Puppy Gal Welcomes You ToJudy's August 2008 Journal....I started this feature for friends and family to answer their "What's going on?" emails, therefore, I probably tell too much, but you are welcome to laugh, cry and sigh with us.If you have been gifted with the ability to love, you are a fortunate person indeed, not all people are capable of loving, some not even themselves. - Judy Hardeman Co. English Bulldog Puppy Pictures Latest Videos.... We up and about to get busy walking "our gang". We're tired but our attitudes are very positive. I have several emails which need my assistance so hopefully I will get to those this afternoon. Most of the time it's so hard to offer possible solutions because I'm not there in person. I'm convinced there are some people who pretend to be bully owners but are actually writers who are wanting my input for articles they are writing, wanting information for their own website or wanting to see if I'm giving medical advice without a licenses. Therefore responding to emails from unknown people can be stressful because I want to assist if I can, but don't want to fall into any traps or spent time writing articles for other people to use to make money. We're keeping up with the latest updates on Gustav, mulling over the worthiness of the candidates for President and trying to remind ourselves not to get too wrapped up in events we can't control. I hope you are enjoying your weekend and feel blessed that you live in the USA!! - Judy Saturday - August 30, 2008 3:45 PM Just like a bossy woman, I tried to tell Bob not to go out into the woods to try to find the big black dog, who might have puppies. We live on a dead-end road and people throw out animals here unfortunately. He thought the donkey was braying at her so off into the woods he went without think of the consequences. Well .... we didn't get any sleep last night because he got covered in tick bites and had some live ones still attached. At Midnight I was giving him a "tick check" and applying ointment. At 3 AM, I was still awake and he had started itching again so there was a repeat of the same process. I believe we dropped off to sleep around 4:30 AM and were back up at 6:00 AM to get ready to meet Amanda for her to get MayMay. MayMay weighs 5.5 lbs, she's a tiny thing and I believe she's going to be a Mini. She is just precious looking and acting. Amanda, her husband and mother were all very pleased. Going Home Pictures....
We going to try to catch a short nap before we have to start walking the critters. Speaking of critters, I got a produce box for Dumpy because Boomer had taken over the other one. You would have thought I brought that silly dog a t-bone steak. He hopped around and squealed with delight. - Judy Thursday - August 28, 2008 7:30 PM I just tonight realized that I had not updated in a few days. First of all here are pictures of the puppies, I do so hope they make you smile.
MayMay
Sammie
Rosie
We took the puppies to the vet today for their well puppy physical and they passed with flying colors. Of course all the people working at the clinic had to see and touch them. Amanda my email system is frustrating the devil out of me, so I thought I would write here that MayMay is ready to go to your loving arms. Her AKC papers won't be here until the first part of the week but if you want to get her this weekend I'll send them to you in the mail. Any day of the week is fine, it doesn't have to be on a Saturday. As soon as MayMay and Rosie go to their new homes, I'm going to take some downtime!!! We have friends and family in the Gulf Coast Area so Gustav has gotten a lot of attention from us. Also the tail-end of Katrina blew through here like a freight train tossing and ripping as she went. A couple of times I thought she was going to bring down the big oak trees that surround the house. Whew!! We were lucky. Take care, enjoy your weekend and treat yourself as well as you treat other people. - Judy Monday - August 25, 2008 9:30 AM Whew!!! I did something really stupid … I was working hard and my back began to ache something terrible. I can't take painkillers of any type, not even aspirin, so I decided to have a very light on the alcohol Lynchburg Lemonade, we didn't have any wine. Pop straight to an allergic reaction, but it did help the back a little before it laid me out flat with water retention legs and fever. I didn't even think about the warning against alcohol if you are allergic to foods high in purine, which results in high uric acid levels, because I don't drink "hard liquor". (The exception being if I've got bronchitis and my bronchial tubes need to be dilated, then I take 2 tablespoons of Evan Williams) I suppose if I wanted to commit suicide butterfly shrimp, a big steak and a couple of alcoholic drinks should accomplish the task. Lol lol I'm back in 3rd gear now with all my work waiting to be completed. Have a good day and plan for tomorrow. - Judy
Friday - August 22, 2008 12:45 PM A few pictures of Juliet & Jazzman's Puppies ...
What happened to all that sisterly loving and snugging? All of a sudden I looked over and saw they were as far apart as they could get. lol lol
Friday - August 22, 2008 8:00 AM Here is a link to the latest video of Juliet's puppies. It uploaded kinda kinky and there is no sound so check back early afternoon, as Bob doesn't not have time to work out the kinks this morning. I've taken one more video and a few pictures which I'll upload a little later. Right now the critters are wanting out to potty, I've got a turkey baking in the oven for them and ..... someone threw out a BIG black dog on our property which I think has puppies. From the way it was walking it reminded me of a mama dog trying to walk while pups were hanging on nursing. The strays have been barking all night, the donkey next door has been braying like a jackass and Melanie takes off down that way every chance she gets, so I'm fairly sure the throw-away is still there. However Fluffy will not allow newcomers and since she is the Queen Bee, Boomer and Dumpy have to do as she tells them. I'm going to take a pan of puppy chow down to the area where the dog went into the woods when it saw our van approach. I'm tooooo gimpy to be crawling through underbrush after what might be a giant Chow ... one of two dog breeds I do not like, the other is a Pit Bull. Man has destroyed the integrity of both breeds - Judy 9:00 AM PS No you didn't ... yes I did. I gave the puppies an ever so tiny bite of turkey and then one of the turkey liver. They decided they were "big dogs" now and only wanted turkey from now on. I laughed at them. Reba was barking out, it's mine, all mine, while Jeb was saying you'll have to push me out of the way first and I weigh more than you do. Li'l Cookie was giving me her best "Mama Please" look. Jazzman let out one bark to let them all know he was the stud. Cherry Cookie told him she didn't need him. All the while, Petunia and Melanie both sat patiently waiting for their turns. Petunia is not pregnant, therefore no more puppies until after the first of the year. Wednesday - August 20, 2008 7:45 AM You'll have to listen to me brag .... a couple of months ago I weighed 150, I now weigh 135. This weight was my objective and I'm going to try real hard NOT to gain back what I've lost. (lol lol) That's why I wouldn't even taste the caramelized apples. Have a good day and try to extend a helping hand or kind word to those who are fighting their way through a crisis. - Judy Wednesday - August 20, 2008 5:00 AM Don't do as I did ... stuffed myself full of watermelon at the 3 AM Puppy Feeding and now I can't go back to sleep. lol lol At least I'm feeling good and being productive. I'm washing dog beds, cooking breakfast, washing dishes and doin' a little dancing to the Old Rock-N'-Roll songs being played on the radio and trying hard not to wake up all the critters. Tuesday - August 19, 2008 2:15 PM
Tuesday - August 19, 2008 8:15 AM I feel like I have won a lottery!!! No I haven't had an influx of money, but I'm learned something very important about my health and it's all because I went on the raw fruit and vegetable diet for a week, felt gutted and over indulged in some of my favorite foods; shrimp and deep fried chicken livers, both high in purine/uric acid. I sat down at my desk glanced down at my legs and thought, "these are not my legs", these legs look good and mine are skinny. The end result was fever, achy joints and fluid collection in my chest, sinus cavities and legs. I've been researching other high purine foods and most all of them are foods I eat frequently .... oops now I'm perplexed as to what I can eat. I'll provide more details if indeed this turns out to be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that I've been praying for, for several years. I could never understand my debilitating episodes until I ate the chicken livers and shrimp within hours of each other, these foods landing in my "empty stomach" and proceeded to replicated the problem. I'm like the old hen who dusted off her tail feathers and retook control of the chicken house after the little ones got out-of-hand. All Jeb wants to know is "where's the meat". Li'l Cookie wants to play and lick my legs, the puppies want their bellies rubbed, Reba the heifer wants, wants, wants. - Judy PS 9:15 AM - I've been up since 3 AM so by the time I woke Bob up at 6 AM I had cooked him a breakfast fit for a king .... Cuban coffee, Southern fried pork chops, grits, biscuits and a giant pan of the best gravy I've ever made. I think me not being able to eat most of what I cooked made Bob appreciate my effort on his part even more than normal. Monday - August 18, 2008 6:45 AM I've been awake since Midnight, Bob woke me up getting back into bed after feeding the pups and I could not go back to sleep. When I was good and awake, I went down and fed the puppies not knowing that he had. Then at 3AM I fed them again, only to realize afterward that he had already given them their 3 AM meal. It was a crazy night and I wished to goodness I had been sleeping. High temp today is suppose to be 90F with clear skies, not bad for the middle of August here in the southern part of the USA. I'll be back in a few minutes with more pictures of the puppies. - Judy
Sunday - August 17, 2008 9:30 AM I wanted and needed grease ... no oil, butter or anything of that nature for a week left me deficit, so we had French fries for breakfast. lol lol I asked Bob if he wanted biscuits for breakfast and he immediately responded YES!!! Next thing he knew I'm deep frying shoestring cut potatoes in canola oil. When done we gobbled them down with plenty of ketchup. Oh mercy I ate too much. Sunday - August 17, 2008 2:00 AM I've just come off an 11 hour sleep ... I feel so much better. Problem is now I need to switch back to sleeping at night, not during the day. Soon the puppies will be sleeping the night away, at least that is the plan. We want them to go to their new parents with the least amount of adjustments to be made by all. In a week or so we'll separate them so they will get use to being by themselves. That way there will not be the trauma of being alone which causes most puppies to cry and their parents to get really upset with them. If it were me and I got a puppy who was afraid to be alone, I would just tuck it in the bed with me, but that is not an option for most people .. they have to get up early in the morning to go to work. I have to get up early, but I can always take a nap if I get too tired. In regard to tucking a puppy in the bed, it's the best way to housebreak a puppy. When you feel them move, it's time to start moving, outside to let them do their business. It's the old "jump and run", just be sure not to sleep in the buff.(lol lol) One of my neighbors in Memphis said "Hello" in the middle of the night and scared the dickens out of me. Enjoy your weekend!! - Judy Saturday - August 16, 2008 9:30 AM Juliet's puppies playing in thier pool!
Saturday - August 16, 2008 8:30 AM I tried to go back to sleep but was unable to do so, therefore I'm exhausted from being up and working all night. The Granny Smith Apples looked in danger of going bad so I peeled and sliced them, put them in a skillet with butter, sugar and cinnamon, put a lid on the skillet, turned the gas eye down on low and simmered them. About the time they are ready to take off the heat, the butter, sugar and cinnamon have caramelized and they are fit for a king. Serving them warm with a scooping of vanilla ice cream on top will melt any cold heart. Bob's heart isn't cold but it sure warmed him up when he was served a bowl of the above and a cup of coffee ... in bed. It was time for him to wake up, it had stopped raining and the critters were beginning to get restless, but one should never rush this delicious dish. Bob took a video and pictures of the puppies which I will post when I get back up from my nap. They are so cute and getting to be little rascals. - Judy Friday - August 15, 2008 Midnight ENOUGH of a good thing!!! Dear Dorothy, you can call me a wimp! I've had zero energy so tonight I told Bob I was going downstairs and cook us a meal which would stick to our ribs, vermicelli with shrimp in a garlic butter sauce. I didn't eat much but Bob declared it was wonderful and ate a large bowl full. The key to this dish being outstanding is lots of fresh garlic, although it does take time to peel and chop. For the large amount of vermicelli and shrimp I cooked I used a whole clove. Li'l Cookie loves garlic so she'll be wanting to smell my breath tomorrow, but most likely humans will shy away. Bob just fed the puppies, so it's off to bed we go. - Judy Thursday - August 14, 2008 10:15 AM Apology to Big Bob, he put the half loaf of sandwich bread in the freezer ... he didn't eat it as toast. Shame on me for thinking he did. Here is the recipe for the Date Oatmeal Cookies that I made such a mess out of while trying to take care of the puppies, I've had a request for it so I thought I would post it here. DATE OATMEAL COOKIES This recipe will make 7 or 8 dozen 1 C Butter or Margarine 1 C Brown Sugar, firmly packed 1 C Granulated Sugar 1 tsp Vanilla 2 Eggs 1 1/2 C Sifted All-Purpose Flour 1 tsp. Salt 1 tsp. Baking Soda 1/2 tsp. Cinnamon 1/2 tsp. Nutmeg 1/2 tsp. Ground Cloves 3 C Rolled Oats 1 C Chopped Medjool Dates Cream butter or margarine and sugars until fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir flour, salt, soda and spices together. Add to the mixture and mix well. Stir in oatmeal, and Medjool Dates. Drop by teaspoonful about 2 inches apart on well-greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees 10-15 min. Let cool a few minutes before removing from the baking sheet. Thursday - August 14, 2008 1:15 AM Silly Girl, that's Rosie. She was running and jumping around, then surprised MayMay by popping over to her for a bite, just playing. Well MayMay was still half asleep and in no mood for being picked on by her sibling. She charged at Rosie, went chest to chest with her as she growled. Rosie thought it was great fun to get such a rise out of MayMay so she tried it again, in stepped Mama Judy. I told her it was 1 AM I only woke up to feed them and didn't want any confusion, besides MayMay was getting ticked at our Silly Girl. Wednesday - August 13, 2008 10:15 AM I've been up and going most of the night. Now my back is hurting and I'm grouchy, but the puppies still made me smile. Rosie climbed up on a stuffed rabbit then proceeded to sit on sleeping Sammie's head, of course that totem pole was too tall so it fell over sideways. MayMay was just looking at her as if thinking, you're not going to make it. lol lol They are eating like little pigs and making all sorts of slurping sounds. I'm so tired I told Bob I had to have an energy boost, therefore one of us needs to run into Corinth in the morning for KFC fried chicken livers. I'm not so set in concrete on this diet that I can't vary it as my energy level demands. I like eating raw and I think it will be good for me. Speaking of the diet, I noticed the half loaf of sandwich bread which was on the counter when we started the diet was gone ... Bob's been eating toast!!! I boiled eggs this morning for the dogs so they wouldn't go bad while we're on this diet. I did ask him if he wanted some. You know he said yes. So much for Bob and this diet!! lol lol I've got two hours until the puppies need to be fed again, so off to bed I go. - Judy Tuesday - August 12, 2008 3:30 AM Puppies are doing good, they just needed me!! Midnight Puppy Feeding while eating a peach 3:00 AM Puppy Feeding while eating a banana, radishes and a small cucumber. AND I have to ask myself why I have a tummy ache!! lol lol I'm starting to lust after peanut butter and crackers. - Judy Monday - August 11, 2008 6:30 PM I can attest to the statement that this diet is hard to stick with for 30 days, we're only into day 3 and I'm wondering how long I can hold out. I don't mind having a plum, cucumber slices, avocado and kiwi for breakfast but just like with orential food I'm hungry, burning stomach, in less than 2 hours. Twice last night I went down to the kitchen for a snack, first time watermelon because I was also a little dehydrated and second time broccoli. I asked Bob his situation to which he replied, no negative thoughts or burning stomach pains. Later I found out why, he had finished off the second Mincemeat-Apricot Pie I made him. lol lol Juliet finished weaning the puppies last week, now they aren't eating well, which I just can't understand, but I'm going to boil them some eggs to mash up in their food to see if that helps. Tomorrow I might go to the "little big city" to get yogurt and a jar of Gerber Chicken Baby Food to see if either increases their appitite. Right now I'm on my way to bed before I pass out. - Judy Sunday - August 10, 2008 1:30 PM Good Afternoon!!! We spent yesterday morning shopping for organic fruit, vegetables, nuts and grains. A friend of mine, who is an engineer but loves his big garden, sells organic produce at the Farmers Market so that was the first stop. We loaded up from him then got several items from other vendors which were not organically grown but at least locally grown (watermelons, cantaloupes, cucumbers, peppers). Our next stop was Walmart to fill in with fruit: plums, grapes, kiwi, star fruit, apples, avocado, bananas etc. When we got home and unpacked it all, I told Bob we had lots of eatin' to do in a hurry before it all spoiled. I swear we bought enough for a family of four. lol lol Actually if that is all we're going to be eating then it probably is not going to be excessive. The first part of the night I took care of the puppies and the second part was Bob's shift. We were both so very tired. I declared today as a "do nothing but what we have to do" so we could rest up. (Note: I've been warned that the first week on this diet tends to make a person tired .... Lordy we'll be crawling on the ground with the critters. lol lol If you aren't enjoying your life, change it!!! - Judy PS Jeb was walking around the kitchen watching me unpack, wanting to know "where's the meat" when I told him, not for 30 days, he said he didn't know if he could go 30 days without me feeding them treats of leftover meat. Saturday - August 9, 2008 1:00 AM All is well here, puppies are great and we are beginning to get more rest. I should be able to finish the article on "Eyes" this weekend. It's actually written all I need to do is edit it. Amanda, I got your telephone message ... MayMay it is!! - Judy I went into my email inbox tonight and what a mess of emails I have waiting for me to answer, but you know what only the ones from people who have my "babies" or from my friends are going to be answered. I've been sent pictures to share and that type of thing which is really nice. Most of the others are people wanting me to refer them to a breeder who has pups, I don't do that, or asking why their male Bully which they did not get from me has a small chest, they probably listened to their vet and had it neutered too young, or challenging me on having "AKC" Mini's, a true AKC Mini is very rare, but Elvis was one so we occasionally have Mini's from his bloodline. Only problem is I can't swear that they will actually be a mini when they are grown. I normally just tell the person that they will probably be and then ask if it will make any difference to them. What this person is probably thinking about is the mixed breed dogs (pug/english, english/pug/frenchie) that people are selling as Mini English Bulldogs a few years ago. They even started their own registration club. I'm off to bed, I'm going to put off the 3 AM feeding until 4 AM, then stay up for the day. I hope you have a peaceful weekend.- Judy Friday - August 8, 2008 9:45 AM My sleep pattern is all messed up ... I haven't been to sleep for 24 hours because I'm wired. lol It could be all this water I'm drinking trying to flush out my body. I didn't know it until I read it on a medical website that a person can actually OD on water, trust me I'm not drinking that much. I'm just sipping all day long. I bought many different juices, made lemonade and sweet tea, but they are of no interest to me. I believe because they're sweet. Have you ever heard of a 30 day Eat Raw diet, not even microwaved?? I've been told it sounds easy but it isn't. It's suppose to be very hard to stick with it. It might not be for me because I prefer veggies and fruit to meat and bread, so we're going to give it a try. It's suppose to take care of the extra weight we both have around our middle. I hope Bob doesn't read this!!! The "babies" are precious and make me smile!!! - Judy PS Amanda, got your deposit. Thursday - August 7, 2008 9:30 AM Our plates are overflowing with taking care of the puppies and other critters in the extreme heat we've been experiencing, plus family matters and such. I've gotten so many strange emails that I just do not want to go there and do that. Amanda, I've got you covered on MayMay. Bob hasn't decided on which of the other two puppies he wants to keep, so when he does we'll leave the option for you to choose between MayMay and the other pup. (Edited 08/08/08) Delta Dawn is not pregnant, just fat. lol lol Petunia we don't know about yet. If she is the pups will be born the later part of September and be ready for their new homes the end of November. Please don't send me inquiries on these puppies ... it is way too early. I took a 7 hour nap today, plus I got some potentially wonderful health news so I'm feeling much better. I hope you will have a great weekend.- Judy Thursday - August 7, 2008 7:30 AM Lordy, I haven't been to sleep YET!!! But I did take some pictures of the puppies for you. At this point they do very little but eat, sleep and poop. In the first picture, please note that Rosie is nibbling on Sammie, but Sammie doesn't care. lol lol
Thursday - August 7, 2008 3:10 AM Early Morning Greetings!!! I've been up with the puppies, they are doing great. Any time now I'm probably going to pass out from exhaustion and not wake up for 24 hours. Bob said he bet it was going to be fairly quick and even alluded to the fact that I might be getting grouchy. We have a running joke, he says something like that and I reply "I'm not grouchy and I mean it". lol lol A couple of the things I'm excited about are.... The Air Powered Car From India. Supposedly they are going to build a plant in the USA, sell the cars direct to the public and they are going to cost something like $1200 and are projected to be marketed in the USA 2009 or 2010, but you know projected time-lines are often missed. They project they will have 6000 or so on the road in India this year. For more information Google Search "Air Car India". UC Berkeley students have invented an Affordable Solar Water Heater, around $100. Ten of the units are being on roof tops in Guatemala. They would like to stimulate the local economy of developing countries by teaching the locals how to build and install them. After I gave it some thought I kinda got ticked because they didn't give the benefit from the testing ect to impoverished areas in the USA but quickly realized they probably would have had to go through so much red tape (Fed approvals, Fed permits, County approvals, County permits, State permits and State approvals)that it would be years before they could even test. Isn't that pitiful!!! To read more about this solar design Google Search "solar water heaters berkeley". I liked the CNN article best. (Follow Up: I copied and enlarged the photo on the CNN site, there is no insulation on the pipes therefore maybe the low cost means it can only be used in "warm areas", but what a boom it will be for Africa where many people have to heat water over an open fire pit and have to walk miles to collect the wood.) Am I wired or what!!! I'm going to try to read myself to sleep. - Judy Wednesday - August 6, 2008 12:30 PM Get ready to smile!!!!
Wednesday - August 6, 2008 12:30 AM The Midnight Feeding is complete and the puppies are doing great. I left them in the pool with a little bear to play with or sleep on. MayMay & Sammie went to sleep immediately but Rosie wanted to check out her new friend, I Love You Bear. Rosie is so animated, she makes me laugh out loud. I took a couple of pictures that I'll post in a few hours. I have the batteries charging for the digital camera which takes good videos, so hopefully I'll take a video or two later today. Right now I'm going to try to go to sleep. - Judy Tuesday - August 5, 2008 6:45 AM I woke Bob up and went downstairs with him to do the morning chores. I'm so sore from the fall but I'm going to get rid of it by working it out. I have to learn how to prevent the falling. I told Bob I needed advice from a professional. I just don't know what "profession" that would be. lol lol I had left the puppies in the kiddy pool at 4:30 and they were happy, happy, happy. I scooped them up and put them in the "storage box", then it went inside a crate, until potty time was over for the big dogs ... we certainly didn't want any accidents. Jeb says he just wants to look and Li'l Cookie says all she wants to do is stick her foot inside the pool so they can love on it. I had to explain to them that Juliet would be worse than an terrorist if she saw them looking at her babies. Love is such a pleasant experience. - Judy Tuesday - August 5, 2008 4:30 AM Stupid computer froze .... but now I'm back in action. The 3 AM feeding went well. They sucked down the food and wanted some snuggle time. So you know they got it. lol lol I tucked them up under my chin and rubbed their ears, neck and back. Li'l Cookie, also known as Chunky Cookie, kept telling me she could snuggle with them real good. She is such a sweetheart. Juliet didn't care if they snuggled with me, but I'm here to tell you she would have torn down the walls of the house if Li'l Cookie had been that close to one of her "babies". Which brings to mind Sassy T who stole puppies from 2 other mother's. One mother didn't act like she was feeling well so she wasn't paying attention to her puppies. One at a time Sassy went over to her pool and brought back a crying pup. Soon the complete litter was transferred. Sassy had 3 the mother who wasn't feeling well had 3 so that made 6. Then Sassy's sister let 2 of her pups cry longer than Sassy thought was right, so she stole those. 8 puppies and Sassy was satisfied ... basking in all the glory of an English Bulldog with a big litter of puppies and felt confident in demanding I hand feed her, etc. Oh how I loved my Sassy. When she left this world she took a piece of my heart. Tuesday - August 5, 2008 1:00 AM Puppy Feeding finished. They are so very cute. It's time for a video!!! I'll try my best to take one tomorrow. Yesterday afternoon awakened by puppy cries I attempted to do a jump and run, only my jump was onto a pillow I had thrown off the bed during my nap. This would not have been a problem for a normal person but my gimpy leg (5 major traumas) did not allow me to regain my balance. I lost my footing and hit the floor. I was going face first but managed to roll to my side. Now the bad part ... I could NOT get up off the floor! I squirmed over to the bed post to pull up but there was no way... Next, I tried the desk leg but sill I couldn't pull myself up. Meanwhile, I'm yelling for Bob and the critters are going crazy. I'll admit I was in panic mode, not from the fall but from the fact that I was unable to get up off the floor. If there had been a rope hanging from the ceiling, I would have been able to pull myself up straight but a sideways pull up was out of the question. Afterwards I realized I could have squirmed over to and down the stairs and when I got to the bottom I could have stood up. Hindsight is wonderful because if it ever happens again that is exactly what I'm going to do. The Good Lord gave me Bob for more than one reason. - Judy P.S. - To show my appreciation to Bob, I'm in the process of cooking him two Mincemeat/Apricot pies. Monday - August 4, 2008 6:30 AM Napping whenever I can has got me "off center" ... I'm a "sleep through the night" kinda of girl!! I accidently read the latest headlines on the Canada Bus Killing and it got me major weirded out. Every time I closed my eyes my mind went to that bus!! I don't know if I'll be able to nap at all today. How gross and there are many more gross stories to match. What in the world is happening to people or is it that the news websites are just centering on these kinds of gross stories. Here are some pictures taken last night, I hope they make you smile ....
Monday - August 4, 2008 5:30 AM Oh Mercy!!! The whole house slept through the puppies 3 AM feeding. I didn't wake up until 4:30 AM and immediately asked Bob if he had been down, he said no and off he dashed to feed them. They were awake, not crying, just looking around as if they had been forgotten. A plate of mushy food followed by a nursing session with Julie had them fat and happy in no time. - Judy Monday - August 4, 2008 12:30 AM Midnight feeding completed!! lol lol Well whatever the "little ones" told Sammie about laying in the bowl of food worked because she was a very polite little girl at this feeding. We're off to bed. - Judy Sunday - August 3, 2008 11:30 PM I've settled on some "working" names for the puppies: Samantha (Sammie) Proud Mary (MayMay) Wild Rose(Rosie). I've also began to wonder if MayMay & Rosie aren't going to be Minnies. Elvis, their grandfather, was a Mini.
I'll tell you a little story then post pictures with names included. Sammie is the biggest
puppy and when she sleeps, she's in deep sleep. I went down to feed them a couple hours
ago and found MayMay, the one with two dots on her head, biting Sammie. Rosie was over in
the corner awake but just looking around. MayMay bit Sammie on her cheek, nose, foot and
looked at her like what will it take to wake you up ... but she didn't want to bite too
hard and make Sammie mad. Rosie walked over as if to say, "can we do that?". MayMay assured
her it was OK. So both MayMay and Rosie were nibbling on Sammie who finally woke up, sat
up, stood up, then plunk down she went asleep again. Both the little ones started nibbling
on her again but she was too sleepy to care ... so you know they were not hurting her. It
was so funny!!! They have just begun to play.
Juliet has started "blowing her coat" so there is dog hair everywhere, as if there wasn't
already. She's no longer barking to have the puppies with her to nurse so I think she is
going to wean them earlier than most of the other mothers do. It could just be that the heat
has got her lazy but those Cookie girls are threatening to take the pups away from her if
she doesn't show more concern, they have taken it upon themselves to alert us to the
puppies crying. .... BUT just let any of the other critters near the puppy pool or the crate
in which I've put the puppy's box and gentle Juliet becomes intollerant. lol lol Jeb said he was only looking!!!
Sunday - August 3, 2008 7:30 PM Puppy Double Decker Dinner ... after I fed them mushy food with formula, I put them up, cleaned up the kiddy pool, put in clean bedding and then put them in with Juliet for a second round of eating. She wasn't interested in them, she wanted me to feed her something "special" or she wasn't going to stay in the pool so ... she got pan fried jalapeno pepper, onion cornbread, she loves it. I had already caught Bob sharing the pones with her so I let her finish them off, two medium size. Sunday - August 3, 2008 5:00 PM I like to have never gotten back to sleep but once I did, I slept like a bulldog and woke up only a few minutes ago, when Bob crawled into bed. lol lol Trading places!!! I'm really excited about the MIT's cheap solar energy storing breakthrough. If you haven't read about it, enter "MIT Solar energy" in Google and I'm sure the latest information will be available. The main problem plaguing solar energy has been the expense of storage now there are only a couple of more hurdles to cross and solar energy collecting will be a done deal. Won't it be wonderful to have your own source of power for your home needs and then be able to plug up your alternative power car for a run into town. lol lol Oops, puppies are calling. I thought I heard a tiny puppy cry, then Cherry Cookie took up their cause, then Blaze because he knows he's the loudest therefore sure to be heard upstairs. Don't we have a crazy life. - Judy Sunday - August 3, 2008 7:30 AM Seconds Please ... puppies woke up wanting seconds, that is they wanted their Mama Juliet so Bob put them on to nurse and they just finished. He said when they woke up crying, he knew they had finished with their mushy food not long ago so they must have wanted warm milk from their mama and they did. Now how cute is that!!! Meanwhile I'm saying please finish up the "have to" chores and come rub my back, I can't go back to sleep, because I'm thinking about all the little children in this world who need and deserve the same attention that we are giving these puppies ... breaks by heart that they aren't getting it. - Judy Sunday - August 3, 2008 5:30 AM Lordy I'm wired!!! Puppy Breakfast is complete, biscuits are in the oven, puppy t-shirts are in the dryer, 13 dried bean combination put in a pot to soak, ham hocks in another pot on slow simmer, coffee perking and all is right with our part of the world!! Right in the middle of all of this Bob comes downstairs and the Bulldogs plus Melanie go into a tether when they hear his footsteps on the stairs. (unbelievable!!!) I tell him to get himself a cup of coffee and go back upstairs, it's only 4:30 AM and I have "puppies down" which means they are in the pool and there could be an accident if he starts letting the other dogs out to potty. Puppy feeding finished, they are cleaned, snugged into their box with a Snuggle Safe plus warm t-shirt and put up so no harm can come to them. Time for Bob to take over and me to go take a nap. - Judy Sunday - August 3, 2008 3:30 AM Early Morning Feeding is complete, no nap time inbetween feedings. When I went out on the back porch to fetch the puppy bowl I had given to Dumpy to finish off, it had a slug in it. Creepy Horrors!! I grabbed up the salt box and sprinkled it over most of the back porch. Ms Kitty was out there and when I went to shaking the box she looked at me like I had gone crazy and hurriedly left. Mr. Cat was at the other end of the back porch. He gave me a look like, "when is all this night time activity going to end, we can't get any sleep". I yelled, "Tell me about it Mr Cat!!!". lol lol Sunday - August 3, 2008 12:30 AM Midnight Feeding was just completed, then I gave Dumpy, stray that came to stay, the leftovers to eat, he was one happy character. After that I put on a load of mainly puppy t-shirts and such to wash and started their Early Morning food to soak in the refrigerator. I checked the weather web site and we are under a Heat Advisory again so we'll start our work day at 5 AM ... is there any wonder why we're so tired. - Judy. Saturday - August 2, 2008 3:15 PM I finally got a good long nap!! Bob and Juliet took care of Puppy Lunch and I just finished giving the Puppy Afternoon Meal service. (lol) Now I'm going back to bed. I was unable to go back to sleep after their 3 AM feeding therefore I was awake most of the night. Maybe if I can take another good long nap, I'll be able to work the Puppy Night Shift and Bob can get some much needed uninterrupted sleep. Saturday - August 2, 2008 9:15 AM I was awaken from my nap by the puppies crying ... I rushed downstairs to find Bob had gotten there first and had already put them on Juliet to nurse .... Puppy Brunch With Mama Juliet. - Judy Saturday - August 2, 2008 6:15 AM Puppy Breakfast is completed. Eating mushy food makes them cold so while they are eating, I'm warming up their Sunggle Safe in the microwave, tuck it in under a double layer of t- shirt to warm the bottom of their bed, then I heat, in the microwave, a t-shirt to put on top of them. I've burned a hole in several t-shirts because of a minor miscalculation in the thickness of the material, then they go from "just warm enough" to "on fire" quickly and boy does the smell stink up the house. When they finish eating I wipe off the "extra food" they are wearing on their head, legs and at times stomach. Then I tuck them into their clear plastic storage container and off to sleep they go. - Judy Saturday - August 2, 2008 3:00 AM I've just finished with the Early Morning Puppy Feeding. Juliet just looked at me as if to say, "I'm tired give them some of that mushy stuff". lol lol Right now it's 77F with 92% humidity and the high for today is predicted to be 99F. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, so we're going to be laying low today for sure. We'll have to get up around 5 AM to take the English Bulldogs out to potty, before it gets too hot. It's suppose to be clear so maybe the humidity will drop and we can at least make use of the high temperature to catch up on line drying the dog beds. The human baby formula sprinkled on their mushy (soaked in water then mashed with a fork) Purina Puppy Chow was exactly the right thing to do. The pups are packing away the food. Although Juliet loves the Goats milk evidently the pups didn't. Oh my, yesterday I caught a deer sneaking around to my lily bed for a mid-morning snack. They don't normally run when they see us but this one shot off like a bullet when I went out on the porch. None of the other deer were with it, so I'm wondering if it might be the orphaned deer of last Fall and it's the one who has been dinning in the flower beds, it loves roses!!! I've been trying to think of something interesting to write for 22 minutes now and really can't so I'm going back to bed. - Judy Click Here Judy's Garden 2005!!
