A person living 1000 miles away called to tell me their dog, which they had gotten
from me as a puppy, had Hip Dysplasia and they were going to have to have her "put down"
although their heart was breaking at the thought, because she was unable to walk. Since
our line of Bullies has never had Hip Dysplasia, I was in shock and begged them not to
"put her down" and asked that they overnight me the x-rays. My vet said the x-rays showed
it had sustained an injury to it's back, consistent with a fall ( i.e., off a deck or porch)
but did not show anything that would prevent the dog from walking.
Meanwhile the people had taken the Bully for a second opinion which
confirmed the first. I told them I was coming to get the dog, 23 hr drive
one-way!!!! Needless to say this situation was very emotional for all of
us.
Before I could make arrangements to leave that night, they called. They
had taken the dog to an orthopedic specialist who diagnosed her as having a
hip infection caused by a dirty needle being used when she got her annual
shots!!! 10 days of antibiotics and she was good as new.
Please let this be a warning, don't give up until you have exhausted all possibilities
