Updated Pics of Our "Babies" Received April 2004 Being Updated As Emails Arrive!!! Friday - 4/30/04 - 6:30 AM Friday - 4/30/04 - 6:30 AM
Turkey Vultures (Buzzards) - Sunday on the way back from Gabby's c-section, I noticed
several groups of Turkey Vultures (Buzzards), probably 30 total on the ground about 25
feet or so from the road. Prior I had only seen them on the ground when there was "road
kill". Since they roost in trees, I remember thinking maybe they knew something we didn't,
in regards to the horrible storms we had been having, perhaps another storm was coming.
I have been so busy I hadn't given it more thought, but it
dawned upon me today that they were feasting on critters who live in the ground that had
drowned and come to the surface due to the severe flooding in low lying areas.
Since their size is between a large chicken and a small turkey, the very first time I saw one, I thought "Boy, that's some ugly chicken" (lol lol). It's against Federal Wildlife regulations to "keep" one but I've 'heard tell' there's a man not far from here who has a crippled one as a pet and says it reminds him of his first wife!! (lol lol) Two of Gabby's puppies are very small and are having to be monitored closely to insure they get enough nourishment. The other pups push them off their nipple, the nipples are too big for such small puppies, they have to eat more frequently than the others, etc. so they require 24 X 7 attention. Therefore, Bob being the primany caregiver for new litters, has gotten very little sleep this week. ![]()
![]() Information Edited 8/13/05 I shake my head and laugh every time I look at this picture. She looks such a "Bully" in this picture!!! lol lol (puppy food, not poop)
Thursday - 4/29/04 - 6:30 AM
I'm never ever going to put dry, (powdered) low fat milk on anything I give "our gang" again!!! Gabby, Mo
and all 5 big puppies got diarrhea...it's passed out of their system and all are
doing well, but we were definitely in a panic for a few days. I put the "strays" in a crate last night because they had been barking too much after the sun went down and then John Wayne pawed at the back door every time Bob went into
the kitchen. At 3 AM, Mr Cat was at the bedroom window
making a fuss in a loud voice. I don't know what was going on out in the woods!!!
Speaking of dogs and cats, Big John gets along fine with everything, but a few of the Bullies
don't like him. We think it is because he is so big that he intimidates them. Kate in particular
is offended by him being here, but she'll adjust.I have pictures to post later, when I have a minute to edit and upload them. Take care and remember, if life gets to be too much, do like Jelly ... throw back your head and howl. Judy We decided to name Mo's male puppy Dizzy Gillespie, The Jazz Man. Almost the minute his picture was posted I got an email from a person on our Waiting Listing telling me they were interested. We won't be establishing a price for a week or so, we need to see how he's going to shape up. Wednesday - 4/28/04 - 5:30 AM
I couldn't resist taking these pictures of Smart Cookie's babies, although mushy Purina
Puppy Chow was everywhere .... not poop. I had fed all 5 puppies, then let Happy in the
pool for them to nurse and when she was finished, it was play time!!! I found an honest mechanic!!! On my way to the Nissan dealership to have the "check engine light" diagnosed, I pulled into a repair shop that I had stopped at once before. Long story short, they checked the van, cleared the code and told me it was an exhaust valve indicator. They suspected there was just a bit of trash in the fuel which caused it to come on but since the van was running just fine, that there was no need to pull the valve for cleaning, however if the light came back on it would have to be done.
Off I went. Ooops I forgot to pay them the $25 they initially
told me they charged for the service, so I turned around and went back, they laughed
because they hadn't thought to charge me!! Needless to say we had started
talking about "English Bulldogs" and forgot about money. Poor Mo's hormones are "off kilter" so she's hot, she's antsy, she's everything. This is normally a 3rd day after the c-section phase, she's just going through it a tad early. I've been up trying to get her satisfied without positive results ...taking her out to potty in the dark, giving her milk, trying to get her to eat, turned on the ceiling fan, etc., etc. For now, she's just going to have to deal with it until I get a little more sleep.
All the mothers and "babies" are doing great the only problem we're having is Happy's two
girls have a loose stool, I believe it's a reaction to the dried milk
I sprinkled on their mushy food yesterday morning. If they have a loose stool this morning
it's off to the vet.May your day be filled with warm, happy feelings, the kind you get when you look at these pictures of the "babies". To see more click here We're alive and doing well!!! I've taken lots of pictures, but don't have time this morning to edit them for uploading to the website. The van's "check engine" light came on and after checking all fluids etc, we determined it had to be taken to the Nissan dealership immediately, so that's my priority item for today. The one thing I'm going to do this morning, is put a smile on my face and keep it there. Have a wonderful day!!! - Judy English Bully Emergency C-Section, Mo who we thought was going through a "false pregnancy" had one little baby boy this morning!!! We had an ultrasound done at 35 days, no puppies. She wasn't big so we concluded she was having a "false pregnancy" when her breast tissue started filling out. Well, as luck would have it, Bob was bathing her Saturday and she had milk, again we thought "false pregnancy" but this morning I told him I thought Miss False Pregnancy was going into labor, sure enough we just made it to the vet's on time. It was her 66th day from her last breeding, which is highly unusual. It's a beautiful baby boy, sired by Jazzman!!!
Got to run, it is absolutely crazy here. - Judy Monday - 4/26/04 - 6:00 AM All is well here. We're all just plain exhausted so more later, meanwhile pictures of Gabby's "babies taken late yesterday. - Judy
Sunday - 4/25/04 - 2:30 PM We just got back from the vet's, Gabby had 7 puppies, 5 males and 2 females!!!! I was guessing that she would have 5 puppies so the extra 2 were a good surprise!!! Starting late yesterday afternoon, she was a little too lazy, so Bob stayed up with her all night, coming to bed at 5 AM. After a couple of hours sleep he was back up doing chores. We took her temperature and it was dropping.
After finishing chores we took her temp again, it was 99.8 and she
was loosing her "plug". I called Dr Pulse who was on weekend duty and he met us at the clinic. She
has sinus congestion so he tried to insert a breathing tube, but her gag reflexes were too strong. Finally
we opted to take the risk of going ahead without the tube. She did just fine. Needless to say Gabby, Bob and I are exhausted, but I'm betting Bob will take and post pictures after he gets a couple of hours sleep!!! Until then, more pictures of Jelly!!!!! - Judy
John Wayne slept in the BIG horse feeder I use to mix and hold my potting soil. Needless to say damp potting soil is all over the back porch, he had to scratch it around so it was just right. Saturday - 4/24/04 - 6:30 AM Gabby had a big snack at 3:30 AM then pranced and danced for Bob, so it's doubtful she will go into labor today. If you want to feed wild birds in your backyard, might I suggest you feed them Purina Puppy Chow. We have an enormous collection of wild birds who feed on uneaten dry or softened Puppy Chow that I put around a stump for them by our back door.
We are so very tired because we have gotten very little sleep the past two nights. Last night
we had violent thunderstorms with lightening striking ground very near. The night before the dogs kept
waking us up barking but we couldn't figure out why.
In the morning, Fluffy came to me wanting to be picked up, she seldom ever does this so I
knew there had to be a problem. I stepped outside to look around and there was John
Wayne peaking around the corner of the house. I put a lead on him and put him back in
his pen, that lasted all of 5 minutes. WOW!!! He dug a small hole under the 10' x 10'
custom made heavy gage chainlink pen, got his nose under the bottom support bar and proceeded
to raise the side of the pen as he went under. It then dropped neatly back in place.
Unbelievable!!He let me see him but not catch him. He found himself a spot under the porch at the front of the house and went to sleep.
Afraid I had taught him the bad habit of not coming to me, I
got a can of dog food and went to where he could see us then called the "strays" to come
take their turns eating a spoonful ... he came. I gave him a couple of bites and then let
him be. Later when Bob and I were working on the front porch, he came out and wanted to
get past the gate I have barring the way, to be with us. I think he must have been
someone's pet instead of a "working" dog. He sat for the food and will shake hands, which
I don't think are any dogs natural characteristics.
Later yesterday afternoon, he went missing and we could hear a dog barking in the distance.
I called and called, but he didn't respond. I told Bob, we just couldn't worry about him,
he should have had enough sense to hang around. About 15 minutes later, Fluffy appeared with
her white coat stained red from mud and I told Bob I bet anything she took him off and
left him, not only did she want "her" side porch back but she had decided he wouldn't take bossin'.
A few minutes later he was drinking water out of the Goldfish Pond, then lumbered up to the porch
to lay by Fluffy, the red mud clinging to their fur matched!!!
I've begun to fear he might have been picked-up or stolen, then sold to the people from whom I bought him.
When I started asking about his origins the lady was vague but did say they had bought a pair of them at a place about 70 miles from
here, Parsons, TN. He does not know the name she told me was his, etc. I sure would hate for his rightful
owners to be looking for him. To view his pictures please see my 4/14 entry.I hope you have enjoyed Jelly Bean's pictures, there are more to come in the next few days!!! - Judy PS Bob keeps telling me how much he likes his birds!!! I'm so pleased I got them for him. Gabby ate her boiled eggs for breakfast so she won't go into labor for several hours at least, but she has milk and is very sluggish, so her time is drawing near. It has rained here for the past 3 days so we've put in a lot of effort for minimum results, however it appears the sun is about to come out, which will surely be welcome. Even if it turns off hot, we'll still sink in mud while out walking "our gang" for a few days, it's just that wet here. I let John Wayne out of his pen yesterday without a lead, he pranced off to potty, then kept going!!! When he got to the main road about half a mile away, he became frightened of a fast moving car and was headed back toward the house, when Bob caught up with him. This would be so much easier if I knew his real name to call to get his attention. We'll just have to keep working with him. The Dingo hasn't been around for weeks, I hope nothing has happened to him. Dumpy so far is leaving the chickens alone, so maybe I won the chicken war. There is suppose to be a motion detector, which activates a spray of water and that is exactly what I need. Dumpy & Boomer wouldn't get near them then. I'm off to finish chores. Have a wonderful weekend!!! Judy Bob won't be here the month of May, he's "on call" for a special project and they have notified him that his services will be needed. Dang, when life gives you lemons you best get to making lemonade, before they rot and the whole place starts to stinking. (lol lol) Thursday - 4/22/04 - 10:30 AM If your Bully has a skin rash or infection, before you do anything else I recommend that you bath him/her using Malaseb Shampoo (TM)Miconazole Nitrate 2%, Chlorhexidine Gluconate 2% which prevents/cures bacterial and fungal infections. Doing this first could save you MEGA $$$. You can obtain this product from your vet, call and ask if you can just stop by to get some without having to take your Bully in for an office visit. You can also order it online from Valley Vet using this link (copy and paste). Thursday - 4/22/04 - 5:30 AM Miss Gabby Goo ate her breakfast this morning, hand-fed by Bob of course, so she shouldn't be going into labor today. Oh Mercy!!! When I bought the Cockatiels, I asked for all males because we weren't interested in breeding them and it's the males who strut, talk and sing. When we went to picked them up, they were already in a cage waiting for us and we were told they were all females, except for one male. Since we had driven a long way, they were beautiful and only cost $10 each, we decided it didn't matter. Well, we saw what was suppose to be "the male" being bred yesterday. (lol) I told Bob, we better get some nesting boxes built cause we were going to have at least one clutch of eggs. Later, all the bird started having a fit so I rush downstairs to find Mr. Cat, looking in the window lusting for an after dinner Cockatiel. (lol lol) I then checked on the small Goldfish pond on the porch to find several floaters, all of which had been mangled. The only possible sources of destruction were the cats or two shrimp I intentionally got with the last bag of tiny feeder goldfish. It took some doing but the Shrimp are no longer with us, boy can those things move fast. Now if there are any more mangled fish, it's the cats who are doing it. I worked really hard yesterday answering emails, I only have 58 left, down from 137. My friend Tracey Fenney is trying to help me find a program which will automatically post incoming emails and my response to them, in hopes that you all will find them interesting and informative. I'm looking for something similar to the webpage above that I created yesterday. Got to run take care of "babies". Here's hoping today isn't as hectic as yesterday!! - Judy ![]() Random Shots Of Happy & Smart Cookie's Pups Click Here!!! Miss Gabby ate part of her breakfast this morning so she won't be going into labor today. She reminds me of some women I've known who played the pregnancy role to the hilt since she's now demanding to be hand-fed, by Bob!!! He fed her about half of her can of Pedigree Puppy Food then left the remainder in the bowl for her to finish, wrong, she just looked down at the food then up at him, 'all pitiful like' you will have to help me. lol lol lol Good Morning!!!! We 'worked like dogs' yesterday and got a lot accomplished. My main task was moving the remainder of the plants out to the porches. You can't imagine how many plants I had in this house. Here are a few pictures but only about a third of the plants are shown. ![]()
![]() Now I'm trying to figure out how to move the birds to the porches, but ensure they don't get eaten by a cat, raccoon or other such critter. I had visions of John Wayne laying on the porch at night thereby preventing critters from getting the birds, but not only is he fond of 'hiking his leg', yesterday his tail wagging severely damaged a couple of plants. Now I have to figure out how to get the plants up off the porch floor and out of tail wagging and 'leg hiking' range. lol lol lol I'm off to take care of "babies" - Judy Gabby ate her breakfast so she won't being going into labor this morning. The puppies are getting big and the mothers won't stay with them long because they are very aggressive eaters, therefore biting hard. I've started supplemental feedings of Purina Puppy Chow soaked in water until puffy and New Born Milk Replacer added to make a thick gruel. They are gobbling it down, more like pigs than puppies!!! They get the food all over themselves, so afterward they must at least have face, chest and front legs washed with a damp cloth. This plus eating mushy food makes them cold, so I have a box ready with t-shirts warmed in the clothes dryer and microwave heated Snuggle Safe disks. In a few days I'll have all of them eating from a glass pie pan and then from the food dish pool they will go straight to another pool for warm milk and cuddling with their mother. The pups have to be fed every 3 hours and they poop a lot between feeds, so most of my time is spent looking after them. Bob got the PuppyCam working for a little while, then the complete computer functioning stops and we have to do a "hard reboot", no error messages or anything which would help to identify the problem. He has many other things to do so I don't know when we will have the problem resolved. This is a completely new PuppyCam system, because we were having a similar problem with the old software and camera, therefore the next step is a different computer. I'm going to pot, pot up my plants that is.. 900 tiny plants, another fine mess I've gotten myself into, lol lol lol - Judy ![]() We're behind in our chores and extremely tired this morning. We had planned for visits from Jill on Friday and Mike & Risa on Saturday, but then we had additional unexpected company both days!!! I personally consider just "dropping in" to be rude and it's extremely inconvenient for us since we have a strict schedule in regard to feeding puppies and caring for "our gang" since potty breaks have to be on time!! BUT here in the country people think nothing of "droppin' in ta see ya". I thought this picture of Jelly playing with Bob's foot would start your day off with a smile!!! There is nothing wrong with her foot, she's just in the process of lifting it so she could pounce on Bob's leg!! Take Care - Judy Happy & Jazzman's Litter Click Here!! Smart Cookie & Mini-E's Litter Click Here!! Sunday - 4/18/04 - 8:00 AM Today is the very first possible day for Gabby to go into labor. We're holding our breath!! Both Smart Cookie & Happy have become disinterested in feeding their "babies", therefore we have started giving the puppies "puppy chow mush" as a supplement. We're going to try various techniques today to get the mother's nurturing nature back on course. Have a good day - Judy
Yesterday, Jill came to visit with Mac, the puppy she reserved from Smart Cookie & Mini-E's litter, and the rest of 'Our Gang'!
We have so many common interests and activities... and now bulldogs too!I don't normally let people come to visit with the Bullies, because it causes me too much work, but of late I've relented somewhat and even invited Jill. Today Mike & Risa, from Memphis are coming . Mike "lost" his Boxer recent after having spent much time, energy and money in getting him the best medical care possible, even taking him to Auburn University. When Mike told me his vet is Dr McGhee in Memphis, TN he won me over as a friend!!! Dr McGhee is wonderful and I have referred many people to him, saying whatever Dr. McGhee tells you, you can believe. I've got to go get chores done before they arrive, hope you are having a good weekend. The weather here is wonderful!!! - Judy PS I'm 95% sure that the snake is a Cotton Mouth, so Mr Cat and I will no longer capture snakes and I'll have to set my mind to figuring out how to eliminate his 6-12 siblings, who are out there somewhere!!! Mercy!!! The cockatiels have started to mimic the "babies" and have their distress call down pat. I can't get anything done for running to rescue a "baby" only to find them fast asleep. You can imagine, it is stressing the mothers so we're having a problem with them being unsettled. Bob's plans were to build an outside aviary, have now been moved to the priority list. Then there are the chickens, Dumpy and I are in battle over them...he wants to eat them. He sneaks up to the cage and I sneak to the grab the water hose and dose him with water before he can touch them. Boomer isn't too bright so he gets in the middle, but Fluffy stays far away from "Mama's Chickens". Jelly is doing just fine, Jeb is a pouty brat, Kate wants the activity to settle down so Bob will have time to love on her and so the list goes. As soon as I get the house kinda in order and some of the plants moved onto the porches so we can walk, I'm going to start bathing all "our gang", long about Saturday evening. Have a Wonderful Weekend!!!! - Judy P.S. The cat and I caught a baby snake and put it in a gallon jar, if anyone who lives in our area wants it ... of course for free, but it might be poisonous!! I haven't taken the time to ID it. I wonder if it is illegal to have a native snake as a pet??? Do I dare move the plants back out to the porches .... it is so much work and they need to be outside, but now I'm 'gun shy', afraid it's going to turn off cold again. At any rate, I've got more work to do than any 20 people can get done, so I best get up and going before the thought of it gets me "down". Have a wonderful day - Judy
Yesterday, I went to the "big city" to buy food for all
these critters, but mainly I was just getting out of Bob's way so he could do TAXES!!!
Afterwards, he gave me a printout to read and I can't argue with facts, I have to stop bringing in
critters, their food and medical bills are just too high. Also I'm making everyone who
comes to visit swear to me that their children will be in the car with them when they leave.
(lol lol)
Bob took pictures this morning while I was walking The Great Pyrenees (one day I'm going
to dress for pictures). As you can tell by looking at these, he's such a "big baby". I
have decided he should be named John, instead of Big Casper, because he has a swagger in his
walk which matches that of the late actor, John Wayne. We're having company on Friday, so I best get to figuring out what in the world I'm going to do with all these plants and critters, we can barely walk it's so crowded. I'm also going to try once again to get the PuppyCam to working. Take care, Judy Dog Gone!!!! It's snowing like crazy and 32 degrees!!! Good thing we worked like fools yesterday bringing inside the plants, chickens, birds and dogs, except Big Casper. I got him halfway in the back door before he laid down on the floor and refused to move, most likely he has previously punished for entering a house. Since this guy is as big as a pony and there was no way I could physically move him, I was greatly relieved when he took me up on my offer to go back outside. Included in yesterday's activities was a trip to the vet's to have Sugar bred to Jazzman. Hopefully we will have some Jazzie Sugar pups. We also met our neighbor Steve with his Bully that he got from us, Baby Ruth. For reasons I'll explain later, I wanted to get an x-ray of her hips, which turned out to be in great shape. Yesterday, I made the decision that I must restrict my computer activities for a couple of weeks. Presently I have 137 emails that require a response on my part. Between helping with the pups, potting plants, pulling weeds and being on the computer a good bit, my old neck injury, which now includes arthritis, is really causing me a problem which the anti- inflammatory drugs aren't able to control. Resting that part of my neck is the key, so ... I'll still make my daily entries here, via Bob the secretary, so please continue to "stop by". Got to run, our gang is fussing to go out. Judy Being human, I can justify any and all of my actions, but I doubt you'll buy this one.... Saturday, on the spur of the moment we decided to go to a Flea Market in Crump, TN just to do a little looking around. We had only been there once or twice several years ago and I still can't explain why the place even came to mind ... BUT there he was, for sale for $50. He liked me and I couldn't resist his big brown eyes. When I was 4 years old and went missing they found me asleep under my Grandparent's old farm house, with my head laying on Rover, their dog who looked a great deal like this sad-eyed 125 pound Great Pyrenees. Needless to say I couldn't bring him into the house overnight because he's a giant and shedding like crazy this time of the year, so we put him in an outside pen with an igloo dog house for now. I'm hopeful I will be able to turn him lose in a couple of days. We can't have any of the Bullies running loose because they stray and it would upset the neighbors, but since we have large predators in the area (Bob Tailed Cats, Coyotes and such) several neighbors have Great Pyrenees to take care of their farm animals therefore they feel comfortable with the breed. Meanwhile, I'm taking him for walks like we do the Bullies and he is way too cool. Poor big old baby, wonder where he's been. I'm guessing he's 4 years old, although the lady I bought him from said he was 2. She also said she bought a male and a female, but already had two males who were ganging up on this one, so she just absolutely had to place him. Then there were 2 pretty female cockatiels, just right to be Little Casper's girlfriends, oops there were another 6 for $10 each, breeder reducing her inventory..... so we now have 8 more cockatiels. I think I might have "over done" my silliness this time for sure although Bob is having a ball with all the birds. The last 6 were easy for the woman to put into the finch cage, but there is not enough room to reach in with a glove and pull them out without doing major damage to their feathers and maybe wings. (We ended up buying the cage from her.) So now we have to figure out how to get them to come out on their own so they can be put into other cages. lol lol lol Am I not 'one spoiled woman', I had a headache all night so I slept late and haven't gone downstairs yet. Bob just brought me up a cup of coffee, two southern fried pork chops, one over medium egg and toast!! Later, Judy Lol, lol, lol .... I'll tell you all about it later..... Judy
This is a photo of our friend's, Floyd T & Michelle, little Easter bunny Oreo.
He is a house rabbit that they rescued from the Humane Society 6 years ago.
He lives on their second floor, and has the run of the house. Isn't he beautiful!!
- 7:00 AM The last two days I've potted up 96 hanging baskets and in the middle of doing it, the weather forecast became 29 degrees for Wednesday night, meaning all will freeze and die!!!! Mercy!! I checked the forecast this morning and the outlook for Wed is much better with a low of 44, but Monday night the low is to be 36 which will kill most of the plants. I definitely have a challenge ahead of me since there are far too many of them to bring into the house. (Such a Lucy Thing!!! Such A Lucy thing!!!) Jelly, the 4 month old cleft palate English Bulldog Puppy, is doing very good. She prefers to play with it, but is drinking a little from the water bottle. We have offered her a variety of dry puppy food, but she just looks at the bowl, then at us like we have lost our minds. You can't imagine the looks she can give. Oops babies are calling. Have a great day - Judy
Smart Cookie & Happy's puppies have all been reserved, mothers and babies are all doing great.
Gabby is doing well and gaining weight. I'm hopeful that she will have more than 3 puppies,
but whatever the number we just want them to be healthy. Her due
date range is 4/18 to 4/26 because she was bred 4 times. The weather cleared up yesterday afternoon so The Tree Cutters got to finish up. These are pictures of the 72 year old Owner taking a much needed rest. The utility company cut down the trees over and beside the electricity
lines to the house and it is our responsibility to clean up the mess and 'Oh What A Mess'.
However it will have to wait until after I get all these plants potted. What a "Lucy Thing" I did, but it has become very interesting. A very kind lady sent me some Aquatic Plants for our small Goldfish Pond so I offered to send her some of the plugs. A man in Florida and I are going to trade cuttings of Philodendrons and several other people want to trade. I'll put my mind to that on Monday. I may have to take a long nap sometime soon .... so far this morning not all I'm doing is making sense. I asked Bob if he wanted to "read the radio" and when I went outside I thought, I need to get on the computer to see how cold it is, all the while I'm looking at a thermometer. Sleep deprivation caused from being up with the puppies every 3 hours, has me in a pitiful state, but I'm going to pot those plants!! Take care and have a good Easter. - Judy ![]() Thursday - 4/08/04 - 7:00 AM Update: Blaze, Sun Conure - She is really a NICE bird and Bob already has her eating out of his hand. She has not offered to bite, not the first time. The bird breeders I bought her from, had purchased her elsewhere so maybe she was just upset in their environment. At any rate, the situation is good for Blaze and Bob.
Meet Casper, our white cheeked latino (???) cockatiel, who has not been tamed yet.
He is very skittish, and will require a lot of work. Bob had promised to have him tamed
down right away but Blaze is the center of attention for now, so Casper's "one on one" will
have to wait a while longer. He's missing part of a toe on one foot so we're speculating
that is the reason
he's on the wild side .. traumatic experience/accident involving a human. If that's the case
he might never calm down to the point of being handles, but that's OK, we don't plan on
pushing the point.
The utility company tree cutters just left, they are the ones who had to cut the trees which were hanging over the power lines or could fall on them. They did a wonderful job. The other Tree Cutter is suppose to be back in the morning to haul the larger trees off to the saw mill and help me to clean up the mess left by the utility company. I have 129 emails awaiting a response or action from me.... there are just too many for me to handle by myself. I need a break so I've disabled the Application Function and also the Instant E-Mail Us page. This should reduce the number of incoming emails. - 6:30 AM The Tree Cutter brought me some Plum trees last night, I surely hope they live since they were pulled up, instead of having been dug. He told just to come over to his place and get all I wanted, if these didn't live. He said he just wanted to make sure, I got some now, because he's going into the hospital on Monday to have vein replacement surgery in hopes of restoring the circulation in his legs. He's 72 years old. Today is going to be hectic, with more trees being cut, the utility department coming out and maybe a run into town to have Sugar bred to Jazzman. Take care and have fun today. - Judy We had different sets of 'drop in' company from 1-6 PM. Whew, made me tired!!! Afterward Bob and I managed to upload pictures of Smart Cookies male puppies. They are in order according to size, small, medium & large. Aren't they precious!! ![]() Ranger - ![]() Mac - ![]() ![]() These are blossoms on our native peach trees. They are small size trees, with purple foliage, which propagate easily just by seeds dropping onto the fertile soil beneath the tree. The fruit size is small, about that of a pickling peach, but tasty. The tree cutters told me they have native plum trees and promised to bring some to me. It's not likely I'll let them forget!!
I knew you would be interested in the logging they are doing around the house, so here are some pictures.
I was out and about this morning, going into the big town to buy a few groceries and taking
some of my Angelwing Begonia plants to the lady at the butcher shop, who I knew would
appreciate them. I stopped by the Bait Shop to inquire about large goldfish, he said he only have
the smaller size to use as bait, but had one really big one, which I brought home
with me along with a dozen of the small size. (Bob loved the present.) My last stop was Lowe's for the ingredient for my special blend of
potting soil ... much cheaper than buying the more expensive prepared formulas, such as
MiracleGro. In the process, I saw they had many bags of various plant material which had
been busted open, so I approached them to let me purchase them at a discounted price.
For
$30 I have a van full...a large quantity of very good potting soil, bags of peat, soil conditioner and some
mulch. I did good!!! The 900 plants and 150 hanging basket I ordered have all arrived, the temperature is going
to be above 40 for at least the next 7 days, so I'm ready to PLANT!!! If you will remember back to your Grandmother's
house, with all those jumbled pots with sticks growning out of them and you will know what the house
looks like about now. I've even started saving the dog food cans, for cuttings I'm rooting for a
Plant Swap .... I am over the edge ... imagine tin cans of dirt with a twig in the middle sitting everywhere!!! (lol lol lol)We're up and going but 'our tail feathers are dragging' this morning. Don't you just love "country talk". When I wrote that, images of a poor old chicken with its feathers dragging on the ground, flew through my mind. (lol) Since I've slept late, "our gang" is having a fit to go out, more later. - Judy Both of Happy's Girls are now officially reserved!!! I will be adding the particulars just as soon as I get some sleep!!! I'll also take pictures of Smart Cookie's boys for people to choose. Maybe by then I can figure out who is suppose to get 2nd & 3rd choices. - 1:30 PM I got an excellent audit from the AKC inspector, he found nothing wrong at all!!! They inspected your premises as well as your records. Of course around here you have to step over dogs, around cats, through lumber and duck so your head won't hit a plant. It got down to 30, or there abouts, last night so all plants were brought into the house... we can't walk. Lady of Jazz has been reserved but the person who was to get 2nd pick wants to wait about getting a pup until late summer, vacation plans and such. I have now offered Red Hot Jazz to the third person on the list, who by the way already has one of our "babies". I'll keep you posted. Monday - 4/05/04 - 9:00 AM Lord Have Mercy!!! We surely have much to contend with this morning. The AKC inspector called last night to warn me that he will be here mid-morning. Not a problem, but I needed to reprint all my reports because they have been updated, etc. etc. since I last made a copy from my computer database. The printer spit out two pages then quit. Bob worked with it for forever then decided it must just be out of ink. Not being able to locate the extra ink, he makes a middle of the night hour round trip to Wal-Mart. The ink didn't fix the problem, so then he discovered it was broken!!! Luckily we have an old spare, but had no idea of it's condition. Round two begins with the printing process. Well you get the idea, the old one is slow as molasses and it takes all night to get everything printed and in acceptable order ... no sleep!!! At 8 AM I heard the chain saws start up, the tree cutters are here. They asked me to call the power department because some of the trees are too close to the wires. Lady taking the request is not agreeable, but will send someone out, tomorrow!!. A neighbor who used the tree cutters came over talking rude to them because he's ticked over the split of money on the logs. Meanwhile all the critters are having a fit - dogs barking, birds squawking and the cats are up under the house. Got to go get my chores finished right quick!!!! (lol lol) - Judy Tommorow we are taking Mo and Miss B to the vet's for ultrasounds. I believe they are "with pups" but if so will only have 2 or so pups. They were bred to Jazzman ... he just may be throwing small litters. - 8:00 AM I've started creating webpages for Happy & Smart Cookie's Puppies. Bob took pictures yesterday, but I didn't like the quality so we'll try again today. Meanwhile enjoy what I did upload. ![]() Happy's Jazzie Girls!!
My shopping at the Trade Days was extremely eventful but I did manage to get some of the
items on my list. Gus, the parrakeet now has a girlfriend, Josephine. She's beautiful,
yellow with a bit of green. I put her cage beside Jelly and she just chattered at her.
Jelly just stared at the bird then looked at me as if to ask, "What's That?". While buying Josephine, I noticed they had a Sun Conure (small beautiful parrot, but loud!!) which sell for around $400. They were asking $100 because it was "rough" meaning it would bite!! I went on my way, then ended up back at the stall and asked what was the lowest $ they would take.
When he said $75, I asked if that included
putting it in the cage I had just purchased, as I handed him the money.By this time I didn't have room in the van for the large chicken cage, so I paid for it and asked them to hold it until I could make a second trip. When Bob and I returned, we stopped to look at hand fed young cockatiels. I wanted a cuddly baby, but Bob saw a white faced Latino Cockatiel, also rough, that he wanted. It is a BEAUTIFUL bird and he promised he would have it cuddling with me in no time. But it's not getting
a chance, not after I saw it bite the devil out of the man selling it.Dear wonderful Bob is so excited about the birds. He said the Sun Conure was the best surprise he has had in a long time!!! I love to please him because he is so good to me!! Take care and check back later for pictures. - Judy I hope you will understand that the decision in regard to Jelly, is Bob's decision because he is the one who has helped her in her struggle to survive. It's every emotional for him but finally he told me that he didn't want to risk the surgery. I asked if I found a vet experienced in the surgery would it make a difference and he said "NO". I am in total agreement with him. (Reference Deleted 8/13/05) This account of a similar situation, which confirmed to us that we had made the best decision. Jelly's opening is in the "hard palate". To all of you who emailed, "Thank You For Caring". How profound that Jelly should receive a present in the mail yesterday all the way from Texas. Marcy and Amber, her Boxer pup, while Internet Surfing came upon Jelly's story and asked for our address to send her a present. Yesterday's present was the second one she has received from them. Marcy, a very special "Thank You". Your kindness has touched us deeply!!! Doing 'Lucy Things' always gets me in over my head ..... all 900 little plants/plugs arrived yesterday. GOSH and I can't bend my head down to look at what I'm doing so I can't plant them anytime soon. The plants were delayed because an order was not produced when I placed it online and paid the money. Then they were out of what I ordered so finally I just told them to ship "whatever" they had in Angelwing Begonias and Wandering Jew. Both of these are really easy for me to grow because they aren't as demanding as some other house plants. At this point you are shaking your head over the number 900 .....I bought wholesale and therefore had to buy a large number. For what I spent I could only have gotten about 15 hanging baskets at Wal-Mart. This way, although I'm going to work myself to death, I will have 200 baskets and my plan is to do a little trading and swapping with some of the baskets and leftover plants, so they won't take over this part of Tennessee. (lol lol lol) Before you ask, Bob is right in this with me. He loves the jungle we live in and is extremely pleased with the plants we got yesterday. The chickens are doing fine and growing like weeds, I'm not sure I like chickens for it seems they are pretty stupid, are probably going to be mean to each other and I've already been pecked at by the baby Rhode Island Reds. Plus, 'the strays that came to stay' are crazy wanting to eat them.. "possessed" is a better description. First Monday Trade Days (Click Here!!) are this weekend and I had wanted to go, to get the following but am not sure I'm 'up to it', so Bob might go instead. Only problem is he won't be able to find half this stuff because he isn't as familiar with the vendors. 1) Gus, the parakeet, a female friend and larger cage 2) Aquatic plants for our little goldfish pond 3) Bigger chicken cage and material to construct a portable outside cage on wheels, dog proof of course. Chickens eat bugs so I had (maybe have) visions of moving them all around the yard area. An added plus is they fertilize the yard as they go. Can you tell the only other chickens I've had was an Easter Chicken when I was a kid. I smushed it flat as a pancake when during my sleep I put it in bed with me because it was hollering. . I was so upset by what I had done that my sister gave me her baby chicken who lived a long time and even rode around on my shoulder. To this day I am thankful to my sister !! We are probably going to post updated pictures of the puppies some time today so you might want to check back. I've sent emails to the two people who get 1st and 2nd pick of Happy's females and they are anxiously awaiting pictures. I've also been in contact with the man who is getting first pick of Smart Cookie's male puppies, but my head has been hurting too bad to go through the applications to see who should get the opportunity to choose the other two. So many great things to do and only one lifetime, so I best get busy. - Judy Jelly is now 4 months old and weighs 5 lbs. She's about the size of an average 6 week old puppy. When Dr Jerry examined her today, he shook his head in disbelief that she has made it this far since she has a very large opening in the roof of her mouth. I can't tell you the number of nights we've been awake with her, not knowing if she would make it until sunrise. Compared to how she has been, she's doing
great, but at any time food or mucus could easily go into her lungs and kill her.
This risk will continue without an operation, but the operation is HIGH risk.
(Dr Jerry has only done this surgery once before and it was so
long ago he's forgotten the outcome.) Bob and I have a horribly tough decision to make and
every time I think about it or hold her in my arms, I cry, then she nibbles
my nose and it makes me giggle .... Gabby also went with us and the ultrasound determined she is indeed "with pups". We could actually see 3. Although I had recommended her pups to some people because they have children, I will first have to satisfy those who have been on the Waiting List the longest. To prevent this situation in the future, I decided not to share information regarding upcoming litters, it is just too stressful for me to disappoint people. We raise Bullies to make people happy, we do NOT make money doing this. All money from the puppies goes toward the care and upkeep of "our gang" - strays that came to stay, rescues and our "old Bully friends". Check back later today, we may post individual pictures of the puppies, if we can push the sadness over Jelly to the back of our minds. - Judy Good Morning!!! Poor Bob is very much sleep deprived, but he made sure "our gang" was quiet so I could 'sleep in' this morning. Until the pups are two weeks old he is the primary caregiver. I have an old neck injury which causes a violent headache if I hold my head down for even a short time. When the immediate fear of the mother accidently hurting them has passed, I take over their care, meanwhile I'm the support person. Goodness!!! It's rained, off and on, for the last three days and the temperature dropped down to 36 at 3 AM. It's a good thing I haven't had time to do any spring planting or move all the plants back out to the porches. The sun is out now which is making all of us feel a bit frisky. We have a hectic schedule with more things to do than we could possibly get done in a week, so we're assigning priority and going from there. Which beings to mind a couple of Rules To Live By. I need to print these in giant letters and post them on the wall: Don't be selfish, but put your basic needs at the top of your priority list!! Take care!! - Judy and can put your feet on the floor, is a good day. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone contend that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
