PuppyGal Welcomes You To...
Events & Happenings At Dogwood Pond

If you have the sound turned up on your computer, you can hear "Old Time Rock 'N' Roll". Bob added it to the Events Page as a Surprise Christmas Present. It's the theme song of Dogwood Pond where the Bullies and I do the Bully Butt Wiggle every time we hear it on the radio!! Dancing is good for the soul and helps us do our "range of motion" exercises.

We had our new washing machine and dryer delivered today. I wanted to get one that would last as long as I will, so I got a Maytag Atlantis set, $1200 and boy am I disappointed. For the dog's beds I have the least expensive model of washing machine that Whirlpool makes - not only does it do a much better job of ringing out the water, it is much quieter!!! My 12 year old Whirlpool did a much better job than this new Maytag. If I had known what I know now, I would have repaired it!!! Never again will I buy anything but Whirlpool, I should have known better. Lowe's may get this Maytag back!!! I'm going to go speak with them tomorrow.

Wednesday - 01/01/03 - 10:00 PM - Happy New Year!!!

A Southern tradition, or superstition, is eating hog jowl and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day for Good Luck!!! You better believe I'm eating 'em all day!!

First, I get a long emotional e-mail that I am sure has been written by someone having had one too many "toasts to the New year". Then, I get blessed out by a woman who I declined to sell a Bully Pup, because she has a Chihuahua. Then Bob is going to take the washing machine out of the house to work on it and in the process of trying to get it loose from the water inlet, breaks the water pipe in the wall, has to make a mad dive under the sink to turn off the main water inlet to the house because the living room is being flooded. Then he has to knock out sheetrock to repair the pipe. By this time poor Bob's face is so red, I have to tell him to take a deep breath and just laugh it off.

Be right back, I'm gonna eat more Black-eyed peas. lol lol lol

PepperJack was still impotent when he visited the Vet yesterday morning so we had to borrow a male from our friends Kim & Chuck Holley. Magnum is his name and he is beautiful. We'll upload pictures in a few days so that any of you who are in need of Stud Service can view this wonderful Bully!!!

I must say life gets interesting when we have Available Puppies. We're sleep deprived the first 2-3 weeks, therefore it is the worse time to attempt to deal with some very "over the edge" people and strange behavior from others.

We have a Waiting List and I send Birth Announcements to those people. If they are ready to get a Bully then they are given preference. If we have additional available puppies, we open it up to everyone, but there is always an approval process, via an application.

For every pup we have, I'm sure I declined to sell to at least 4 people. Unfortunately, because I sell my "babies" at a lower price, so I will have a large selection of people to choose from, people get mad when they are declined or if a puppy is purchased before they have made up their mind. These are exactly the ones I do not want getting one of my puppies.

I'm not meaning to be rude, just blunt. By the time we get a pup ready to go to it's new home we have invested lots of loving care, emotions and energy, so I make every effort to make sure they are going to the best possible homes. I have been known to return deposits if I find a person to be irresponsible, rude, making a pest of themselves, or if "the hair stands up on the back of my neck" for any reason.

We live off of our retirement income and raise Bullies because we want to. Any money made thus far has been offset by me taking in stray dogs, cats and occasionally a kid.....I'm putting up a banner across the drive that says you can drop off your dog, but not your kid!!

Take care and have a Wonderful Weekend!

Great Scott it has gotten cold here, lows in the mid teens and 20's. Our strays that have come to stay, will not sleep in dog houses, nor will they stay in a fence so we have a real problem keeping them warm when it really gets cold. Last year I worried myself silly about them. This year I found a solution to the problem. I went to the local thrift store and bought blankets, bedspreads, etc. Then I got a "huge" tri-wall box, 48 inches tall and wide, cut out the front, put a metal heating pad which maintains 70 degrees in it and put the whole thing up on the porch at the back door. They are happy and I don't worry but....they're always underfoot now. Well you can't have everything. I had rather they be underfoot than uncomfortably cold. The 5th member of the group, a beautiful Miniature American Eskimo weighing 12 lbs at the most, gets to come in and out of the house at will. Since she doesn't have enough sense to stay out of Sleepy's face and is too curious about the puppies, we have a crate for her when she elects to come into the house.

One of the washing machines is still broken, we've been too busy with the puppies and keeping warm to tear it down to identify the problem. When you live this far out in the country, you are forced to become a handyman. A service call into our area, plus any repair would equal half the cost of a new machine. So we've learned how to tear them down and keep working at it until we have identified the problem, then we order parts online.

I never thought I'd be a country girl!!!

Wednesday - 12/25/02 - 9:00 AM - MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Last night, Bob and I went to Ruby Tuesdays, the best Corinth, MS has to offer, for dinner. We had to make it quick because we had puppies to feed, but just being out of the house and away from responsibility for 3 hours was wonderful!!! Before you ask, NO I did not got to all the tables asking for their leftovers to be put in my "doggie bag". Actually, there wasn't a "doggie bag", which really disappointed the "outside gang", when they came running to meet the van.

This morning after we took care of the Bullies, Bob cooked French Toast, simple and so delicious for a Christmas Morning breakfast. We're having Cajun Crawfish & Crab Pie for Lunch. This is a simple thaw and bake process, open the bag of prepared salad and we're ready. Leg of Lamb for Dinner which I'll cover with my own brand of spices and bake in the oven along side baking potatoes. It takes Bob 5 minutes at most to complete the process of cooking a load of bread in the Bread Maker. Open, season and heat a can of tiny tender English Peas, pop the cork on the lovely homemade wine sent to us from the Bager Family of NY and we'll have a dinner fit for a King!!

Normally we join a hectic family Christmas celebration with Bob and I doing most or all of the cooking, but this year it's just the two of us and it has been so absolutely wonderful. There aren't any crazy schedules to attempt to accommodate with someone having to have their way or they just won't come, or of attempting to suit everyone's tastes when making out the menu. What a relief to be able to relax and enjoy The Day! I wonder if we can arrange to have a litter of puppies every year?

The very best to you and your families!

Wednesday - 12/25/02 - 7:00 AM - MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Last Saturday when Bob took PepperJack to the Vet's to breed one of our females, the Vet found Pepper to be impotent!!! This was first time and the reason is unknown. It may be due to age, he turned 7 years this month. It just dawned on me this morning that I may need another stud so I have reserved Astro until we at least know more about Pepper's condition.

Daisy ate breakfast this morning so we don't expect her to go into labor today. I would have hated to call Dr Frank to wish him a Merry Christmas and in the same breath, ask if he could spare a few minutes to do a c-section.

Puppies are calling....

Tuesday - 12/24/02 - 3:00 PM

Goodness Gracious!!! 63 days ago we bred Daisy to Elvis for the first time, 30 days ago we were pretty sure she was going to have a pup or two, then 15 days ago we decided she wasn't going to have any. When I looked at her today I thought "My Goodness" I think the old girl is going to have "a puppy". This may be our "surprise" litter. Either that or she is having a False Pregnancy, which we've had several of lately.

Sunday - 12/22/02 - 11:00 AM

We're having a wonderful Christmas. We've gotten "Priceless Presents", those sent from the heart, and several Christmas Cards which included pictures of our "sold" puppies which makes us feel so warm and fuzzy!!!

We would truly appreciate updated pictures of puppies that we have sold. If you can't send them by e-mail, please send them to:

Bob and I have decided not to buy present for each other but instead to give the money to Alicia, a friend in need. She was diagnosed earlier in the year as having MS, asked me to sell her Bullies for her because she was no longer able to take care of them, worked until she could no longer do the job and has applied for Social Security Disability. Most everyone has heard horror stories of how long it takes and how many times a person must apply. Meanwhile, she is on the verge of losing her house which is up 'For Sale', if she doesn't get assistance. We're finalizing a plan to raffle off a Website - with a year of free design, maintenance, hosting and unlimited changes. Hopefully we can raise enough money to help her through this crisis. (Donations can be made via the PayPal Icon on our website, just put for "Alica").

Another Christmas Present was learning that Smart Cookie is "with pups". She is due to deliver starting 1/10/03. She was bred to Mini-Elvis so the resulting puppies should be short, stocky and beautiful. We bought her earlier in the year from a young couple who did not get her AKC papers from the person they bought her from, therefore the puppies will be sold as Unregistered. We haven't discussed price yet -- it depends upon how they look.

Sleepy & Pepper Jack's Puppies are doing GREAT!! This is her first litter and she is a wonderful mother!! Bob and I are very tired from the 24x7 attention to Mother & Pups, but we are handling it well.

We are happy, very much in love and have learned to roll with the punches, what more could we want!!!

Judy, Bob & "Our Gang"

PS. More Christmas Presents:

Sassy T, my most beloved old heifer of a Bully, is "with puppies". She was bred to Elvis in hopes of having a female puppy just like her!!! Look at the picture of her last litter of one a male, Ozzy. Her first possible due date is 1/1/03. We couldn't really tell if there were puppies or not until today which means she will probably only have one. We surely hope it isn't a False Pregnancy.

Kate, daughter of Charlotte & Wolfy, appears to be "with pups". She was bred to Mr. Big Stuff. We are very excited because this will be the first litter he has sired. Her first due date is 1/10/03.
