Judy,
We saw your calls for updates and new pictures, so I set aside some time this morning to
drop you a note.
Our little Eula (Sweet Caroline) is coming up on her eighth month-birthday (on the 17th)
and is a very happy and healthy girl. Maggie got a job at a campus of Penn State, so we
relocated from Cape Girardeau, MO to western Pennsylvania, near the Ohio border. We were
able to buy a little house, and Eula has really taken to life with a yard! She loves to
fetch her frisbee (shortish tosses, thank you!), and we've been working with a trainer to
make her the best bulldog she can be before the next addition to our family: a baby boy
due in December. :)
We've been keeping up with you and Bob on the website, and we hope your break gives you
the rest and peace you've been needing. All the best,Pete and Maggie and Eula.

Subject: Catching Up
We wanted to drop you a note to say "hello!" and catch you up on some of the news about
our puppy Eula (aka Sweet Caroline).
She's been a real delight--such a sweet and smart puppy! We put her through the wringer
early on, because we got called away on two road trips to Pennsylvania in the first month
that we had her...but with frequent stops she came through it ok. She has learned to love
the car, as long as she has a nice crate to sleep in.
She's largely house trained (with the crate), though not above a puppy excitement accident
now and again. What amazes us is how well she's taken to some rudimentary obedience
training. She knows her name, comes, sits, gives her paw, lies down (well, ok, only when
she's already sitting), and even rolls over (only when she's already lying down). She
sees no reason to walk at heel, though, and seems to prefer chasing our shoes and biting
our heels, almost like a working dog trying to herd us. We've explained to her the
distinction between the working and non-working group, but she persists. ;)
We've been working on her socialization lately. She loves the park--one of the local
parks have geese in a lake, and she's mildly curious about them, but more she enjoys
people and especially children. She strains at the lead to meet new friends whenever it's
possible, and she is a big hit with most everyone she meets. She's had truckers honk at
her, college kids take her picture with their cell phones, and one little girl even taught
her a new trick (gimme paw) with a particularly fun stick. She's met a few new dogs, but
she really needs the puppy kindergarten classes to get fully comfortable around other
dogs.
Healthwise, she's A-OK. We had a small scare where she was wheezing uncontrollably
despite mild temps and a cool bath. Turns out her harness was a little tight around her
chest, and wheezing was her way of saying her airway was constricted. Bad parents--we
didn't notice just how big she got how quickly! She's gone from around 8 pounds to 15.2
in the a little over four weeks! Her vet complimented us on her coat and asked what we
were feeding her. Your mix seems to be doing just the trick, though to be honest we're
fattening her up with training treats, too. :) She loves to romp around in the grass
outside our apartment, so we're not neglecting the exercise with walks and even short jogs
(very short, mind you, like from the door to the curb).
Anyway, I'm just gushing away like a proud parent...all of this is pretty standard stuff
for puppies, but we did want to say "thanks" again, and let you know Eula is happy and
safe in her new pack.- Best,P
