The E-Mail Function has been disconnected due to the unbelievable number of Spams and Scams. If you need to speak to me please call (731) 376-0635 between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM CST. This is a private residence, we are not a company. This telephone number is on the State of Tennessee and Federal NO CALL lists for telemarketers.

Please do not call me in reference to when we will have available puppies, I will post that information on the website when the time is appropriate. Be polite and you will receive same in return, but if you are rude (don't call me Judy if you refer to yourself as Mr. or Mrs. I'm not beneath you in life's pecking order) or ask explicate sexual questions about breeding, I'll say goodbye and hang up the telephone.

"Miss Kate Of Dogwood Pond", Sunday - December 13, 2009 3:15 PM

When Bob came up to bed last night, he was sad ... Miss Kate, who owns a big piece of his heart, wasn't doing well and he was afraid their goodnight kiss would be the last. He got up early to make her turkey soup with noodles, her favorite, only to find that she had crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

She was born in his lap 12 years ago and they have had a special bond since. For the past couple of years all she has wanted was to be where she could at least see him, so he would load her up in one of the little wagons taking her along with him as he did his outside chores, but the past couple of weeks it has been too cold and rainy.

Saying goodbye is so hard. - Judy

11:45 PM It's been a horrible day ... we've gone from having tears run down our cheeks, to being at each other's throats, to swearing we would never love a critter that much again.

"Slow Recovery!!", Saturday - December 12, 2009 9:15 PM

Lord Have Mercy what a time we've been through. About 3 days ago Bob told me he was thinking about taking me to the hospital. Well I suppose my high fever and dramatic passing of blood did indicate he should be the one making decisions, but there was no way anyone was going to make that decision for me. I raved and ranted, he left the bedroom on the pretense of having to take care of the critters, cause in his opinion I was just being bullheaded or maybe that was pigheaded.

Just imagine your gut being on fire and bleeding. I figured if I could somehow get it calmed down it would heal. On the front end of this episode, the telephone was plugged in ...right in the middle of upchucking some fool called and gave me "whatfor" because I wasn't updating the website. Then another one called just wanting to talk to me about the right dog food for his puppy NOT ONE OF MINE. Now both these people had to be on the website to get the telephone number but had not bothered to read anything I had written.

Scam artist have gotten the telephone number and are calling day and night, that's it ... unplug, otherwise I'll never get well. Right in the middle of a 103 F episode when I starting being delusional, I remember a crazy big time doctor in Memphis with no bedside manner who told me I had Chron's, there was no cure and it would eventually kill me. Needless to say I divorced myself of him and the situation immediately, I had a full plate already and surely didn't need to be told I was going to die.

I asked Bob to look up Crohn's disease on the internet ... seems I'm in the throws of a big time episode. I made the decision to chill and heal. No resectioning of my gut or any of that stuff ... please. It has been terrible and after I get a CT scan, etc. we'll probably make the decision not to have any more puppies.

Hopefully life will return to semi-normal and we'll find many things to laugh about in the very near future. - Judy

PS Jeb is taking advantage of Bob to the point it is pitiful. If he can't come up here and get in the bed with me, and believe me he can't cause I'd just die, then he decided he didn't have to do anything Bob told him to do. Bob says he's just giving that look that says "you are not my mama. I don't have to do anything you say and there is nothing you can do to make me". Oh Lordy he needs me down there to straighten his little behind out. lol lol

"Well???? No", Friday - December 4, 2009 8:30 PM

I just about went to the emergency room last night but was afraid I would come out worse off than I was, I'm so against invasive testing unless it's the last resort. Last night I was kinda thinking it might be the last resort. lol lol I was up every hour, in horrible pain. I felt like Michael Jackson, just wanting a little relief, but knowing that wasn't going to be I was just going to have to tough it out. BUT I swear this will never happen to me again ... no matter what I have to do.

Don't worry I'll get though this and be just fine, I just have to be patient and not let the profuse bleeding freak me out. - Judy

"Silly Puppy!!!", Monday - November 30, 2009 8:30 PM

Jeb can't help himself, he tries his best to make a bee line for the staircase when Bob's not looking. He's really good at pulling the kiddygate back and zipping into the living room. We are both scared he will fall down the steps so if I hear doggy footfalls at the bottom of the steps or if Bob notices the gate disturbed we're quick to react.

I finally told Bob just to bring the fat bugger up here and put him in bed with me, but Bob said he didn't know if he could take him back down the stairs ... if he started wiggled because he didn't want to go. lol lol

I woke up feeling better this morning and so far have not had much of a fever so I'm hopeful I'll be ready to boogie tomorrow. - Judy

"Happy Birthday To Me!!!", Sunday - November 29, 2009 7:30 PM

I woke up this morning hopeful of being able to get up and boogie, but that didn't happen. I spent my birthday piled up in bed reading, napping or on the computer reading world news. I think I'm a expert on current events, oops that's not right when you have fever you forget what you read. lol lol

Bob gave me a camcorder for my birthday and I'm anxious to try it out on the critters and those dang deer so you'll know what I'm taking about when I say "blacktop dogs", "three legged deer", "strays that came to stay", "cats that were thrown away" etc...

Live life to the fullest ... - Judy

"LOL LOL", Saturday - November 28, 2009 8:30 PM

I'm still "sick as a dog", but Bob has sworn to toss the Angel Trumpets out the window if I'm not better by tomorrow. Tomorrow is my birthday and we were going to do something special. He absolutely refuses to let me go downstairs where there are cuttings I was going to send to a lady in North or South Carolina, right now I don't know which. He promised to package them up and send them. He is such a good person!!!

We lost one of our retired English Bulldog mamas today, too sad for words, but getting old just takes is toll on humans and critters. I'm worried about losing more because we have several that are getting up there in years and winter is the time of the year that takes is toll.

Goodness hug up your "babies" every chance you get. - Judy

"Thanksgiving", Thursday - November 26, 2009 7:30 PM

Lordy I'm so sick I can't stand myself ..... but I think I finally figured out what I'm allergic to ... Angel Trumpets!!!! It's suppose to get down to 29 F tonight so I pulled my sorry behind out of bed and started cutting them down to bring into the house. I've had two major allergic attacks today. I went back on my journals to find the first time I had an allergic attack and you guessed it, 2004 when I got my first brug. It's the sap, not the bloom or plant.

I told Bob I love my Angel Trumpets but not enough to die for, so I'll probably call a friend of mine and ask if she wants to come get all the cuttings that I've brought into the house. I've got double apricots, Day Dreams (double who is hard to get going but once she does, she shines, shines, shines), Rosamond Offspring (she is so good and wholesome, insect resistant)

The key to wintering over brugs is to strip them of their leaves, put them in an area that is not heated but will not freeze. If the temp gets up the insects get to reproducing.

I didn't ship plants this week because I was afraid they would end up freezing over the long holiday.

Stay safe, stay well and tell those you love how much they mean to you. - Judy

"Stupid Plants", Wednesday - November 25, 2009 8:00 PM

Lawdy its gonna be 29F tomorrow night so I've got to bring in the Angel Trumpets, or leave them out to freeze. Don't tempt me ... 100 F fever I pulled my stupid behind out of the bed, like to have choked myself to death trying to eat a bit of something, throat is swollen. Then I went into a major upper respiratory snit and when Jeb started barking for part of what I was eating, he got an ear full. All the other critters were quiet and I'm sure thinking Jeb was really stupid for pushing it.

I was outside with Bob telling him which ones to dig up when all of a sudden I told him the plants were not worth killing myself over. I was going back in the house and to the upstairs bedroom. Jeb was trying to tell me he was sorry but I told him to leave me alone!!!

Meanwhile, Melanie is running back and forth between Bob and I outside, she loves her Big Daddy more but is ever mindful of the fact that I'm the one who gives her the "good stuff" to eat. She wants to give me kisses, promises to slay dragons for me and will pen Jeb down if he ticks me off again, just give her a signal. She tattles on the other dogs, eats the "strays that came to stay" food and if they object she just gives them the "big dog" look.

Whew, the interaction between critters is amazing. Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Day. - Judy

"Blank ....", Tuesday - November 24, 2009 5:00 PM

I got up this morning and did a u-turn. I took my temperature and it was normal but there was definitely something wrong, cause I was shaking inside. I went back to bed and pulled the covers over my head. The next time I woke up feeling like I have been run over by a pickup truck, my temperature was 101 F. I again went back to bed and stayed there all day. Dang I just have a hard time shaking off "whatever" but I'll be OK. I promise. - Judy

"Doing The Bully Butt Wiggle", Monday - November 23, 2009 4:30 PM

There is a definite lesson to be learned from English Bulldogs, express yourself when you're happy, do your version of a Bully Butt Wiggle.

As of right now, I do not have fever, Thank The Good Lord. Today Bob and I faced medical issue dragons and came out on the winning end. What better results can one hope for. - Judy

"Queen of Sheba", Sunday - November 22, 2009 7:30 PM

I've been laying up in bed like the Queen of Sheba, trying to get well. I have some very important business to conduct this coming week so I was trying hard to have a clear head, without fever.

I finally gave up this afternoon, got out of bed and started cooking for my Big Bob. When I cook he's eating all the time, I bet he's lost 10 pounds these last couple of weeks. The critters were delighted to see me and started doing the Bully Butt Wiggle for something good to eat and of course they got it. The birds were squawking, the cats were rubbing themselves on the back door and the stays were bouncing on back legs.

It took me 45 minutes to get them all calmed down and fed. Then I started in cooking. Now I'm ready for any early bedtime. - Judy

"Slow Moving", Thursday - November 19, 2009 9:50 PM

Just wanted you all to know poor Bob is feeling horrible tonight, but I'm better. I slept all day trying to shake off whatever this is .... I should have been up helping him, but he insists he wants me well.

I got up long enough to fix us some dinner and be sure he was OK. He had taken care of all the critters, told me we are just about out of bird food to which I responded look in the freezer. Bird food seems to always have flying insect eggs in it so I freeze it to kill them. Blaze the Sun conure is crazy about peanuts in the shell and we're out so I put them on the list of things to buy on our next trip to the "big city".

I'm tanked up with meds and am going back to bed now. Be thankful for your "Good Health" this catching everything that comes along is not nice. - Judy

"Slow Progress But Better", Wednesday - November 18, 2009 7:40 PM

Today I thought about the people I have loved in this life, made me feel warm and cozy. Speaking of cozy, there was Cozy, the drunk (but he was so much more) ... as a little kid the family came home to our apartment to find him passed out cold in front of our door. My father told us to go on in the apartment and he would take care of things. I told him Cozy would do whatever I asked him to do, so just tell me what to say, so that's what we did. It was like Cozy couldn't hear Daddy but he could hear my voice as I implored him to wake up so Daddy could help him into his apartment. All ended well.

Hope your tomorrow is wonderful. - Judy

"Much Better Today", Tuesday - November 17, 2009 6:30 PM

Today was much like yesterday, but I'm getting better each day.

Do you ever have one of those times when suddenly it dawns upon you what a situation really was ... in prior years. I had that experience today. Lawdy I had to shake my head real hard, a family member has been vicious toward me and I couldn't figure out what her problem was. Today I remembered how vicious she was about a friend of hers who got a cat. She is allergic to cats and I have Mr Cat and Miss Kitty. Well in 4 years she came to visit twice, also she knew their mother, a feral cat, had them under the porch and the rest of the story. Now I realize she just came to visit so she would have a reaction and play "poor little me" with some of the other family members. Talk about a Drama Queen. Oh well, we reap what we sow ... but I hope she doesn't die because she got trapped in a building with cats.

"Better Today", Monday - November 16, 2009 7:00 PM

I'm much better today!!! I spent most of the day sleeping, due to the fever, but got up this afternoon and cooked dinner for Big Bob. I can't begin to describe the critter's reaction. The shy Miss Kitty was all over me when I went outside, of course she didn't want me to touch her, she wanted to do all the touching. She rubbed on my legs and rubbed on my legs. Mr. Cat rubbed on me and when I took a step he was there cutting me off .... he's going to be the death of me yet. I have no idea why he does that, unless he wants me to be still so he can rub on my legs. All the critters have an unexplainable thing about my ankles. You know how critters smell each other's behinds when they haven't seen them in awhile, well it's my ankles, they do not do Bob that way.

Tomorrow I'm sure will be better because I finally have my appetite back. My throat had been swollen and I just could not eat without gagging, but that has passed.

Enjoy each day like it was your last, because it might be. - Judy

"Telephone Unplugged", Sunday - November 15, 2009 4:30 PM

My temperature isn't as high so no more creepy puppet skeleton, Ackmed. I would have posted the YouTube link but the comic's routine is a bit over the line for my website, although when I had 103 F temp, it made me laugh out loud.

Hopefully, I'll be good as new in a couple of days and will be back to a normal routine. - Judy

"Newshound", Friday - November 13, 2009 Noon

I'm a newshound, but the headlines are so crazy today that I do not want to read the articles. "Man calls 911 for sex", etc. What kind of drugs was he on!!! He didn't call once he called 5 times. It was the only number he could call when he ran out of minutes on his cell phone.......

Poor Bob has whatever this is so it's contagious. We're going to sleep it off. - Judy

"Lawdy Bob Shows Signs of Getting Whatever This Is .. ", Thursday - November 12, 2009 5:30 PM

"For disturbance, sorry. Went for walk. Little black "unclean thing" started barking then the big white one started chasing me. They want my bones."

Ackmed, I thought you were a figment of my imagination? "Yes, but dogs want my bones."

Maybe not. I have been telling Bob we were having midnight visitors, the stray's food pan was empty every morning. They don't eat near the amount of food that we've been giving them lately. By the way, I saw those "down on the blacktop dogs" running up the drive but I didn't see you, Ackmed.

"Being 'dead' has advantages."

I'm going back to bed and hope I wake up in the morning without a high temp and will have lost Ackmed in the process. Then I'll only have to deal with the male dogs "down on the blacktop" coming up here to eat. - Judy

"Lawdy Bob Shows Signs of Getting Whatever This Is .. He is sneezing his behind off ", Thursday - November 12, 2009 2:30 PM

This is NOT the Swine Flu, we've already had that, at the first of the year. With this you just wake up one morning sneezing your behind off. Then your temp goes up in the middle of the night. Oh Lordy then you become best buds with someone like "Ackmed", do a Google on him. I keep telling him he is dead and he insists upon sniffing my ankles. He is convinced I'm one of his 72 virgins. I tell him ... I am not a virgin, ask Bob.

I demanded to know why he was bothering me and he responed by saying I'm the only one calling his name. I admit during the times when other people might be cussing, I'm yelling "Ackmed" but I had no idea what it meant or that I would conjour up "Ackmed the inept dead terrorist". - Judy

"Lawdy Have Mercy, The Critters Are Comin' Upstairs", Wednesday - November 11, 2009 5:00 PM

The citters are jumping the kiddy gate and coming upstairs. lol lol I'm feverish to the 9th degee so you can just imagine being woken up by Mr Cat pulling the cover off my face and staring at me. OK you want some food. There is a very large bag in the utility room which you must have passed, it's open, so why in the world are you up here breathing on me!! ........ I thought you might be dead, was the reply. .... Mr Cat leave me alone, I'm sick. - Judy

"Keep Your Behind In Bed!!! LOL LOL", Tuesday - November 10, 2009 6:00 PM

Dang, Melanie wanted to come upstairs and into the bed with me. She was on her way up the stairs, with Jerry Lee following, when I said "No Girl" she turned around and went back down. Jerry Lee didn't know what to think but he followed the "big girl". Petunia was ticked at Jeb because he had the audacity to look at her beef rib bone and then things went south from there. Jeepers, the critters were outside all morning, then Bob brought them back inside. I'm telling you, if I'm not down there amongst them they just do not know how to act. I think they feel insecure.

We have some big issues happening, but I'm here to tell you they are going to have to wait until I get over whatever this is that's got me down. I think I'm allergic to people .... lol - Judy

"She's On One!!!", Monday - November 9, 2009 4:30 PM

If a politician lies about what they will do, it should be a crime and they deserves jail time ... NY 23

Oh me, I woke up in the middle of the night with a 102 temp. I promise I haven't lied about anything but "sure as shooting" I'm having a hard time. I think I'd take jail time over "fever time". lol As you can see I haven't lost my sense of humor, which I never claimed to have to begin with.

Many of the leaves have fallen off the trees and those which are still clinging are beautiful. The colors are from yellow to a deep red. I've got to get off my backside and blow them into the flower beds. They are such good compost. If your neighbors have bagged them up for trash pickup, snatch them when no one is looking. All you have to do is punch a few holes in the bag and come Spring you'll have rich compost for your beds. What tickles me is people who have more money than sense pay someone to rake and bag the leaves, then they buy compost come Spring. Here we blow them into a pile, toss $1 bag of top soil on them and the "strays" that came to stay love to make the pile their daytime bed during the winter. Nail some 2x6 boards together to frame the pile and you have the "starting" of a raised bed. Now, how cool is that!!!

Be safe, be honest, be what you want others to be and you'll be blessed. - Judy

"Play It Again Judy", Saturday - November 7, 2009 10:30 AM

'Our Gang Stories' .... early on I knew Mr Cat was going to be a handful. lol lol

Several years ago.....
Up and going at 4:30 AM, I had fed and walked dogs, fed the cats and was busy getting puppy food ready at 5:00 AM, when I heard a vehicle horn blowing anxiously. Fear immediately engulfed me. Thoughts of it being one of my parents in an emergency situation made the hair stand up on my arms. I flipped on the back porch light to signal to whoever was in such great need that I was aware that they were there and on my way. The horn stopped! Looking out the back window, I was UNABLE to see a vehicle other than our own. Then I realized that it sounded just like my van horn and since there were no other vehicles, it had to be.

Of course, someone was stranded with car trouble and seeing all the lights at our house had come for assistance and Angel, My Guardian Angel, had gotten after them so they had jumped into the safety of my van. Or maybe it was someone with evil intent. I ran into the bedroom and told Bob to wake up and put on some clothes because someone was in my van blowing the horn. I ran to the backdoor of the house. I looked out and noticed Angel and Boomerang, by the van driver's door. The hair was not standing up on her back like it does when she's "after something". I then decided, whoever was in the van was afraid of the dogs so I called them to me and together we walked back out to the van. Sitting in the driver's seat was "someone's thrown away cat" who lives under the porch but will not allow anyone to get within 5 ft of him. Then I noticed a moth on the windshield. The cat had evidently been jumping on the steering wheel (horn) attempting to catch the moth. Bob arrived, adrenaline pumping, just in time to see the cat (Mr Cat) bolt from the car.

This is the story of my "Angel"

Warning: It is a Tear Jerker

Date: 8/9/99 (Also the date of the pictures)

A few months ago, I found a female shepherd mix down by our pond and it was evident that someone had dropped her off and drowned her pups. It took me four days to get her to trust me enough to come up to the house. We named her Angel -- short for Guardian Angel. She won our hearts by following me everywhere. When I leave in my van, she follows me to the end of the drive and waits, no matter how long, until I return. It's reassuring late at night, in our isolated country setting, to see the shine of those "Angel Eyes" waiting for me.

Angel went in for her "spaying" and when I went to pick her up 24 hours later the Vet would not release her because she had not recovered as expected. I drove the 30 miles home with an occasional tear falling down my cheek. On the second day after her operation, I brought her home but it was obvious to me that she had either been in a fight or had really hurt herself attempting to escape, her back right hind quarter had 3 lacerations.

At 4:00 AM the next morning she woke me up with a "help me" bark. I got up turned on all the lights and began calling her. She finally appeared and I tried to get her to come into the house but she would not. Although she loves and protects me, she didn't trust me enough to be confined. Again, I screamed like a crazy woman at the stray male dog (Boomer) that I could only assume was bothering her. Unable to get the 70-pound dog in the van, I went to the Vet's office and obtained medication and instructions on treating her.

The following day Angel's leg was badly swollen and she was having great difficulty walking. Yet when I made my daily trip to my Mother's, she was down at the bottom of the drive to meet me when I returned. She had to drag herself the 100 yards back to the house. I used the porch swing cushion to make her a bed on the back porch and hand fed her. After her tremendous effort to continue to be the Guardian Angel, she was having trouble standing to eat.

Bob was working in Nashville during the week coming home for the weekends. Saturday morning he removed the bandages. We were both afraid she was going to die or at minimum loose her leg. He loaded her in the van for the trip to the Vet's. [Note: It was actually a rare allergic reaction to the medication used during the operation.]

When Angel died the later part of 2003, with her she took a piece of my heart, tears are rolling as I post this story. The reason I post it is to make this point:

Animals, like people, need an environment which allows them to be wonderful!

Angle was someone's "throw away, but priceless to me".

Get a grip PELOSI!!! lol lol lol The Feds have no idea what the real world is all about. It's predicted that a basic family policy will cost $15,000 in 2016. If families do not have health coverage (i.e. health insurance) the following applies:

“Criminal penalties

Prosecution is authorized under the Code for a variety of offenses. Depending on the level of the noncompliance, the following penalties could apply to an individual:

• Section 7203 – misdemeanor willful failure to pay is punishable by a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.

• Section 7201 – felony willful evasion is punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment of up to five years.”

"Lawdy!!", Friday - November 6, 2009 10:30 AM

400 Pot Plants Found in MN Raid ... every time I read something like this, my first question is what did they use for fertilizer. My Angel Trumpets could sure use a dose. I have two little grow lights which burn 24x7 in the living room where most of the inside plants reside. I can't imagine the electricity bill for those big time grow lights needed for this type of operation. A quick check with the utility company would highlight growers, unless they are illegally hooked up to electricity, which would be sure to get them caught quicker. Don't tick off the utility company!! lol lol

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. - Judy

"Play It Again Judy!!", Thursday - November 5, 2009 3:40 PM

A person called yesterday to say they had seen the below pictures and thought they were the best ever so I'm posting them here again for your viewing pleasure. - Judy

Saturday - 08/13/05 5:30 PM
Just so happened I had my camera in hand as I was taking pictures of blooms while out with Miss Bessie on a potty break. Poor Mr Cat wasn't doing anything but taking his afternoon nap, when Bessie spotted him. They were so funny together that I started taking pictures of their interaction. I hope the pictures make you smile!!! - Judy

Bessie discovered Mr Cat taking a nap.. Mr Cat are you alive.. He's not moving .. Hey, Mr Cat!!! .. Boy you had me scared!!! Lick... Lick Well... Now ... We're Friends Forever ...

"Working On Plants - Critters Can't Stand It!!", Wednesday - November 4, 2009 3:30 PM

I still have not brought in the Angel Trumpets!!! BUT I have trimmed them up, labeled them, identified the ones to be dug up, ones to be given away, those to be chopped up to sent half way across the USA and others which are going in my compost pile, hopefully to sprout anew next spring.

The critters are so jealous they are driving me crazy ... the cats were darting in front of me when I walk, the English Bulldogs wanted to be outside with me, the "strays" come running each time I come back out of the house because they are sure I'm about to give them something "good" to eat and even the birds are getting in on the commotion. Angel Trumpet decisions are enough stress without all the critters trying to get in on the act. lol lol

Jeb just wants to go out with me and sit in the sun, so he's my garden pal for now. Also him being there stopped Mr Cat from darting in front of me. Mr Cat thinks Jeb is "loco kinko" cause he tried to breed him. Of course Jeb was "fixed" many years ago but one of the girls was in heat so he got real confused. I'm heading back out, just wanted you to know all is well here. - Judy

"Lawdy What A Commotion", Sunday - November 1, 2009 8:15 PM

The "strays that came to stay" ran barking down the drive and onto the gravel road that ends at our drive. Then the Great Pyrenees that is running loose down on the blacktop started barking or maybe it was the other way around. At any rate all the dogs in the neighborhood were barking with the exception of the English Bulldogs. Then Boomer let out a squeal, like he was dying. The Bullies went crazy wanting to go to the rescue. That would be ALL that situation needed. Bob went downstairs to call and catch the "strays" kitty, kitty, kitty will do it every time. They don't want the cats getting any "good food" without them getting their fair share.

Once back at home, I heard Fluffy ask Boomer why he screamed, he said that big dog was coming at him fast, so he flipped over on his back and started screaming he was an "endangered species". Fluffy looked at him and said "what??". Shyly Boomer explained, well I'm one of a kind and I thought he was going to kill me.

Bob was successful in locking Dumpy and Fluffy in their dens, but that sly old fox Boomer stayed just out of arms reach and stared at him. If I had gone out Boom would have come to me, but I was already curled up in bed reading a book. lol lol Remember Boomer is the one who came home not once, but twice, STONED!! - Judy

Several years ago....

Boomer who is a Beagle mix, was on the back porch when I went out to feed and water the outside critters. He got up to greet me BUT he was wobbling like he was addled. Sure that he had been hit by a car or one of the crazy deer he chases, I scooped him up and yelled for Bob to come see what was wrong. I couldn't examine him while holding him in my arms. Bob said his eyes were dilated and his best guess is he was either drunk or stoned, which put my emotions into turmoil.

I locked Boomer in a crate and he was just fine the next morning

Two days later he was lying out in the driveway in the pouring rain. He wouldn't come to me when I called him, so I rushed inside and hollered for Bob to come quickly. While Bob was on the way, I went out in the rain and picked up Boomer and brought him onto the back porch. When Bob got there I started babbling again about Boomer being addled by an accident, poison or whatever. Again Bob said he's either drunk or on drugs. Look at that goofy expression and those big eyes. I put him down; he ran back out in the rain and did a crazy dance standing on his back legs, looked like the world famous 'Australian Frilled Neck Lizard dance'

Two weeks later the Sheriff located and burned a pot field not 2 miles from the house. We refer to Boomer as the "Pothead" and would offer his services to law enforcement, but we're afraid he would eat the evidence. lol lol

Boomer picture was taken about the time of his 'pot' adventure...

"Time To .....", Sunday - November 1, 2009 1:15 PM

Well I was so tired I yelled at Jeb to get his sorry behind in the house ... if I yell it normally means I have a higher than normal temperature so I took a reading and I did. Therefore I changed my plans, the Angel Trumpets will have to wait another day. The low temperature for tonight is predicted to be 36° F, I hope it doesn't go lower. BUT Tuesday night it is predicted to drop to 31° F. too cold for the Trumpets, Angel or Devil.

Mildred if you are reading this, you are welcome to come over tomorrow after you get off work to take cuttings. Hopefully, I will have gotten most of what I want by then. Leftovers can go in my compost pile and I'll cover them with mulch. They should start sprouting late May or early June and bloom in September. Only some of the original and lesser hybridized Angels can survive our winters here in zone 7. It's always chancy so if you are going to leave you Angels in the ground be sure to take cuttings to root as a backup. Devil trumpets will not survive our winters but grow quickly from seeds. These should be started inside March/April. - Judy

PS Any Angel's Trumpets left outside to winter-over should have the canes cut down to the ground, covered with mulch at least and preferably covered with a solid container of some type with a weight to hold it down in case of high winds.

"Time To .....", Sunday - November 1, 2009 9:00 AM

Dig up tender Angel Trumpet plants, take cuttings from others and mulch the plants left in the ground to overwinter. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!!!!! I had this Angel Trumpet in 2005-6 but somewhere along the way I either accidentally gave it away or lost it during the winter. I'm determined to get another but I'll probably wait until spring.

Also it's time to either cook Holiday Fruitcakes or at least start planning out when and how you are going to cook and age them. I don't do this as a general rule but Bob wants me to make at least one for him to age using Rum. I don't like liquor in my food, regardless of what kind of food so I'll not be even tasting it. Here is a good website with recipes for three different style Fruitcakes. I found it to be of interest so maybe you will also.

Three Holiday Fruitcake Recipes

My problem with Fruitcakes is I don't like candied fruit, but I do like a "dried fruit cake", a totally different taste.

Best Fruitcake Ever

1 lb butter
2 cups granulated sugar
8 eggs, well beaten
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup buttermilk (or sour milk)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup dark molasses
2 teaspoons vanilla

2 lbs walnuts or pecans
1 lb chopped prunes
1 lb golden raisins
1 lb raisins seedless
1 cup red current jelly
1 16 oz can of Cherries Jubilee
1 12 oz can Apricot Solo Pastry filling
1 12 oz can Almond Solo Pastry filling
1 12 oz can Date Solo Pastry filling

1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon water

7 cups plain flour

In order presented, mix the top 8 ingredients with a mixer, add one ingredient at a time.

In a very large container, mix in the next 9 ingredients.

Then add soda dissolved in water and gently mix in flour, only enough to blend.

Pour into 5-6 loaf pans. Bake at 325 for 1 1/2 hours, or until done. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then remove and cool completely.

I don't like alcohol on my fruitcake but many people do therefore....

Optional: Place each loaf upside down on woven towel (not terrycloth). Pour about 1/2 cup brandy (or rum) over each loaf, until thoroughly soaked. Wrap the towel around the cake, then add more brandy until the cloth is saturated.

(Wrap completely in aluminum foil to prevent making a sticky mess in the cupboard. Store in dark, cool place at least 8 weeks, adding more brandy every week.) I did not try this part.

This is a Judy adaption of a 1820's recipe.

I'm off to feed the critters and get busy with the Angel Trumpets. I hope you are having a good weekend. - Judy

"Japanese Morning Glory & Hosta Seeds Popping", Saturday - October 31, 2009 1:30 PM

If you live in my area, hurry and collect seeds before the next big wind. I was late planting my Japanese Morning Glories so my pods may have been late in ripening. Hosta seed development varies so it might be too late for some or too early for others. Mine are just right to be collected, the pods have opened and the seeds are BLACK. For more information go here
Growing Hosta From Seed

Here is a picture of the "green" seed pods.

PS Check your Cannas for seeds also. If you didn't collect any as they ripened during the summer, you'll probably find some on the ground if you look around. ALSO most people don't collect seeds from their own yard, therefore if your neighbors or friends have any of the above you might want to ask if you can collect seeds. I've asked businesses if I could have cuttings or collect seeds and everyone has accommodated me. I know people who would sneak and do it but that's not my style.

"Seeds Popping", Friday - October 30, 2009 6:30 PM

It has rained so much that the Devil's Trumpet seed pods are swelling up and popping open, instead of drying out and popping open. I don't think they will be viable, too immature, but I decided to save them anyway, we'll see.

We've been working hard all day. One of the main projects was cleaning the bird cages and giving them a misting. The Sun Conure hates to have a drop of water on her but the Cockatiels love it. They stretch their body out and hold up their wings. They talk to me between mistings, like do it again!!

It's raining now and has been all afternoon. Some thunder storms are headed directly toward us that have 64 MPH winds. Gracious!! We still have to walk the English Bulldogs but most will not go out in the rain to take care of their business. Earlier this afternoon I had Ruckus out and told him to "go off the porch", he decided to tinkle on the porch instead. When I told him "no" he just looked at me like I was crazy if I expected him to go out in the rain just to tinkle. I was using the water hose on the bird cages so I suppose he thought a little more water wasn't going to hurt the porch, because he came over to the area where I was using the hose and had gotten the porch wet already. lol lol

Well I'm off to walk the dogs, fix a little supper, then most likely go to bed early. - Judy

"Back Working", Thursday - October 29, 2009 8:00 PM

Ya'll I have been called constantly about one of my neighbors, people wanting information and saying they are a collection agency. I refuse to get involved. It is not my business, plus I don't know their "business" and I've told them so. All they do is get another person in the company to call me later in the day ... so I unplugged my telephone for two days. Today there were no calls. I hope this is the end of the harassment. It's against the law to harass a person who owes the money, but I suppose their neighbors aren't included in the law!!!! This same thing happened about a year ago and I ended up threatening to sue two companies. They lied to me saying the neighbor had listed me as a person to contact. I don't know them, except to say "Hello" so I knew it was a lie.

Oh well I'm better today, best I can figure, it was the tomato soup I ate that caused gout, which in turn caused my bursa sac to swell so bad. Isn't this the craziest thing you ever heard. I worked myself silly today trying to catch up on some of the chores, but it seemed as if most were impacted by a complication. I made a list of needed items and Bob went to the grocery in Corinth for me. I'm all set to start back working in the morning.

Take care and have a good night. - Judy

Different Type Blooms All Pink, Blooming Now!!!

"Life", Wednesday - October 28, 2009 8:00 PM

I'm a firm believer in ..... Sometime life just is not what you want it to be, maybe it took a wrong turn you couldn't control, or maybe you made a wrong decision ... well you just have to get over it. Take a big leap over the hard-times and look ahead to the possibilities of tomorrow.

This silly brat is dragging herself up the ladder of life, hands firmly clamped upon the seat of my pants. This too is to be overcome and I'll do it. Some years back, the doctor said this up and down swelling burning/hurting lump on the inside of my elbow "is a ruptured of the bursa .. I know it hurts BUT to remove it will leave an ugly scar and there will be a long healing process of muscles and nerves, etc. , therefore put up with it as long as you can".

I looked on the internet for current information ...... I have to absorb it all. Right now I'm having a hard time helping with the critters, much less typing. - Judy

"Plant Pictures", Sunday - October 25, 2009 5:00 PM

My computer is back up and running so expect to see postings soon. I hope you are having a good weekend.- Judy

"Plant Pictures", Sunday - October 18, 2009 7:00 PM

LARGE Tree Philodendron
I asked Bob to stand beside one so you could judge how big they are, he's a little over 6 ft and the pots are on a platform about 2 ft tall.

Other plants still blooming

"We're Exhausted", Saturday - October 17, 2009 8:00 PM

Up at 5 AM to take care of the critters, then off to Bolivar, TN to video the "Friends of Hardeman County Animal Control" they were having their big "March of Dogs" event to make people aware of unwanted animals and to raise money to pay for having the dog and cat rescues spayed or neutered, plus other medical expenses they encounter.

We had to pickup some supplies also so it was 3 PM by the time we got home, with two cameras full of videos to be loaded to Bob's computer, edited and then uploaded to their website. Bob took most of the critter duty, while I tugged on pots of plants and decided where to put what. There just isn't any more room but .... I suggested giving them away and he said "NO" he would find a place. Three of them are tree philodendron (split leaf) which are about 5 ft tall and 5 ft across. I didn't even think about attempting to move them tonight, I'm crossing my fingers hopeful that it doesn't freeze. Also there are 4 GIANT ferns that so very beautiful. Two are in 20 gallon pots and are about 3 ft x 3 ft, if not bigger. I bet after tomorrow he's going to vote to give them away, but who would have room for such big plants .... maybe a motel or hotel. lol For tonight I loaded them in my little yellow wagon and Bob put them in the covered dog run, which is really a greenhouse frame covered in several layers of clear plastic and then a layer of sun reflecting tarps on top. It's too big to heat for winter storage of plants, plus the mice invade it if there are plants, build nests in the soil. The critters are only out there during the day for exercise but we sure don't want mice in their space!!!

Videos will be uploaded tomorrow, I hope. - Judy

"Tender House Plants", Friday - October 16, 2009 6:45 PM

We moved all tender house plants into the house this afternoon, Oh Mercy, what a task. I only have 3 more to move inside and hopefully they will make it through tonight. The ground is just too wet to use the 2 wheeler to bring them in and they are too BIG and heavy to carry. The forecast is:
Tonight Low 41° F
Saturday High 54° F low 36° F
Sunday High 54° F low 36° F
Monday High 58° F Low 34°
so the Angel's Trumpets should be OK for a few more days, but I got a feeling we're going to have a sneaky frost so I'll work on them tomorrow.

I did so hate to move in all those plants, I get claustrophobic. A few days ago, I told Bob this is it and started giving them away. Good thing cause I couldn't stand more in the house than I have now. I've taken pictures of the living room and I'll post those tomorrow so you'll see what I mean. lol lol Bob kept breaking limbs so I yelled "you know I can't throw them away, I have to root them, so that's another plant!!! I don't want any more plants." He just laughs and says "you'll find it a good home".

Have a good weekend!!! - Judy

"Poor Ruckus", Friday - October 16, 2009 1:30 PM

Keep in mind Ruckus is blind in one eye so ... He was outside on potty break when the wind kicked up, causing the acorns to fall from the BIG oak trees. They were pelting him, he kept jumping, lifting his front legs off the ground as he slung his head around looking to see if I was throwing things at him or if another person was. Finally he decided he didn't care who was doing what, he just wanted back in the house. He came charging toward me rammed his lower jaw, which protrudes, into my leg like, "let's go, hurry Mom, something is wrong".

Crazy critters .... Judy

"Dog Flu", Thursday - October 15, 2009 4:50 PM

Oh My!!! I'm determined by Saturday to give this house the Spring Cleaning it didn't get, because Sunday it's suppose to get down to 36 F which means I've got to bring in the plants. Also I have to treat all the plants with a systemic insecticide so whatever critters are in the soil and on the plants will be killed, plus I've got plans to make a "hutch" for some of the Angel Trumpets to over-winter on the front porch.

Bob delivered supplies to Mildred this afternoon so she could start cutting down her Angel Trumpets ... surveyor's tape to write the name of the Angel when she cuts it, plus other labels and two African Violets I got for her "on sale", one of which they gave to me because they didn't think it would live. I also sent her Mother a BIG Dragonwing Begonia because she admired it. I endeavor to make people happy if possible, after all isn't that what you would want someone to do for you.

Whew, it's been a long day. When I told Big Daddy I was headed for a big glass of wine and a plop on the matress, asking if he wanted to join me, he said "Honey it's only 6 PM". Well dang I've done enough for one day and that's where I'm headed. - Judy

PS The fever is from the arthritis. Mildred, don't forget to get me cuttings of the yellow Angel's Trumpet from the father of your hairdresser's yard!!!!! Also I would like a start of your Ginger.

Dog Flu

"Now I Know", Tuesday - October 13, 2009 7:50 PM

Lawdy, what a "Chatch 22" I'm in. I can't take anything for pain relief, but wine. Any pain medication, over the counter or prescription, sets up in my intestines like concrete or I upchuck. Hard liquior doesn't faze the pain nor does beer. So when I'm smacked down with this joint pain, I sip wine to endure it. NOW PLEASE REMEMBER, this is the same woman who went through the removal of the lower lobe of her left lung, due to a cancerous tumor, WITHOUT pain medicine afterward because of this problem.

Now I learn that the wine is a definite contributor .... oh my what am I to do. More later. - Judy

"War What's It Good For", Monday - October 12, 2009 11:00 AM

Seems to me the possible answer to destroying the Taliban and al-Qaida militants is for America, Russia, Japan, China and other countries to unite and approach the problem using their elite strike forces. I do believe the best of the best can resolve the militant problem the world is facing. The militants battle with the USA is only step one, their plan is to take over the world.

"Up At 5 AM To Gather Up Chugs, Plants/Cuttings & Stuff", Sunday - October 11, 2009 12:30 PM

I didn't sleep at all last night. Like a fool I ate two tiny Krystal burgers which don't normally trigger severe joint pains. When am I ever going to learn NO BEEF!!! Nevertheless, I pulled my sorry self out of bed at 5 AM to make sure I loaded the van with everything needed for Chugs return home, plus plants. It didn't get light until almost 7 AM, just about the time we were scheduled to "hit the road" for our 9 AM meeting, but I was slipping and sliding in the flooded garden, still hacking away at the Angel's Trumpets for Chugs' Mama. Turned out there wasn't room for but a few so I'll send the leftovers out to other people tomorrow via USPS. Ya'll please ship USPS, we're going to have to bail them out anyway so you might as well support them with funds you were planning on spending to ship items.

I'm now ready to crawl back in bed for a long nap, actually I hope I don't wake up until around 6 AM Monday morning. For whatever reason I still have an elevated temperature, hopefully a long sleep and a dose of antibiotics will help.

I was going crazy trying to figure out why there was so much "dirt" in the house, stupid me the man who owns the property next door did a lot of bulldozing, etc. which set the dirt to swirling, then our attic fan pulled it into the house. I had been blaming poor Melanie.

I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. - Judy

"Still Without Hot Water", Saturday - October 10, 2009 9:00 PM

Well we went to town and got the necessary equipment to change out the heating elements in the water heater. Bob installed the thermostat but that didn't fix the problem. New water hose to drain the tank because all the ones outside are nasty due to the horrible amount of rain we've had. Also we needed a special tool to remove the old elements and install the new ones. Pea gravel was a must to fill in some of the muddy tracks made by the critters during the heavy rains. I can't walk through them, I'm afraid I'll fall again. Creeks and rivers are out of their banks, low lands are flooded and there are sucky sounds of our feet trying to walk in the mud.

By now you all know I have to stop at all the main stores, I buy my eggs at one grocery, milk and cream at another, etc. Therefore when we need a quick trip, Bob goes by himself, he's very efficient. Give him a list and he'll be gone a quarter of the time it takes if I'm along. lol lol

When using a homemade pesticide or Earth elements such as diatomaceous earth (DE), boric acid (roaches, ants), baby powder (ants) or chalk (suppose to keep ants out of the house if applied properly) be sure to use them wisely. Caution should be taken where children and pets are concerned.

Diatomaceous Earth - "Kills Ants, Fleas, Ticks, Cockroaches, Earwigs, Slugs, Beetles, Flies, Silverfish, Bed Bugs and many other pests, naturally, without harsh synthetic chemicals!" Check out the instructions at www.dirtworks.net You can also order from them.

If you want to use "DE" for killing garden pests Wal-Mart normally has it in stock, but if you are going to feed it to pets or livestock, it must be food grade and you can order it from DirtWorks or pay less by ordering from www.ghorganics.com/Diatomaceous Earth.html ** Warning it will also kill beneficial insects so be careful when using.

I'll add more information on insect control in the next few days, right now I'm off to bed. - Judy

"Here Comes The Rain", Friday - October 9, 2009 10:00 AM

There is squall line from Louisiana to Missouri, due to pass through our area. There are "flash flood" warnings posted on the weather stations and it looks as if we are in for one doozy of a time weather wise. What crazy winds we are already experiencing, clashing from different directions, almost like the swirl of a tornado, just not as strong.

"Chuggs", Thursday - October 8, 2009 8:00 PM

Although I would like to keep her for a couple of more weeks, Chuggs is going home to her Mama this weekend. Gail called and told me she wanted to come get her. I hope none of the postings I've made upset her. Chuggs is a good girl but she has Jazzman's show ring posture which the other critters interpret as "here I am and if you don't like it we can tumble". That is what set her mother off, plus her mother is in heat which is always a testy time with Bullies.

Out of the last 24 hours I've slept probably 16 hours. I don't know why I have an elevated temperature but I'm determined to get past this .... lots of sleep, lots of vitamin C, lots of liquid, etc. I got up long enough to cook breakfast, wash dishes, wash dog beds and help walk the critters. That was it, pow back to bed.

Life should be enjoyed, if you are not enjoying your life, change it!!! - Judy

"Ruckus", Wednesday - October 7, 2009 7:00 PM

Chuggs loves Ruckus and he is enamored with her, only problem is he's a big chunk and I don't want him hurting her, so they have had very little time together. Ruckus loves everybody and every other critter but he is one hunky floppy male.

Jeb went out into the woods today and just sat down. When I called to him, he wouldn't come, just sat there. He is so very odd. I went out to where he was and told him to get his behind in the house and immediately he scampered for the back door. He likes Chuggs but he is under the delusion that he's a "stud", even to the point of trying to breed Mr. Cat so he can't be turned loose with her. He is 6 years old and was neutered at a year old so I can't imagine why he keeps thinking he's Mr Stud.

The Angel's Trumpet video has only been posted for a day and already 45 people have viewed it. I think that's great. If only they could see them in person and smell that wonderful frangrace.

For whatever reason, I've got a higher than normal temperature and the critters have run me ragged today with their demands, so I'm going to bed early, early, trying to sleep this fever away. Have fun, smile, joke and be at ease with yourself. Forgive youself for what you did wrong yesterday, it's what you do today and tomorrow that matters. - Judy

"Melanie", Tuesday - October 6, 2009 9:00 PM

Melanie is so much better, she isn't yelping out like she was. We've made it a point to make her "sit" and wait for the back door to be fully opened before she bolts. She's a good, good girl.

Chuggs isn't limping but that is because I started her back on prednisone. My plan is to give it to her for 3 days then tapper off with an every other day dose for a week or so then none.

Ruckus has an upset tummy and some of the others loose stools so the bag of Purina Puppy Chow was replaced with another. The "strays that came to stay" have iron tummies so they will finish it off. In 20 something years we've encountered this type of situation before with Purina, don't know why and suspect they would greatly appreciate me notifying them. I've done it before and they have been very gracious, asking for samples from the bag and sending me coupons for a replacement, but they didn't inform me of their findings so I'm not doing that again. Purina products are very good, just occasionally we get a bag that upsets tummies. To my knowledge Purina has never had a recall on their dry dog food, most other companies have had recalls due to serious problems.

Bob ordered parts for the water heater today to be delivered Priority USPS. lol lol I suggested he order two parts that it could be, no way to check one of them so we're just going to change out parts until the problem is resolved. If truth be known that's what most appliance repair people do. It could be x,y or z so they start changing them out until the problem is resolved.

The washing machine is working like it should be ... I would still like to know the origin of the problem but taking it apart then resembling it seems to have fixed whatever it was.

I hope ya'll like the video of the Angel's Trumpets (Brugmansia). I don't know why I haven't taken videos of the plants before now. I suppose I just can't think of everything. Keep a smile on your face, it will confuse everyone. - Judy

"Chuggs", Monday - October 5, 2009 9:00 PM

Well almost back to square #1 with Chuggs. I guess I'm going to have to tranquilizer her so she doesn't re-injure her leg. She's gotten too big for her britches, pulling on the lead wanting to chase the cats and strays that have come to stay. Today she got in her Mama Petunia's face which was the wrong thing to do. Tunie is a wonderful laid back bully half the size of Chuggs, but she doesn't take kindly to an unknown critter getting in her face. It doesn't matter that Chuggs is one of hers, she hasn't been here all the time so she's now a stranger. So Tunie getting upset, set all the critters on edge. Lawdy I thought we were going to have a dog fight. Cherry Cookie went to the defense of Tunie and I started doing the Demon From Downunder Thunder. Bob had Chuggs on a lead and she was pushing off with her back legs with all her might. Afterward she walked with a limp on that back leg. Dang!!! All our hard work gone to zero cause she's wanting to get in the face of some of the other critters. Maybe I should just let one of them teach her a lesson or two on manners. When I said that out loud I had several volunteers. lol lol Lawdy I was afraid a strange dog in our midst would cause a problem and it has. Good thing the male rescue has been placed, at least he is not a complication.

Say Goodnight, Gracie!!! - Judy

"Melanie", Sunday - October 4, 2009 5:30 PM

A video of her walking and running shows no impaired gait, therefore I've come to the conclusion she bruised her shoulder bolting through the back door before we can get it fully open. If this is the case, she'll be better in just a few days. Think how tender bruises are when you get one, well she's extra sensitive so that's why she yelps.

It's time to move her to the outside covered dog run for overnight, allowing her to patrol and accompany Bob during the day, or teach her not to bolt, for her own good. If in her anxiety to get outside she won't pay attention to my firm "no's, then all it should take would be a bowl of cold water being thrown in her face as I go into my Demon From Downunder Thunder "NO", as she bolts from the door. I always try to train without the "Thunder", if possible. Bob just allows all the critters to do as they wish .... wrong thing to do for a thousand different reasons and situations that might occur!!!! - Judy

Angel's Trumpet (Brugmansia)-

Rosamond Seedling, Looks Just Like Her Mama

Bob swears the reason this Angel's Trumpet has far more blooms than all the others is because I feed it garbage ..... all non-greasy kitchen scraps including but not limited to egg shells, peelings of all kinds, overripe vegetables and fruits, used tissues, used paper towels, shredded paper products (junk mail, light cardboard packaging, etc.) and occasional puppy poop. I keep a "round compost dish pan" on top of my trash can and empty it daily. Occasionally, I cover the unsightly compost pile with $1.19 "top soil" sold in a bag at Lowe's.

Day Dreams, Double Pink

Bob and I took the washing machine partially apart didn't find anything wrong, put it back together and it seems to be working fine. Oh Lawdy, that's not fair I want to know why it was "acting a fool".

We've been troubleshooting the water heater but again are having trouble identifying a problem. Although volt meter reads appear to be just fine, I'm betting it's the thermostat. Wouldn't you know that this silly thing's warranty is up in 6 months, meanwhile we still don't have hot water. Heating water on the stove to wash dishes is one thing, but not being able to take a shower is another. I'll opt for a cold shower if the problem isn't resolved tomorrow, but Bob would not be able to tolerate a cold shower!!!

Gail, Chubbs had projectile diarrhea today. I gave her an as much as would stay on a tablespoon of pumpkin. She took a little lick, looked up at me as if to say "I need a little molasses", but ate it anyway. She hasn't had anything but her Purina Puppy Chow to eat so I don't know why she had an upset tummy. She's had a small nickle size skin lesion on her forehead. Bob put medication on it, then the next day not knowing what he had done, I dabbed it with Listerine. It dried up and the hair grew back. It was the type of lesion she might get from scraping her head on the top of her crate, so I'm not concerned about it. She probably got anxious to go out when we were doing our morning walk of the critters. When she starts barking for "human food" I tell her "NO" and she is quick to respond with her own "NO". I'd say she's a sassy thing!!! Maybe we should call her Sassy Chuggs. She walks just fine ... the only time I can see a difference in her legs is when she squats to tinkle, then the right one is just a little off. - Judy

"Murphy's Law, that which can go wrong does", Saturday - October 3, 2009 9:00 PM

Poor, poor Melanie (rescue German Shepard), she's in pain from her shoulder. She is so different from an English Bulldog which have a high pain threshold. She's yelping whenever her shoulder is touched, she forgets and squeezes through the door before I have it fully open, or forgets and lays on it. I've given her a prednisone, crated her except for potty breaks and am hopeful she will be better by Monday, if not to the vet she goes for x-rays. She is a wonderful baby and it just hurts my heart when she yelps out in pain!!!

I suspect one of these "chunks of lead" bullies butted into her, but she's always trying to "herd them" which is not a wise thing for her to do.

I hope you are enjoying your weekend. It's chilly here and my Angel Trumpets are loaded with blooms, the fragrance is brought into the house via the whole house attic fan and it is wonderful, most of them smell like a mixture of musk and baby powder.

Things going wrong, besides Melanie, we have no hot water and the washing machine is making a crazy noise. Bob is expecting me to trouble shoot all three issues. He said cause I'm good at it. lol lol

The Darkside Of Owning A Cute Little Monkey

Lawdy most people don't know how to raise children or domestic animals without them becoming vicious, so it's no wonder wild critters get out of control. To be honest if it were up to me I would ban importation, raising and selling of all wild critters.

Years ago I had a friend who owned a larger monkey, which species I do not know ... she was very strict with it and it was wonderful, but we've lost touch so I don't know if he "turned against" her or not. He loved to simply walk into a neighbor's house, take a shower with baking flour, hug up another neighbor's dog, etc. His favorite trick was to escape, climb a tree and squeal like he was afraid to come down. Unexpected people walking by, she lived near a college campus, would hurriedly call the fire department to get him out of the tree. At first they would come out with a hook and ladder, the fool monkey would hug up the fireman like he was a long lost friend and give kisses, but it didn't take long for the fire department to start giving out the owners telephone number to the person calling.

Y'all, I can handle just so much .... I found my cup runneth over. I decided the male rescue was missing his male owner and hadn't gotten any attention since he died, probably just kept in a crate. You would not believe the emotional impact on some dogs if there is a really strong bond with their owner and they are separated. I also believe they can sense sickness and death. So Jacko was placed with a big, big truck driving man who wanted a companion for home and road trips plus a guard-dog, if possible. There was an immediate bonding so it's going to work out just fine. I demostrated my "Rebel Yell/Demon From Downunder Thunder" just in case it was needed.

Have a good weekend and remember to hug those you love. - Judy

PS Check this out, ex-president was attacked by his Maltese

Chirac gives away 'violent' dog

I'd like to place a bet that Chirac wasn't home much, so this Maltese, was leary of him being around "his Mama". A stranger woke him up and he attacked thinking his Mama was in danger. Maltese are extremely intellegent loving protective dogs. Several years ago, I cared for a litter of 6 and potty trained all 6 in a week, for a local breeder who had bypass surgery. Not my kind of dog but the violent/attack thing is not typical of the breed.

"Angel's Trumpet Blooms", Thursday - October 1, 2009 9:00 PM

We've had a little cold snap a couple of weeks back so all the Angel's Trumpets got busy producing buds. Now it's a matter of holding our breath in hopes that the temperatures will remain above freezing long enough for them to all bloom. Meanwhile, here are a couple in "full flush". I have a couple with limbs pulled so low that the blooms are resting on the ground.

Angel's Trumpet (Brugmansia)-

Amber Rose
She will winter over for me outside (zone 7) if cut to the ground and mulched heavily.

Rosamond Seedling, Looks Just Like Her Mama
The blooms open white, then slowly turn to a deep velvet, mauve rose color
She is loaded with blooms and I took this picture so you could see the color changes. We dig her up to winter over inside.

Day Dreams, Double Pink

She has just opened as a light pink and will darken up in a couple of days.
Beautiful but she has been a challenge for me to get to bloom. After two years she bloomed but they were deformed. I've had two plants for 4 years now and finally she is putting on a wonderful show. In our zone 7 she must be dug up and wintered over inside. (stripped of all but the crown leaves and kept at a temperature just above freezing so she can go dormant.

"Pot Fields", Wednesday - September 30, 2009 11:00 PM

I wonder if the TN or MS Drug Enforcement would allow me to talk to the people they've busted who tend pot fields .... I don't want to grow pot but I sure would like to know how they keep the deer out of the fields and the fertilizer etc. formula they use. lol lol I bet I could grow some bodacious plants in my flower garden, if only I knew. Not that they are anything to sneeze at now. - Judy

Judy is a PuppyGal and always has been -- bringing in strays, thrown away puppies and other creature for the last 55 years, we will have to assume she was five years old before she brought in her first one. When she was four years old she went missing and hours later they found her under her Grandparent's old country farmhouse. She had snuggled up next to their big white dog and fell asleep. She and their eight yard dogs roamed the 100 acre farm, everyone content that the dogs would protect her. While other little girls played with dolls, PuppyGal and the dogs followed behind her Papa as he plowed the fields, feed the goats or milked the cows. Life changed, Papa passed away, she lived full time in the city, got a good education and became an executive for a National Corporation. One day she decided they were robbing her of her life so she told them "I'm Through Now" and returned to the country and her first love, dogs....smashed faced, snorting Bulldogs.
