"Bully Head Tremors"

More input, this email is from Lynn who has raised several Bullie and is the proud owner of Rroscoe's sister

Subject: Head tremors
Name: Lynn
Hi Judy,
Thought I would add my two cents too. One of our bullies developed head tremors also. I called the vet and he asked if she had been playing tug recently. Well, she had been. Our oldest had some friends over and they played tug with her (more than she was used to). For about a week she would have a random tremor and then they just disappeared. Needless to say, we never played tug again. The vet figured she must have strained a muscle that caused it to spasm. I noticed Roscoe playing with his friend and it triggered my memory. They are pretty upsetting to see, the dog looks miserable.

All is well here. Gracie is a little sweat heart. She loves to pick up sticks in the yard. Half the time she goes out to potty, she is really on a stick hunt mission. My front porch is littered with her treasures. I don't allow her to chew them, she just carries them to the door. Then she turns and looks at me like, "look what wonderful treasure I found". Then she allows me to have it and she walks in the door. What a character!!!! Oh, by the way, she finally mastered going down the 2 steps into the laundry room. Of course, that just means I have to keep everything up of the floor or she makes nests out of it all. Lynn

This could explain why we haven't experienced this problem .. we don't play tug. Beth and Roscoe's Mama we need additional input from you, if possible. - Judy

Somehow during this crazy weekend, Bob managed to bake the last of the $.49 a lb turkeys we happened across at Christmas. Yesterday I picked the meat off the bone. Bob had a turkey sandwich, I cooked a turkey pot pie for me and made turkey gravy with the remaining broth and some of the meat for the critters. Today we soaked kibble, poured a generous portion of gravy over the top and stirred in their monthly wormer.

Yesterday when I was working on the turkey, Jeb kept begging and you know I kept giving him bites, but I have to be fair so all the critters were getting bites. I wore myself out just walking around giving them nibbles. lol lol Now they have made Jeb the official beggar and he does such a good job of it, limps a little, waves his front paw at me and gives a little whiney bark, like I know you have turkey in the frig and I really need some, look I'm limping. lol lol

Speaking of limping, Boomer is still limping but he also went hunting this afternoon. I think he wanted rabbit for supper and had talked Dumpy into helping him. Fluffy said she wasn't going, she was opposed to eating wild game and having to spit out the fur. It was easier to beg from Mama Judy, especially since Jeb was doing most of the work.

I'm on my way to bed. - Judy

Roscoe (a.k.a. Jackson)From Juliet & Jazzman's 04/13/08 Litter
He is the one that had head tremors the other night

-Roscoe sometimes visits his grandmother's grocery store and he loves to greet customers!
-Roscoe cuddles constantly!
-Roscoe loves to sit in my desk chair. It's come to the point where I put 2 office chairs side by side-- one for Roscoe and one for me do work in.
-Roscoe and his friend Diggy play tug a war with Barney
-Roscoe is in his crate outside (per your advice-- it worked perfectly!)

Subject: head tremors

Judy, Just read your journal from this afternoon and thought I would comment about the Bully with head tremors/shaking. I don't know if you remember that I wrote you about the same thing a few years ago when my Ollie started doing that. Sometimes in his sleep and sometimes while he was awake. My Vet at the time didn't seem to know much about them so I did my own research. It appears that they are harmless although they look really scary. They don't appear to cause any health problems or shorten a dog's life span. Bulldogs are one of the breeds that seem to have them but their are others as well. There are no known triggers, but as you so well stated, going "green" is the best way to go with a Bulldog since they are prone to allergies. I noticed with Ollie that there is no pattern, he will have a few for a day or two and then none for several months. The best advice I found in my research though is to give them a few bites of a treat one at a time and they will instantly stop. It seems that the brain responds to the sight of the treat and knows to "chew" instead of shake the head. It works and whenever he starts to shake, I instantly get a biscuit and break off little pieces and feed them to him and he stops right away. They don't seem to impair him in any way, but he will come and find me when it happens because he knows he's going to get a treat. He will be five years old in June and has been doing it since about two and of all four of my Bulldogs, he is the healthiest one. He has never been to the Vet except for normal check-ups and shots. I hope this helps the lady with the Bulldog who has the head tremors. I honestly think it is harder on us than the dogs. She can put in a search on her computer and probably find even more information than I found. I think I searched "head tremors in Bulldogs" when I looked it up. Hope this helps. Hugs, Beth

Thanks so much Beth for the information, I've passed it along to Roscoe's Mama and wanted to post it here in case another person has a Bully experiencing the same thing.

Iris In Bloom Today

Sunday - April 27, 2008 9:45 PM
Oh Mercy, this just can't be happening is what I thought to myself ... late Wednesday afternoon I got a call from a woman who returned home from work, after having picked up her children from the babysitter, to find their English Bulldog puppy dead. She had placed the body on the kitchen table; the children were asking if it would wake up. Oh Me, I could hear them asking the question in the background. She's crying, the children are crying … she called me … now I'm crying.

I'm never, ever going to answer the telephone again, but for now Judy remain calm … I asked her if there was a cloth on the table, to which she replied "No". I repeated to myself …this lady is in shock and you are going to have to walk her through what she should do. I said, OK, go get a sheet and fold it into quarters, wrap it around the puppy, but still leave him on the table. This task accomplished, as I walk up the stairs I ask her for her Zip code, I sat down in front of my computer and pulled up www.wunderground.com They predicted a low in her area of 32F, thank the Good Lord. I told her it was very important to both she and the breeder to know why the puppy died, therefore she needed to take the puppy to her vet as soon as they opened in the morning so they could send it off for an autopsy. So while I'm talking to you pick up the puppy and walk out to your car and put him in the trunk.

This is not my puppy I have no responsibility or ownership of this situation, but I can't hang up the telephone … somewhere in my soul there must be golden words which will make this burden lighter for those involved. Maybe… "His days on this earth were limited and you were chosen to love him those few days."

I ask if there is a Mr. and if so when will he be home. There is no Mr. I ask if there are other family members who can come stay with them for a few hours. We are both crying on the telephone, we both hurt. After an hour, I hang up the telephone and ask Bob, "Why Me" and he responds, because you care. - Judy

Sunday - April 27, 2008 2:30 PM
It was one o'clock in the morning when the phone rang ... still asleep I picked up the phone and said, "this better be good" to which the male voice responded, "I hope so". I slammed down the phone and unplugged it.

Friday at midnight the phone rang again … I stumbled from the bed to the phone and pushed the "on" button, then the "off" button, the dang thing rang again, so I did the same. The third time I picked up the phone and was ready to give that man some very sharp words. It was a lady who had gotten a puppy from me a year ago. All of a sudden his head had started shaking … half asleep I had to wake up fast. Head shaking surfaced memories of an old Pug rescue years ago who eventually died in my arms as I sang "Swing Low Sweet Chariots Coming For To Carry Me Home". It seemed to comfort both of us.

This was the first time his head had started to shake so I concluded it must be environmental, but told her to take a video of him with his head shaking for their vet. I asked what cleaning products she used and if she used a new one today. She had used a new air freshner, plus she was using Swiffler products for which I have a warning on my website. I told her she needed to take him out of the environment. She said his crate was too big to take out the door to which I responded, try it. Once she got him outside of the house his head stopped shaking .. Thank the Good Lord.

GO GREEN FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR BULLY!!!

Sunday - April 27, 2008 11:30 AM
Gracious it has been raining all morning and the bullies are pretending to be asleep, except for Li'l Cookie, she's being her robust self. We've been eating tiny carrots, she'll eat anything that I'm eating. Silly Goose!!

Bob and I have been working hard to get the porches arranged for the Summer ... bringing down the furniture which has been stored upstairs, whew I guessed right on the size of the new cushions. In the process we were deciding upon items to donate to the Friends of Hardeman County Animal Control fund raiser yard sale 5/3/08 in Bolivar TN. All of a sudden I had a thought ... next year I'll start preparing earlier so that I can raise plants from seeds, plus dig Iris and Lilies for the Yard Sale.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Boomer is better and much has happened here the last two days but telling about all that will have to wait until later today. - Judy

Please consider....
Most charity organizations receive an over abundance of cotton goods, so much so that they sell it by the bale to recyclers. If you have t-shirts, towels or sheets which you are no longer using, please call your local animal rescue organization first to see if they need them. Thanks, Judy

Several years ago....
Boomer who is a Beagle mix, was on the back porch when I went out to feed and water the outside critters. BUT he was wobbling like he was addled. Sure that he had been hit by a car or one of the crazy deer he chases, I scooped him up and yelled for Bob to come see what was wrong. I couldn't examine him while holding him in my arms. Bob said his eyes were dilated and his best guess is he was either drunk or stoned, which put my emotions into turmoil.

I locked him in a crate and he was just fine the next morning……

Two days later he was lying out in the driveway in the pouring rain. He wouldn't come to me so I rushed inside and hollered for Bob to come quickly. While he was on the way, I went out in the rain and picked up Boomer and brought him onto the back porch. When Bob got there I started babbling about Boomer being addled by an accident, poison or whatever. Again Bob said he's either drunk or on drugs. Look at that goofy expression and those big eyes. I put him down; he ran back out in the rain and did a crazy dance standing on his back legs, looked like the world famous Austrialian Frilled Neck Lizard dance.

Two weeks later the Sheriff located and burned a pot field not 2 miles from the house. We refer to him as Boomer the "Pothead" and have offered his services to law enforcement, but they were afraid he would eat the evidence. lol lol

Friday - April 25, 2008 3:45 PM
Bob has gone to the big city to buy dog food. I've worked so much the last few days that my body is screaming at me!! lol lol Neither one of us thought I should make the trip.

Reading about Boomer in yesterday's entry reminded me of a happening several years ago. I'll go write it up and post it later today or tomorrow. I swear these critters keep us either laughing or crying, there never seems to be an inbetween, fortunately there is much more laughter than tears.- Judy

Thursday - April 24, 2008 11:00 PM
I forgot to tell you about Boomer, stray that came to stay, he's been limping now for 3 days therefore I'm placing his food and special treats in his den so he doesn't have to get up to get them. BUT Boomer squeals out if another dog even looks at him hard, he's a total wimp, therefore I don't really know if his injury is all that bad or not. Rule of thumb with Boomer is, give it a week and if he doesn't get better take him to the vet's ... he's not been to the vet's for anything other than his rabies shots and to be neutered in the 9 years that he's been here. He must be able to read my mind and knows when I'm near to snatching him up to take him in to see the vet. lol lol

Pictures of Melanie & more Iris
Melanie, rescued 13 months ago, has to be involved in everything that Bob is doing. So I told her to "sit" for Bob to take her picture. She loves her Big Daddy!! They are a perfect match and I feel so much more comfortable when he is working outside without me, now that she is with him. She runs the house and yard area every 10 minutes to make sure all is well. It's her job and she takes her work seriously.

Cherry Cookie woke us up at 4:00 AM barking ... she "had to go". Bob took her to an outside covered dog run and then came back to bed. Oops, he left her out there all by herself??? Mama Judy's chickie bully, all by herself?? Yes he did, but he was rubbing my back so I could go back to sleep, I'm not going to argue. All of a sudden he said, "Is that book up side down" to which I replied, "I don't know my eyes are closed" although I was wearing my reading glasses and I was holding the book as if reading. He started laughing and said, "Do you know how weird that is". I told him, "It's part of raising Bullies ... snuggle in and let's go back to sleep". lol lol

My neighbors are irritating the devil out of me ...and they are totally unaware of the fact

I went through a series of telephone calls from people in the same area code telling me that one of my neighbors had listed me as the "person to contact" and they needed to contact them. Since I have 25 years experience in Credit & Collections management, it didn't take me long to figure out I was getting calls from a collection agency trying to collect from the neighbor. BUT to make them stop calling here, it took me using really rude language telling the company calling that I didn't have anything to do with the neighbor nor would I have anything to do with them and if they called again I would sue them. Now it has started all over again with another company. I flat out told them not to call me again about my neighbor or I was going to sue them. I will not tolerate my life being interrupted because my neighbor has an account turned over to "collections". I don't know if it is a disputed account or one which is actually owed which they are unable or unwilling to pay. This is not my problem and I don't intend to have my life disturbed by their situation.

I sleep lightly due to the puppies, I'm sensitive to sounds and smell. About 2 AM I woke up to the smell of smoke, heart racing, I jumpted out of bed and raced downstairs ... it took me several minutes of checking out our environment to conclude the neighbor about a half mile down the road had probably been burning trash earlier and since it got wet during this afternoon's light rain shower, it had probably just now dried out enough to rekindle ... not a threat to us since they burn in a metal trash can with a grate over the top.

OK guys all I need is another "big pig" on the back porch. lol lol We moved to the country to get away from shots being fired in the middle of the night and weird neighbors, but folks and their problems have started to crowd in on us up here in the country. Isn't that the way life is! - Judy (Note added two days later - Judy, Shut Up and go back to sleep!!) lol lol

Tuesday - April 22, 2008 6:00 PM
Goodness, we've been working hard all day. Beside completing our morning chores, we planted about 110 Lily Bulbs. I also trimmed up and fertilized 4 big pots of Begonias, which were hit hard by the freeze, hopefully they will put out new growth from the roots. I then totally repotted an Angelwing Begonia which had been struggling to survive. The cats had made a bed in my big rectangular pot of Wandering Jew, so I added more soil and fertilizer and am hopeful that it will recover. After all that I had to sit down to rest.

We are about to start the evening chores, feeding and walking "our gang" and by the time we are finished it will be all that we can do to take a shower and crawl into bed. I don't think we are suppose to work this hard during our retirement years, but some of us just can't seem to sit down, always got to be accomplishing something ... maybe Bob needs to slip tranquilizers into my morning coffee. I told you, I'd be back to my old whirling dervish self in no time. lol lol - Judy

Tuesday - April 22, 2008 2:50 AM
Harmony woke me up barking at 12:30 AM, after which Bob started jumping in his sleep and then snoring in my ear ... or maybe that was Jeb snoring so loud I could hear him upstairs. lol lol I laid in bed reading but decided since I was awake I might as well do something productive, therefore I'm catching you all up-to-date on doing here.

Yesterday was one busy, productive day. I planted 10 pots of hot peppers, all a different variety, complete with hand written markers ... the seeds were old therefore the germination rate wouldn't be good so I planted the full packet. lol lol I surely hope not all of those seeds germinate. Next I started out planting Hardy Hibiscus some of which are suppose to be dinner plate size, again the seeds were old therefore I followed the same routine, but these were planted in the flower beds which I first had to clear of Spring weeds before I could plant. We used Roundup last Summer before we built the beds, then used a seed killer, but the strong winds of Winter evidently brought in bindweed seeds ... we didn't have bindweed prior to this Spring. I so hate bindweed. It has to be hand pulled and in a hurry before it sets seeds or we'll have double the problem next Spring. I cleaned out three beds and sowed seeds in about 9 places before exhaustion over took me. The greatest problem to all of this was making a decision on what to plant and where. My objective being to have all the plants to be perennial (coming back year after year) so I don't have to replant each Spring or over-winter Angel's Trumpets.

I hope you all are fast asleep and having sweet dreams. - Judy

Big Old Floppy Iris - My favorites!!!

Dwarf Pink - so small, so beautiful it needs to be in a pot but I don't know if it will survive the winter in a pot.

As Grandmother use to say, "I'm feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning". I think the expression is best left to describe an animal such as a cat, but I feel like a perky kitten this morning so it was the right one for today.

We took care of the critters, then drank coffee on the side porch. The woodpeckers and the cardinals were very surprised to see us sitting there as they flew in to help themselves to the bowl of cat kibble we keep by the table. It was fun watching a woodpecker dodge to the tree like it was the intended landing location. The cardinals waited in a nearby tree for only a moment before flying off to find food elsewhere. At dawn and dusk the deer travel through the woods around us nibbling on new growth and they are fun to watch as long as they don't want a rose leaf and lily salad. lol lol

Just think if we didn't have all these critters we could spend all our time sitting on the porch watching wild critters.

Sugar & Jazzman's 01/01/07 Litter
Litter mate to Cherry Cookie and older sister of Li'l Cookie

Hi Judy and Bob! Now that you are puppy free and have a little bit of extra time on your hands, I thought I would update you on Opal. She had her annual check up last week and received a clean bill of health. She weighed in at a chunky 51 lbs- it is hard to believe she was only 10 lbs. when I got her!

She is absolutely beautiful and full of personality (like most bullies)! She is so sweet and loves being the center of attention. I definitely credit you both with starting her out on the right path and teaching her some manners.

I keep up with your web site daily- I don't see how you keep the schedule you do. I get exhausted just reading about all of your activities! I am attaching a couple of photos of my spoiled little girl- you will see that she looks just like her daddy! Wishing you both health and happiness ...and the extra sleep it sounds like you desperately need! Thanks for all you do- Jennifer and Opal

Here are pictures of Cherry Cookie, taken today

I always thought people who subscribe to conspiracy theories were over the edge or had too much time on their hands. Well after this morning I'm convinced there is a conspiracy against me getting any sleep. Around 4:40 AM I woke up, it was if I had jerked in my sleep, but as I laid there I realized it wasn't me and Bob had gone downstairs in the middle of the night to sleep because my tossing was keeping him awake. Then there were 4 evenly spaced "forces" like those that would be produced by great puffs of wind, except there was no wind. Strange feeling. Since I was awake I went to the bathroom to get a drink of water and saw Bob pass in front of the staircase. He came upstairs when he saw I was awake and I asked him why he was awake. He replied, the birds started flapping around in their cages. I had to laugh at the image of the poor birds fast asleep being knocked off their perch by the "force" of an earthquake centered some 388 miles away. Just call me sleepless in Pocahontas. - Judy
(I hope you enjoyed this bit of silliness.)

A misstep due to my gimpy leg yesterday is causing me all sorts of problems today. I couldn't sleep last night because my legs were aching so bad, then this afternoon a pinched nerve in my hip kicked in. Oh well this too shall pass, but in the meantime it isn't pleasant. It's easy to become depressed when there is prolonged pain, but I have become a master at "catching hold of my baggy butted pants and hauling myself on up the ladder of life". lol lol - Judy

Wednesday - April 16, 2008 9:00 PM
Exhale, exhale!!! Do you ever sit down and just exhale because you've done so much? Well that is exactly what I did as I sat down to make this journal entry. I expended too much energy today and got grouchy. Just a minute ago Bob asked if it wasn't time for me to start thinking about going to bed. That's his polite way of saying he couldn't take too much more of my bossy self. lol lol

We still have Harmony and she was supposed to have been picked up this week but I haven't heard anything back from the people although they made the deposit. At any rate she is getting very spoiled and I've started her house training. Tonight she had her normal soaked food, a cup full of dry left out for her to crunch on later and my left over custard pie, couple of small bites. She loved it and tried giving me a pitiful look so she could have more, then she started trying to talk like her mother does, but I didn't want to upset her digestive system so she didn't get any more. Jeb looked at and sniffed the tiny piece I gave him, turned his nose up, then he looked at her like, "she'll eat anything".

The tomato, peppers and Angel Trumpets got hit hard by the freeze. The Angel Trumpets might come back from the roots, but the others will have to be replaced. Several house plants I had on the porches are history but ....

I hope you are having a good night and that your tomorrow will be wonderful. - Judy

Tuesday - April 15, 2008 7:00 AM
It looks as if most of the plants will be OK, it is now 32F but I don't think it will be that low long enough to do much damage. I only sleep a couple of hours last night worrying about the plants. I decided most of them would just have to take their chances since I could not convince myself to exert the energy needed to properly protect them, which would have meant bringing them all back into the house.

Now I'm going to go take a nap. - Judy

More Li'l Cookie pictures. Mama Judy has been remiss in cleaning her wrinkles.

Monday - April 14, 2008 8:30 PM
We're suppose to have a freeze tonight so we're busy trying to protect the plants, what a big job!!! I'm sure the freeze will destroy the tiny peaches on our 6 trees like it did last year and freeze the Iris buds. It is disappointing to us .... but I really feel sorry for the farmers. - Judy

Sunday - April 13, 2008 8:30 AM
I'm in a snit this morning ... what has the world come to when you can't even trust a bowl of cereal not to make you deathly ill. Malt-O-Meal has recalled their puffed rice and puffed wheat cereals due to salmonella. Bob usually eats their puffed rice cereal but just hasn't the last few weeks, Thank The Good Lord.

Maybe I've been reading too much news the past few weeks, either that or things have really gotten out of control. Seems like everyone needs to get a grip. Doom and gloom projections in many areas of our daily life are just too much for the normal mind to comprehend. Bottom Line I think the USA should start buying "Made in America no imported material used" and leave the cheap imports or goods containing imported material sitting on the shelf. My heart ached over the dog foods using imported tainted ingredients that caused many dogs to die. Otherwise many imported products don't last long, clog up our landfills, make us sick and support governments of which most of us don't approve. USA companies are competing with overseas companies by reducing overhead/expenses and in the process are failing in quality control.

OK, I'm through now. - Judy

Saturday - April 12, 2008 10:30 PM
Today was a conserve energy day, therefore I did very little except read a book curled up in a chair and get caught up on the news via internet.

In a couple of days, I'll pop out of this and be a whirling dervish once again. Don't forget to hug those whom you love today. - Judy

Friday - April 11, 2008 8:00 PM
I almost slept until Noon and probably would have if I hadn't gotten hot. I was under 3 layers of cover and when the temperature hit 74F outside it warmed up the bedroom quickly since the window by the bed was open.

I didn't do anything but pittle in the kitchen, take care of the critters, plus washed and dried sheets. I thought Bob might "have a fit" because I was doing so much but I explained that I was taking lots of breaks. We've just finished the chores for the night and are about to watch the news, then go to bed early. Not a very exciting day which is GOOD!!! - Judy

Thursday - April 10, 2008 10:00 PM
I stayed in bed until after Noon. Bob had to go get refills on his prescriptions and wanted me to go with him ... so I did. When I have fever I don't want anything to eat but we decided a stop at the Chinese Buffet might be in order since I could try little bites of everything and those that tickled my taste buds could be expanded upon. Trust me they made money on me ... nothing tasted good.

Back home I crawled into bed for a couple of hours then got up to feed part of the critters. I noticed I have two more Iris in bloom, plus the dogwoods and Azalea were strutting their stuff. We took pictures but not many were good, I think it was the lighting or maybe the setting on the camera.

Li'l Cookie had to get in on the action, we lost Jeb for a few minutes because our attention was diverted to the cameras and then Melanie got into the mix. That heifer Li'l Cookie has created a new attention game, "look at my coke bottle" plus get in front of Mama Judy and stop. I gently "knee" her butt which starts her back in motion but I'm afraid she's going to make me fall.

I'm off to bed and I hope I can sleep until noon. - Judy

HI Judy,

We wanted to pass along these pics of Sampson teaching Sully the ropes! Kendal and Sampson have this thing going of course where Sampson patiently awaits the dropping of the food. Now as you can see Sully is learning very well.

We are so pleased with Sully we just LOVE him. He is such a lap dog and I must say very smart when it comes to his potty training. Or maybe I've learned more the second time around?

:) Give sloppy kisses to all the bullies for us.

We promise to send more pics soon.

I love getting feedback from the people who get my babies!!! Sampson is from Eve's 2006 litter and Sully (Drummer Man) is from her 1/26/08 litter. - Judy

Last night I was exhausted, so Bob got out of the bed quietly, early this morning and I continued to sleep. (lol lol) 14 hours in total and I needed every one of them. After so many weeks of having to "jump and run" 24x7 to take care of the puppies and having had a problem with my asthma, he's gotten very serious about me getting as much rest as my body needs. He is so sweet!

Little Harmony is lonely, she cried several times yesterday which caused Bob and I to stop what we were doing and hold her for a few minutes. We have so much to do that we can't give her all the attention she needs and we feel really bad about it. Here is a picture of her laying on her "fat cat" the way she laid on her siblings. We've never had a pup to be so sad about her siblings being taken away, but that could be because normally they all leave at one time. Harmony was reserved but the man got laid off from work so they didn't feel they should go ahead and get her ... poor baby.

Oh Mercy, I was in bed reading when I realized that I hadn't uploaded the picture of my first Iris bloom of the year. She's an early, pretty, little thing, which first bloomed 4 or 5 days ago, but I was too busy to take a picture. When this second bloom unfolded I stop, went inside and got the camera.

We'll have blooms 4-5 times bigger than this one a little later but she makes up for being small by producing several blooms on one stalk.

First Iris Bloom of 2008

PS I have to tell you this, poor Harmony has cried several times since we've been home and really acts sad. She's very sensitive and misses her sister Rhythm .... bless her little heart. When dashing through the house doing chores, I stopped to love on her for a minute and Bob spent quality time with her late this afternoon, but we're not her "sissy". Just now I could hear her crying and Jeb barking for me to come comfort her. Sorry little girl, I'm exhausted.

Whew!! We got up early, early to walk and feed "our gang" before making a trip to Memphis. We met Silvia & Terry at the airport, Silvia had been out-of-town so I thought it would be nice for her to be greeted by Rhythm on her arrival home. Afterward, we shopped for supplies and then went to the Half Shell Restaurant for lunch. Mine consisted of a dozen raw oysters, nothing else. lol lol I had been wanting oysters for weeks and I must say I was not disappointed they were delicious. We seldom go out to eat because we hate to pay good money for something that doesn't taste half as good as what we prepare at home, but we've been making it a point to eat out more often lately because we were in danger of becoming hermits. The only rules are non-smoking environment and food that we don't cook at home.

I'm off to edit the pictures and I'll be back in a few minutes to post them. - Judy

Filling Station (sandwich shop) in Corinth, Mississippi
Great Carolina BBQ, very different from Memphis BBQ

Monday - April 7, 2008 8:30 PM
Today was a busy day ... we went to Corinth for potting soil and stopped at a neat sandwich shop, aptly named the Filling Station, 501 Wick St, Corinth, MS 38834 telephone (662) 287-3364 because it is in an old corner gas filling station building. You can eat in or outside, tables and chairs are under the "carport". Tastefully decorated in early attic, Elvis statue, records and posters, put together in a style which is very becoming. I took pictures which I hope you will enjoy. I plan on posting them tomorrow, I'm too tired tonight.

May your tomorrow be full of sunshine - Judy

Later this afternoon the "strays that came to stay" could be overheard plotting to get a truck load of Bil-Jac Liver Treats. Boomer came up with the idea of entering Jeb in the "Worlds Ugliest Dog Contest". Dumpy agreed, said Jeb was just right to win, bow legs, his tongue hangs out of his mouth, he snorts, passes gas, burps, got a smashed face that's all wrinkly, boy is he ugly!!!

Jeb is one of ours, he was injured at his new home, his condition was misdiagnosed and three vets recommended "putting him down". When we got him back home, he was flat on his stomach pulling himself around with his front feet, straining so hard that he leaked a trail of urine. Go here for more details and videos of the poor baby learning to walk again.

Sunday - April 6, 2008 12:30 PM
You have to understand that Jeb is such a lover, he'll pick up a twig or rock and take it to people who visit, he especially likes females and the love of his life is Fluffy, rubbing his face into her long white hair is his consuming desire. So why did this loveable chunk of lead snap and growl ... Li'l Cookie was butting him with her chest the way she does my legs when we're outside and I'm paying more attention to my plants than I am her, but she was hitting him full force, she knows better than to do that to Mama Judy. Each time she butted, he got mad and Li'l Cookie thought it was the best game ever. She was totally enjoying herself until I called Jeb to me and told her in no uncertain terms to "back off", one good low voice "No" was all it took. She came to me as if to say, "I was only having fun". Well she's a silly puppy girl and he's a middle aged male bully who had serious work to do ... "covering up the scent of the other male dogs", sniff, sniff, dribble, dribble. lol lol

We went to Jackson, TN yesterday to meet the people who got Ramblin Man (Capone) and by the time we got back home and got the chores completed we were extremely tired, but the bullies all wanted some loving, the cats wanted someone to rub on and the strays that came to stay wanted "something special to eat". I gave the dogs boiled egg treats, promising more interaction time today and I allowed the cats 10 minutes of leg rubbing time. I almost went to sleep sitting in the chair on the porch with them, by this time it was getting dark. Fortunately they don't get in my lap.

I've much to do today and I've been lazy this morning. I hope you are having a peaceful Sunday afternoon. - Judy

Although there is a rain cloud stuck overhead, it appears the line of thunder storms are going Southeast of us. Nasty little rain cloud just had to have it's way. lol lol - Judy

Friday - April 4, 2008 7:00 PM
Lord Have Mercy, it has rained all day except for a short break around 3 PM and there is a line of storms coming up from Louisiana headed straight for us. The same storms that spit out a tornado in Vicksburg, Mississippi. If we are really lucky the storm front will pass by a little East of us but at present it doesn't appear that will be the case. Because of the critters we have become "weather watchers" and Bob can just about predict which fronts will come lashing through here. He said this storm front has his attention and he'll be watching via radar all night.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. - Judy

Friday - April 4, 2008 1:50 PM
And about that time, thunder storms hit and it has been raining ever since, but this weird thing is happening.. it's raining and there are hundreds of tiny birds chipping all at the same time. Now does that make sense to anyone, if so please send me an email of explanation. We do live in the forest so there are many trees and fallen leaves litter the ground however I can't see the birds and the leaf litter is not moving which would be an indication that they had taken refuge there. - Judy

Peach Blossoms, daffodils, and puppy kisses ... that is my next entry. I'm off to take pictures.

Friday - April 4, 2008 5:00 AM
A long line of thunder storms are just starting to pass through our area. The very first rumble woke me up.

Excerpts from an email I sent to a friend last night....
Sweet Tater Pie and rain ... yesterday morning it was sprinkling rain when I let she and Melanie, rescued German Shepherd, out together to potty. They both came to a halt at the edge of the porch ... I had to tell them 3 times in a low loud voice "Potty" before they went out in the yard to take care of their "business". Sweet Tater has a "foot thing" It takes 4 of us to trim her nails and she hates to get her feet wet or dirty. Melanie stomped out into the soggy, muddy walk but Sweet Tater all of a sudden remembered she could go around to the side porch, out the little wooden walkway and be in grass, no mud for this gal. lol lol

Li'l Cookie is now bigger, both in height and girth, than her grandmamma Smart Cookie, sister Cherry Cookie and mother Sugar Cookie, but they don't eat all the time like she does!!! She demands to be fed more than the others. Normally she eats 2 big bowls of soaked fool (5 cups each) plus one or two portions (2 cups each) of dry food per day and a taste of anything I'm eating. lol lol I thought for sure she was going to be a Mini, fooled me!

We firmly believe "Life is to be enjoyed" and we try our best to look on the bright side and roll with the punches. - Judy

Eve's Puppies & Li'l Cookie

Li'l Cookie showing them how to eat spaghetti!! Video Made 4/03/08

Thursday - April 3, 2008 3:30 PM
I'm having so much fun!! I'm fond of Angle Hair Pasta and had taught Li'l Cookie how to eat it months ago. Today as I was about to put the leftovers up, I decided to see if she remembered and gave her a little to eat. Then I decided she should teach the puppies how to eat it, we showed them a couple of times but then she kept gobbling down what I was trying to feed them. lol lol I got Bob to take a video and if it's any good we'll post it later tonight.

Next we ate baby carrots. Well Sweetie Pie (a.k.s Sweet Tater Pie) and I ate carrots, Melanie spit hers out and gave me a look that said I tricked her. The other bullies wouldn't have much to do with them, a couple picked them up and threw them into the air like a toy but the puppies thought they were a great thing to chew into tiny pieces. Sweetie figured if the other bullies didn't want to eat them, she sure did. I swear that bullie will eat any and everything, she waited until another bully stopped paying attention to their carrot, then she snatched it and ran to her crate to eat it. lol lol

Thursday - April 3, 2008 2:50 AM
Sweet Tater Pie (a.k.a Sweetie Pie) and I are really getting tired of these violent thunder storms. She wants to come sleep with me because she doesn't want to be the only one awake downstairs and I'm about ready to let her. BUT most of all we're about to get ticked at the critters and Bob who have the ability to sleep through all this noise. lol lol She enjoys the "I'm alone with Mama Judy time", and keeps saying "let's snuggle up"!!!.

Wednesday - April 2, 2008 8:30 PM
Gracious, if you are going to feed Eve's puppies little chunks of boiled egg, I suggest you lay it in the palm of your hand instead of holding it by your finger tips!! It might not be so bad if there is just one puppy, but with three there was a scrambling free-for- all over the little pieces of eggs and those little puppy teeth are sharp. lol lol

I'm off to bed now - Judy

Honkytonk Man going home to Vermont

Wednesday - April 2, 2008 8:00 AM
I'm so tired I couldn't figure out what day it was much less the date, now isn't that pitiful, everyone knows yesterday was April Fool's Day. Jon called at 4 AM and we drove to Jackson, TN to meet him and his friend, Josh. I took both Harmony and Honkytonk Man for him to choose from, for some reason I just had it in my head that I wanted him to have Honkytonk and sure enough Honky is the one he wanted. They have one long drive back to Vermont and I surely hope all goes well. They are taking turns driving so it shouldn't be too bad. I'll be back in a little while to post pictures of Jon, Josh and Hontytonk Man. - Judy

Tuesday - April 1, 2008 11:00 AM
I didn't wake up until 10 AM. Bob eased out of bed to take care of the puppies and walk the big dogs this morning, he knew I was awake most of the night. Not long after I got up I got a call from a man who was about to head out the door to come get Harmony, a 20 hour drive, so I told him to call me when he got close and I would meet him, it didn't matter what time. lol lol This could turn into one of those Lucy Adventures, but I feel really comfortable with the situation after exchanging emails and talking on the telephone. Fortunately, the Good Lord gave the hairs on the back of my neck a double dose of sensitivity.

I hope your week has gotten a good start and you are feeling empowered. - Judy

Tuesday - April 1, 2008 3:15 AM
Finally, the storms have passed through our area, maybe Sweet Tater Pie and I can get some sleep.

Tuesday - April 1, 2008 1:45 AM
Sweetie Pie and I are awake, we can't sleep through violent storms but Bob and all the other critters are snoring .... go figure. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
