Puppy Gal's Opinion On

Controversy Over Feeding Bones To English Bulldogs

We give our English Bulldogs bones but not just any bone....

For 30 years I have given my dogs and puppies bones for their entertainment, plus teeth and muscle development. I do NOT however give them bones that are small enough to eat, only big bones such as beef thigh (femur) which have had the ends or knuckles removed by the butcher. I bake all bones in the oven for about 3 hours at 300 degrees to cook the morrow and whatever matter is attached.

The vet who wrote the below article advocates giving bones also but is against cooking them, in this area we disagree.

Small Bones

Do NOT give small bones, which can be eaten such as chicken, pork, and beef rib bones. Bullies can easily break off and swallow pieces of bones that are too large to pass thus causing an impacted digestive system, which is extremely dangerous and even life threatening. Theses bones can also splinter in your Bully's mouth, throat, or stomach, causing cuts/bleeding in the mouth, throat or stomach. Piercing any part of the digestive system could result in internal bleeding which can cause death.

Information presented here is strictly my opinion based upon research and/or 50 years experience at rescuing animals of all sorts. Consult your vet and perhaps even get a second opinion from another vet about all you read on my website.
