Monday - 12/15/03 - 6:50 AM CST Dang that Sugar sure
likes ice!! We have several of the pools shown in this picture
in which we keep fresh water for "our gang". Last night it got cold enough to freeze the
top 1/2 inch of water. At 4:30 AM it was 28 degrees when I put Sugar out to potty. She jumped
in the pool with all four feet and commenced to jump around breaking the ice. Then she picked
it up in her mouth and tossed it in the air watching it break into pieces when it landed.
What a good time girl she is!!!
My wish for today is that we all have as much energy and fun as Sugar!!! - JudyThe capture of Saddam was wonderful news, we pray that it will bring about a positive turn of events in that part of the world!!! Amber's "babies" have started to make an effort to walk. They look so cute trying to stand on their back legs with their front part still on the blanket. By early evening they should be able to stand shakily for a few seconds on all four legs, stagger then collapse back down into the comforter we are using for their bed. Give them two days and they should be able to get around well. It has rained for days causing "our gang" to track leaves and mud onto the porch and in the house. I have some heavy cleaning to do today, although it hasn't stopped raining. Juliet, daughter of Kate & Elvis and granddaughter of Charlotte & Wolfy, is pregnant and will probably go into labor New Year's Eve!! She doesn't look as if she will have 3-4 "babies". This will be her first litter therefore a small litter would be best. Rejoice for the good things in your life. If there aren't any, go out and find some!!! - Judy I made an early trip to PetSmart for Dog Food because the sale is over on the 15th and I was afraid they would be sold out if I waited until Monday. The rude drivers were a shock since we live out in the country, but unangered I just shook my head. Aggressively cutting off other drivers and switching lanes as if they were going to save hours and big bucks, these people are working toward a heart attack .... but I don't suppose they would slow down long enough to let anyone explain it to them. If you have been following my Journal for very long you know I had to make many unnecessary stops on my journey to Tupelo, MS (3 hr round trip). A swing by Wal-Mart caused me to buy Violas that were originally $3 marked down to $.25, plus two 10 inch hanging baskets which were also $.25 each. I could not resist!!! I had fun talking to the people at a bazaar, playing with all the dogs at PetSmart waiting in line to get their pictures taken with Santa and listening to the local chatter at the Bent & Dent Grocery. There I got 20 pounds of rice for $2, and four packages of dried english peas to use when I cook food for the nursing and bred female Bullies (lots of chicken, rice or barley, carrots, english peas, pork liver powder, powdered egg shells/calicum - We fed this mixture once a day, dry puppy formulated food left out all the time, canned Pedigree Puppy Food given once a day, plus they are given pre-natal vitamins, my special "mama milk shake" or yogurt in the morning). I've been up and running since 6 AM so I'm tired now. Going to go catch a nap. - Judy I've uploaded some pictures of Amber & King Bizkit's "babies" but they weren't too good, we're too tired.
![]() Baby Ruth Is Reserved ![]() For More Pictures - Click Here! When it's 25 degrees we all hate going out for "potty break" walks, but we forced ourselves out the door about 5 AM. We've been up taking care of puppies and doing chores since 4 AM and were up several times during the night, so we'll be taking a nap a little later this morning. I'm going to post pictures of Amber's puppies this afternoon and offer them to the people on the Waiting List. My favorite is the fawn colored one that our neighbors are getting. They will be ready for their new homes about 1/10 which is perfect timing because they will miss the craziness of the Holiday Season when people would be in and out of their new homes Chicken thighs with garlic, basil, and rosemary cooked all night in the slow cooker, so the house smells really g o o d. When I took the lid off and began to prepare the meat to use with the soaked Puppy Chow "our gang" was to have for breakfast, I immediately had Jeb, Sweetie Pie and Cowboy crowding around my feet. Cowboy almost caused me to loose my balance so I said "NO" in my mean voice and they all immediately sat down and started licking their lips just to make sure I knew what they were wanting. They each got a bite, I'm such a sucker and I know they were thinking, "Humans are so hard to train". Try to take it easy today. Preparing to celebrate Christmas should be an enjoyable experience, if yours isn't then perhaps you should think about doing things differently. It would be sad for your family to have unpleasant memories of this years festivities because you tried "too hard" to make everything just right!! - Judy Whew!!!! The new medicine is working great and I'll be back to doing the Bully Butt Wiggle in no time at all! What a wonderful early Christmas present. Speaking of Christmas, we celebrate by doing something special for someone. We take the money that we would have spent on each other and use it to bring a little comfort to someone in need. Recently we were told about a woman who has lead a hard, wild life and in the process used up everything and everyone around her. Now in ill health she has been reduced to living with a brother and his family of four in a pitiful $50 a month rented trailer. $50 is not a typo can you imagine it's condition!! We'll have to investigate further, but if what we have been told is true, we're going to prepayment on their rent, directly to the landlord. May your day be special!! - Judy We've been up for hours with the puppies so it's back to bed for a nap!!! Seven of Sleepy's puppies are surviving so far. The puppy that was hardest to revive when they were born, only lived 8 hours. Amber's "babies" are so fat that it's hard for them to right themselves once they get on their back, which is their favorite sleeping position. They were two weeks old yesterday, so I gave them their first worm medicine. They are given wormer every two weeks until they are ready to leave then the new owner's vets should also worm them each time they get a puppy shot, for a total of four puppy shots at three week intervals. Enough rambling, it's one hour before we have to start all over with the feedings, so I'm going to try for a 45 minute nap. - Judy What a day!!! Bob wanted to accompany me to my appointment with a new doctor in Jackson, TN, a 3 hr round trip away plus an unknown amount of time there, and after reading the events of Sleepy's last litter I was afraid she would go into labor while we were gone. We decided to take her with us and afterward run her by the vet's to see if she was ready. Just before we were to leave, all the house Bullies got their turn outside. Wouldn't you know, Amber went missing. After looking everywhere, we discovered she was under the back porch and would not come out. It took us 45 minutes trying everything we knew to do and finally Bob had to dig out a space for her come out. We were late for the Dr appointment but right on time for the c-section. Sleepy & PepperJack had 8 babies, 3 males and 5 females. They are all brindle and white. We're saying a prayer for the next week is critical, especially the next 3 days. - Judy Sunday - 12/07/03 - 4:30 PM CST Pictures of two of Smart Cookie's babies born 8/24/03 Belcher & Mack
![]() - Noon CST To our friends living in the Northeast part of the US where it is snowing so badly, please let us know you are OK!!!! We are thinking about you!! The van is packed and we're ready to go whenever Sleepy Lady exhibits signs of going into labor. She was bred 4 times and today is the 62 day from the last breeding. We are becoming concerned with the possibility that something is wrong, since the average canine gestation is 63 days. She ate well this morning so she shouldn't go into labor today. We're planning on calling the vet's first thing in the morning and I'm sure we'll go in for the c-section, until then we're holding our breath!!! We wish you the best for today!! - Judy It's 39 degrees and there is a chance of snow. Yesterday, for about 10 minutes we had both sleet and snow. Sleepy Lady ate her breakfast so it is very unlikely that she's going into labor today but we have to keep a close watch on her to be sure. Miss B's three female babies are doing great. Our neighbor is getting one of them which leaves two to be placed, but I want them to develop a bit more before I offer them to the people on the Waiting List. Speaking of which, I have removed the link to the Application Form because I'm getting way too many applications for the small number of pups we have. I just don't want people to get their hopes up and then be disappointed. Bob wrote a new Peanut story. It was so funny I told Peanut he was the P-nuttiest yesterday and I promised he pouted!!! We're gonna make the best of this day!!! - Judy In September of 2002, my heart was broken by the actions of a family member which has put our complete financial future in jeopardy. It has smothered me like a wet blanket and after a year of trying to negotiate a settlement, I was compelled to file a lawsuit. I haven't been online because I had to take time out to mourn. The moral to this story is get it in writing, don't be as trusting as Bob and I were. - Judy The Latest Adventures of Peanut Jeb, The Champ Bob taught him to walk again!!! When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love dogs… smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs. |
