The last day of August has a wonderful weather forcest, high 82° F, low of 63° F and partly cloudy skies.
It is so nice to be able to work outside without risking a heat stroke.
We've received some delightful "news" about one of our babies:

Judy
Brutus (Chewy Cookie son of Reba & Peanut DOB 10/04/06) took third in a charity
"dancing in the streets festival" dog pageant. We dressed up in Detroit tiger baseball cloths.
Please see the picture of us in the news below.
Dancin' in the Street - Click Here
Brutus is doing very well. He is on vacation
right now at the lake with my mother's dog Lexy, his best friend. He enjoys swimming with his
life jacket on, and sitting in a lounge chair (has to have a towel on the chair) for napping.
He is very active for a bulldog. He insists on going for two daily walks with his babysitter
and us, and enjoys running around up north. He is very spoiled.
Hope all is well - Jim

We received the following email on Sunday:
Hi Judy & Bob,
We just wanted to pass along some updated pictures of Sampson (son of Eve & Jazzman DOB 3/05/06). What do you think of his
head now? Wow has he grown this past month. His previous weight was 33 lbs - we weighed
him yesterday at PetSmart and he is now 45 pounds! I actually thought he lost weight
because he looks thinner - but he's taller I guess.
The last picture shows his marking on his back - we call it our "Gold Fish" as Konnor eats
gold fish all the time and we noticed if you look at it sideways that's what it looks like.
We are loving him so much - Sophie really likes having him to play with. Although we had a
mishap Friday - Sophie got her eye scratched pretty bad from them playing. $150 later and
we are on the road to recover - she's wearing an Ecru collar and can't play with Sampson
for at least a week. Things happen and we are babying her much more than usual to care
for her recovering needs.
We hope your both doing! well. I haven't been on your site for a little bit - we've been
painting Konnor's new big boy room - and Sampson loves helping out with that. One night
his whole side was bright blue from wanting to be so close to me while I painted. Thank
goodness it came of easily.
Well, we will continue to keep you updated. You both take care. Sampson sends sloppy
kisses and give our sloppies to all your bullies.
God Bless,
Jess, Ken & Konnor

Grinnin' At You This Morning!!!
Eve insisted we watch her grin this morning. That was right before she went into her Bully Butt Wiggle
happy dance. She's so funny, demanding but too funny.
She tells
me she wants to be the only child and in response I ask what she would want me to do with her
brothers and sisters, in reply she sighs and says, well just love me best!!
Talking for Eve this morning, reminds me of my when the nieces and nephews were young, one of
their favorite pastimes was asking me to talk for whatever animal we saw. What's that squirrel
saying Aunt Judy.

Just got an Email from Carol Lynn...
Hi Judy!
I apologize that it’s taken me this long to get this picture to you!
I couldn’t manage to get everyone to look at the camera at the same time, so this was the best I could do!
Even since my last email Maggie has been maturing.
She’s always been pretty laid back, but you can tell she’s starting to become a “lady”.
She’s much less likely to jump on people, opting instead to just sit right by your feet and lick your legs!
She’ll even let Will sit right next to her and hug her without getting too excited.
But Will is very likely to get wet kisses all over his face and neck…which sends him into giggle fits!
I’ll try again to get some clearer pictures of Maggie, but she’s more interested in what everyone else
is doing than me trying to get her picture.
I am hoping that your “allergy” problem is getting better,
although I know from your recent postings that it doesn’t appear to be so.
Maybe having some rest from puppies and getting some time to recharge will help that immune system out!!
You and Bob and the bully family are always in our thoughts and prayers.
We can’t thank you enough for letting us be a part of your family!
Always,
Carol Lynn

Bob: When I take each of the bullies out for their afternoon walk, I usually take two at a time using
English training leads. There are a few that don't need a lead and Gabby is one of them.
Gabby is Maggie's Mother. Yesterday, Gabby decided to be a 'puppy' and be playful...
Our walk ended up twice as long -- Gabby wanted to explore the woods,
the tool shed and pause long enough to get the latest gossip from Big Red.
Such a gentle, sweet bulldog.

New snapshots of "Baily" -- with Dan and "Kato"
Hi Judy and Bob,
Bailey is thriving. She is everything wonderful about
puppies and then some.
We have her semi-trained to ring a bell at the door to
go out just like Kato does. Her house training is
coming along great.
She and Kato are the best of friends. She has also met
lots of family and friends and everyone agrees that
she is adorable.
Thank you.

I'm having a difficult time with food. It's too hot to cook, I'm determined not to eat bread
and nothing sounds good. I decided breakfast was going to be different. I fixed a layered plate
of refried beans, tamales, a couple of poached eggs and dressed the top with cheese,
Mexican sauce & sweet onion. I went out to where Bob was working and told him his breakfast
was ready but he might not want it ... he loved it. lol lol
Bob got the zoned sprinklers installed and sure enough it rained last night, only a light
rain but better than none. Next time we need a rain remind me to ask him to take on a long
involved water related project. We hadn't done this before because we kept thinking surely
this drought will break. It's only water hose with 7 stake sprinklers, but now all I have
to do is turn a control, instead of dragging a heavy water hose around in the hot sun. I
actually prefer hand watering, but it was causing me to keep a vicious headache, due to an
old neck injury. Whew, now maybe I can get on with life!!
The blooms we have this morning are Red Double Hisbiscus and Shampoo Ginger, now isn't that
a strange bloom. Wait until you see the picture of mature bloom, stranger still.
That is all that's happening here at Dogwood Pond ... Judy
Monday - 08/21/06 11:30 AM
We're still waiting for a good soaking rain! We're watering the plants and trees but all a
water hose is good for is to keep them alive, until Mother Nature gives them a shower which
makes them thrive.
We're also having a serious problem with insects coming out of the dry fields to feast on my
plants. This is the first year that we've had to use a pesticide other than a hand full of
Siven Dust. It's definitely time to rethink having potted plants which are requiring so much
of my time. Also I don't want to winter over any of them in the house this year, it's too full of
stuff as it is.
Now after saying all that, look what I bought for $1 a pot, I got 5 pots. I thought they were mislabeled and
it turned out I was right. They are Variegated Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) and I found a website
selling the same size pot for $39.95 each, plus shipping. Just what I needed more potted plants.

Subject: Prayer Request
Hi Judy and Bob,
I have a prayer request. My best friend from college, Wendy, has a 16
year old son Michael who has learned that he has a heart problem which
turned up during his football physical. They live in Greenbier TN.
The doctor thinks it may be Patent Ductus Arteriosus
(PDA)http://www.heartpoint.com/congpda.html. They are
headed to Vanderbilt for a consultation at the Vanderbilt Pediatric
Cardiology.
Thanks,Mary
I hurriedly copied and pasted your Prayer Request to my journal. The Good
Lord works in mysterious ways.. to have this problem identified and resolved
before a serious situation occurs, I believe is a miracle in and of itself.
Hugs, Judy

So funny that it is the same time as yesterday. There isn't much news here ...
We're not breeding any of the females although there is a rumble from both males and females wanting
to know why. I tell them I'm too tired, I must get some rest and regain my strength. They counter
with but we love our babies and you do too. They are so right but unfortunately we believe I have
developed an allergic reaction to dog dander. If I hug up one of the grown dogs or care for a litter
of puppies I get sick ... maybe I'm just working too hard because having a litter of puppies and caring
for them properly, according to Judy, is hard work, but most likely I'm allergic.
I love my Big Bob and always will because he understands and helps in any way possible. I can't express
in words what it means for me, a person who has "gone to the dogs" a life time ago to even think about
the possibility of not being able to hug them up, rescue those who are not wanted or to have a litter
of puppies which brings so much joy to my life.
Tears flowing, I haven't been able to face going to the allergist to have my worst fears confirmed.
Hug up your Bully for me today. - Judy

Good Morning!!
This morning I'm still laughing at how my friend Joe described the South to a friend from
Australia:
"However, if you're not kin folk & from the same county, you'll always be a 'ferner'.
(foreigner). And Southerners are always polite and sweet, even if they don't like you!
They'll say things like "Bless his heart, he has no sense", "Isn't she sweet", "That's
special", "Isn't that interesting", and of course "You ain't from 'round hare, are ya?"
Southern Charm, like the ice tea, is syrupy sweet if done rawght."
He is so right, I have a friend who can tell a person 'you're not too bright', but she
weights the words down with so much politeness, it takes three or
four days for the message to rise to the top. lol lol
I'm going to practice being polite today... - Judy

She's very smart and the pictures do not do her justice in regard to showing how pretty she is.
When Bob wouldn't give her attention because he was deadheading the roses, she bit
a hunk out of one of the elephant ears in back of him. Of course you know, she then got my attention
with a stern "NO". She immediately stopped.
Heat advisory in effect from noon today to 7 PM CDT this
evening... high forcasted to be 98°F presently it's 76.2 °F, Clear, Humidity: 90% which makes breathing difficult.
We're actually puppy free and don't know how to act ... if it were a tad cooler we would work outside all
day but since we have a heat advisory, we'll hole up in the house.
I fear I must fire the maid. I knew she had been working less and less but I didn't
realize she was doing almost nothing, that is until I got my new glasses Friday. I must run, a maid's work is never done.

Why am I a breeder of English Bulldogs, they make me smile, they make me laugh, they make me
giggle ... If these pictures don't bring a smile to your face, I'm afraid there is no
professional who can help you
I'm exceptional attached to Itty Bitty Beth. Why? Because she may be our last puppy. I only
approve one or two out of twenty applications from people wanting to be the parents of my puppies.
There are some people who try to impress me with their financial success, there are those who go
overboard trying to convince me they know everything about Bullies and then I receive an application
that feels so 'right' down to the bottom of my soul.
The Puppy Application for the new owner of Itty Bitty Beth was one of those and I'm so
proud to say my heart felt content in handing her over to her new "Mama", a 17 year old
Elizabeth. I would have normally said 'no' to a young person because their life is too
hectic to give one of my babies 24x7 attention they need to become a wonderful companion,
but this 17 year old reminded me of myself at that age, a little unsure of facing
adulthood but more than sure that life is to be cherished. She would fight the devil and
the deep blue sea for Itty Bitty Beth and she has a wonderful mother to gently guide her
along the way.
Her new name is "Bailey" and she has a new friend, "Kato", a bullmastiff.
These are pictures of "Bailey" in her new home with Liz, Daniel (Liz's brother) and Kato...

I'm tuckered out this morning, we went shopping for several hours yesterday afternoon,
stopping at all the major groceries, mexican grocery store for a slightly sweet hot sauce,
butcher shop and then Wal-Mart.
Meanwhile I had a boston butt pork roast coated in my own special blend of BBQ dry
seasonings cooking in the crockpot. It was fully cooked by the time we returned and is
delicious, but I don't really care for meat so some time today I hope to fix a batch of BBQ Spaghetti
using some of the meat, dry spice and BBQ sauce. I ate cottage cheese for supper, but
fixed Bob a BBQ sandwich with a side of cole slaw.
About 9 PM last night I finally propped my feet up and read for awhile. My current reading is the
history of the Arab world with particular interest in their attitudes toward slavery.
Now aren't I weird.
Have a good weekend - Judy
The following was sent to me by a friend and it is so true .....
"SOUTHERNNESS"
Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hisse fit and a conniption fit, and that you don't "HAVE" them, you "PITCH" them.
Only a Southerner knows how many fish, collard greens, turnip greens, peas, beans, etc., make up "a mess."
Only a Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of "yonder."
Only a Southerner knows exactly how long "directly" is, ... As in: "Going to town, be back directly."
Even Southern babies know that "Gimme some sugar" is not a request for the white, granular sweet substance that sits in a pretty little bowl in the middle of the table.
All Southerners know exactly when "by and by" is. They might not use the term, but they know the concept well.
Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a neighbor who's got trouble is a plate of hot fried chicken and a big bowl of cold potato salad. If the neighbor's trouble is a real crisis, they
also know to add a large banana puddin!
Only Southerners grow up knowing the difference between "right near" and "a right far piece." They also know that "just down the road" can be 1 mile or 20.
Only a Southerner, both knows and understands, the difference between a Redneck, a good ol' boy, and Po white trash.
No true Southerner would ever assume that the car with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn.
A Southerner knows that "fixin" can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adverb.
Only Southerners make friends while standing in lines, ... And when we're "in line," ... We talk to everybody!
Put 100 Southerners in a room and half of them will discover they're related, even if only by marriage down the line.
In the South, y'all is singular, .... All y'all is plural.
Southerners know grits come from corn and how to eat them.
Every Southerner knows tomatoes with eggs, bacon, grits, and coffee are perfectly wonderful; that red eye gravy is also a breakfast food; and that fried green tomatoes are not a breakfast food.
When you hear someone say, "Well, I caught myself lookin'," you know you are in the presence of a genuine Southerner!
Only true Southerners say "sweet tea" and "sweet milk." Sweet tea indicates the need for sugar and lots of it -- we do not like our tea unsweetened. "Sweet milk" means you don't want buttermilk.
And a true Southerner knows you don't scream obscenities at little old ladies who drive 30 MPH on the freeway. You just say,"Bless her heart" and go your own way.
To those of you who are still a little embarrassed by your Southerness: take two tent revivals and a dose of sausage gravy and call me in the morning. Bless your heart!
And to those of you who are still having a hard time understanding all this Southern stuff ... Bless your hearts, I hear they are fixin' to have classes on Southernness as a second language!
And for those that are not from the South but have lived here for a long time, all y'all need a sign to hang on y'alls front porch that reads "I ain't from the South, but I got here as fast as I could."

I've been awake since 5 AM but am trying my best to be quiet. It started raining last night and I'll
have to assume it's been rained ever since. I woke up a couple of times to thunder and lightening after
midnight.
I finally woke Bob up at 6:30 AM because I could hear "our gang" downstairs start to stir. I asked if
he wanted to do it, walk the dogs, in the rain or try to be quiet until there was a lull. He opted
for the later, so I went down to bring back up coffee and dried fruit cake for breakfast. Bob loves
these cakes, therefore I made 5 and put them in the freezer. They are packed with dried fruit and nuts, but are not 'real sweet' nor do they have
the "candied fruit" of the Christmas variety. Breakfast had to be rushed because there was a break in
the rain, therefore we had to immediately take "our gang" on their morning walk.

items, maybe tomorrow I can scratch some of them off. Have a good weekend. - Judy
PS
I was just reminded of a crazy Midtown Memphis happening of a few years ago.....
I broke up a fight, two women were in the middle of the street arguing over who was most
retarded and I was trying to drive down the street, line of traffic etc. The strangest
thing I ever saw, but one of the got hold of a hammer, so .... I simply got out of my car
went to them and said, this has gone far enough, let me have the hammer and ya'll get of
the middle of the street before someone calls the cops and you both get run in. She gave
me the hammer and they went to the sidewalk.
It would only happen in Midtown Memphis!!! Bob and I have laughed over that scene many
times and when we get a little disgusted with the other's behavior, we'll say the following
and start laughing... "I'm more retarded than you are!!"
Thursday - 08/10/06 6:00 AM

probably have to take "our gang" out to potty by moonlight.

Baby Noel -- our very own 10 month old ugly duckling -- enjoys scampering around with the BIG dogs...

She was born with what I think was a dermoid cyst on her neck. It was expressed, doctored,
etc. and we thought the situation was finished, but it was still
active. At age 3 weeks, it erupted causing her to lose her eye, as she developed we discovered it also caused her to
be deformed on her left side from her mouth to tail. When she was 3 weeks old we made the decision to help her
live her life as best she could for as long as she could.
Now she's a small Bully with a VERY independent attitude and high intelligence.
She does NOT like to cuddle, prefers playing with her toys or pouncing on her stuff
animals. She loves to run and play in the yard so we had to 'get over' being too
protective. Her little heart is content to be able to follow Bob all day.
If she could speak, she would ask you not to feel sorry for her because she doesn't know
she's different.... we didn't tell her. I hope the pictures make you smile.
Wednesday - 08/09/06 7:00 AM
We've taken the Bullies out to the dog runs for exercise, for how long depends upon
how fast the temperature rises. Our weather forecast for today is a high of 97° F and a low
tonight of 73° F, Chance of T-storms, 20% chance of precipitation. At present it is 78° F with an 81%
humidity. That makes breathing harder for animals and humans, so they won't be out but 45 minutes to an
hour at most. We'll keep a close watch on them.
This is a picture Bob took this morning of Sweetie Pie, out for exercise and potty break. We decided
she's getting a little too heavy, so I'm going to cut back on the "goodies" and we hopeful that
cooler weather where she can follow us around out in the yard will take the weight off.
Noel's after breakfast romp
Am I the only one who encounters unusual situations whenever they go anywhere.....
We went to the bank to withdraw money to pay the mechanic in cash for the repairs on my Volvo,
finally got the brakes fixed but it wasn't the brakes after all it was the struts.
A couple of blocks down the road from the bank is a thrift store where I stop ever so
often especially for toys for the pups, but I'm a junker so I stop by when I can.
The owner is extremely ill so her 16 year old son
is basically running the place now. As I was coming in he was going out the door to set
some merchandise on the sidewalk for display.
In just a moment he reappeared and said, will you get that book and knock this wasp off
me, he's already stung me once. It was clinging to the bottom of his shirt armhole where he
couldn't get to it. So I pick up the first book I could find and whopped that big ole
yellow wasp really hard, knocking him to the floor.
I suggested to the young man that he go next door and get some salt to put on whelp, but
he was in pain and just kind of pacing. I ran out to the van asked Bob if we had any
water, there was a dab in the bottom of a bottle. Then I ran to the convenience store next
door, grabbed a packed of salt and gave an explanation as I ran out the door. The sting
had produced an ugly red whelp. I poured the water into his hand because I couldn't get to the sting,
the young man rubbed it on, then I poured the salt in his hand and told him in my most
motherly voice to just dab on the salt, so it would stay. The young man was still in a
great deal of pain, but only a few minutes had passed before he said, you were right it
doesn't hurt anymore.
One good deed done, time to move on ... Judy
PS I have pictures of Baby Noel that we want to share with you, but it will take a good deal of time
to tell her story, so I'll be back later.

Good Morning!! Not much going on here. I had to take yesterday as a rest day and I feel

When we have young puppies, we can't leave the house for long but now that the only puppy
here is Itty Bitty Beth and she's 9 weeks old, we tucked all the Bullies, birds and
strays, under a/c and went out for lunch.
First we
stopped by Lowe's where I found a $1 plant sale in progress. Oh mercy I bought 5, 3 gallon pots
of Peacock Plant, a very striking variegated foliage house plant, badly in need of repotting. I'll
end up with 20 pots from those 5, Mercy what will I do with them.
From there we went to the New China Buffet for lunch, I'm never going to eat that much
again... I didn't notice the oysters on the half-shell until I had finished eating, but I
was able to consume a half
dozen as my dessert.
Afterward it was back to Lowe's to see if they had marked down more
plants, which they had. I bought 2 Jackson & Perkins yellow rose bushes and 2 Bromeliads which
were 75% off. Just what I needed MORE plants!! Again the Bromeliads need repotting desperately
and I'll end up with 6 pots with 2 bromeliads in each. As you can tell it was a Lucy Day (Lucille Ball).
On the way home, Bob and I agreed the day was just what we needed, doing what we
wanted to do, when we wanted to do it. Well part of the day, anyway. lol lol
Remember two things for today:
1) If you laugh and drink a soda at the same time, it will come out your nose.
2) You can't cry and suck on a tootsie roll pop at the same time, so always keep one handy. - Judy
Sunday - 08/06/06 8:30 AM
We got up early on Saturday morning, completed the morning chores, left here at 11:10 AM and we spent the next 7
hours away from home. We went to Jackson, TN to meet Maura, so she could get Ginger. Sorry I
was upset at the parting and forgot to take pictures.
We had a Gift Certificate for the Olive Garden Restaurant so we stopped there for lunch.
We then went to Home Depot for a new Ryobi weed whacker, Sam's Club for dog food, grocery
store, Wal-Mart because I forgot creamer for Bob's coffee and stopped at two roadside
produce stands where we got watermelons and tomatoes. At the last place we stopped the man
tending the stand was blind although there were no outward sign, I suppose to keep from feeling
vulnerable. I ask how much he was charging for the tomatoes to which he replied there weren't any.
Since there were several I said well how much are you charging for these things that look like
'maters, smell like 'maters and I bet taste like them. Whatever they are I'll take some and I giggled
Next he said, put you some in one of these bags, pointing to a place on the table in front of him
and weigh them. There were no bags, so I told
him the bags must have blown away but I had some in the van. I paid him, we giggled and I bid him
a Good Day.
Once home we had a good 2 hours work to do before we could relax, Bullies to walk and feed,
plants to water, clothes to get off the line, clothes to wash ... When I finally sat down,
I read an email from a long time friend, his son committed suicide last weekend and
his 55 year old wife has been diagnosed as having the early onset of Alzheimer's. I had been
informed about the son by mutual friends, but the wife's illness was a total shock. I didn't
sleep at all last night.
Enjoy every moment of life, we never know when our hopes and dreams will be shattered. - Judy

Good Morning, I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
With the last puppy going to her new home this week, we're in the process of creating a
cocoon which will help to nourish our souls and restore our energy, hopefully we
will undergo a miraculous metamorphosis and emerge as totally rested in mind and body in a few weeks.
The only aspect of life we found we couldn't improve upon is the weather. The heat and
humidity certainly saps our energy, but we remind ourselves often that fall will be
here before long.
Whenever I think of a cocoon, I'm reminded of this Luna Moth who perched during the day on
the front door. I hope you enjoy the photo as much
as I do. - Judy

Up and running this morning, trying to finish chores early so I can do some deep cleaning of the house.
I can only to a little at a time or the allergies knock me down. I have a thin face mask I'm planning on wearing, but
I can't breath with it on if I'm hot.
I hope you have a good Friday and your weekend is peaceful. - Judy

The Ryobi 990r weed/brush whacker is out of commision. Bob took it to a repair shop and was told mice had
eaten the ignition module, the part is no longer available, therefore it can't be fixed. I
can see damage to the wire that attaches to the spark plug, but I'm steady taking this
thing apart to look at the actual part, in hopes that the wire can be replaced, or I can
find a generic part.
I'm down to taking the starter housing off, but I can't figure out how remove a thin plate, stamped "off and an arrow" pointing to the right. There are 2 notches
one on each side of the plate which leads me to
believe I need a special tool to move this plate. I don't know what I'm doing,
but I'm surely not going to make the situation worse, it won't run anyway. Worse case, I'll
just gather all the parts, put them in a plastic bag and drop them in the dumpster. Best case
I'll save us around $300 for a replacement.
Here are some of the plants that are in bloom today. We've downloaded FREE photo software
from Google which enabled Bob to create this collage for your viewing pleasure. I hope you are
enjoying the flowers.

There were too many pictures to scatter around in Deb's description of her town, so I'm
posting them in a group. Bob was the photographer this morning. I hope you enjoy them.

This glimpse into life in Neshoba County, MS was written by my friend Deb and posted here
with her permission. I'll be back
shortly to scatter pictures of today's flowers through this entry. - Judy
Then there is very local lingo. My Mom's family has their own language - I keep saying
that we need to write a dictionary for the family reunions for the ferner's that come.
"Leanin toward Grayson's" means something is cockeyed, leaning, listing or veering.
"Speaking of Dr. Irby" means they are going to change the subject. There are many others.
Here in Neshoba County nobody buys anything they "trade" for it. Seriously, if one man
needs a car, tractor, truck, or lawn mower part; they search their shop or garage for
something a buddy needs so they can go trade him for what they need. And nobody here calls
anyone by their given name. They all have nicknames. I can't keep up. My husband calls everyone
"do-winker" because he stopped trying to remember names long ago. He truly believed that
his uncle's names were Son and Babe until I started addressing Christmas cards! The local
mechanic is called "Teacake" because his Momma use to make teacakes for all the kids. He
is at least 60 now.
I was born and raised in Mississippi but am a "ferner" in Neshoba
County. Have ya'll heard of the Neshoba County Fair where all the local folks move from
their comfortable homes and move into cabins on the fair grounds for a week. Its called a
large house party! I've visited friends there for several years now and it is SO
interesting...but I still don't get it. Most of the cabins have no a/c and when it rains,
the whole place is a large mudpuddle. They sit on their front porches and watch the
harness races and horse races and go to the midway and ride. I was behind a lady at Wally
World that was buying $500 worth of groceries for the week to take to the fair. There is
one day dedicated to Politician's speeches and Thursdays are dedicated to the town of
Philadelphia and the whole town closes down (banks and all).
I've lived in 6 different states and wouldn't move again if you paid me. Think of it. Most folks just read books
about places like this and we get to live here! - Deb

Itty Bitty Beth has been reserved for Liz in Ohio. She will be going to her new home soon and
we are delighted with the placement.
Here are some of the flowers in bloom today
Rose of Sharon, Althea (Hibiscus syriacus)
On July 21, I bought three very dried out, stressed out, no label small tropical hibiscus for $1
each at K-Mart. This morning I was greeted with this bloom, which I believe is color distorted due
to the pitiful condition of the plant. It looks much like "Hibiscus Cherie", maybe the next
bloom will be true. It's still a very small plant as you can see but it has several buds. The others
are about to bloom also.
Tuesday - 08/01/06 5:00 AM
Yesterday, I saw ants on one of my Hibiscus buds, so I took this picture
to post on a garden forum for advice. What I subsequently read was unreal, those ants have a
herd of aphids they farm just like a farmer with cows so they weren't eating my blooms
but the aphids were and the ants feed on their sticky secretions when they have consumed
too much. Enlarge the picture and you will see the green aphids and then at
the bottom larva, I believe.
Bob had to suit up again and spray all the plants for insects. The aphids and broad mites are
very difficult to eradicate completely.
I have three of these Milk & Wine Lilies which have bloomed at different times this
summer. If you drive through
the Southern part of the US and see clumps of large strap leaf lilies, there is a good chance that this is
the variety. It's a old 'pass along plant' and I love it.
We had a weird storm blow from the East instead of from the West.
It had hail in it but fortunately we didn't get any here, however we did get a light shower
and it dropped the temp to 72F long enough for us to take the dogs out to potty etc.
I had a really bad allergic reaction Monday night, so Bob made a trip into town yesterday and
bought an air purifier for the bedroom. I can really tell the difference. I hope it will enable me to sleep the complete night.
Many nights I wake up congested and then can't go back to sleep.
I sincerely hope your day goes well and you carry a smile in your heart. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and
other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old
before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing
and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She
had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight
yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect
her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed
behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life
changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and
became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were
robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the
country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
