Puppy Gal Welcomes You To

Judy's Journal....

I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.

Good Morning!!!
We had to run into town to get anchors for the canopy which covers the outside dog runs, because the high winds blew it off and onto the cars. What a mess and there is no insurance to cover the damage to my 20 year old Volvo, but we're moving forward. While in town I had to run into the County Co-op after all I am an admitted "seed addict". For under $3 I got large packages of tomato, 2 types of squash and sugar baby watermelon seeds. lol lol I like having the seeds ready to plant if the possibility presents itself, but these are BIG packages of seeds, hopefully some will hold over until next year!

Also while Bob was gone to get the anchors, I found a table full of plants which were not in good enough condition to sell so they were marked 75% off. I got 2 orchids which I think are in good enough condition to revive. I can't believe I'm going to try to grow Orchids .... but Bob loves them and returned just in time to encourage me to get them. He thinks instead of having a green thumb that I have totally green hands and can make anything live. lol lol

I'm off to clean up after the puppies now that they have finished eating. I have plans to take pictures and post them a little later today. - Judy

Tuesday - 02/27/2007 9:30 AM

The sun is out and the high is forecasted to be 71F. What a day!! I have a long list of things I need to do both inside and outside of the house, plus I need to contact the new owners of Sugar's puppies so they can pick them up this weekend.

We're off to cook and eat brunch which will consist of ham with scrambled eggs and toast. After that we'll be outside working. Take care and if you're not a plant person, please give careful consideration to becoming one!! - Judy

Total number of visitors for yesterday was 855.

Monday - 02/26/2007 3:21 PM

As of 3:21 PM the website has had 790 visitors!!

Monday - 02/26/2007 Noon

Only two more days left in this month!! For me it has certainly gone by fast.

I've declared today as a day of rest, we're only doing what has to be done; taking care of the puppies, walking and feeding the grown bullies, preparing our meals, washing and drying our clothes and "our gang's bedding". Mercy I might get to sit down just as the sun goes down. lol lol

When I saw my face in the pictures Bob took of me at Angelica's pickup, I knew I had spent too much time riding in the van, for some reason it causes water retention. I have diuretics to take and when I decided the legs I was looking at, were attached to my body but definitely were not mine, I took half of one before going to bed. I wouldn't post the pictures, until Bob blocked me out. Is that vanity talking, or what!! I've never bother much with what I look like, but those pictures looked just like one of two people in this world that I do not like, so I wasn't about to post them.

At 11:30 AM, I took a look at the number of visits for today and we've already 517 people had stopped by. Who would have ever thought in 1999 that we would have over a 1000 visitors in one day. We are in the process of getting a new daily average, when we last did this is was 800 per day.

I hope your week has started off good!! - Judy Monday - 02/26/2007 10:00 AM

Annabelle Goes To Her New Home!

We met Adam and his father in Senatobia, MS to deliver Annabelle! They had come clear from Southern Louisiana through Mississippi to pick up Annabelle... It was very windy and had cooled off considerablely. Adam had to hold his puppy in the car for the photos...
Annabelle is the daughter of Petunia and The Jazzman and she is shy but beautiful! Her disposition is more like her mother's (quiet, loves to be held and gives kisses!) than her father's (king of the roost!). Annabelle took to her new daddy right away...

Note: I had Big Daddy block me out of the last two pictures... I looked like a piglet.

Sunday - 02/25/2007 12:30 PM

The Buttercups and Daffodils are in bloom. The shrubs and trees are leafing out. All of the plants think it's Spring. I surely hope we don't get a killing frost!!!

Otis Goes To His New Home!

We met Ricky and Allison in Arkansas to deliver Otis! They had come clear from Texas and we drove through rain and wind so that they could have their new baby... The rain had stopped but it was very windy...
Otis is the son of Petunia and The Jazzman and he is beautiful! His disposition is more like his mother (loves attention and gives kisses!) than his father (king of the roost!). As you can tell by the photos, both new parents love their little English bulldog puppy...

Sunday - 02/25/2007 10:00 AM

Wooo Doggie, what a storm we had last night. Several times I thought for sure the tornado was at our back door. Fortunately, all is well. The only damage is the washing away of mulch, soil and seeds from some of the flower beds. It rained so hard for so long that the yard area was flooded and I was very much worried about the possibility of it coming into the back door. We've got to dig out the drainage ditches again because the flooding cause them to fill with leaves and soil.

I have pictures to post and more to tell you, but the "babies" are calling just now. Have a peaceful Sunday and please say a prayer for Georgine who is fighting cancer. You can read about her further down the page. The entry dated February 8, is about her and includes her email from 2/6. - Judy

Saturday - 02/24/2007 7:30 AM

I slept hard last night ... Yesterday I woke up at 5 AM finally got up about 6 AM and worked until 7 PM answering emails, answering the phone (another scam operation has been identified and they are supposedly using Jazzman's picture) posting pictures of our "babies" from their new owners and taking care of the puppies. At 7 PM I told Bob I had to go to bed, I was exhausted.

This morning we've had a cup of coffee, the puppies have been feed and now I must go clean up their pool and cook us some breakfast.

Meanwhile, Bob is walking and feeding the grown Bullies. Yesterday morning when I glanced out the window I saw Noel, sneaking off toward the driveway, ready to make a get-away. She's such a sneaky little brat. She's so sweet and loving that we tend to forget her 2 week disappearance act of last summer. When Bob caught up with her and scooped her up into his arms, I could just hear her say "but the donkey is lonesome". The bellowing donkey use to occupy the pasture up the road.

For those of you who do not know Noel, a few days after she was born we noticed a cyst on the side of her neck, it was expressed and healed well. When she was 3 weeks old I noticed a slight tilt to her head one day and the next her left eye socket erupted. At this point we had a choice of having her put down or doing our best until she was old enough to have the eye removed. Her eye was removed at 5 weeks of age, but at 7-8 weeks old I noticed the left side of her body was not developing like the other side, but her tongue was big enough and long enough for a hound dog's mouth. lol lol Again we made the decision to give her the best opportunity we could to live a health, happy life. She is a spoiled BRAT but so very funny.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!! - Judy

Judy,
I just wanted to THANK you for the info on Malaseb. My bully, Lily, suffered from terrible skin allergies for the entire summer. I took your advice and started with the Malaseb shampoo and pledgets ( Malaseb medicated wipes) and she hasn't had one problem since! It has saved me a fortune in vet visits and expensive medications but most importantly she is in perfect health and not itchy. I love the wipes because they are perfect for cleaning bully wrinkles. Take care!

Thank you Wendy for the feedback, it is greatly appreciated. - Judy

I stumbled onto your website by accident. I have been sitting here for an hour reading it now.I am amazed by the person you obviously are. Angles story made me cry!! I am glad that there are people like you out in the world. I hope you know what a special person you are.

Samantha,
Thank you for your kind words. Whenever I think about Angel, tears overflow onto my cheeks. She was truly a remarkable companion, canine or otherwise. I just wish I could be more like her, she was a friend to any animal in need. - Judy

Friday - 02/23/2007 7:30 AM

Good Morning!!!
I laid in the bed for an hour before hauling myself out and then only because Bob had gone downstairs to make coffee and feed the puppies. Our bedroom is on the second floor so he brought me up a cup of coffee and a small plate of "healthful" oatmeal cookies. Lazy today aren't I and isn't Bob ever so sweet!!!

Emails I have posted earlier in the month, have been on my mind so I went to the trouble of writing an article on Aggressive Behavior which pertains to all breeds of dogs.

- English Bulldog Behavior Problems: Aggressive Behavior

Reminds me of a telephone call .... I used to answer the telephone every time it rang and got some of the craziest phone calls but also some which were enjoyable. One day a man called in a panic, he had gone on the Internet and started calling English Bulldog breeders hopeful to find one to assist him with a problem. He started out rather breathless he had just gotten home from work and was faced with big trouble .... his male English Bulldog had pulled the drapes off the living room windows and he knew he wife was going to throw them both out of the house, meanwhile he was trying to find out why in the world his dog had done this. I asked if he played "tug" with his dog and his answer was yes. I asked if the tug play was on a regular basis and lasted long enough to make his dog tired, yes was the answer every afternoon when he got home from work. I asked if it was with a bath towel, again his answer was yes. Then I said, "your Bully simply started playing without you". It is your fault and the only thing I can suggest is that both you and the Bully get down on your hands and knees to plead for mercy and promise never to play "tug" again.

It's time to clean up after the pups, take care and have a wonderful weekend. - Judy

Thursday - 02/22/2007 10:30 AM

When the multitude of American Lotus seeds arrived via FedEx I wasn't really prepared and all I have to say is .... never ever get on eBay when you have a temperature/fever of 102F, it's just like being drunk. Later that night when I had gotten the temp under control, I said "oh no" I hope I don't win all I bid on. I didn't get the high, need to underline that high, priced philodendrons (Thank Goodness) but I got the lotus seeds and it was one of those Dutch auctions where I bid one price for one lot or 10. I went so far as to bid on all 10 lots. I have Lotus seeds galore but they are viable for years. Now when my temp starts going up, after taking medicine, I crawl into the bed with a book!!! lol lol

The events of Tuesday included more seeds. Bob had rushed doing chores so we could go to the vets, but it turned out to be unnecessary. Since he has finished with the chores, showered and dressed for going out, he wanted to at least go to town and shop around. He hooked me by saying it was time to start seeds. I am an admitted "seed addict" and since I had a low grade fever I wasn't going to do any work around here besides taking care of the puppies and I rationalized riding in a car couldn't make my fever go higher.

First stop was the County Co-op where I told them I wanted a dipper full of Sweet Banana Pepper seeds. I thought the dipper was about like a 1/4 teaspoon, well the man used a dipper about the size of 1/8 cup!! I couldn't use this many seeds if I was growing them for market. Good news is they were only about $.75, less than half the price of a package bought at a big box store which would contain 12 seeds. I also got a large number of Kale, purple top turnips, White tip Radishes and spinach seeds .... feeding my addiction here. All these seeds only cost me $3. lol lol At our next stop I discovered a absolutely wonderful price on LARGE bags of dog food and you know the rest of that story.

Bob laughed and said we should make a run to the casinos because I sure was lucky, but we didn't go any further than home. - Judy

Wednesday - 02/21/2007 10:25 AM

This 60 year old whirling dervish needed to have spent yesterday resting, but instead it was spent on the road transporting dog food. We accidently came across a "real deal", one time offer. We came home, unloaded the first bags, opened one and checked it out just to make sure there wasn't a problem, then off we went for a second load. We bought all they had in stock, 15 large bags, plus we had just bought that much over the weekend because it was on sale. Now if someone was giving it away, we couldn't take any more, because there is no place to put it. lol lol

Puppies are doing great, growing like weeds and I've got to make arrangements with their "new parents" to pick them up, which I will be doing today.

Take care of yourself today and remember to tell your friends and family how much you care. - Judy

Tuesday - 02/20/2007 6:25 AM

Up and going strong this morning, just taking time out for a cup of coffee, a "health" cookie and to update you all on the happenings here.

The first picture is of an Amaryllis blooming in the house, it also bloomed around Christmas. The second picture is of the Kangaroo Paw Fern I bought on Sunday.

Most of what is going on is feeding puppies, changing out their bedding (sheets), washing and drying same. Everyone wants to know how I can give the puppies up to another person. Well, if they were here cleaning up after them right now, they would understand. lol lol BUT laugh, Gracious how they make us laugh.

Please understand that Star a.k.a Otis is the largest and more mature of the puppies therefore he gets all the "press". We have to put him in a the largest rubbermaid container Lowe's stocks at night because he will get out and roam the house. He especially has a thing about pooping where he sleeps so he jumps out at night and leaves me surprises to step in first thing in the morning in my sock-feet. Now that I have the background established, I'll continue. This morning we're changing out the bedding, Bob has been holding Otis because he just so darn cute. Bob put him in the pool with the other pups and almost immediately Otis is out and with us in the kitchen. When Bob turned on the water to add to the already soaked puppy food, Otis knows what's happening and barks as if to say, I want some. Bob said, well come along and there goes Otis scrambling to get into the pool before the other pups get a headstart on eating. He is the smartest little puppy. lol lol

I'm off to take the puppy bedding from the washer and put it in the dryer, both appliances will be in use most of the day, plus we have an extra washer in the covered dog run area which will be in use all day since the forecast is for a high of 63F, our temperature bobs up and down this time of the year.

My thought for today is: Make the most of today and act like the person I want to be remembered as, should something happen to me today. - Judy

Monday - 02/19/2007 7:30 AM

Yesterday we made a run into Tupelo, MS for dog food and while there I had to spent a few minutes at Home Depot, Lowe's & Wal-Mart looking at house plants ... and yes I bought one hanging basket, a Kangaroo Paw Fern. I hadn't seen one before and was sure I would never see one as big as this one again for $15. Once home I checked eBay and found a much smaller one with a "buy now" price of $29.99, plus shipping. I have always been super cheap in regard to money spent on my plants, preferring to get cuttings, root them myself or trade for plants, but I've changed. I decided to indulge myself just a little and I'm very selective.

Since I've been sick, poor Bob has had to do everything including taking care of me so things have piled up. I've been trying to find Bob a temporary helper. I may have found a person who works for a saw mill, but is only working part-time at present. The only problem is he doesn't know until he reports to work, if they are working that day, so we'll not have advanced notice of when he will be here to help.

We have a patio couch to move from an upstairs room down to the porch, a patio dinning table to move out of the downstairs bedroom onto the porch, computer equipment to move upstairs, plus the back porch is stacked up with items I want moved into the house and all this work takes two people but I'm not strong enough yet to help Bob.

I'm off to cook breakfast and start the laundry. I'm constantly changing out the puppy pool, you just would not believe the dirty puppy bedding. The plus side is they make me SMILE!! They were really sleepy this morning after breakfast but I got a couple of good shots. 1) Angelica & Star, 2 & 3 ) Chip Cookie.

Oh Yes, a new website adventure .. Bob bought audio software so he could record me reading this Journal and upload it to the website for you to listen. We don't know how it will go but we'll try it and see.

Live, love, laugh and be happy. - Judy

Sunday - 02/18/2007 5:30 AM

Good Morning, the puppies have been fed and we've sat down to drink a cup of coffee. It's 22F outside so none of the grown Bullies are wanting to "go out" and the "strays that came to stay" are snuggled up in a huge crate (Great Dane size) on the back porch. It's covered with 2 comforters and has a doggie heating pad at one end of the crate. I'm one of those "just in case" people, so I have a carefully arranged small vent just in case it gets too warm, accidents do happen.

Some how the audio is missing on the video. Probably just as good, but I really didn't care for you all hearing what I said. The problem we are having is upload time, the video had to be really shortened so it wouldn't "time-out" when attempting to upload.

I'm off to make breakfast, no I think we'll just nibble on these "healthful" coconut raisin oatmeal cookies Bob baked the other night, then eat brunch about 10 AM. I'm in the mood for tamales. I sure wish my friend who makes them so well would show up with a pan full, instead I'm afraid I'm destined to eat the canned variety.

Make the most of today, for you are making memories, good or bad, not only for yourself but those around you. - Judy

Saturday - 02/17/2007 10:00 AM

OK so we made one, it isn't the best but hopefully it will be the first of many more to come. Sneaky Bob didn't tell me he had the audio set to "On" so you'll be able to hear me try to tell him what to do and hear his response, nothing because he knew he had tricked me. lol lol

We should be posting it within 30 minutes or so. - Judy

Oops the upload failed becuse the file was too large, so Bob is trying to use additional video software to reduce the size. Time is 10:34 AM

Saturday - 02/17/2007 8:30 AM

Oh My!! I forgot to tell you what we did yesterday, sat at the vet's office for forever waiting. Can you imagine 5 puppies in the 3 buckets wait for 2 hours. I won't wait in the waiting room because someone could bring in a pup with a disease, so I claimed one of the examining rooms. As we waited I clipped toenails and such, the lighting was good and the puppies were trying to sleep. We were exhausted by the time we left. Bob was driving therefore I asked him to stop by the thrift store for just a minute, just for Judy. He said it was part of my Valentine's present. lol lol

I've been laughing at the news this morning and sent a complaint to CNN on one of their story headlines which I felt was absolutely inappropriate.

We're going to try to take a video today to upload to the website. We haven't tried to do this since the ones of Jeb walking, because it took up so much room, but technology has changed and we are on a new server with more disc space. Hopefully we will be back later today. - Judy

Friday - 02/16/2007 2:00 PM

Yesterday ended up being a good day and I was so pleased. Due to health reasons, I've only been out of the house 5 times since the end of September and 2 of those trips were to give away plants because I couldn't care for so many over the winter. Now I bet those of you, who know me well, know what I got for my Valentine's Day present, that's right another plant, well actually 2 plants. Philodendron "Silver" in a fancy pot at full price $9 and a hanging basket of same that I talked them into marking down to $5 because the overhead heaters were about to cook it, regularly it was $15. lol lol

I'll explain what all we did this morning in a minute, but I stopped for 5 minutes at a Thrift Store and paid $1 for this picture. It's really old, solid wood frame and I believe the style is what is called Art Deco. But what I really like about it is the colors and the fact that the flower is a lily and I have it growning in my garden. A very nice lady from the Texas Coast area sent it to me. As you can see it is setting in a chair so it's NOT a small picture.

Thursday - 02/15/2007 11:45 AM

Today is a silly day!!!

I've just slept 15 hours straight, even forgot to cook the rolls I had rising last night because I was so tired. My head hit that pillow and I was out like a light, until 10:30 AM this morning. I don't think Bob would appreciate me having an Energizer Bunny personality today, but that is what I feel like. It is obvious my batteries needed recharging. (See what did I tell you, silly!!)

First order of the morning was to drink a cup of coffee while reading the news. I easily slipped into a comic routine, making the news a hoot, which lead to grand fantasies of being the next Phyllis Diller. If you are too young to know who she is there is always Wikipedia, I'm sure she is listed. What a fun day this is going to be. - Judy

Happy Valentine's Day

If I hadn't gotten "Happy Valentine's Day" emails I would not have realized it was today. Is that pitiful or what!?! However I truly am one of those people who forgets all holidays. Before I left Corporate America, the ladies who worked for me said, we would like to take you out to lunch today. I responded by saying, "Is it Boss's Day?". They started laughing, it was my birthday. I had totally forgotten my own birthday!!

In the middle of the night, my fever broke, bottomed out at 96.7, my normal temperature which it has not been for months. I was so happy I couldn't go back to sleep. What a precious thing "good health" is and we don't truly realize it until it slips away.

I would do the Bully Butt Wiggle but I think that would be over doing it just a tad at this point. lol lol

I have to show you this picture of an acquaintance's Rattie. I think he is the cutest little critter and a long way from being your basic sewer rat. These little cute things cost a bit of money but only live 2 years or so. I'll go get the picture and be right back........

Dear Bob wanted to know what I wanted for a Valentine's Day present ... I told him how about a big bag of potting soil the next time we go to town, it's too cold to go anywhere today, it's 28F and it looks like the predicted high of 35F will not be felt.

Everything said and done, I am of the opinion that a smile is the best fashion statement you can make. - Judy

Tuesday - 02/13/2007 Noon

Good Afternoon!!
I'm taking it easy today, I did a little too much on Friday I suppose and the effort made my temperature go back up. This time I can't seem to get it back down to normal, so I decided to do as little as possible and rest.

Puppies are doing fine, they have had their first puppy shot and will be ready for their "well puppy physical" tomorrow. We like for it to be in their system for at least 3 days before taking them into the vet's, because that is where people take their sick dogs and heaven forbid they should get one of the 7 deadly puppy virus.

It rained early this morning and the sky is overcast and it feels like rain could start again any moment. This is the forecast according to WeatherUnderground:
"Rest of Today - Breezy. Showers and isolated thunderstorms. Cloudy. Highs in the upper 50s. Temperature falling into the upper 40s in the afternoon. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph becoming Northwest. Wind gusts to near 25 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 90 percent."

I'm sure glad we had the propane gas tanks "topped off" last Thursday. Stay warm, stay dry and stay happy. - Judy

Monday - 02/12/2007 1:30 PM

Last night after they finished eating (that's soaked Puppy Chow you see in the pictures) the puppies were acting so cute. Otis is the only one who can climb from the kiddy pool into the smaller buckets and he does frequently. Chip so wants to be with him and tries to crawl over. These pictures were made after Chip accidently got into the smaller tub, Cherry came up behind him and gave him a nudge. He was so shocked to find himself going head first into the small pool, but he liked it!!

I hope the pictures made you laugh!!! - Judy

Sunday - 02/11/2007 11:20 AM

It's still morning but the only work I've done is to clean and feed puppies. Here are two pictures of my favorite males, Bob & Peanut.

More than anything this morning, I believe I'm in a little bit of shock. A woman who was very unkind to me for no reason I could think of, has contacted me wanting some American Lotus seed I have up for trade, I want old Iris. Just goes to show some people can be really rude and don't have a clue they are being that way, or maybe they're like what people say about Ducks, wake up to a new world every morning. Oh well, I just need to figure out how to avoid her. I don't want the Iris she is offering and I thought about just giving her some seeds, but then she would think I'm her friend and keep emailing me. It's probably best I just tell her, I already have Iris similar to the one's she is offering, which come to think of it I do. I'm looking for Iris shaped like the below, in solid or almost solid colors:
If you have extras, please let me know. - Judy

Saturday - 02/10/2007 7:30 AM

Good Morning!!!

The puppies are making me laugh this morning. This is what I wrote to the new mother of Otis a.k.a Petunia's Star

To: Allison
Get ready!!! Today I was watching the puppies eat just in case, I'm a mother hen. Well after Otis got through eating he let out the loudest belch. I couldn't believe it came from a puppy. Then I heard loud snoring .. you guessed it Otis again. Girl buy you some ear plugs!! So very funny. Just wait I bet the passing gas is coming next. He is adorable, well not because he does all the above but because he has the cutest facial expressions, is chubby, loads of wrinkles etc. You are going to love him.

I hope you all are having a good weekend. It's cold, wet and cloudy here, so I'm going to make a big pot of veggie soup for Brunch. - Judy

Friday - 02/09/2007 12:33 PM

We're down to one available puppy, Sugar's Cherry Cookie and she's precious.

Friday - 02/09/2007 8:00 AM

I posted more pictures of Sugar's puppies on the front page of the website last night. Click the "Home" link on the Table of Contents Listing on the right side of this screen to go see them.

Kathy, who has one of my "babies" sent this in an email yesterday and I do think it is another way of saying "Life is too short to deal with ugly acting people!"

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Have a good weekend and don't let other people feed your Evil Wolf. - Judy

Beautiful Bullies! I have a 9 month old male bully that was recently diagnosed with skin allergies but to what, they have no idea! We have tried all the steriod injections and oral prednisone, also oral Benadryl. We also have been bathing him in Oatmeal shampoo and a "scrub" the vet gave us and absolutely nothing seems to be working. Do you have any advice for us? We're getting kinda desperate! Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thank You, - Shayna

Date: 2/8/2007 - Judy's Response

Shayna,
I believe 85% of the time skin issues can be resolved by using Malasab Medicated Shampoo. Your regular vet probable has it in stock, but if not get them to write a prescription so that you can purchase it from a online Pet Supply Store such as www.valleyvet.com. In my opinion there is no better medicated shampoo.

I have written an article and posted it on the website English Bulldog Skin Issues
In particular I'm curious if it is the Puppy Impetigo (Puppy Pyoderma, Juvenile Pustular Dermatitis), a link to which is on the above webpage.

Get back with me if the skin does not show an improvement after using the Malaseb. At that point I will need pictures of the area and a full description of the rash, where it is on her body, any medication she is on now, etc. - Judy

Hello...I wanted to contact you to inquire about pricing...and availability for April...Are your males priced the same as females...Do you think a plesant little male pug would be a good companion for a male bulldog? thank you...

Jennie,
Excuse me but I have to get right to the point because I have so many emails to answer. We will not have any available puppies in April nor do I place my "babies" in homes with small pets, like a Pug. Just a note, most Pugs are hyper and trust me when I tell you that you don't want it teaching an English Bulldog Pup to be hyper.

Good luck in your search.- Judy

You seem to be a nutcase lady, I wouldn't place "your babies" in a home with YOU!!!

Drop the attitude and get a life

Note From Judy: Needless to say I didn't respond to her again, although for a few minutes I surely wanted to do so. lol lol

Dear Judy,
Sampson has gone to the bridge- things took a huge turn yesterday afternoon after getting the consult from the UT vet. Even though we have been at this for almost 3 months- I feel like I made the decision too quick--but they felt like the cancer was in his brain because of his behavior he was exhibiting. I had no idea that when I took him in yesterday for fluids that Tuesday night was going to be his last night at home. Even though he had one more night with us - and I do think he had a peaceful night in his favorite spot- the look in his eyes yesterday will haunt me forever. I just WISH I knew for sure-even though I told myself I would trust the UT vets consult- I am beating myself up that I did not have the means (financially or emotionally) to take him to UT and get a definitive diagnosis- but that would have been a minimum of $1500-and if it was a brain tumor then they could not have helped him. He so HATED the vet and the procedures- I hope I did what was right and good for him. I feel like a huge failure- It was absolutely horrible and I am questioning myself over and over again. I feel like a horrible person. I just pray he is at peace. Everything is so empty without him. Thank you for your prayers. - Stacie

Stacie Dear,
Please be assured you did the best you could for Sampson .... YOU LOVED HIM. There are many dogs as well as humans who are never loved, especially by a love as strong as yours.

Holding you close to my heart, desiring to take away all your negative feelings concerning your decision, for I know in my heart that you made the right decision out of love for him. - Hugs, Judy

Dear Judy,
Reading your Journal today was a real eye opener for me. I too was feeling sorry for myself and wondering how to get through another treatment (cancer). You made me remember how very Blessed I am. My husband Larry (my Bob) is always here for me understanding and encouraging. I have Family and Friends to support me and let me know daily how much they love me. When I am done with my treatment I will put in an application for one of your sweet babies. I know that I cannot even think to bring a puppy home now. I fell in love with Angelica the first day you posted her pictures. I know that she will be going to a good and loving home, and that maybe one day I will be lucky enough to adopt one of her sisters. Judy I know that no one can be strong all the time, but with the help of the Lord and our Loved ones we will welcome another day and be thankful for all that we have been blessed with. May God Be With You and Yours Always - georgine

P.S. I dont know if you noticed but I will not spell cancer with a capital c. It does not deserve it.

Date: 2/7/2007 - Judy's Response

Georgine,
Thank you for writing! Unfortunately I also noticed you didn't sign your name with a capital "G" but you are truly amazing for having the courage to send me this email.

So now tell me about your cancer, your treatments, etc. I had the lower lobe of my left lung removed many years ago due to a cancerous tumor, fortunately it was totally encased. Cancer is a "trip" no one can relate too unless they've been there.

Big Hugs - Judy

PS If it is OK with you I'm going to post your email, without your last name or email address, to my Journal tomorrow and ask for prayers. If you don't want me to do so please let me know tonight.

Judy, Thank you for the reply, I would be honored if you asked for prayers on you website.

You asked about my cancers. My first was in my twentys, cervical, surg. My second in my 40s breast, chemo and radiation. Now at 55 Thyroid due to the radiation from my breast cancer, I have had surg. and the big dose of radiation in pill form. I have to be completely isolated from everyone (including my animals) because I am radio active for about a month. I just found out that I have to do the pill again. I was pretty bummed because of the isolation and it makes me feel like I'm on chemo. But how lucky am I.!! I have a place at home that I can be isolated and not in the hosp. I have a Loving Husband and Son, and friends and family to support me. And now I am also in your prayers, I am truly Blessed.

Thank you again, May God Bless You and Keep You and Yours Always - georgine

I was reading your opinion about bullys and kids, and I do somewhat agree. I just recently bought a bully, she is now 10.5 weeks old, and as wild as a buck deer! LOL I also have 2 smaller children, ages 3 and 1. They all play together for a little while, then comes the chewing (as everyone knows, its a puppies nature). She likes to get my kids by their pant legs, shirts, or even skin! I have only had one accident to were she has brought the blood on my 3yr old. The people I got her from had small children in their home, and assured me that she would be great with other kids! Well, she is to an extent. I have found that bitter-apple helps...sometimes! But all in all, I love my puppy (Chyna-Rose is her name), and I think that my kids are starting to understand that shes little and its her nature and shes gonna nip, paw, bounce around, and have her lazy time! I really want to tell you, that I do not blame you at all for not placing your bullys in homes with small children. I support your decision 100%, and coming from a mom of 2 kids, and a mom of a bully, it can be really stressful watching over all 3 of them at the same time! Thanks for the wonderful website, and the useful info!

Date: 2/7/2007 - Judy's Response

Marlena,
Thank you for your email. I can't tell you how many people have cussed me for telling them I don't place my "babies" in homes with babies.

I have to say this, you need to immediately instill discipline and it's going to be tough. The puppy has to learn NOW not to chew on your babies. It is viewing them as siblings and that is how puppies normally play. The problem is it will grow quickly and you will have a serious situation.

We have a 5 pups now and when they start playing too hard, I take immediate action. I put my hand on them to hold them still, call their name and say NO in a low loud voice. After a couple of times, all I have to do is call their name and say no. Their attention is just about as long as your 1 year is, so they forget.

These are the things I have used in training:
1) spray water bottle to get a pups attention, say no, etc.
2) whistle to toot to get their attention, I have a special toot for you're in trouble and one for calling them in the house.
3) picking them up my the scuff of their neck, just enough to lift their front feet off the ground, say no, etc.

The pup will soon be biting hard enough to draw blood and really scare the kids if you don't take action NOW.

Good Luck,- Judy

Hi Judy,
I love to visit your website and read your daily happenings. I have asked you questions a few time before and you have always responded very graciously, I thank you for that. I have a bully named Tonka, he just turned one in January. This is my concern, Tonka is at home most of the time with his gradma and she has experience the following: Tonka has had what it seems like zeisures, per my mom this will start when Tonka seems as if he wants to cough or sneeze but he can't and rather seems as if he can't catch his breath then he will just become limp. my mom will then massage him until he becomes responsive again but as he does he will seem a bit "confused" then he will be back to normal. I am wondering if this is respiratory distress or if this is infact a seizure, as per my mom this seems to come out of the blue but does happen while he is being active. Any imput would be greatly appreciated. Karla

Date: 2/7/2007 - Judy's Response

Karla,
WOW it could be either and without being able to see him having one I couldn't even guess. What I would do is take him to the vet. I'm sure the first thing the vet will do is check his soft palate, if he doesn't I would tell him I wanted it to be checked and then I would consider finding another vet. The soft palate could be so long that it gets hung in his throat blocking his air passage and then he goes into a panic.

This is definitely a "go to the vet right away" kind of situation. - Judy

Sampson is not well- tried IV fluids and shot of predisone yesterday- last ditch effort that he would turn around. He did not eat again last night ( hasn't eaten since Saturday - and then I had medicated him to get him to eat He has gone from 76 pounds to 60 pounds!). The vet feels like there is something else going on- perhaps with his brain stem. I can't put him through any more. I have decided to put him to sleep today. It is killing me!!!! Please please pray for us!

I couldn't do it-Sampson is still with me. I am still not sure if this is right or not. ( I truly feel like he has no quality of life- and feel guilty for prolonging his. I have taken Sampson BACK in to the vet. She noticed some other things going on in Sam that we had not noticed before. He was pacing horribly at the vet- ( not sure if this is another symptom or just nerves from being there AGAIN- he HATES it there!!!!) She is putting a phone consult into a vet at UT. She will call me as soon as she knows anything. Thank you for your prayers. - Stacie

Subject: Re: Sampson-again

The good news is that when I picked him up yesterday from getting his fluids that the vet said she thought he was better from Monday!!! I had thought this too when I had gone home at lunch and was part of why I was having so hard of a time choosing to put him to sleep- but I had attributed those "looking better" thoughts to wishful thinking - so I didn't say that to his vet- I just told her I couldn't do i- and we had to do something else to try to help him. She said she had spent quite a bit of time with him yesterday and she thought that some of the signs from Monday ( the vacant look- tremors and him flinching when you petted him) where not there. She even stated that if she did not know that Sam had not been eating - she would think from his behavior he was a healthy dog !!!!!!! YEYAW!!! I am trying not to get excited- because I know he is not healthy( she has not seen him before he was acting strange from what was diagnosed as the Cushings- so she doesn't know my happy boy the way I do) but I am taking it as a GOOD SIGN!!!! Really no NEW news on Sampson- however Sampson's vet has called already this AM-(YEAH- she has become so much more responsive!!!!) She had still not heard from Dr. Mawby from UT-and has placed another call this AM and left her a message -(YEAH!!!!)

I am not holding my breath. But- today IS a new day and even though I questioned my decision yesterday, and I know that he still is a very sick boy I am confident in THIS moment I made the right decision to not put him down yesterday. Please keep us in your prayers (especially Chase- he is having a hard time- He thought that yesterday was THE day- and even though he DOES NOT want to LOOSE Sampson- I think he had already steeled himself to that emotionally and was prepared to deal with his grief- and move forward and now I have "flung" us back on the roller coaster again) - Stacie

Good Morning To Everyone!! We're working hard this morning. Bob fed the babies and a few minutes later I went to their pool to change out their bed, they were all laid out in funny positions sleeping. The picture would have been priceless but puppy mushy food was everywhere, including on them so I didn't take one, wish now I had.

Here is another picture of part of the living room. I tried to capture the warm feeling but I didn't do it justice. Snuggling into one of the big chairs with a cup of coffee, watching as the rising sun brightens the room is indeed a delightful experience. To answer a question from an email about the Bullies being allow in the living room, no they are not, we have kiddy gates up to keep them from entering that part of the house.

I'm off to upload emails into my computer and then answer as many as I can. I do so hope you all understand, for me to answer emails I have to be in a positive, rested state of mind. Hope your week is going well and that today holds something special for you. - Judy

You ever get to feeling sorry for yourself? Well I did. I kinda pouted Sunday & Monday, or as some would call it "I got the blues", all I did was take care of the puppies, which is a lot of work, and think about things. The who am I, where from here, kind of thing, that all normal people think of every once in a while. I came to the conclusion that I've got a great life, Bob to love me, Bullies to love on me and puppies to make me smile. Yes my physical abilities are becoming limited therefore there is too much work, BUT everyone should be as lucky as me.

I'm going to wake up in the morning, answer all the waiting emails so I can find my "babies" loving forever arms to hold them, clean a little on the house, cook a little and tell Bob how much I care about him more than once. See you in the morning. - Judy

Seed sprouting information - it's time to start sprouting some seeds inside for transplanting outside later. http://earthnotes.tripod.com/seeds.htm#top
Copy and paste the URL to go to the website. It's a little overwhelming for me so I know the new gardener will fell the same, but if you look up the "common name" of the what you are wanting to plant by doing a Google Search, you should be able to fine the Latin name, which is how the plants are listed on the above website. This is one of the most complete seed sprouting lists I've seen.

Today is a pooh day, but my soul is happy. Puppy interaction is making me smile and laugh out loud. Angelica loves to be held, snuggles right up in my arms and wants to stay right there, also she doesn't put up a fuss when I put her down. We have to be very careful not to spoil them with too much holding because then the new owners would have a terrible time with them crying to be held. Don't worry they get lots of "in pool" loving. Puppies are just like babies you can spoil them in a hurry and it isn't fair to the pup then when you have to ignore it to break a bad habit that you started. Remember that all new puppy owners!!!

The snow is gone and the ground is soggy but it's better than not being able to see where you are stepping. I swore I wouldn't say "I'm sick again" but so much for swearing. New blood tests came back with high ratings in areas which have serious implications, plus I continue to have an intermittent elevated temperature, but I'm determined to do what I have to do, as soon as these puppies are in the loving arms of their new parents.

(Don't you hate it when you're in a doctor's office and the nurse corrects you when you say "fever", cause that is what you've said all your life. I wanted to tell her it was not polite to correct a sick patient, she knew what I was trying to convey to her, but I had a fever and didn't want to talk any more than necessary. Too bad she didn't catch me on a high fever day, cause it makes me silly and no telling what I would have said.)

Crazy things have occurred recently:

1) Woman sent an email then left a phone message saying Martha Stewart wanted to do a 10 minute interview for the "Professional Woman" segment of her show. I thought the email was some kind of hoax so I deleted it. Then the phone message, it still could have been some type of scam, there are so many working on the Internet, so I deleted it.

2) Email inquiring if I wanted to sell the website, this I flushed also.

3) Email from Google asking if we wanted to be part of a Corporate Ad program, if so we would have to change the spacing on the webpages. That's the reason this page looks different.

Best we can figure for all this activity is my website gets a large number of visitors ... 1,191,084 since November 29, 1999. The website was my birthday present from Bob.

I'm off to finshing the wash, not working too hard today, only the basics. I hope you are having a good weekend. - Judy

Friday - 02/02/2007 8:31 AM

It's all white here, we had snow fall overnight, just enough to make everything look fresh and clean for a few hours anyway. The "strays that came to stay" have already made a muddy mess jumping on and off the porch to chase boogers, real or imaginary. We have about a hundred birds on the back porch trying to get the dog and cat food. Bob is about to put out wild bird food since they've cleaned out their bowls.

Puppies are doing fine. They make me laugh and this is the point in their development when they learn the word "No". I call their name and say no when they play too hard or attempt to escape the kiddy pool. Our most adventuresome is Coco Cookie and our swashbuckler is Star. He's the biggest, hogs the food and plays a little too rough with the tiny girls at times but he loves them dearly and they know he's their Big Bubba who they can run to when there is a sudden sound, as in my tripping on something.

We've been up and going since 6 AM, you would not believe the work raising 5 puppies involves. All day and during the night we're changing their bed or laying clean t-shirts over soiled areas until the original layer is covered, then it's change out time.

Be careful today if you're driving in the "white stuff". - Judy

Odd Bits of Information

Insect and Rodents - Interesting possibilities you might want to try, I have not tried them.

Mice & Rats - supposedly rats/mice not liking peppermint. Try a vial of peppermint essential oil diluted with one gal warm H2O and spray this mixture around the baseboards of the area where they've been spotted or if it's an outbuilding spray the total floor area. An alternative is a combination of water, vinegar, and Dr. Bronner's peppermint castile soap

Insect Repellent - Use Dr Bronner's eucalyptus soap for showers and baths.

Time to start sprouting some seeds indoors

Peppers & Tomatoes
Remember to start pepper seeds 8 weeks prior to your last frost date. You'll need lots of pepper plants because there are so many good relishes, jams and sauces that can be made from them. Many of the recipes need tomatoes so start some of those seeds also and start now collecting recipes. You'll find lots of seed sprouting help on the Internet. Both these seeds need bottom heat such as a radiator, heating pad, top of refrigerator, etc. There are seed sprouting heat mats which can be purchased online.

Bob loves hot food and swears it's the reason for his GOOD health, he's soon to be 70.

Thursday - 02/01/2007 8:31 PM

We're slipping and sliding this morning. There is a layer of ice everywhere, but it's not too thick and will quickly melt if the sun will only come out, but the forecast for today is :
"Chance of rain or snow in the morning...then occasional rain or snow in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 1 inch. Cloudy. Highs in the mid 30s. Northeast winds around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent."

If this comes to pass we'll have a bad situation here. Good thing we don't need to go to town.

I hope your weather isn't too bad and you have a great day. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
