Raising Bullies is hard work--

-- But for us, it is a labor of love!

Written June 20, 2003 by Judy and Bob -

This is a list of our regular daily tasks.

There are only two of us and we try to share the load. Some tasks take both of us (you know -- brains and brawn). And there are some duties that Bob hates (housework, answering the phone, ...) and there are some duties that Judy doesn't do (giving shots, slinging puppies, paying bills,...).

5 AM (Later if it's raining; earlier if there is a new puppy; but, never later than 6 AM)

-Get up and Check the weather for the high today and if there is rain in the forecast.
-Bullies are walked, crates cleaned, old bedding removed and clean bedding added, used feeding pans collected
-All the Bullies, cats and strays are fed soaked Purina Puppy Chow with chicken, beef, pork or canned dog food added for flavor.
-Cup of coffee on the fly
-The kennel is scrubbed and washed down
-Puppies are allowed out to play, going in and out as we go about our chores, watching them carefully for rough play
-6 loads of dog bedding washed and hung on the line, two washing machines going at the same time, one in the house the other one in the kennel
-3 loads of dishes hand washed first then put in dishwasher.

10 AM
-Time for a break so we cook and eat breakfast while three or four Bullies roam the kitchen area.
-Inevitably, one or more decides they need to go potty again so it's constantly attending to their needs.
-As we eat there are those who bark for a bite and those who wait patiently for the leftovers. Sometimes, it is just too much so we retreat to the porch for a few minutes of "downtime".
-As the clothes washer and dish washer complete their job, we stoke them up again, hang out dog sheets, start the clothes dryer, and stack the dogs' feeding bowls.

11:30 AM
-The first pack of roaming Bullies 'go up' into their crates and out comes another round.
-Kitchen cleaned and floors swept
-Garden and house plants watered, grass mowed and other lawn care given

1:00 PM
-All the 'indoor' Bullies are taken out for a walk
-Puppies are allowed out to play again
-Meat for the dog food is put in the slow cookers to cook all night
-Medical needs of "our gang" attended to - one of them always needs physical or medical attention -- baths, nails clipped, wrinkles and ears cleaned, shots, etc.
-Continue on our house building chores
-Work on the web site and answer emails and pay bills

-5 PM
-We repeat many of the above tasks: walking, feeding, washing dishes or any dirty beds since some very young and very old have accidents, puppies out to play with some of the older Bullies who teach them manners like don't get in my face, you bite too hard when you play, leave me alone now, etc.

7:30 or 8:00 PM
-Eat and bed! We are exhausted
and I don't want to answer the telephone to have someone ask "Can you tell me all about Bullies? We're thinking about getting one...."

When we have puppies the workload is doubled, we get behind and there is no time to take a break, but that is exactly when people want to come visit and I get a ton of emails requesting pictures, prices and availability.

Note: There are additional tasks that have not been included since they are not 'daily tasks'. We average 2 trips a week to the vet - with a sick animal, for annual shots, AI's, C-sections, tails, new puppy health checks, etc. (52 miles round trip) Once a week, we go to the 'big city' (Tupelo, Mississippi or Memphis or Florence, Alabama) for dog food and supplies. Each destination is between 70 and 80 miles away. Grocery shopping is a 25 mile trip to Corinth and back so we only go on sale days... And our 'get-away' is sipping a beer at Ruby Tuesdays in Corinth about once a month...
