Puppy Gal Welcomes You To
Judy's Journal....

I started this feature for friends and family to answer the "what's going on" emails,
therefore I probably tell too much,
but you are welcome to come laugh, cry and sigh with us.

Judy - 5/20/03!

Monday - 6/16/03 5:00 AM CST
We now have an additional male Bully Pup which we got from our much beloved friends Gina & Phillip. They have a 4 year old son, plus two grown Bullies and lately Phillip has been working 14 hours a day farming. Gina has been ill for at least a month and she knew I would give my eye teeth for him, so they offered to sell him back to us ... we jumped at the chance. He is BEAUTIFUL, housebroken, well manner, etc. !!! Gina did a wonderful job of training him.

Goodness Gracious, we now have 4 Bully Pups all between the ages of 3 & 5 months, three of which are males!!!! We're keeping all of them, although the majority of our day is being spent taking them on potty breaks!!

After we got the Pup, we went to a nearby city, 30 miles away, to do a little shopping. Fresh pork picnic roasts were on sale for $.59 a lb, so you know what "our gang" will be having mixed with their soften Puppy Chow for the next few days.

Orange flowers? Now for my "Lucy Thing" -- Lucille Ball behavior. On our trip I noticed some gorgeous wild flowers not half a mile from the house. After we got back home and took care of "our gang" I asked Bob if he would go dig them up for me. He said "sure" so off we went. I was driving and paying too much attention to the flowers ... I ran into a dang ditch!!! Bob not only got us out of the ditch, he dug up the flowers that got me distracted. Isn't he wonderful!!! If you know what kind of flowers they are, I sure would appreciate an email...

It's days like this that I feel these song lyrics are appropriate, "I've always been crazy but it keeps me from going insane"

Have a Bully Butt Wiggle Day!!!

PS Got this email yesterday in regard to keeping pets off furniture and it sounds like a great idea. Beth, Thanks so very much!
Dear Judy,
If any of your readers want to keep their Bullie off a piece of furniture, I know an easy way. You get a roll of plastic carpet protector from walmart. The kind with the teeth underneath to grab the carpet. Cut the size you need, turn it with the teeth side up and cover the seat of the piece of furniture you want to protect. They won't jump up and land on those teeth for sure. I have tried it and it really works. Plus it's easy to take off and put away when company comes. Just thought I'd pass that along. Off to church now. Love, Beth

Saturday - 6/14/03 7:00 AM CST
Oops!!!! I've been on a diet for 5 days and I've gained 5 pounds.... You can't imagine how surprised I was when I weighed!!! I'm doing something wrong with regard to losing weight but I feel better, have more energy, etc.

I bet the weight gain is from all the fruit juice I've been drinking as a substitute for caffeine drinks - coffee, tea, cola. My friend, Michelle Mulder, sent me information on the Atkins Diet, I think I best switch to it.

This morning I told Sassy T that we both had some weight to lose. My silly 8 year old stubborn "Bully Baby" probably weighs 65 pounds. This picture was taken two years ago, recently she's been very sick and as a result hasn't gotten any exercise. Speaking of stubborn, she and I had fought over the right to claim a new leather couch. (I would never have bought such a thing with all these Bullies, but it was a present from my Mother.) I keep telling Sassy "NO" and she kept telling me, "You are being difficult, I've always slept on the couch". I grumbled at her and she grumbled right back making the weirdest sounds while trying hard to talk. I decided no more hassle, I would just turn a ladder back chair face down to prevent her from climbing up on it, problem solved, but Miss Stubborn had to win.
She just climbed up on the chair and went to sleep!!! She's my favorite!! I'm getting rid of that stupid couch and getting one we can all pile up on.

Email From Brenda Duncan, who is owned by Sassy T's Daughter, Miss Blossom: I had to laugh after reading your journal today. Boy are the mother and daughter like peas in a pod when it comes to what they want. One day John thought Blossom was hurt she was making such forlorn sounds. She wanted some ice cream with the kids. She had already eaten hers, but wanted more. I love to get her going, I swear she is talking and I think I understand her, which one is the weird one?

We love to exchange Kisses!!!! She's my Valentine!!!

In Time-Out Chair -
I still think he's an AX MURDERER!!

I have made slip covers for my furniture that I put on when company comes. My couches are white and covered with Bulldog slobber. I have cleaned them for the last time. I was afraid they would fall apart if I tried to clean them one more time. So I just cover them when guests come. She knows that they are off limits, but she pushes me to the limit. They are machine washable, but I would like to keep them nice looking for a "little while."

Take care of yourself and the bullies.

Hugs, Brenda

Friday - 6/13/03 9:00 AM CST

Many, many years ago I had a Doberman who always waited impatiently for me to finish my part of the apple so he could have the core - at that time I didn't know apple seeds are toxic.

Once I had a construction crew and we were all in one room sitting on the floor eating our brown bagged lunches. The Doberman got down on his belly and advanced ever so slowly toward one of the workers, who became very alarmed. I told the man it was alright Dob just wants the apple core when you're finished, immediately the man tossed him the complete apple. Saying "He can have it now!!!".

I always try to keep that situation in mind so I will be ever concerned about another person's reaction to one of my pussycat Bullies, they do look intimidating!!

Have a wonderful day!!!!

Thursday - 6/12/03 3:00 PM

Meet Miss Sugar Cookie, sister of famed Peanut Butter Cookie, who's date of birth was 1/17/03, making her almost 5 months old.

She's been jealous cause he gets all the publicity so I promised her I would post her picture and tell you all about her. She was so excited she wouldn't stay still for the pictures!!!
She is much more active than the boys, Peanut and Count, and therefore just runs circles around, over and on them. She is now shorter than Peanut by a good inch. She's a compact beefy girl and will be beautiful when grown. Her coloring is much like Mini-E's with the cream underbody color making her look as if she was painted by an artist. She loves to play with her toys, the boys and in water!!!

Chasing the cats is another favorite pastime but when they let her catch up with them, she gives Hello Kisses. She's sweet and loving just like her Daddy, Mini-E. She isn't aggressive at all but she does provoke the boys to display bad manners at times.

Wednesday - 6/11/03 10:00 AM CST

Mercy, this place is noisy this morning!!! Just imagine 10 kids playing in your house and you will know what I mean. Bob has spoiled all of "our gang" except for Fluffy.

Fluffy is a brat that loves ONLY ME! She refuses his affection but then I swear she does negative things just to get Bob's attention, just like a bad little kid. When only Bob is outside, she will scamper by distracting the pups whom he has taken out to potty, lure The Champ or Biscuit down the drive so he will have to run after them or just bounce around in a Bully's face to annoy them when they are being taken out on a lead for exercise or to potty or if he tells her "No" she will instigate chasing of the cats by Boomer & Dumpy. I can almost see her giggle when she is successful at being a bad!!!

BUT she keeps wild kids and animals at bay 24 hours a day. We don't have to worry about her being stolen; she stays fairly close to the house and would never allow anyone to catch her if I were not around. She hunts down and kills all sorts of critters that come near the house and warns us upon the arrival of strangers. Considering all this, she's worth her weight in gold, all 20 pounds of her.

Dogs are like people - none are perfect!!

Forgot to tell you yesterday there were two really big brown geese walking down the edge of the drive then crossed over toward the pond, when I tried to get a better look at them they hurried off so they aren't tame, but they didn't fly off either. Maybe someone dropped them off. Fluffy you better be careful with these big birds!!! People tell me they are better at guarding a person's property than dogs, meaner also!!

Tuesday - 6/10/03 Noon

Mr. Biscuit will meet his first girlfriend this week. This is her picture. She lives in Memphis which makes it convenient.

Biscuit's Girlfriend I've been doing a lot of daydreaming lately and I'm now convinced that it's almost as good for the soul as "Judy's Cure For the Blues" except there is no chance of gaining weight.

I'm on a very restricted diet as of today - no caffeine, no fried foods, etc. I can have salt, just can't "overdose" on it like I love to do. I'm to lose 20 pounds!! I weigh 140 pounds so that's down to 120!!! I actually like weighing 140 so this is going to be difficult, but I'll do it!!!

Judy's Cure For The Blues!!

Monday - 6/09/03 4:00 PM
Today has been a busy day here!!! We woke up at Midnight and couldn't go back to sleep for thinking of what we were schedule to take care of at 7:30 AM. Our business was not concluded so we are waiting for information on the course of action we should take next. After this we treated ourselves to a Chinese Buffet then returned home about 2:30 PM. "Our Gang" acted as if we had been gone for a month instead of only hours, Silly Bullies!!!!

Saturday - 6/07/03 7:00 AM - revised 1:00 PM
Royal Bread Pudding Recipe - Created By PuppyGal!!

Now that The Champ has been neutered, he is playing very well with the younger "babies" - Peanut Sugar and Count. He tempts them to play by getting one of his bones or other toys out and teasing them with it. It is just too cute. We allow closely supervised playtime 4-5 times a day. The Champ & Tyler - 4/05/03! The one we are having to correct most often is Sugar, Miss Alpha Girl, not mean just a little rougher on the boys than she should be. I have a very small section of the newspaper that I keep handy and when she steps over the line I call her name and give her a light, but hard enough so it makes noise, pop on her little behind. Most of the time all I have to do is call her name in a deep, louder than normal voice, she knows she has gotten carried away and will back down a notch.

It's a rainy day here, but our spirits are good. I'm guessing we wear a smile 90% of the time. When a person has a positive outlook work is easier and life is more rewarding, so if we're faced with obstacles we consider the worse possible thing that could happen, figure out how we're going to deal with it if it were to happen, then we move ahead. We put the bad happenings behind us and go on up the ladder of life ... one step at a time.

Our hours on the road yesterday were spent dreaming and scheming of good things to come!! I kept my eye out for an old "dog trot" house that we could resurrect and moved onto our property. I guess we'll have to travel some back roads to see if one can be located!! Always wanted an old "two-seater, out house" so maybe I'll find both at the same time.

Dog Trot House - "the original structures consisted of two rooms, approximately 17 feet by 17 feet, with a fireplace in each. Between the rooms was a covered open space known as a "dog trot." From the rafters of this space hung the winter’s supplies of dried vegetables, sides of bacon, wild animal skins and seed corn for the next planting".

AND below is probably what it will look like when I find it!!!

Dog Trot House

People will think I'm crazy!!! LOL LOL

Friday - 6/06/03 7:00 AM

Gina & Phillip are a God Send!!! We micro chipped the Bullies and talked of things to come. While Bob gave Gina & Phillips lessons on maintaining a web site, four year old Tyler and I played. I had special paints for glass so we drew all over the back door, I allowed him to water all the plants, that didn't need watering, etc. He has a speech problem, probably the result of a difficult birthing, so he doesn't try to talk much, but he puts his hand on your arm or leg to get your attention and his facial expressions are priceless... what a child!!!

Hope you have a Bully Butt Wiggle Day!!!!.

Monday - 6/02/03 - 8:00 AM

We just never know what we'll be doing!! Yesterday, we got a telephone call and were immediately on our way to Alabama to buy a one year old male Bully named Biscuit, who will hopefully be our new stud. He has a great disposition, is really small (41 pounds plus short in height and body length) and is from our bloodline which thrills me. Elvis has been retired and this new Bully is his Grandson!! Getting him is such a relief because I've been so afraid of getting a stud from "outside our bloodlines" since I wouldn't know the traits and genes in it's background.

Buttercup the female cat returned home after being gone for 8 days. She was so excited to be back that she forgot herself and rubbed her head on my hand, normally she won't allow anyone to touch her. Poor baby was really hungry.

Sunday - 6/01/03 - 6:00 AM

Good Morning!!!! We've been up and going for a while now and we're going to sneak out in a few minutes to have breakfast at a local restaurant. The "$4.99 special breakfast" contains enough food for two normal people or one growing country boy: 3 eggs, choice of meats, potatoes or grits, biscuits and beverage.

The female cat "who came to stay" 4 years ago has disappeared. Her poor brother has been very upset, walking the roof of the house crying out for her. We're very sad - she must be dead or she would have come back home.

I spent yesterday in our upstairs bedroom piled up in bed reading and thinking about life, both past and present. I think everyone should take a day every once in a while, just to make sure they have the right prospective on life and their particular situation. There is just no way a person can think things through properly, if they are constantly bombarded by noise from their "high level sound environments" - radio, TV, cell phone, telephone, all turned up on high. Another day of contemplation would do us both good so a little later today Bob and I may go out on the lake fishing, bait being optional.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Saturday - 5/31/03 - 8:00 PM

Life is like a Wild Bronco, just when you think you've got it tamed, it takes off again -- snorting and heels high!!!!

Tuesday - 5/27/03 - 4:00 PM

Our hearts go out to Beth & John who came yesterday to visit and discuss further the situation with Major, a Rescue Bully they took in 2 years ago. After many lengthy conversations I strongly suspect the Bully had been taken to a vet to be "put down" because he had become aggressive due to a head injury, maybe hit by a car. The Rescue Organization was made up of a couple of Vet Techs and either they didn't observe him in his "abnormal aggressive state" or they just thought it was a quick way to get $350, which is how much John & Beth paid for him,($250 fee to cover "supposed" expenses and a $100 donation) plus Beth drove 8 hours to pick him up.

Immediately he was aggressive and when she attempted to gather more information, they got mad at her telling her she could return him to them, but she was not to attempt to get information from the previous owner. After two long years of trying everything in the world and spending mega dollars to help Major, today the decision has been made to "put him down". He has bitten Beth a couple of times during the past two years, for which she has made excuses, but recently he has gotten much worse and last week he attacked her several minutes after she broke up a fight between he and their other Bully. I suspect there has been a steady swelling of the brain causing increased pain and disorientation therefore the aggressive behavior has progressed.

Bob talked to Dr Frank this afternoon and he agrees with their decision. Dr Frank will allow Beth to hold and comfort Major as he is given the shot to set him free of his pain for forever. We're meeting at Dr Frank's office in the morning at 8 AM. We're going for emotional support and to run interference should the need arise.

This decision is tearing their hearts out, but they know it is the right decision. Please keep Beth and John in your hearts and prayers. May Major rest in peace!!!

Well!!! We finally found out what has been making the "yard dogs" bark so much at night, a Sundowner. It is waking up and going about his business just about the time it starts to get dark. He's a funny looking creature of the Opossum family, that's Possum to most of us. Sundowners are solid white with a tail that sticks straight up when they run and they aren't near so skittish as regular Possums. I couldn't get you a picture of the one hanging around here so you'll just have to use your imagination when you view the pictures on the web site below.

I told Bob under no circumstances is he to make friends with this critter!!!

Saturday - 5/24/03 - 7:00 AM

We have 10 Bullies between the ages of 8 and 13 years. Several times we've nursed the oldest one back to health, even through a stroke which caused her to loose control of her bladder and her head to tilt to one side for over a year. The average life expectancy for Bullies is 9 years so we feel blessed that our companions are living a full life.

Three of the 8 year olds are experiencing severe health issues at this time - Elvis, Sassy (my favorite, I just can't help it) and Daisy. Much of our emotional and physical energies are being spent on them. It's extremely hard but we wouldn't consider any other option. At times tears seep out of the corner of our eyes and we're so emotional we find ourselves taking it out on each other. At other times we remember with a smile all the pleasure we've experienced with our sick Bully friends.

All of the time, we know they love us and appreciate our efforts...that's more that many humans show.

Friday - 5/23/03 - 2:30 PM

There is a funny story from the past, when the cats first came to live with us and Angel was still alive. The below picture of Dingo in our driveway will give you a sense of how secluded we are sitting back up in the woods:

Up and going at 4:30 AM, I had been in third gear and had accomplished a great deal. I had fed and walked all the grown Bullies, put out food for all the "strays that had come to stay" and was busy getting puppy food ready to be fed. At 5:00 AM it was still dark outside and suddenly I heard a vehicle horn blowing anxiously. Fear immediately engulfed me. Dingo
Thoughts of my parents in an emergency situation made the hair stand up on my arms. I flipped on the back porch light to signal to whoever was in such great need that I was aware that they were there and I was on my way. Immediately, the horn stopped! Looking out the back window, I was unable to see vehicles other than our own. Then I realized that it sounded just like my van horn and since there were no other vehicles, it had to be.

My next thought was that someone was stranded with car trouble and seeing all the lights at our house had come for assistance but Angel, My Guardian Angel, had gotten after them so they had jumped into the safety of my van...or maybe it was someone with evil intent. I ran into the bedroom and told Bob to wake up because someone was in my van blowing the horn. I then ran again to the back door of the house. I looked out and noticed Angel and Boomerang, by the van door. The hair was not standing up on her back like it does when she's "after something". I then decided, whoever was in there was afraid of the dogs so I called them to me. I took a deep breath and together we walked back out to the van.

Sitting in the driver's seat was "someone's throw away cat" who lives under the porch and snatches food from the dog dish when they aren't looking. He is still so frightened will not allow anyone to get within 5 feet of him. It was then that I noticed a moth on the windshield. The cat had evidently been jumping on the steering wheel (horn) attempting to catch the moth.

Bob arrived, adrenaline pumping, just in time to see the cat bolt from the van.

- 9:00 AM

On Thursday, I threw away the iron and ironing board, I don't ever want to use those again. After that I got started making a Father's Day present for Bob. He asked me to write him a short story, which I did with 3,656 words. My writing style is not for everyone because it is extremely emotionally. It took me all day, but by nightfall I presented it to him and he is delighted. He wants to enter it in Short Story Contest so I told him it was his to do with as he pleased. He made me feel like I had given him a "priceless" gift. Isn't he wonderful!!!

Wednesday - 5/21/03 - 9:30 AM

Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day.

Bob & Judy want to go out to play!!

Our spirits have been a little low so we took yesterday afternoon off "just for ourselves". We drove to Memphis in the rain, looked around and ate at a Chinese Restaurant. Naturally, we brought back leftovers for the "yard dogs". We have them so spoiled they act like fools whenever we return home. Before you ask - I did NOT go to all the other tables asking if they wanted to make a contribution to our "doggie bag", although sometimes I am tempted!!!

Contribution From Beth Glowacki, Bully Owner:

-My Vet recommends the following to prevent Ear Infection: Equal parts of peroxide, white vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Used on a weekly basis, you'll never get mites or infection."

I have more complicated recipes for the actual Treatment & Prevention of Ear Problems but this is a preventive and so very simple everyone could use it!!

Monday - 5/19/03 - 6:30 PM

Judy - 5/20/03! We're making a cocoon which will help to nourish our souls and restore our energy - We have done away with the TV which allowed us to be bombarded with the bad happenings of the world... over and over and over each day. (We had the Dish disconnected.) We've added our telephone number to the State of Tennessee List of People who do not want to be bothered by Telephone Solicitors. Although I have on the web site that the telephone number is to be used for Emergencies Only, I'm still getting calls from people wanting to know when we will have another litter so we've added Caller ID to our telephone to enable us to avoid "Private Number" and "Unknown Caller" and other people we do not know. I don't want to speak with anyone who will not identify themselves, plus 90% of the people who call have free minutes on their cell phones and want to "talk Bulldogs" because it is their hobby!! We do not have enough free time for ourselves so we surely don't need to waste time talking to people who have not taken the time to read our web site.

Miss B escaped yesterday. I had taken her out for a walk, then put her in a holding pen to get some more exercise and a few minutes of sunshine. Five minutes later she was gone, I forgot to fasten the gate. While I was out driving the road running the property, a neighbor came and got Bob, they had caught her but didn't have a lead to bring her home. I can't express how frightened I was!!

Elvis is doing a little better, I'm feeding him small portions about 11 times a day. The cause of the problem is that his lymph nodes are enlarged, but the biopsy results didn't show that they were cancerous so he is on steroids at present and the vet is hoping it will reduce their size. I just don't know much else at this point. Poor guy will be 8 years old in December.

Today we went to the Florence, AL for a nice visit with a person who has one of our pups and then we bought dog food at the Sam's Warehouse. The people who work there are always so nice. I had to stop at the plant department at Lowe's and then at a nursery. I finally found some Angel Wing Begonias plus other plants. Bob, my plants and my puppies are lots of trouble but they sure make me smile.

Sunday - 5/18/03 - 6:30 AM

I'm so sick of thunderstorms and tornado warnings!!! The area surrounding the house is wild with weeds because the ground has been too wet to mow for weeks, mosquitos are beginning to breed in the puddles of water left standing in the woods, working in the flower beds is impossible because you sink into the earth when you take a step... BUT, I love the feel of my naturally wavy hair when the humidity makes it fuzzy, sitting on the porch watching the rain, it's tapping against the side of the house when I'm on my way to sleep and the snuggly attitude of the Bullies because the storms reminds them that we are here to protect and love them... Maybe that's why God doesn't prevent thunderstorms and tornados, we need to be reminded.

Friday - 5/16/03 - 6:00 PM

We had a wonderful time today with Beth & John. We felt like we had known them for forever!!! Bob cooked a very nice lunch of Pasta with Alfredo Shrimp Sauce and it wasn't until they left that I realized the salad was still in the refrigerator.

They fell in love with The Champ (Jeb) and of course he really hammed it up for them. He is an absolutely wonderful Bully who minds very well, although sometime I have to raise my voice to remind him that "I'm The Boss". When I do he really gets his little wiggly butt in motion, it's so cute.

It was a good way to start my "time off".

Thursday - 5/15/03 - 8:00 AM

Today is the first day of my extended vacation!!! Friends know the whole story, if you don't please read below. I will be posting updates to this page while I am "away".

One of the first things we're doing is taking time out for company on Friday. Beth & John lived in FL and have recently moved to Memphis. We have never met but we've been e-mailing for about 3 years, our relationship having started when they took in a rescue Bully. I hope that we are not a disappointment to them.

We are very interested in a new project!!! Tina O'Brien, friend and owner of one of our "babies" named Big Boo, has introduced several people where she works to the Peanut Series. Yesterday, we got this e-mail from her:

"A couple of people here at work have ask me if you and Bob would give permission for the "Peanut" story to be used in our HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) volunteer literacy program. Some students express interest in dogs....and who better than Peanut to prompt them to read, especially with his cute little expressions. Please let me know."

We told her she had our permission and that Bob would be glad to take suggestions on future chapters, etc. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Peanut could help motivate children to read while sneaking in "life lessons". Peanut is just as sweet as Bob writes him up to be.

Come back often for updates....

Peanut Butter Cookie Adventures Has a New Look!!

New Food Creation By PuppyGal!!

Wednesday 5/14/02 - Noon
The Champ is back from the Vet's having been neutered and is doing fine. He never skipped a beat!! Poor Elvis is in very poor condition because he throws up his food. We've done everything so finally the Vet did exploration surgery from which he has recovered but didn't find anything that was abnormal. We thought the surgery had corrected the problem somehow, but it has slowly come back.

Of the three puppies, Peanut is absolutely the sweetest and most well behaved. Sugar is too rowdy with both he and Count (a.k.a. Counce) but she really seems to enjoy the attention Count gives her, she will lay down on the floor and let him get on top of her growling and nibbling. I won't allow him to get "mad", if he does he gets a light pop with a newspaper and a loud "NO". If he does it again, he has to go for a "time out". We do NOT allow aggressive behavior!!!

New Peanut Butter Cookie Adventure...

Tuesday - 5/13/03 - 9:30 PM
Bob and I were so exhausted that we were forced to take the day off. We left mid-morning for a long leisurely drive through the countryside, ate lunch at a great buffet in the big city and just relaxed. Of course you know I had to mix business with pleasure so we stopped by a Sam's Warehouse to get dog food on the way back. We're refreshed and ready to tackle all our chores first thing in the morning. Now for a long nights sleep, if the "strays that came to stay" don't bark at buggers all night long. Don't get me wrong, if there is something or somebody out there, I surely want them to bark.

Monday - 5/12/03 - 5:00 PM
Update E-mail I received today:

I just wanted to say hi and let you know that Dudley and Diesel are doing great (from Reba & PepperJack's 07/12/02 Litter)......the last time we took them to the vet about a month ago Dudley was 60 lbs and Diesel was about 55lbs....are they still growing? Some people told us they grow until 18 months....wow, I can't imagine what they will be like then....they are turing 1 yr in July. I will keep you posted from time to time....as always we check your site weekly. Still our favorite!

Regards,
Nancy and Henry
Silver Lake, WI

Sunday - 5/11/03 - 9:00 AM
Nasty storms rolled through in the middle of the night and knocked out electricity for miles around. To show you how "small town it is" around here, when I called to report the problem a lady answered from her home, the "after-hours" phone having been forwarded, she told me they had several reports in our area and a crew was on it's way, so it shouldn't be long, but be sure to call back if the repair time wasn't reasonable. Sure enough, power was fully restored about an hour later.

The Count of Dogwood Pond Counce (now named 'The Count of Dogwood Pond'), Peanut and Sugar are doing just fine!!! They are growing and we believe they will be some of our "small Bulldogs", short both in body and height but chunky. Bob has a tendency to only take pictures of Peanut but I'll push him to take some of Sugar & Counce for you. The Champ has started to become sexually active so we can't let him play with the little puppies any more - he wants to play the wrong kind of games. If all goes well he will be neutered next week to prevent additional unwanted behavior, such as territory marking.

Happy Mother's Day to all you fine ladies out there who are Mothers or Grandmothers to our "babies", Bullies of course.

Judy

Friday - 05/09/03 - 10:00 AM
Dueling BBQ Sauce (reference 4/30 entry), yesterday we were sent some "Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Barbecue Sauce" made in Schiller Park, IL. Their stated philosophy is "The Sauce Is The Boss" (www.sweetbabyrays.com). I asked Bob to do a taste comparison test this morning before breakfast to insure his taste buds were in prime condition!! Sweet Baby Ray's is the one he chose. It is much like Bone Suckin BBQ Sauce (www.bonesucking.com) made in North Carolina but more flavorful.

If you have a favorite regional BBQ sauce that you want to sent in for the BBQ Sauce Comparison, please send it to: Big Daddy Bob, 185 Betty Lane, Pocahontas, TN 38061.

I've just made up a new batch of dry BBQ seasonings. If I've promised you a package, just send me an reminder e-mail, or if you have one of our "babies" and want some let me know.

While we are on the subject of food:
- Eddyleon Raspberry Jelly Graham Cookies, are "to die for".
- Bertolli Brand products are great, Portobello Mushroom with White Wine Sauce is devine
- elRio Brand Mexican Foods are wonderful, Burrito Seasoning Mix is very good.

- 6:00 AM
Last night some of "our gang" started doing their intruder bark. I had already gone to bed so I dressed and went downstairs to investigate. It was Dingo, the wild dog!!! When I opened the door he took off but returned when I called his name. Fluffy, Boomer & Dumpy were dancing all around him in a happy greeting. He evidently had been holed up through all the bad weather and was about half starved from the looks of him. He was eagerly finishing off the left over softened food we had put out for the "strays that came to stay" so I got him some cooked meat out of the refrigerator. He was far too hungry to eat the dry dog food we keep on the porch. Exceptionally hungry animals will gobble down the dry food but it most cases it won't stay down long - softened dog food or cooked meats have the best chance of staying with them. He let me love on him, he licked my hand and then I turned off the outside light and went back upstairs to let him finish his meal in peace.

Going up the stairs, tears ran down my cheeks as memories of my deceased Angel (mixed shepherd stray) flooded my soul, she had been a friend to all dogs in need. She was the one who befriended him and brought him to our home to eat over a year ago. For 5 months he laid out in the woods too frightened to even let us see him. Finally we made friends, and he became one of "our gang". Then Angel died and Dingo went away, too insecure of his position without his friend around to reassure him.

Angel & Our Other Strays That Came to Stay!!

Thursday - 05/08/03 - 9:00 PM
It rained a little this morning but after that we had clear skies and like a fool when I went to buy a insect sprayer, I bought 10 azaleas!!! Gosh they were only $.99 each so I went crazy. Now, I have to figure out where in the world I'm going to plant them.

Peanut Butter Cookie Adventures Has a New Look!!

Wednesday - 05/07/03 - 10:00 PM
Oh my sweet "babies". I just got these pictures today from Floyd T & Michelle, they are of Wyatt and America (a.k.a. Miss B's Dumas & Gabby's Somer).

- 10:00AM
We sure know how Noah felt!! This weather sure keeps us exhausted - foggy headed and tired during the day from lack of sleep at night. We've been through some terribly high winds and horrible rain. The creeks and rivers are way out of their banks, and there has been a lot of flooding in the lower areas with water getting in homes, being across the roads, etc. Here the water is just standing making it very almost impossible to walk in the yard because you sink an inch or 2 with each step and the bullies are refusing to go out to potty. The rain was so hard that it beat down many plants and washed away all the dirt from everything newly planted. I put more dirt around them yesterday, but last night we had more horrible rain that lasted for hours so I suppose I'll have the job to do again. I'm waiting until the cell coming from the South passes before I even look.

- 3:00 AM

Sweet Tater Pie went to howling. It's pouring down raining outside so I know she won't go out to potty. She must have heard something. We just checked the National Weather Radar and it appears a "big one", storm that is, is headed this way and will probably hit about 5-6 AM. If you could see the destruction in Jackson, Tennessee, you would realize it doesn't matter what type of building you are in, if it's coming your way the only safe thing to do is pray.

Tuesday - 05/06/03 I've been busy much of the day cleaning up damage from the high winds. It washed most of my flower bed plantings away and overflowed pots which didn't have drainage holes because later in the summer they will need all the moisture they can get. The Champ went wadding in all the mud, sat down in the middle of a swamp the rains had created and didn't want to come out. I had to wade in to get him. Meanwhile all the rain during the last week has cause the grass and weeds to jump up!! We can't mow because the ground is so soggy, so I guess we'll have to rent some goats - don't I wish I could.

- 11:00 AM
Wet soggy ground is perfect for planting and pulling weeds out of the flower beds. The only problems I'm having are the animals - Sweet T. Pie got scared of the sucky sound the shovel was making and bolted over my lilies, while The Champ keeps walking off with my trowel or getting his big self in my way!!! Animals, Go Up!!!

Not you, Big Daddy (Bob)! Come back here! You don't get off THAT easy!

- 9:30 AM
Whew!!! The storms have been terrible, but no tornados.

Yesterday, water was almost up to the porch in the back, it was running so fast and furious down the drive. At present, there is no rain and the sky is pretty clear but we are under a "tornado & flood watch" until 1 PM.

If a person was afraid to "meet their maker", they were in sad shape last night!! A giant oak tree beside the pond got hit by lightening, the high winds flattened all my plants, blew hanging baskets off their hooks, sent the ferns which were still in light pots off the porch and caused empty food dishes and anything not anchored to go sailing. "Our gang" got really upset by the noise all of this was making.

I decided there wasn't anything I could do except be grouchy this morning if I didn't get any sleep, so I just put a pillow over my head and slept through most of it!

Monday - 05/05/03 - 8:00 AM
Don't worry about us, the tornadoes hit about 70 miles north in the Jackson, Tennessee area. Our forecast for most of the week is severe thunderstorms!!

New Peanut Butter Cookie Adventure

Sunday - 05/04/03 - 2:00 PM
Aren't little Miss Grace & Maggie a matched pair!!! We got this in Friday's email.

We're exhausted from having had company for two days, but we very much enjoyed interacting with the New Puppy Parents and hope they will be comfortable enough to communicate with us about anything... wait a minute there are some personal problems I would prefer not to hear!!

The Beckers brought "our gang" a BIG bag of doggie bones for which we are thankful. Our gang loves them and will nudge my pocket or hand looking for one. The daughter they brought with them and her friend were the type of children that every parent in America wants - intelligent, so very polite, respectful, talkative but not to excess and when they got tired of grownup conversation they excused themselves to go play games in the car. What better conduct could a parent want. Brenda is one "Lucky Lady" - you could see the love and admiration for her in Allen's eyes. They would make wonderful Bully breeders.

Sanjib, originally from India, & Lynn were delightful. The type of people who seem to invite conversation and make you feel they are genuinely interested in everything you have to say. I'm afraid I talked a little too much and put them running late in getting to a motel for the night. I wanted to ask Sanjib so many questions, but My Mamma Gertie taught me - you do not pry by asking questions, when a person is a visitor in your home

Ramel and John came today to look at Willis and it was love at first sight so of course they couldn't leave without him. Ramel works during the day and John normally works at night so Little Willis will never be alone. They will probably be back in a few months to get another pup because we could tell they were going to argue over who gets to hold him. I sure hope Ramel doesn't ready this... I believe Willis favored John!! Just like males to stick together.

All the puppies have gone to their new homes, except the ones that are staying here permanently - 3 of them now aren't we just crazy!!!! Well, I wanted to keep Sugar (5 weeks old in pic), Bob wanted to keep Peanut and we both decided that keeping Counce was the only financially sound thing to do. I'm not sure we considered...the mentally sound thing to do!!! LOL LOL

The adventures of Peanut!

I've got to run, Bob just got out of the hammock (hanging on the porch) so I'm going to jump in before he can get back!!

Friday - 05/02/03 - 10:00 AM
Tomorrow we are going to have 2 or 3 sets of people coming to pick up puppies. I'm cooking a repeat menu, because it is easy to fix and hold until people arrive. We're having BBQ Pork Roast, potato salad, cole slaw, and baked beans. If time permits I'll fix a cobbler or pudding. There are three things in this world that Bob & I are passionate about - each other, "our gang" and cooking!! Last night, I fixed a Blond Lasagna (Alfredo Sauce, mushrooms & cheese), and a regular Lasagna. The Blond Lasagna won in the taste test!!! It was wonderful and oh so very easy!!

Thursday - 5/01/03 - 9:00 AM
To All The Owners of PuppyGal Bullies, please don't stop sending me pictures and updates on your Bully. We very much like to hear about our "babies" and if you have a problem, please do not hesitate to call or send an e-mail!!!

I'm taking some "time out" because we have an average of 800 people visiting our website per day!!! I get e-mails from all over the USA and occasionally other countries on a daily basis. I receive an average of 30 per day from people I do not know - wanting to sell me a litter of pups, asking questions about their Bully, begging for a free Bully pup, asking why I won't ship our "babies", some are perverts pretending to be a child, some are cons and some are just plain rude. Most are from lonely people just wanting someone to communicate with via e-mail and once I respond to them, they attach themselves to my e-mail address and will not let go.
