I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.

Happy Leap Day!!!

Yesterday ended as a "feel good day". The lady I wrote about earlier this month who was in desperate need of money, has experienced a minor miracle, which has increased the quality of her life greatly.

As I stated prior, she told me in a email that her gas bill was outrageous and it was so cold in her house that she was having to stay bundled up in a blanket. I suggested she had a gas leak and advised her to turn off all gas appliances and then check the meter to see if it was still running ... yes it was and at a rapid pace.

She called the gas company. They verified the leak and immediately cut off the gas to her house and advised her to get a plumber. She came down with the flu or a horrible cold, fever, chills, etc. She called plumber after plumber but only got one to come out to give her an estimate ... between $500 and $1,500, while professing to be a devout Christian. There was no way she could pay the lower price much less the $1500. The gas company agreed to relay the gas pipe to her old, old house to facilitate the plumbing repair, new pipe connections, etc. While the pipe laying crew was there she told them how much the plumber was going to charge her, etc. One of the men told her not to worry he would get her gas turned on for her ... she had been using an electric space heater and a single burner electric hot plate which were causing her electrical fuses to blow.

As we all know, many people promise to do nice things but never get around to actually doing it. The man working for the gas department, whom I refer to as her Angel, came through. The gas was turned back on but he red tagged and cut off the gas to her water heater and advised her to call a plumber to repair it because it was leaking. She now has a small gas heater and a gas cook stove working, but a gas bill close to $500.

She got different plumber to check out the water heater, he told her she has to have new one, plus her toilet was leaking under the house and it would rot out her floor. Three ladies had asked me how they could help, therefore I got the gas company address and her account number. They donated $50 each direct to the gas company. The 3rd lady lives in Canada and had to call the gas company to inquire how she should go about donating money due to exchange rate, etc. In the process, she told them a little about the situation. They were so impressed that friends from so far away were concerned that they, the gas company, also donated money. The gas company customer service representative told our friend, that the situation was a first for them.

She has always kept children to make money but the last 3 years her health has prevented her earning enough to put any back for emergencies. I sent her a heavy warm wool cape and a warm gown, plus a little money which she received yesterday. I got an email last night updating me. Although she needs a water heater and a washing machine, her old one stopped working several weeks ago, she said somehow she would manage, maybe she could find used appliances. Her spirit has been renewed and she said she felt now she could go forward.

When I read her email I felt great joy for her because I know ... for a few days she was so sick she thought she would die and for a few she hadn't cared if she did because her future looked so bleak. - Judy

Bob took 21 pictures of the puppies this morning after they finished eating mushy food. Please ignore the food they got all over themselves. I've posted them

I couldn't help but take a few pictures and I decided to share a few of them with you instead of going staight to bed.

Eve & Jazzman's Puppies Born 1/26/2008

Wednesday - February 27, 2008 6:45 PM
I've been going in 3rd gear and working really hard today. I've finally sat down and it won't be long before I'm headed for the bed. I've fed puppies and cleaned up poop to the point I thought I would drop. They are to the point of playing, but if not monitored very closely they will get too rough, so I've started in telling them "NO" and hold the mouth of the offending pup for a second so it will realize that biting is not acceptable. By the time they go to their new parents, they will have a clear understanding of "no". Matter of fact, I believe I nipped the rough play in the bud today. They only did it early morning, I took immediate action and didn't have any biting this afternoon.

Inbetween taking care of the puppies, I cooked chicken legs and quarters. With part of it I cooked Bob and I Chicken Pot Pie and with the remainder made "doggie chicken stew". The cats smelled it cooking so they hung around the back door to the point of me tripping over them on my many trips outside, shaking puppy poop off sheets, walking the grown bullies and asking Bob to taste the pie filling. Before we came up we caught the "strays that came to stay" and locked them in their den for the night because it's going to be really cold. Locking them in is the only way to have the comforter totally cover their den and it will also keep them from waking me up in the middle of the night barking at boogers. I'm much in need of a good night's sleep and Bob offered to take puppy duty tonight. Mr Cat like to have caused me to tumble off the porch, when he ran across my path as I went to get Fluffy. When I called her name to "go up" she dashed around the corner of the porch, but waited to see if I would follow, when I did she gave in to being put up. Silly Goose, I had to pick her up and carry her back to her den, maybe that's the part she likes. lol

Gracious, I made so many entries to this journal yesterday that I forgot to do one for today. Today I played catch-up with dirty dishes, dirty dog beds and dirty floors ... I'm going to have to spend more time on those floors since all the critters, plus Bob are tracking in mud faster than I can clean it up.

I could not force myself to start in on reviewing applications to be puppy parents, my crystal ball still has a dim light, but maybe tomorrow morning it will be bright. Beware I've talked to two people within the last 3 days who were breeders of Pit Bulls, that are now wanting to get into raising English Bulldogs. Don't buy a puppy from a person whom you don't feel you would want as a friend. I have a couple of really nasty emails from English Bulldog breeders, whom I didn't know previously and if you read them you would want to make sure you didn't get a pup from them .... of course they will ship their pups anywhere.

I hope your tomorrow will be sunshine bright. - Judy

Sleepy & PepperJack's 12/13/2002 Litter

Hi Judy, Hope all's well with you and Bob! It's been a while, but I try to keep up with your journal online and noticed the little guys- we've been considering a sister for Shark for a few years now and haven't felt comfortable looking for a bully at another breeder... thought I'd write you and ask whether you'd consider shark as a brother to one of your new bullies.

Since Shark celebrated his 5th birthday in December ( I CANNOT BELIEVE IT) I'd want to ask you some questions first about whether 5 is too old, in your opinion, to get him a sibling- we're really considering, but want to be sure it's the right thing for him. He's just wonderful, playful as ever and sweet as can be. He's my baby though, he's a real mama's boy, follows me everywhere- sleeps with me on the couch, us in our bed- basically, he's spoiled rotten! But, I knew when I first picked him up this would happen.

Anyway, let me know what you think or whether this is smart or not from past experience. I also should tell you, we're in Chicago and we moved in 8 months ago to a house with a great little yard for Shark and he just loves it!

I've attached some pictures of him from this year so you can see what he's been up to! - beth

I saved the best picture for last, isn't it a hoot!! They have decided to get a puppy this summer when Eric is off from work to train it. - Judy

Hi Judy & Bob
I can't help checking out your website from time to time and reading about your adventures. I tried to post this picture of Ozzy but didn't succeed - he is the son of Elvis and Sassy and I can't believe he's going to be 6 years old this June. I do believe he has us all trained exactly the way he likes :). Thank-you again as I don't know what we'd do without him. Sincerely....Lisa & the boys

Oh I know that look he's giving you in the 2nd picture!!! It means, "humans are so hard to train". I dearly loved my Sassy T, his mother. She passed away in 2006 and took a piece of my heart with her. Thank you so very much for the update and the pictures!!! - Judy

Hi Judy,
It's hard to believe that our Lulu will be 3 on the 20th of this month. We just wanted to thank you for brightening our lives by allowing us to care for such a sweet girl. Lulu now has a little brother, Max, and she can't wait until he's old enough to play. Hope all is well.

Good Morning, Good Morning!!

I took yesterday OFF!! Other than doing those chores that had to be done, I spent my time reading, a method I use to clear my mind of all negative feelings.

Fortunately for me, there are only a few people in my 60 years on this earth who have treated me so shabbily that I refuse to interact with them again, however last week one such person's name kept surfacing in odd ways then finally they appeared expressing a desire to be part of my life again. It was very stressful for me to turn them away but I did.

Now with a clear head and loving heart, I must review the many Puppy Parent Applications I have waiting in my inbox and turn on my crystal ball so I'll know which situation is best for Rhythm & Melody. My crystal ball doesn't work when I'm stressed.

Remember to always do what's best for yourself and those you love, please don't allow negative people and circumstances to weight you down.

Needless to say I didn't win money in the Lottery. Although it was fun and I did break even, I'll not be doing it again anytime soon. Lucy only comes out every 6 months or so. (Lucy as in Lucille Ball in the "I love Lucy" television series.)

Goodness, Bob had been up with the "babies" of which I was only vaguely aware, but a few minutes later, he woke me up snoring in my ear, now I can't go back to sleep. For us having a litter of puppies is like having a newborn baby, right down to mixing the formula. I've taken some random pictures which I will post tomorrow. - Judy

Signing off tonight with a cute story. I had Li'l Cookie out to potty and when we came onto the back porch returning to the house, she spotted Boomer, "stray that came to stay" in his "den" (big crate with bedding and covered with a comforter except for the door which is open ). She stuck her nose in and I heard a low grumble from Boom, she bounced back out, then her head went back in. Bob came out on the porch to see what was taking so long and I told him Li'l was about to get a lesson in manners from Boomer, "don't come into my den unless I invite you". We were standing to the side so couldn't see exactly what she was doing, but Boomer got increasingly loud. Li'l would jump back do a little two or three step, then do it again. Bob leaned as far forward as possible without interrupting their situation ... Li'l was licking Boomer on his nose. Oh Lordy, she just couldn't understand why he would be upset with her for giving kisses. lol lol lol

All the Bullies from the Cookie bloodline are firmly convinced that kisses can cure anything. - Judy

Friday - February 22, 2008 7:30 AM
Do you dance??? I don't mean go out to clubs or that kind of thing, I mean just around the house. Bob and I dance!! If an old time rock 'n roll song that we really like comes on the radio, we break out in both song and dance and then there are the tender moments of courtship slow songs, which causes us to start slow dancing in the middle of the kitchen floor. Some of the critters join in and some bark at us out of jealously, but we all end up having fun.

Good Morning!! I'll be back later. - Judy

Thursday - February 21, 2008 6:30 PM
I acted like Lucille Ball today, I told Bob I felt lucky, so I took the 3 $1 bills on my desk, bought 3 $1 scratch off tickets, won $13. I had no idea what I was doing but it was time to play the Lottery with the winnings, so after the man in front of me bought his, I told the lady at the cash register "I want what he got" ... ended up being 5 "Lotto 5" tickets and 5 "Powerball" tickets for a total of $10. Here I sit with my original investment of $3.

If I win there is a lady who won't have to worry about where she's going to get the money to repair her leaking gas line ... gas company cut off the gas to her house. She told me her gas bill was way high but her house was cold. Long story short I told her to cut off all gas appliances and if the meter was still running she had a leak ... she had a leak, a bad one.

Send positive thoughts that my Luck will hold out until at least the Lotto 5 drawing tomorrow night, she is in desperate need of money. I believe in miracles and I believe the Good Lord works in mysterious ways, but I never thought about Him approving of gambling. lol lol We'll see. - Judy

Thursday - February 21, 2008 2:00 AM
The next couple of weeks will be highlighted by "odd hour can't go back to sleep ramblings". I was so exhausted, that I crawled into bed around 7 PM then we were up with puppies at 9:30 PM. I bolted from bed an hour or so ago because my legs were hurting so bad. I don't understand this leg hurting bit ... the doctor says mild arthritis but ... it only hurts every once in a while which leads me to think maybe the potassium level is off or something of that nature.

Oh I forgot that I went to the "big city" with Bob late afternoon and did a good bit of walking around at Walmart and other stores, I can't just stop at one, I have to hit them all. lol lol So OK it's the price I pay for having fun shopping. I can deal with that. All this just proves that I need to "shop more". - Hugs, Judy

Wednesday - February 20, 2008 5:15 AM
Now that growing season is near, I've made a decision that I'm going to sit back and watch other people get Seed Mania, Spring Fever, Tropical Obsession and then go Bulb Crazy. lol lol Aren't those cute expressions I've made up!!

I "Winter sowed" Kale and turnip seeds and they have sprouted already, afterward we had a frost but the tiny seedlings are just fine. I like these greens cut at soil level with kitchen shears and lightly stir fried or chopped into tiny pieces and added to a salad. In order to grow the turnip roots sandy loose soil is needed, we have clay soil so they won't produce good roots. An interesting thing about Kale is cold temperatures won't kill it, not even a covering of snow, but it will go to seed and die in our hot Summer.

Awaken by puppies at 4:30 AM, after feeding them I'm on my way back to bed for a nap. - Judy

Yesterday was a sad, sad day for me, but hopefully I've given myself an attitude adjustment therefore my outlook is brighter today, or maybe it was lovin' on the puppies. lol I took 22 pictues of the puppies eating their 2nd plate of mushy food. I suppose I should have used a video, but these pictures are so cute. Click Here to see them. Lots of pictures causes a webpage to be slow opening so I created another page to display the ramdom shots.

I'm in the process of uploading current individual pictures of all the pups, but it takes a long time to process them, therefore I've only gotten the pictures of males updated so far this morning Click Here to see them.

We're sad this morning, 12 year old Big Red, died in his sleep last night.

Bob is uploading the last of the puppy videos and I'll be back in a little while to post a link so you can view them.

Ramblin Man, Drummer Man & Harmony have been reserved by people who already have one of my Bullies. I'm in discussions with another person who has one of our Bullies about Honkytonk Man. She's had back surgery therefore she's trying to determine if she will be well enough to take care for him by his release date of 3/22. - Judy

Yuck, I've been up with puppies and now I can't go back to sleep. Bob even rubbed my back which normally works.

We had company late yesterday afternoon, family of four. The young children were totally enjoying Dumpy and Boomer. Too much attention going to the boys to suit Fluffy, she who must be obeyed. She called the boys to attention and off they went on a hunt. I called "kitty, kitty" and back they came. Then it was a test of wills, as she lead them off down the drive in a supposed "hunt". Meanwhile the children were wanting Boomer to "hug them up tight". Boomer is a mess. Li'l Cookie was too much of a hunk to supersede Boomer, but they were enthralled with Melanie. She had such good manners. - Judy

Sunday - February 17, 2008 9:30 PM
I have things sorted out as best I can right now. There are 6 puppies in Eve's litter and 3 maybe 4 have been reserved by people who already have one of my "babies". I don't feel bad, because I did warn them when they got their first puppy that they were addictive and there was a 70% chance that they would be back for a 2nd one. lol lol

People who already have one of my bullies are automatically approved and receive preferential treatment. I have 120 emails in my inbox so if I have overlooked a present PuppyGal owner wanting one of these puppies, please let me know ASAP. Tomorrow, I'm going to post for the public information on the babies, but I will not be taking reservations until I have sorted through all the pending applications to be a puppy parent ... I can't believe how many there are. - Judy

Can there be golden words that roll off someone's tongue that will make a difference in the future of the person hearing them ... most definitely and I try so very hard to find them, but normally they come out of my mouth unexpectly, maybe one of God's Angels whispering in my ear.

Saturday - February 16, 2008 7:30 PM
I'm trying really hard to let people experience the "tender moments" via video.

I'm doing a narrative but in the background you will hear Li'l Cookie, Eve, the cockatiels and the Sun Conure .... it's Animal House here.

Several years ago here was a cockatiel breeder who said she was just going to turn them loose, so stupid me I said I'll buy 10 of males from you ... males are the singers ... oops Nappy was born, thankfully he is the only one. The female she sneaked in on me was only slightly fertile, Thank the Good Lord.

Blaze the Sun conure was at a Flea Market. The person wanted $150 for him and told me outright that he was mean .... I've rescued dogs for 50 years and that bird just didn't look mean to me. So I wandered around the flea market, bought a big cage, went back to the person and asked what is the bottom dollar he would take ...$75. I asked if that included transferring the bird to the new cage and it did. Within 2 weeks Bob had Blaze taking an "in the shell peanut out of his mouth" (Bob's mouth ... yuck, yuck) I didn't mention that at the time I was so afraid of birds, attacked by a bluejay when I was young and some of the bigger parrots can break a person's fingers with their beaks.

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
