We've been counting our Blessings today and realize once again we have many!!! We have had several heartwarming events take place in the last few weeks some of which were - a surprise box of goodies from Mary Ellen & Bullies of NY, renewal of special friendship, an email from a niece telling me she loved me, a telephone call from relatives living abroad and warm regards from a neighbor we had not met before.....

Saturday - 8/30/03 - 8:30 AM CDT

I didn't get an email from Tina yesterday, I am assuming she stayed at home with Big Boo and therefore did not have access to a computer.

Dingo, limping, came by for breakfast yesterday. Whenever it's been raining for several days or he has been injured he knows he can come here for a meal. We would love for him to stay, but he is and always will be a "wild dog".

The puppies are doing well. On occasion Bob is feeding the small male via syringe with milk he expressed from Smart Cookie or Charlotte, time alone will be the determining factor. He has no visible physical impairments, but he just is not a vigorous eater. Bob teases, "He's just the max in laidback, too lazy to eat".

Bob has gone to the vet's to have Carlotta, daughter of Charlotte & Elvis, bred to PepperJack so I have puppy duty and they are calling.....

Have a Good Labor Day Weekend!!!

Big Boo Update - Remember she has only paid a deposit on the operation, she still owes the Vet. How much I don't know, nor do I think she knows at this point. She still needs our help to pay the remainder of the bill!!!

Subject: Boo's surgery
Boo went into surgery @ 10:00 this morning, and was out at 11:30. The surgeon said it looks "good", but....if this doesn't work Boo will have to have a whole new leg. That's not what I wanted to hear AFTER a surgery. I'll be optimistic for Boo. I have to pick him up at 6:00 pm, because they didn't want to keep him with "all the things going on with him", but would for a rate of $24 per day.....even then, he would be left alone from 6:00 pm every night until they open at 7:00 am. That's a long time to be alone for a dog who might throw up at any time, and who needs potty breaks every 4 hours. Thank you for all you have done for us, Judy. This would not have been possible so soon if it had not been for you and everyone's donation....no matter how small they think their donation was, it was and is a huge amount to Boo and me.
I will update Boo's progress tomorrow.

- 9:30 AM CDT

BIG BOO'S BEING OPERATED ON TODAY!!!!! Please say a prayer!!

"When it rains, it pours" - so we've been up to our chins in work and complications not related to the puppies. The pups are doing great!! The only instance we had that was out of the ordinary was with the smallest male of Smart Cookie's litter. He isn't as vigorous an eater as the other pups, so a couple of times Bob collected milk from Charlotte and fed it to him via syringe. Both Charlotte and Smart Cookie have lots of milk so these little guys are really growing!!!

Have a wonderful day and stay on the Sunnyside Of Life!!

Wednesday - 08/27/03 - 9:30 AM CST

WOW!!! John Parker just bid $250 on the Custom Designed Website!!! John has an interesting life and it would be great to have a website reflect it!

- 5:00 AM CDT

Say a prayer!!!!! With the money contributed so far Tina, Big Boo's owner, was able to make a deposit on his surgery and it is scheduled for this Thursday!!!!

Yesterday, we received a $150 bid from John Parker, on the Custom Designed Website Auction and then last night we got one for $175 from Chuck and Kim. The bidding closes at 2 PM CDT Friday, August 29th. If you have not contributed but are planning on doing so, please go ahead so we can help take some of the pressure off of Tina.

She's a wonderful lady ... when I was sick earlier in the year she called to tell me "she loved me" and offered to take her vacation so she could come down here to help take care of "our gang". How many people do you know would do something like that for another person!!!

We're all fine!! Here is a picture of Smart Cookie with her "babies". Smart Cookies 08/24/03 Litter Charlotte is really making us crazy and not letting us sleep for wanting to be with Precious all the time. Since Smart Cookie is so small we fear she will not have enough milk for the puppies as they get older, so we're also letting them nurse Charlotte. The more puppies that are put with her the happier she is!!! The problem is we have other chores to do so we can't sit right with her 24x7 to let her be with the pups !!! I'm going to work on this problem today!!!

I got a $50 check in the mail for Big Boo yesterday from a couple in NY who have one of Charlotte & Elvis' Offspring!!! Thank you so much!! Tina has been in contact with the surgeon and is waiting now for a clinic an hour away from her location to schedule a date and time for the operation, she's told them about our fund raiser and the amount of money she will be able to put down as a deposit. Also John Parker, who has one of our Bullies, is attempting to assist her in challenging the pet insurance company's refusal to pay for the operation, since it was an accident.

Babies are calling ..... have a Good Day!!!

Monday - 8/25/03 - 9:30 AM

Smart Cookies 08/24/03 Litter I've included two pictures, one of Smart Cookie in the van on the way home from the vet's and the other one taken this morning while she was letting the pups nurse.

Crazy Monday!!!! Jeb is mad and fussy because he can't be part of taking care of the babies. With the last litters he was unable to walk so he got to be right in the middle of everything. He loved to hang his head over the pool to let them lick and bite on him. Given his mood I thought a little time spent outside would be a good idea. He headed straight for Bob's watermelon patch, which is growing on black plastic. I arrived just in time to see the poor guy get tangled up going forward so he put himself in reverse and looked like a jeep backing out of a mud hole. LOL LOL I'm running in and out of the house, doing my chores when I suddenly realize he's missing. We looked everywhere but couldn't find the brat. I walked down the drive and out into the road and sure enough he was about 100 yards down in the side ditch. I went up to him, bend down, took his sweet face in my hand and told him how bad he was. I swear he looked "sorry". We started walking back, all of a sudden he looked up at me and did a u- turn. At that point, I caught up with him and slipped a lead around his neck. Enough!!

Smart Cookies 08/24/03 Litter Back in the house, I put him in a crate because I had reached my limit. A few minutes later he started barking like a broken record! I had been in the laundry room folding clothes but now he was really going to get a scolding. When I saw him, I almost "had an accident" laughing so hard. Bob and I had been bathing Bullies and evidently I had put the cup used to hold the shampoo in the dishwasher without making sure it was empty, because all along the sides of the dishwasher soap suds were bubbling out. Jeb was sure it was some kind of "bugger". LOL LOL My teenage brat, doesn't he understand my brain is too tired this morning to truly appreciate how wonderful he is!!!! I'm so glad he won't be driving a car!!

- 6:00 AM CST

Bob found the problem with the website, we had over 1000 emails with virus attachments which consumed all of the disk space. He eliminated the problem so we will be able upload pictures later today.

All the puppies are doing well so far. We're still holding our breath because the first week is critical.

Have a Good Day!!! - Judy

Sunday - 8/24/03 - 6:00 PM CDT

Boy Howdy!!! What a hectic 24 hours we've had!!! Late yesterday morning, Smart Cookie was having a heck of a time breathing, first she has a soft palate longer than I would have liked for it to be so her normal breathing sounds like that of an obscene telephone caller, couple that with a head cold or an allergic reaction I don't know which, plus babies pressing against her "everything", it became a source of great concern. The vet's office told me I could give her 1/4 of a antihistamine, every 6 hours or so and it somewhat relieved the laborious breathing. We were up and down, it seems like all night. At 4 AM Smart Cookie's temperature was normal and she didn't have milk so we went back for a nap. Precious was fed at 6 and then at 8:30 and afterward our cloudy brains focused back on Smart Cookie. Her temperature was dropping, she had milk and she was extremely uncomfortable, but not trying to nest. At 9:30 her temperature dropped below 100 so I was on the telephone to the Vet on emergency duty, Dr Pulse. He agreed to meet us at 10:30 AM and by 11:30 we had 7 healthy "babies", the 8th was a waterbaby and did not survive. All these babies from small Smart Cookie who normally only weighs 30 lb. She weighed 52 pounds this mornings before the c-section. After the delivery her breathing was so much better.

Peanut was anxious to know about his siblings and when we told him 4 females and 3 males, he said "Oh No!!!" but Sugar Cookie kept singing "Girls Rule!!!".

- 8:00 AM

Just had to post this email for everyone to enjoy!!! Roxie is from Sleepy & PepperJack's 12/13/02 litter.

Judy, Bob and Peanut, the other night Scott and the boys were over at the neighbors swimming. Of course (nosy butt) Roxie had to go too! She stood on the top step of the pool and barked like a broken record until Scott would carry her around in the water! The boys thought it was funny. Scott sat her back upon the top step and told her he wanted to swim, she started her barking again. About the time Scott walked down the steps and a small way out into the water, a horsefly landed on Roxie's rear-end. Well, it must have stung her because she ran down the stairs straight into the water and started swimming for her life right into Scott's arms! She has to be the biggest goof ball in the world!!! The boys loved it. They think she needs a bulldog bikini, but Bronson said, "Roxie would need allot of bikini tops to cover all of her you know whats."
Never a dull moment around here!
Hope you are all doing great! Susie.

Saturday - 8/23/03 - 8:00 AM

Just to let you know that Precious is just fine, nursing well, etc. Smart Cookie's 60th day is tomorrow, so now we start watching very closely. She's eating like a pig which is great. She's so big with babies that I think she's going to have 6 or so. Can you imagine 6 Peanuts!!! I can't imagine 6 Sugar Cookies, bossy thing that she is!!!

Speaking of the "babies", Jeb is getting into so much mischief lately. I went outside to hang up sheets and heard this loud breathing, there he was in the garden patch, trying his dangest to pull a green tomato off the vine. We had noticed that some of the tomatoes had either teeth marks or a bite taken out of them as well as the hot peppers but thought it was a rabbit, now we're not so sure that it was a rabbit. lol lol He had been running loose in the house and evidently got out the door as I went in and out ..... No!!! I pay attention to what I'm doing ...he probably got out when Bob made a trip outside and he didn't even notice. Bob's mind was probably busy designing a website or composing me a Love Note!!! lol lol

Have a Great Day!!! - Judy

Friday - 8/22/03 - 10:30 AM

We call her Precious!!!Isn't she Precious!!! She is going to be a bronze color. I couldn't resist posting these pictures Bob took of her in the middle of the night. Also Charlotte looked so pitiful "coming around after the c-section" yesterday that I had to take her picture. If you have ever had surgery you know exactly how she feels, drugged!!!

Charlotte - Coming Around After C-Section!
Gracious dialing into our server to upload this latest news has been a frustrating experience. If my journal isn't updated for a few days it's only because the new virus are preventing it. I'm getting at least 80 emails with the virus attached per day, so I'm going to disconnect the Form Email function.- Judy

We call her Precious!!!
- 6:00 AM CDT

There are so many new virus lately that are hitting the websites, servers and home computers that we were just unable to dial into our Internet server at all last night.

Charlotte slept all yesterday. I called the vet's about 1 PM and made an appointment for a possible c-section at 4 PM. Sure enough she had started to dilate so we went ahead with the c-section. She has two babies but one was a waterbaby therefore didn't survive. I instantly feel in love with the surviving female. She gladdened my heart beyond words, we're going to call her Precious, because that she is. I told Bob not to worry we were not keeping any more puppies, but I surely was going to make sure she went into a home where she will be loved and protected until she leaves this world. Say a prayer, the first week is critical. - Judy

Thursday - 8/21/03 - Noon CDT

So here we sit unsure about Charlotte going into labor. She's acting sick, won't eat etc., also she has milk, but her temperature has not started to drop. We're really concerned because a year ago she had a litter of 5 but only 2 survived. If we take them too early we run the risk of this happening or if we wait too long. This is the part I hate about breeding Bullies.

Wednesday - 8/20/03 - 2:00 PM CDT

Jazzman was trying to go for another swim in the Goldfish Pond
Jazzman - 7 Months Old! Jazzman - 7 Months Old! Enter Here For More Pictures Jazzman & The Pond

- 7:30 AM CDT

Charlotte are her breakfast so she won't be having puppies today!!!

Jazzman should have been named Gusto, because he does everything with gusto!! Yesterday morning he had a very bad limp, from his foray into the Goldfish Pond, but this morning there is no limp at all. I can just hear the conversation he must have had with Jeb, The Champ. "How come you're limping", to which Jazzman bragged, "got a little banged up making a great dive into the Pond". I know this conversation took place, because yesterday afternoon I caught Jeb in midair, he was trying his best to dive into the pond.

Speaking of Jeb, two days ago he was outside with me but when I went back into the house I made him stay because he had been getting underfoot. He put up a good fuss, but I just ignored him. I was watering the plants on the porch when I heard a loud "plop" and looked through the window to see him on top of a box fan, he had knocked it over and crawled on top of it trying to get the doggie treats. I shouted "no" and then went to the back door to tell him what a bad doggie he was. My "angel", the sweetest Bully on earth, came around the corner to greet me, tried unsuccessfully to pick up a Dr K canned drink and licked his lips to let me know he wanted it. The case of drinks now littering the floor had been in a cardboard container which was scattered about the room in pieces. Immediately, I noticed that he had also been chewing on the bottom rung of a cheap bar stool I use for a plant stand.
What do I conclude, when I refused to let him hang around me, he did what a lot of teenagers do, he rebelled. He's been doing a lot of that lately, I believe he's jealous of Jazzman, although there is no hostility. The other 6 month old pups he regards as younger siblings, but Jazzman came to us all grown-up. Boys will be boys!!! LOL LOL

Have a Great Day!!! - Judy

Tuesday - 8/19/03 - 8:00 AM CDT

Charlotte, a.k.a. Miss Wiggle Butt, won't be going into labor today, she just ate a full breakfast!! Normally when they are really close to having their pups, they look at the food, lick their lips and swallow hard - like they know if they eat it they will "upchuck". When this happens it's time to check for other signs that we should be on our way to the Vet's.

Bob has gone to take Cowboy to the vet's to have his "cherry eye" surgery. He has one in each eye. My opinion is playing with other animals puts the pup at risk for getting a cherry eye, in the playing the 3rd eye lid gets damaged, infected, etc. On the other hand 3 out of 4 of Amber & Mini-E's last litter have had a cherry eye, whereas none of the Smart Cookie & Mini-E pups have, so that makes me think it is combination of genes or genetic - maybe Amber has a recessive gene and so does Mini-E?? Then I really get confused because I have different thoughts on the subject, but I'm in good company the veterinary community has mixed opinions also.

Baby Snooks has complete recovered from her injuries due to the accident involving the heavy wood box. Four of the Eastern Bluebirds died and if Lynyrd lives I have decided we will just have to keep him, maybe I can get a special permit from the Government. Several people tried to tell us it was useless to try to save them, but Bob refused to give up. Bless his heart, he has been so distressed over their dying. I surely hope Lynyrd, The Free Bird, makes it.

Mo, a.k.a Sweetpea, has a big, nasty looking "hot spot" along the side of her neck and Jazzman hurt his foot during his foray into the Goldfish Pond. So they will requiring special care for the next few days.

I've got lots to do today, our hot and humid weather of late has taken away my desire to do very much outside, but now I have to make myself get to work.

Have a Good Day!! - Judy

Monday - 8/18/03 - 5:00 PM CDT

Miss B is pregnant with 4 or so pups. Reba & Mo are not pregnant, disappointing but just part of raising Bullies, you just shake your head and be THANKFUL for what you got!!!

Charlotte is at day 61 so she could have her pups tomorrow.. I don't believe she will tonight because she ate a little this morning and again at noon. We'll see if she will eat in the morning and if not take her in for a c-section. She's not too big so I would say 3 puppies max! Smart Cookie on the other hand is REALLY big so I'm going to guess that she will have 7 puppies. Have a Good Night!! - Judy

- 10:00 AM CDT

I hope you have a wonderful day!!!! My heart is full of tender thoughts and happy expectations. I paused to consider the source and decided it was - all the caring, loving people out there who are praying for Big Boo and sending their money. Such an outpour of human kindness!! It renews our faith in mankind!!!

Sunday - 8/17/03 - 6:00 PM CDT

We had the 5 six month old pups and 2 grown females out to potty at the same time, without leads. As I bent over to pull up some weeds I heard a "plunk", Jazzman was in the Goldfish Pond, up to his nose in water. I panicked, grabbed him by the folds of skin on his back and pulled so his head would be out of the water. I was screaming for Bob to help me, as I held Jazzman with one hand and with the other held back Peanut & Count who thought it would be great fun to go swimming with Mama Judy. I have a bad foot and leg therefore when the other pups started bumping into my leg it was hard to maintain my balance. I thought, any second I was going in head first ... just in time Big Bob came to the rescue grabbing hold of my pants with one hand and Jazzman with the other!!!

Saturday - 8/16/03 - 4:30 PM CDT

The postman just delivered our mail which contained four checks for Big Boo totaling $170!! We've also just gotten a bid of $80 on the Creation Of A Custom Website, which is an increase of $5. The total money donated so far is $560!!! Our goal is $2,000 so we're over a fourth of the way there!!!
Thank You, Thank You to everyone who has contributed!!

Doesn't this just make your heart feel good!!!!

- 10:00 CDT

My, but things are getting hectic here!!! We've been dealing with problems associated with extended family and they have really drained us of our energy. Weatherwise it has either been blazing hot or raining, neither of which are conducive to cutting the grass so it's horribly overgrown.

I have five people who are wanting my help in selling their puppies!!!! I try to help everyone I can but this is overwhelming!!! People just don't realize the magnitude of such a request

- People will hold me responsible for the health, etc of the puppies in their mind because it was through my website that they were purchased. Should the pup have a physical problem later, I'll be the one to have to deal with it - hence the fund raiser for Big Boo because that is exactly what happened.

- We have 5 possible litters of our own to sell which is essential for the support of "our gang" through the coming months, plus rescues, strays that came to stay and the cats someone threw away. If I help other people to sell their pups it will take away from the pool of potential buyers for our pups.

- We are already committed to help sell a possible litter for Gina & Phillips. They helped to restore order to our lives after I became sick earlier in the year, so I will gratefully help them.

- Caring for more than two litters will make me crazy. The first litter is to be born within days!! If we have more than 3 litters, I'm going to be mean and grouchy because I will not get any sleep at all.

Puppies make us smile and their sloppy kisses warm our hearts, I want to enjoy the time we have with the upcoming litters.

Friday - 8/15/03 - 2:15 CDT
We had a computer to crash so this wasn't uploaded on time. Hopefully the computer is going to be fine now.

- 11:00 AM CDT

My plea for donations to pay for Big Boo's operation has raised $310.26, plus a $75 bid on The Creation Of A Website, making it a grand total of $385.26.

We just added the Website Auction yesterday and hope it will be a good Fund Raiser. Bob will spend many hours building this website so offering it was not taken lightly by us. The website can be any topic (big business, small business, youth camp, family, family reunion, church, church group, missionary activates, etc).

Enter Here - Custom Designed Website Auction Details.

A custom built website for under $300 it would be a steal. The last time I checked prices, about a year ago, the design alone was $100 per page. We're offering 10 pages and 50 pictures, a $1,000 value!!!!

Please pass this information along to anyone you know who wants a website.

Have A GREAT Weekend!!! - Judy

Thursday - 8/14/03 - 8:00 AM CST

It's count down time on Charlotte going into labor. She could possibly go as early as Sunday or as late as next Friday. We will take her to the Vet for a c-section the minute she shows signs of going into labor. We'll get prepared by getting her pool ready, laying down a water-proof bedding in the van - layer of plastic then an old comforter - plus gather soft t-shirts, bath clothes and hand towels for cleaning and reviving the "babies". These have to be almost worn-out so they are soft, soft!!! All of this, plus the Snuggle Safe disks we use to keep them from getting chilled, will go in the Rubber Maid storage box used to bring the puppies home. Just in case we have an emergency c-section, I'll go ahead and put all this into the van.

I tried to get her to stand still for pictures, but she is in a mode where she hurries outside, takes a long time to find just the right spot to potty, then beats a retreat into the house. These are the best we could do. You'll see I was trying to slow her down but it didn't help.

Today is cleaning day, with all the rain we've had the kitchen/utility room floors are hopeless covered with semi-muddy paw prints, what a mess!!!! I can't teach them to wipe their feet!! LOL LOL

Have a wonderful day!!! - Judy

Wednesday - 08/13/03 - 4:00 PM CST

I'll sprinkle in a few pictures of Jeb, The Champ, and Bizkit as I tell this story.

Today was shopping day!!! We got up early, took care of "our gang" and made the 3 hour round trip to Tupelo, Mississippi to get dog food, returning via Corinth Mississippi to Wal-Mart, six hours later.

Inside Wal-Mart, I started trembling and I knew I was going to faint. I reached for the first thing I could stuff into my mouth which happened to be a bag of chips. It was then that I realized it was 2 PM and I hadn't eaten since 9 AM and we had been up and working since 4 AM. We immediately headed out of the store. Waiting for the cashier, I was steady stuffing my face!!! Once she scanned my chips, I went outside to sit on the bench.

I told the two old gentlemen sitting there, to please pardon my unladylike behavior but I had to have food in me immediately. Bob came out and told me he would go get the van and come back to get me. That is how it came about that I was sitting on a bench outside the Wal-Mart on a muggy afternoon talking up a storm with two men in their middle 80's.

The self-proclaimed "younger one" ask, if they made me pay full price for the bag of chips since someone had eaten half of them. LOL LOL They were hungry for conversation. Spewing chips all over me and them, I laughed at their jokes and said they looked far younger than their ages. One of them said "I wonder what people would do if I laid down out there in the middle of that asphalt", to which I responded, "Nothing. They would ignore you because acknowledgement assumes a type of responsibility. It would take someone like me to come along." It was about this time that Bob pulled up to see me and the two "old gentlemen" laughing and having a good time. As Bob loaded the groceries, the men kept up the banter and the oldest one call out, he'd give the 'laying on the asphalt' some more thought, and I told him he surely was old enough to do what he wanted, but if they put him in the "loony bin" to be sure to call me to get him out. LOL LOL LOL

Wal-Mart has replaced the country store, but at least they kept the concept of the benches out front so people could "visit" with one another!!!

Tuesday - 8/12/03 - 6:30 AM CST

I got an email from Tina yesterday, Bless Her Heart, she is so grateful to the people who have shown their emotional support for Big Boo via contributions to his operation fund. She is an extremely nice lady.

I'm sprinkling in a few pictures taken recently - first is Peanut, then his sister, Sugar

I've been awake since 3:30 AM but didn't force myself out of bed until 5 o'clock. Instead I laid in bed reading a book, mystery of course. It's 67 degrees with 100% humidity and is suppose to rain about 1 PM. Meanwhile I have the attic fan running, to eliminate doggie odor. We open the windows and turn on the fan at every opportunity.

Charlotte is driving us crazy wanting people food instead of her Purina Puppy Chow. I think someone has spoiled her. It must have been Bob because I wouldn't do something like that ... lol lol. Smart Cookie is being very good and getting very large with puppies. Miss B and Reba are gaining weight but we're not going to call them pregnant until they have an ultrasound on 8/18.

Monday - 8/11/03 - 3:30 PM CST

My plea for donations to pay for Big Boo's operation has only raised $100.26 so far!!! Looks like I'm going to have to get more creative!! If you have any ideas, please let me know.

I'm working hard today answering my backlog of emails, plus editing and reducing the pictures that were attached, so they can be posted. Where I haven't decided yet, I'll work on that tonight.

I've been a little under the weather, literally, for the past few days. Due to excessive rain plus high humidity when it wasn't raining, I'm having difficulty breathing, but I'll bounce back in a day or so. - Judy

Sunday - 8/10/03 - 5:00 AM CST

Love notes under my pillow, sitting on my computer keyboard, in the refrigerator, taped to the microwave .... a heart drawn on the bathroom mirror which became visible as condensation from my shower painted the background ... positive remarks on a daily basis "You Are Beautiful", "You're So smart"...these are a few of the reasons why I love Big Bob.

Have a wonderful day!!! - Judy

Saturday - 8/09/03 - 7:00 AM CST

Big Boo's Operation Fund got a $50 donation yesterday from Priscilla of Memphis. She has one of our Bullies, Fatima, daughter of Brooks and Elvis' DOB 10/02/00. Thank you so much!!!

All our tomato plants and cucumber vines are beginning to rot because it has rained so much but they have been in the peak of production so we have been enjoying fresh salads. Yesterday, I made Blue Cheese dressing from scratch and Ranch dressing from a packet adding mayo and buttermilk.

It's time to plant fall cucumber and tomatoes, something I've never done. I've been told they will do very well if we extend the season by building a plastic covered cage to put over them at night. I just can't figure out how I could handle something that big, plus there is the potential problem of the strong winds in our area blowing it over and destroying the plants in the process. I'm certainly going to have to think on this one.

Here's a new picture of Jazzman & Count. Have a wonderful weekend. - Judy

Friday - 8/08/03 - Noon CST

Our Fund Raiser for Big Boo is going very slow. So far there has only been 3 purchases with an earned commission of $20.26. I'm disappointed because I made a purchase of $350 so most of the commissions earned was due to my purchase.....

As we travel through life, sooner or later we all face tragedy. "Just to be aware that other people know what we are facing and have sympathy for us, helps to nourish our soul and give us the strength to endure. When faced with a heartbreaking situation, we need encouragement to maintain our dignity and fight to survive."

What better way to show you care than to make a donation!!! Remember "what goes around, comes around" and those of us who love Bullies need to take care of one another. - Judy

Thursday - 8/07/03 - 8:00 AM CST

Our Fund Raiser for Big Boo is going very slow. So far there has only been 1 purchase with an earned commission of $1.60. I don't know about cash donations via PayPal, only Tina has access to that information. Maybe there will be more activity today!!

In yesterday's mail, we received a unique present too wonderful for words. LuJean of Boise, Idaho spent a lot of time selecting just the right stone with one end flat, on which to paint the face of a Bully, then the underside is the remainder of the Bully body, she has an outstanding artistic talent. We will cherish this gift for forever!!!

Funny happening this morning, Sugar Cookie is always trying to be boss so this morning, Bob let her have Jazzman's lead, to our surprise she led him into the house and to a crate, but when she saw his treats, she jumped in ahead of him staking claim to the goodies!! LOL LOL They are always making us laugh.

Please help us to raise money to pay for Big Boo's second operation!!

He was in a freak accident which broke his hip and his knee, resulting in surgery with insertions of pins to hold the leg together. The owner had pet insurance but after the first surgery she was sent a "refusal to pay" because it was deemed to be genetic. Naturally, that's a good out for them. She took out a second mortgage on her house to pay the bill. Then his knee slipped out of place and he has to have a second operation. She is no longer able to borrow money.

Please help us to raise the money for his next surgery!!! All proceeds from the above Fund Raiser will go to his owner, Tina O'Brien. If you want to make a direct donation, please use PayPal and make the payment to: tobrien.co@mansfield.k12.oh.us

If you want to send a check please make it out to "Tina O'Brien" and send it to my address:

%Judy M. Cooksey-Cowling

Pocahontas, TN 38061

since I am unable to contact her for an address at present.

Tuesday - 8/05/03 - 9:00 AM CST

We got two wonderful presents in the mail yesterday from our friends Kim & Donney who live in Georgia. The first was a framed poem about Bullies with a place for us to insert a picture of "our gang". The other was a framed picture of their Bully, Leo, who is the son of Pepper Jack and Sleepy.

Of all the Bullies pictures I've ever seen, this one of Leo had the most fearsome look. I even passed along an idea for a small business she could try, using that particular picture. Actually he was miffed at her because she was holding his treat just out of reach. Leo looks very much like Jeb.

Baby Snooks who was injured at the same time as Sara is doing much better and I am confident she will be just fine!! At first she was limping on her back left leg, then she couldn't get up off her side, so we were having to move her around, hand feed her, change her bed almost hourly. We started her on diuretics because it was obvious she had terrible fluid retention. She's taking steroids now and is able get out of her bed and move around on her own, but she's still favoring her left leg somewhat.

Helpful Hint - to assist a dog who can not stand on it's own due to in injury but is in distress because they can't "do their business"/eliminate body waste, hold it upright by wrapping a towel around it's middle then holding both ends of the towel up above the back, gently lift into a standing or partially standing position. BUT before you attempt this, ask your vet if this would be right for your dog's situation.

Gabby has an vaginal infection so the breeding with Mini-E probably will not result in puppies.

One of the Rescued Eastern Bluebird babies died yesterday, Bob had moved them to his shop so they wouldn't be exposed to the fumes from the floor finishing and when he went to get them two hours later the it was almost dead. We think perhaps it got so scared in the new surrounds that it battered itself to death on the side of the cage. (It wasn't Lynyrd, the Free Bird)

I changed my mind about getting Bob a baby large bred parrot for his birthday, I forgot just how messy birds can be....that from a crazy woman with 5 six month old puppies in the house!!! LOL LOL

Bob put the final coat of finish on the floors of the front two downstairs rooms. He has a few little places to touch up and then he's finished. He's starting on the design for the trim work today, I hope.

Well that certainly is a lot of news for one day, but you are now up-to-date on "Life With Judy"!!

Monday - 8/04/03 - 7:00 AM CST

This is day 11 with the Rescued Eastern Bluebirds and they are doing great!!! I saw Bob rubbing them on the head with his finger. I told him I knew it was hard not to love on the little fellas when they were begging for it, but I was afraid it might make them fly to people once they are set free and that could be disastrous. Gosh, what's "the right thing to do"???

Only In The South -
"Hogs & Heifers Cafe, Serving You With The Best Steaks-N-Chops In This Area, Tuscumbia, Alabama" We haven't sampled their food yet, but are planning on it, the first time we go that way. LOL LOL LOL

Sunday - 8/03/03 - 7:30 AM CST

More sad news!! Our Sara past away last night, cause of death was "internal injuries". She and three other Bullies were romping around playing when all four collided into a heavy wooden box, it fell on Sara. Just a freak accident that also hurt Baby (she's better today) but of course, I'm feeling guilty for the box being there.

Doesn't it seem that bad news comes in multiples. Today it's going to be hard to "keep on the sunny side of life", but we'll try hard to make this day the best that it can be!!

Judy

Saturday - 8/02/03 - 5:00 AM CST

Congratulations to Lisa of San Antonio, TX on her first litter, 7 beautiful "babies" born on the 30th, 4 girls & 3 boys. Champion Sired!!! Abbie, the Mother is Daughter of KC & PepperJack, Granddaughter of Charlotte & Elvis. She's Little Britches' Half-Sister!!

The Rescued Eastern Bluebirds are protected in the Migratory Bird Act so I have sent an email to the US Fish & Wildlife Service asking how to proceed.

Bob has gone to the vet's to breed Gabby to Mini-E. She was bred yesterday, but since tomorrow is Sunday we went ahead with getting an AI done today. She will probably be bred Monday also.

Friday - 8/01/03 - 3:30 PM CST

VERY SAD NEWS!!! I got this email from Kim just now:

Judy, Little Britches died this morning. He was exactly 6 months old today.

These were taken Tuesday morning. Big sister, Mika, made a wonderful pillow. We're not the only ones that are going to miss him. This picture was just too cute, I wanted you to see the "vicious" nature of bulldogs. KC, Magnum, and Mika all knew he was sick (birth defect)--they all gave in to him and helped us spoil him. -Kim

- 6:30 AM CST

We're up and working but our hearts are very heavy out of concern for our friends.

Why I'm Nicknamed PuppyGal

"We have one mission in life, and that mission is to love" - Mother Theresa

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 50 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love dogs… smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
