes off the line, etc. Around 4 we feed and take out the Bullies that have been rotated into the house. A quick supper and depending upon the temperature we reverse order the morning chores and normally are finished by 7, at which time we're TIRED.

Have a good and productive day!! - Judy

Tuesday - 6/14/2005 - 6:00 AM CDT
Whew!! Life gets tough at times and I find I just need a rest, as in taking the whole month of May off.(Bad Judy) Needless to say emails have not been answered in a timely manner. It's hard to sort through them to make a decison on which ones to delete because the information is on the front page of the website and those which deserve an apology for me being late in answering. Meanwhile I have 149 emails waiting to be read.

I made a list of things that I could do to keep me cool when I'm doing my outside chores:

-Fan on a wagon so I can pull it around with me, long extension cord (lol)
-A spray bottle of water
-Misting wand if I'm going to be in an area very long
-Cold towel around my neck
-Chilled witch hazel in a bowl, cloth for applying to exposed parts
-Minimum clothes
-Sprinkler going so I can run through it
-Outside shower - Mount a clip on the back porch to hold the plant watering wand, affix a water cutoff where it connects to hose.

It's a plan..........

PS Reminder mailman comes in the afternoon, therefore no wet t-shirts until after he has delivered.

Have a good day and I hope you enjoyed this last bit of silliness - Judy

From: James Sent: Tuesday, May 24, 2005 7:09 AM Subject: Chewy Cookie Dog show picture

Here is a picture of us with Brutus (chewy cookie) at the dog show for the Detroit Bulldog Rescue Club. I just want to let you know that we had allot of people asking us about were we got Brutus from. The people that show bulldogs told me that Brutus has show potential. He came in 3rd place as you can see out of 20 dogs. He actually beat out other show dogs.

Thank you for everything- Jim

Whew Doggie!!! It is some kind of hot outside. The temperature is already 84 F with a predicted high of 94 F. All the dogs except "strays that came to stay" are under a/c, the morning round of chores has been completed and we're "fixin'ta" eat brunch, fried egg sandwiches

We had thunderstorms all weekend but it slacked up enough for the Radeckis to drive in from Memphis to pick up Count, new name Hank. Mr Radecki and his sister flew in from Connecticut on Friday and spent two days seeing the sights in Memphis before driving up here early Sunday morning to get Hank. Hank immediately 'took to' them and they got down in the floor to love on Jeb and other members of 'our gang'.

Hope your day is going good. As usual we are busy, busy, busy - Judy

It has been so very hot and humid here. A person just can't breath well in this humidity. The temps are suppose to be 90 F with a 40% chance of thunderstorms. Whew!!! We had been without rain for so long that the large oak trees were loosing their leaves, but once the rain started it won't let up. This is ideal conditions for fungus and several of the Bullies have large hot spots. Monday I went to the "big city" and bought them another a/c one just was not keeping the area cool enough. They are in dog runs at night for exercise and when it starts to heat up during the day they are moved to an a/c area. It's tough to work in a mid-day potty break due to high temps and occasional thunderstorms. It seems if one of them doesn't get us the other one will. Drying the dog sheets has really been a problem because using the dry heats up the house too much. But I'm going to find a solution to all of this before I get buried alive under an avalanche of dirty dog sheets. Yuck!!!

I'm off to do chores right quick before it's too hot, the sun just came out so it's going to be like a sauna outside. - Judy

I can't believe my last posting was 6 days ago, Goodness so much has happened.

Sunday morning around 1 AM Reba went into labor. She only had one puppy. It has such a bad hernia that we opted not to revive it. So sad, I dreamed about that puppy for many nights. We've had a total of 3 of these puppies in the 15 years that I have been raising Bulldogs. One survived and everything worked out fine. The other 2 died after days of emotional stress and turmoil. Our hearts dictate we try our best to save any animal or person, but this time my head won the battle because I knew we no longer have the energy, emotional or physical, to deal with that type of situation. We've fought the odds many times and part of the time we won, but we can no longer fight those battles.

During all this turmoil, Miss B's middle size puppy got a cherry eye. I suppose it was from playing with the other puppies, because it was right after I clipped their nails and they tend to be sharper for a few days. I didn't take the time to file the edges, so shame on me.

We've had horrible storms which hampers us getting our chores finished. It had been super dry so coupled with the insecticide Bob had spread the fleas and ticks were under control. With the rain came hordes of ticks. If you ever go into the woods, be sure to wear protection because ticks live in/on trees and fallen leaves. When we built the house in the woods we didn't know this, but it would not have deterred us, we love the shade.

I had advised you that we were trying Diamond Dog Food Products. The Bullies love it but, about half the Bullies could not eat it because it upset their digestive system. We decided against buying more.

Carlotta's puppies are doing just great. We'll be taking individual pictures of them soon.- Judy

Wednesday - 6/01/2005 - 9:30 AM CDT
We're finally getting some rain. The old Oak Trees had begun to lose their leaves it has been so dry here. I've had the sprinklers going 24 hours a day on different parts of the yard for the last three days and I was at the verge of doing a rain dance, but I couldn't find any instructions on the Internet and the only other alternative was to rent the movie The Rainmaker, if I could locate it anywhere. Now I don't have to go to all that trouble. It was enough effort just trying to keep everything but the weeds from dying. Weeds never die.

We have four more days until the first possible delivery date for Reba & Peanut's babies. We're getting excited but we are so tired already. Fortunately about the time Reba will be having her's the older litter of puppies will be going to their new homes. Oops that reminded me I haven't ordered their AKC papers. Dang.

A couple of pictures of Miss B's puppies...

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 50 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
