John & Millie taking Lou back home to the Chicago, IL Area
Saturday - 7/30/05 11:30 AM
Whew!! Things have kind of leveled off so we're going strong this morning trying to get the
"place" in order, especially for Millie and husband who are coming to get Lou Monday morning.
They will be so pleased with her she is a DOLL!! and she's gonna be the smaller size Bully.
REMINDER: To those of you who got Carlotta's puppies their 2nd shot was due yesterday!!!
Have a Good Weekend!!! - Judy
Friday - 7/29/05 8:00 AM
Good Morning!! & Have A Great Weekend!!
We can't get anything accomplished for, if it isn't raining then it too hot to be outside
or run appliances inside which will cause more heat. Also I can't seem to learn from
experience, every year in the spring I pot up more plants which require great care in the
summer heat, but this year I've really over done it so just maybe I won't do it again.
lol lol Sure!!
We're about to settle the lawsuit I ended up having to file in order to get a clear title
to the land upon which we built the house. It has been horrible but needless to say we
were not going to put more money into the house until we had the actual deed in our hands.
Don't be as trusting as me, make sure you have everything in writing and that you've
dotted every "i" and crossed every "t", I don't care who you are dealing with!!
We're having a real hard time taking pictures of Sweetie Pie's puppies, since they are
basically white their wrinkles and other detail are not showing up well at all. Some of the pups
are going to look like Sweetie and some are going to look like Jazzman in regard to the shape
of the face. My favorite, yes I have one, is the smallest female she is just too cute for words.
The largest female is a total "I have to have it my way cry baby".
Sun is just about to come out so we've got to move all "our gang" into a/c quarters.

your enemy, put a smile on your face and a song in your heart. - Judy
Wednesday - 7/27/05 5:00 PM
Lord Have Mercy!! We just had the most gosh awful storm roll through here. When it
started, I ran out in the rain, snatched up this Brugmansia brought her onto the porch and
repotted her in a big ole pot I had just bought. I was determined she was not going to hit
the ground again. About the time I finished, the thunder and lightening were something to
behold.
The rains were so heavy within minutes we had a flash flood, the electricity went off and
didn't come back on for 3 hours. The water was risin' and I was the only one here. Bob was
gone to the big city. Actually I'm small so I don't have much muscle power, but I knew the
ditches around the house had to be dug a little deeper, at least in places, or the water
was gonna come in the back door. I ran into the house, found Bob's bottle of blended sippin
whiskey, put a shot in a glass and filled it the rest of the way with water. I gulped it
down and ran back outside with a hoe, there is no way I can use a shovel. I would just
have to rake them down. I scrapped off as much as I could and the water started gushing
down hill. Meanwhile, the lightening was popping all around but I figured if I was gonna
mean My Maker he would understand.
Exhausted I pulled my wet clothes and shoes off at the back door, went upstairs, lit
candles and crawled into bed. Two hours later, Bob arrived home and called out from
downstairs. He hadn't been in the storm but had seen my clothes, brugs outside that had
been laid down, lots of standing water, realized there was no electricity and figured we
must have had a bad storm.
Huggin' me up tight he said he was sorry he wasn't here to help me.

It's 99.1 degrees, with a Heat Index of 111. I took Bessie out to potty just
now and almost the moment I stepped outside I was covered in a film which felt like oil
but it was only humidity, what a nasty feeling.
She's getting pretty good about letting me know when she has 'to go' which I think is
remarkable since she's had very little training, we just have not had the time. This time,
I think she just wanted to go stretch her legs but she was smart enough to squat for a few
seconds so she would get her "Good Girl".
When I tell her she is a "Good, Good Girl" she
comes running for me to squat down and give her a little lovin'. She's gotten too big for me
to pick up so this is the next best thing to do for a reward. Afterward I like to have never got
her back into the house, she picked flowers, got in the azaleas, found a very small puddle of water
from watering plants to roll in and ran, ran, ran. Finally, I scooped her up in my sweaty arms and brought her
into the house.

I decided after an exhausting 2 weeks that I needed a personal day off, but there is no
doing that until after this heat wave has passed. The good news is I've worked/sweated
off 10 pounds so I'm back down to what I like to weigh, but the older I get the harder it
is to get rid of the belly!!
I've got to take updated pictures of the puppies, so
I'll ask Bob to take some pictures of me holding them, so you can see the hair cut I gave
myself as well as the puppies. I'm off and running, hope this Monday
is a good one for you. - Judy

Fats (New Name: Tyson) going home to Chicago.
Saturday - 07/23/2005 10:00 AM
The high temperature for today is supposed to be 97 degrees with a heat index of 109. We
kicked it into high gear this morning and were up taking care of puppies, walking Bullies,
washing down dog runs, washing and hanging out to dry the dog beds at 5, at the vets for a
breeding at 8, then stopped by Wal-Mark for milk and ice cream. Got home at 9:30, cleaned
and fed puppies, hung up the load of sheets that were put on to wash before we left.
Now we sit here exhausted, to tired
to even think about breakfast!! Oops Bob just asked if I wanted a bowl of ice cream and it
sure sounds refreshing after all the sweating I've been doing out in the sun, it's already 91
with a heat index of 102!!
Well I'm off and running I have many things to do before it gets any hotter outside. The main thing
left to do is water my plants. This is an Angel's Trumpet (Brugmansia) and you can tell how large it
is compared to my hand. - Judy
Friday - 07/22/2005 2:00 AM - Up With Puppies
Fats (New Name: Tyson) is going to his new home on Sunday, meanwhile he's a eating, pooping machine. I have
he & Lou in crates by themselves because Lou has stitches and he might pull them out.
Mr. Cat and Miss
Kitty, lay around on the porches so when she finally takes her eyes off my feet long
enough to notice them, she zooms to where they lay dozing in the sun. Miss Kitty is kinda
skittish anyway so she always hears Bessie headed her way and disappears. Not Mr. Cat he's
a tad too lazy to move unless it is absolutely necessary. He'll roll over on his back like
he wants her to rub his tummy and Bessie comes to a full stop, looks at him wondering what
kind of game he wants to play, then does her bouncing routine that is a signal to other
puppies to play chase. Meanwhile Mr. Cat is doing a slow tummy up wiggle which totally confuses
this active puppy. She sniffs his bottom, his nose and gives him a puppy nudge. His
patiences are about to wear thin and since he has extremely sharp claws Mama Judy ends the
interaction before she pushes it too far and Mr. Cat takes a swipe at that beautiful face of hers.
Thursday - 07/21/2005 Noon
Smart Cookie doesn't have any milk this morning so I've been trying all the tricks I know to
have her produce milk; my special recipe mother's milk shakes, yogurt, cottage cheese, letting
the puppies cry, all of which did no good whatsoever. (Some milk cows don't have milk until they
heard the bell ring which signifies it's milking time. The bell triggers milk production,
likewise crying puppies triggers milk production in doggie mamas.)
Bob was busy so I kept lifting her up
on the bed where she will lay flat on her back for the puppies to nurse but it didn't help. Next
I tried Sweetie Pie, she would let them nurse because I wanted her to but her milk would not come
for them. By this time the puppies and I are exhausted.
I made up a special emergency formula and
hand fed them both. How I did it was to dip my finger in the milk, get them to nursing on it them
let the formula dribble from a syringe into the side of their mouths. I sure hope Smart Cookie gets
milk real soon.
Sweetie Pie's Litter
Speaking of Sweetie Pie, she is the best puppy mother I've ever seen, next to my old Sassy T who stole
puppies from another litter to put with her pups because they were crying. - Judy

Wednesday - 07/20/2005
Whew!!! We've been having heavy rains, then the sun comes out and it's like being in
a sauna. We've overslept this morning so we've been rushing around trying to get everything
done that must be done outside.
Some of you I know have read this before but it made me chuckle when I read it just now, so
it's worth a repeat, especially since it includes Angel, our wonderful stray that came to
stay, who has now passed away.
Up and going at 4:30 AM, I had fed and walked dogs, fed the cats and was busy getting
puppy food ready at 5:00 AM, when I heard a vehicle horn blowing anxiously. Fear
immediately engulfed me. Thoughts of it being one of my parents in an emergency situation
made the hair stand up on my arms. I flipped on the back porch light to signal to whoever
was in such great need that I was aware that they were there and on my way. The horn stop!
Looking out the back window, I was unable to see vehicles other than our own. Then I
realized that it sounded just like my van horn and since there were no other vehicles, it
had to be.
Of course, someone was stranded with car trouble and seeing all the lights at our house
had come for assistance and Angel, My Guardian Angel, had gotten after them so they had
jumped into the safety of my van. Or maybe it was someone with evil intent. I ran into the
bedroom and told Bob to wake up and put on some clothes because someone was in my van
blowing the horn. I ran back to the backdoor of the house. I looked out and noticed Angel
and Boomerang, by the van driver's door. The hair was not standing up on her back like it
does when she's "after something". I then decided, whoever was in the van was afraid of
the dogs so I called them to me and together we walked back out to the van. Sitting in the
driver's seat was "someone's throw away cat" who lives under the porch, comes out to eat,
but will not allow anyone to get within 5 ft of him. Then I noticed a
moth on the windshield. The cat had evidently been jumping on the steering wheel (horn)
attempting to catch the moth. Bob arrived, adrenaline pumping, just in time to see the cat
(Mr. Cat) bolt from the car.
Have a good day, tell your friends and family you love them, and give your Bully a hug
from me. - Judy

Up with puppies....
You have to understand that I used to rescue many dogs...
that being said some had behavior problems
so we really didn't want any other animals around. A feral cat took up residence under the
porch. Late at night she sneaks onto the porch to eat out of the dishpan of food I always
have full for the “stray dogs that have come to stay”. A few weeks later, she is coming
out from under the porch to attack the Bullies that I’m taking on their morning potty
break. This simply will not work. I bought a live trap, caught her, took her to the vets,
had her fixed and then took her way out into another area and set her free, the local “cat
rescue person” had assured me there was a feral community there. Now we have the babies,
live trap again and we take them to the vet’s to be neutered, one male and one female. At
the vet’s one of them gets loose and “Katie bar the door” madness resulted. My vet ended
up having to catch them, with gloved hands and a big bath towel. Neutered and back to our
house, I ask Big Daddy (Bob) to just ignore them and maybe they will go away.
Gracious he is making cat noise to get them to approach when he feeds them. The 'strays
that came to stay'; hate the cats so we feed them up high, on the porch table or the
wooden workbench I have for potting up plants.
Fast forward if you will, the strays are getting older and won’t even get off the porch
when it’s raining. They don’t want the cats to get something “good” so we still fed up
high. Sweet Tater Pie, who had puppies a few weeks ago, goes out the backdoor to potty.
First she sees Dumpy (someone dumped him out) in the dirty clothesbasket outside the door
and then she has to step over Mr. Cat as she goes out into the yard to potty.
The last time I was sick, Mr. Cat climbed up to the roof to look for me, spying me lying
in bed on the 2nd floor he talks to me through the open window. I know things aren’t right
so I pull myself up out of bed and go downstairs. Mr. Cat is right, things are a mess and
Mama Judy is very much needed.
Meet Mr. Cat, he follows me everywhere. Most of the Bullies ignore him, one would like
cattails for breakfast and a couple he rubs against purring.

OH MY!!! Yesterday I immediately started work on the Questions & Answer Function I had
described to you all and was taking more care in my response to the first question. My
mailbox is normally so packed, I'm speeding through the emails and responding, meanwhile
I'm having a hundred distractions; mailman honking his horn to let me know I
have a package, UPS delivery, one of 'our gang' barking to go potty, yarddogs barking an
alarm, the telephone ringing, washing machine and dryer buzzer, puppy crying because it was
asleep and another one was pulling on it's leg...
This is the email I was trying to answer and it doing so I became very much enlightened
about human nature and how our society has evolved.

Hi Judy, - My wife and I have a beautiful 8 month old baby female bulldog. She is so fun,
nice, pretty, and energetic. She is our little princess. My question is about her
chewing and i wondered if you have ever seen this in your bullies? she seems to go for my
feet at weird time...if I'm on the phone or getting ready fo work...she goes right for
them and wants to bite them. Just playing of course but still it's persistant. Also she
loves to chew everything but her toys at random times. We think she is chewing when her
belly is upset. It's the only thing we can think of. Any suggestions or have you ever
seen this before?...I give her a tums every once and a while and it seems to help. Thank
you and your dogs are beautiful
Why don't you give this situation some thought and I'll give you my answer tomorrow. Meanwhile
have a wonderful day, I hope it's not raining where you are. - Judy
Friday - 07/15/2005 - 10:30 AM CDT
After morning puppy & big Bully chores, washing 4 loads of dog beds and hanging them up to
dry in the enclosed dog run area, all the Clorox must have cleared my brain, because just now I
looked at my email inbox and there was a request for assistance from someone I didn't know. It
dawned on me I could create a function within PuppyGal which would allow me to post their
email, my answer and invite comments from all of you who have Bullies and may have
encountered the same problem. What a great way to pool the resources of everyone.
Now I'm really excited, what a great learning experience this has the potential for being.

Hope you are having a good night. It's just started to storm here so I may not get this
posted until in the morning. I spent yesterday afternoon holding Lou, she was being a baby
after her surgery, but today has been very productive. We're trying to catch up on chores,
it's hard when we're spending so much time with the puppies. One thing about all this summer
activity and working out in the heat, work hard enough and you'll lose weight! I'm working off
all the time I spent last winter sitting at this computer snacking. lol lol
I took the month of May off for some down time and enjoyed planting flowers, etc.. That is
how I hurt my back, tugging on those big pots. The reward I got for my efforts are
amazing but I'm truly have too many.
I'm off to catch a nap before it's time to feed the babies again. - Judy
Wednesday - 07/13/2005 - 1:30 PM CDT
Whew!!! I'm so absolutely busy that I think I slipped a gear!!! We're doing fine
stronger winds tossed things around and actually uprooted some 5 foot trees in containers,
but nothing major. We're getting Carlotta's puppies ready to go to their new homes, well puppy
checks and health certificates. Lou's tail is having cosmetic surgery, lol lol. She has PepperJack's
tail, an extra little tag.
My friend, Lynne, who was diagnosed with cancer and told she had 6 months to live without treatment, 1 1/2 years
with threatment and occasionally remission, has fought a strong battle. The chemo treatments have reduced
the tumors and she went today for another scan, the results of which she will know Monday. We are
holding our breath. Before the first treatment she kept saying, Call Me 'Occasionally'. We are all
praying for a miracle. Her cancer was more advanced but in the same place as mine, I keep telling her
I'm still here Fat & Sassy and she will be also!!
Have a good day and tell your friends, you love them. - Judy

All around us on the weather maps is orange and red/orange, but we're just getting
mild wind and rain. I'm so hopeful that this continues. I'm fuzzy tree itching so I'm
awake but Bob and the Bullies are asleep. The meds for itching don't last long - Judy
Sunday - 07/10/2005 - 5:00 AM CDT
I just woke up from a long deep sleep, itching like a man on a fuzzy tree!!! (whatever
that means) I'll allergic to everything and I was just plain stupid when I went into the
woods to fetch Jeb, I don't know what has gotten into him. He's just being really stubborn....
probably jealous of the attention I'm giving the puppies. I got bit in places a chigger should have more decency than
to go. Then I was working outside pulling weeds, I disturbed fire ants which bit the "do
wa ditty" out of my hand. I thought I took care of the problem by putting salt on the
bites, but now I'm really itching. Oh well give this a week or two and it will be history.
Saturday - 07/09/2005 - 6:00 PM CDT
My mind is on Dennis (hurricane) and wondering what potential damage the high winds we are to
get here will do and how it can be prevented. I only have about 300 pots of plants on the porches
and in the yard. I don't know where in the world I could put them where they would be safe, maybe under
the porch... that just came to me as I was typing.
More tomorrow... - Judy

Good Morning!!
Whew!! If I don't get back to post today, have a good weekend. We're just working
ourselves silly. I'm ready to use RoundUp on the grass!! Bob finally took time out
to fix the outside washing machine so now I have two that I keep running all day long.
Between the heat and stress, I got one of the worse headaches I've ever had. I was forced
to ask Bob to go to the 'big city' to get me some wine since we don't have any kind of
strong pain medication and BCs were not doing any good. Late yesterday afternoon I drank
a big glass full and went to sleep for several hours and when I awoke, no headache. Sleep
was what I needed badly. I'm bright and sassy this morning!!! - Judy
Tuesday - 07/05/2005 - 10:30 AM CDT
Heavy Sigh!!! I'm handling some pretty heavy issues at present, plus working
super hard out in the heat. We were so tired from being up so much during the night
that we slept in until 7 AM. We've just finished up most of the morning outside chores
and decided the remainder will have to wait for tonight when it cools down.
Seems everyone is tired from 4th of July activities, we of course didn't have time to
do anything but Thank The Good Lord that we were born in the USA. - Judy
Monday - 07/04/2005 - 7:30 AM CDT
May You Have A Safe & Happy July 4!!
Late yesterday afternoon, Smart Cookie gave birth via c-section to 2 beautiful female puppies.
We're holding our breath since the first week is critical, especially the first 3 days. As you
can imagine we are working "from can, to can't"!!
I did something really stupid, I
went out into the woods to look at a wild fern. Yep, the chiggers were late in hatching
because we had such crazy weather, but they sure got me good. I'm taking antihistamines
and using a topical cream to stop the itching, but I kept waking up clawing at my feet
last night so finally I scratched around and found a 3 year old bottle of 'Ivy Block
Lotion' great stuff. If you are allergic to Poison Ivy you know my discomfort, I got bit
so many times it's like a rash. If I use all of the lotion, I'm going to buy a case of
Orajel, it numbs the area, therefore stops the itching.
Enjoy your 4th of July Celebration, but be careful with fireworks. - Judy

You have probably warned people a dozen times; but, I thought I'd mention, too. Watch
your bullies around bees. We let our Winston out on the deck to play in his wading pool
for just a short time -- maybe 15 minutes or so. We were all out and about working on the
house. Anyway, he came bolting in when I opened the door. Didn't think much about it
until about 3 or 4 hours later -- all of a sudden he couldn't open his mouth. Thick, egg-
white looking stuff was coming out of his mouth instead of his normal (almost no
droolies!). We hauled him to emergency -- about 6:15 p.m. 3 shots later -- including
pain killer, cortisone(with I think an antihistimine???) and some antibiotics . . . Then
-- "Go to your own vet tomorrow morning." Next morning, more shots. . . Looks like a bee
bit him on the chin then he snapped at it (or another one??) and got bit inside the mouth.
He's fine and fit now; but, we sure had a scarey couple of days!!
Sunday - 07/03/2005 - 4:00 AM CDT
Have you ever just taken the scissors to your hair? No I didn't know what I was doing and
when it dries I'll probably have to go get someone to straighten out the mess, but I was
sick and tired of having a blanket on my head in this heat. I've only had short hair ONCE
many, many years ago. I like my hair long because it's easier for me to take care of and
Bob loves long hair, don't most men, but I was HOT!! lol lol
Have a good Sunday. If you are a praying person, please remember Lynne & Cindy, friends of
mine who were diagnosed as having cancer. Their prognosis is 6 months to live with no treatment, 1 1/2
years with treatment and occasionally remission. Lynne said, just call me "Occasionally". Both
are in the mist of chemo and radiation treatments, both were smokers!! - Judy
Saturday - 07/02/2005 - 5:45 AM CDT
I remember years ago a breeder telling me, "you gotta be tough to be a breeder" and I didn't
understand what she meant, but I surely do now for death and dying become
all too familiar.
We have several old Bullies, both pets and rescues, and I'm
afraid this summer is going to be so hot that just going for potty breaks will be too
tough on them. We have them all under a/c during the day, most are then moved
to covered dog runs with giant fans late at night after the temperature falls for exercise.
The real old guys are under a/c 24x7 except for potty break walks.
I just received an email from a person living in Clarksville, TN who left his Bully outside
Wednesday and when he got back home it was dead. He wanted me to keep warning people.
We off and running this morning for walks and moving the Bullies before it gets too warm. It's
already 71 and the sun is just now coming up.
Take care and have a good weekend. - Judy

Thank You, to all of you who send emails of condolence. Yesterday was a sad day for us so
we weren't very productive, just did what "had" to be done and last night we didn't get
much sleep because Sweetie kept barking to be with her puppies, although we had just had
them with her. Finally we realized the reason she was barking is because one of them kept
whining in his sleep. Having read that, it should come as no surprise that we are headed
back to bed. We’ve been up and working since 5, ate breakfast on the run and decided it
took too much energy to make and drink coffee, now aren't we pitiful!!
We're trying hard to look on the positive side of life and be thankful that Pepper didn't
suffer, but sometimes tears get in the way. It's a good thing we have the Bully pups which
make us smile, through the tears.
Hope you are having a good day!!! - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and
other creature for the last 50 years, we will have to assume she was five years old
before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing
and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She
had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight
yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect
her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed
behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life
changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and
became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were
robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the
country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
